INTERESTS
Spoiler:
Nayr loves to paint, and is his one and greatest hobby. He does it often, whether the pictures are landscapes, portraits, or of the abstract variety. He's also interested in the martial arts, particularly in that of the glaive and longbow. He finds a certain beauty in the curvature of the bow and blade of the glaive, and delights in the feeling of power he gets when he swings the polearm or when he buries an arrow deep into a target. Of course, he's equally interested in the clerical arts, choosing to use the more flashy of spells as he says they are more appealing to the eyes. He also recieves joy from giving other gifts, reveling in the happy look on other's faces as they get their present. Often his own simpler paintings, to certain people he will give something more, such as an exquisite portrait of themselves or a masterfully painted picture of some far off place. He never gives out rings to others anymore, after the incident with Loghan. Nayr is afraid to die and will stubbornly resist it at any cost, as in his mind he is one of the few keeping Loghan's memory alive.
PERSONALITY
Spoiler:
Nayr is the introverted artistic type. He looks inside the heart for the answers, creating outer expressions of that self and deciding on who he is by what comes out. He is currently trying to discover himself and not to make money or find fame. Nayr can be painfully shy at times. However, he has successfully found within himself a universal thing, something that comes out through the artwork, that is, his expression of self. This universality draws people to him. He reacts with warmth and humor, enjoying the feeling of being unique. Creative, passionate, empathetic.
APPEARANCE
Spoiler:
Nayr has the well muscled frame of youth, possessing a tall and lean but defined body. His hair is a golden hue of blonde, and the cleric sports a short beard on his chin. Nayr's eyes are dark green, and his skin a normal looking shade of tan. Most would say Nayr is good looking, but he likes to modestly shrug it off with a playful jest. His vestments often incorperate light blue cloth mixed in with his metal armor, with a baby blue sash across his waist. On the end of the sash is a stitched symbol of Shelyn, a bird with a long, multi-colored tail.
BACKGROUND
Spoiler:
Nayr Goldwyn was born in the city of Korvosa, though he never did know who his parents were. The farthest back he can remember is the fact that he grew up on the streets of the strict city, which allowed him to learn how to fend for himself from a young age. Living by himself in solitude for a couple of years, one day when he was in his early teens, he met another child his age who wasn't afraid of his tattered appearance.
It turned out that the other boy, Loghan was his name, was the son of a priest who served Shelyn. The two talked for awhile and quickly became fast friends, promising to meet each other again each day. This went on for several months until the Loghan's father caught wind of what his son was up to. Unexpectedly, the priest allowed Nayr to stay in his home in a bout of kindness and upon the realization that his son had made a strong new friendship.
Nayr grew up as part of Loghan's household but never quite part of the family. He began to learn the ways of the Eternal Rose, hoping to perhaps become a bit more like a family. Though that never did work out as well as he would have liked, he did find a new companionship in the form of the goddess, and Nayr discovered many of his interests and talents coincided with the tenets of the Shelyn's faith.
As the years went on and he grew into a fine, comely man, Nayr and Loghan became closer than ever. His long-time friend meshed so closely with the cleric, and before long he soon began to feel drawn to the priest's son. Eventually he went so far to buy a gift for Loghan, a small silver ring which was in the shape of Shelyn's symbol, a small bird with a long tail that wrapped around the finger. The other cleric accepted the present with a smile, and thanked Nayr very graciously.
Later that night, when Nayr's spirits were soaring high, he was called by the Korvosan Guard to identify a body that was found murderered in an ally. To Nayr's horror, when he arrived it was Loghan who was laying on the cobblestone street, several open knife wounds carved in his back. Adding to his distress, the expensive gift he had bought Loghan was missing, which meant whoever had killed his dearest friend stole the ring.
After a few weeks of grieving, Nayr began to investigate on his own and found the ring for sale at a local merchant. To his great frustration, he couldn’t afford to buy it back, but the merchant did tell the cleric from whom he purchased the ring, a man named Gaedren Lamm. It seemed likely the criminal was the one who killed Loghan, and Nayr went back to the church, immersing himself in his duties. He vowed that he would honor his friend's memories and one day exact revenge upon the man who had taken Loghan's life: Gaedren Lamm.
