Outstanding book

5/5

I am a huge fan of the Revisited series of books Paizo has been releasing and have plans to release. This book took my attention from the moment I picked it up and flipped through the pages.

It is an outstanding read. It covers how these iconic "D&D" items are created, how they fit into the Pathfinder world and how adventures use it. I also like the how it shows that these items are not one dimensional (no pun intended) and are constantly being adapted in the modern game.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to both GM and player as there is so much you can get out of it. 5 out of 5.

A quick resource to get NPC

3/5

In reading the "sell" on Paizo website you get the feeling that this book is the saviour to the bane of GMs. Indeed when you look through the blog materials you get a sense this could be correct. Only one obvious missed points that the book is targetted to low-mid level scenarios.

The introduction in the book itself sells this book better than the advert does. A lot of time and thought has gone in to creating NPCs with charcter. A GM could use the proposed NPCs as a bases and adapt to suit only needs but again it adds time - something this book claims to save for GMs.

I enjoyed the stories and particularly the Paizo characters in at the back. It provides what it says it would but perhaps not to expectations of GMs. It is a solid book and worthy of 3 stars.

A very well balanced book

4/5

After reading previous reviews, I must admit I was not holding this book with high expectation. I was pleased to see that my misgivings were a mistake.

This book is not a "power-players" appendix to add more powerful array of equipment to maximise damage. Rather this book rounds out existing items, enhances mundane items (I LOVE the masterwork backpack - sue me I am an encumberance nazi) and updates some OGL items.

It also includes new items, uses of items, tricks, traits and feats. As the title suggests it is all about supporting adventurer's no matter what the class. I give this item 4.5 out 5 and suggest it to players and GMs who like details around their equipment.

Ships.. who needs more ships after this?

4/5

I am a big fan of Paizo maps both cards and flip mats. These ships will come in handy for sessions on and by the sea.

Only down side is the card stock used. I feel that the quality has lessen over time. After just opening the plastic off this bunch of maps, the card started to wrap, just like cheap polaroid photographs. Make sure you store this in plastic and in a flat position. This should extend the life of the product.

Hard and fast Fantasy and Science Fiction Adventure

5/5

Having some spare time on my hands, I decided to have a read of this book. The cover impressed me and as I read the cover directly fitted a scene from the book. Not sort of fitted exactly as it was written.

This is the style of writing that his book contains. There were no dull parts where pages were spent on developing the stage and colour but straight into the action.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was no stop and I highly recommend it as a great short read.

Perfect map

5/5

This is a great map. It steps up from the basic map and provides a colourful marketplace scene as well as on the reverse a cobbled blank map. The blank map is the strenght is it is perfect for tiled dungeons for to create scenes in a city.

High recommended for a GM who want to add some atomsphere and colour.

Fanastic Bestiary

5/5

In my experience, I have found D&D OGL Bestiaries fairly well done. This book continues that tradition and then builds on it. It takes the basic stat blocks and then give a million and one options to customise/develop monsters.

The layout is perfect. Front the monsters with templates followed by monster creation/advancement and then useful, summative and well organised appendices... ones that I know I can be used.

This book is not targetted at beginning GMs who use stats to rush monsters at players for hack and slash. This book is written by experts for expert DMs or to develop GMs to run monsters in creative and challenging ways. A must for the PFRPG GM.

Great looking book

4/5

This book is a very interesting read. A lot of detail into the background of PFS. It is also a beautifully presented book. There is material in here that I will plug into the Magnimar leg of the RotRL campaign I am running.

I have marked it down to a 4 star product. Basically is it really worth the $20 that is being asked for it? I think $15 is closer the mark. I get excited when I start reading but as I near the end of the book I feel empty... as their is not a lot of mechanics for new feats/spells as this item's summary leads you to believe.

I would recommend this book to roleplayers who like details and background information for character development and to GM who want some details for PFS in their campaigns. This book is not for character optimisation.

Deserting adventuring at its finest

5/5

I played this adventure at tier 3-4 with my 4th level ranger. It perfectly suited my dunewalker character as well as my spell selection. :)

I actually picked this adventure as a filler to end my GenconOz 2009 experience but I was really surprised. There is a real threat that the party will be trapped in the mirage. The hot sun and heat does strange things to travellers and it is hard to believe that you can finish this adventure with a tribe of lost gnolls as your prize.

The travelling is very confusing but is designed to be as it is part of the challenge. This is not a good adventures for inexperienced players and demands respect... it has a dragon in it. :)

An explosive adventure

2/5

This adventure was a surprise packet. I played tier 3-4 and in a party of six we were overpowered in some acts. You do get to fight huge creatures under the correct circumstances.

I rated this low as it did go on a bit and has one too many acts for my liking. The ending is weak and there is the distinct possibility of TPK in this adventure as it traps thinking PCs. I was expecting more out this scenario.

OH MY GOD

5/5

AWESOME! I played this adventure Genconoz 2009 with a party of 4 tier 1-2. The party consisted of a 2 rangers, a fighter and a sorcerer. Some how we managed to survive!

This is a thinking adventure. If you want to be challenged than this is the adventure for you. I would not recommend this adventure for players new or inexperience to PFRPG/D&D.

This adventure has a bit for every character

4/5

I did enjoy this scenario. There is a bit of everything for all types of characters. Of goodness sake though, do not play this adventure with 4 players of the Andoran fraction as it does start to get a little over bearing. :)

A direct delve

5/5

This adventure is a very straight forward, well paced delve and heavily combat orientated - what I think a crawl should be. In saying that, there is a need for a very well balanced party to succeed. I played 1-2 and was personally awed by the last act.

This is a great adventure for beginning characters or to introduce players to PFS/PFRPG. Particularly good for getting power players to realise that there is more than optimising characters and that they know all that there is to know in the game.

PS. I recently ran this scenario for my local players and they loved it! Highly recommend, particularly for hack and slashers.

Delving pathfinders

3/5

I was looking forward to this adventure based off the product description. I was a little disappointed over all as the delve went a little too long with excess rooms and repeative clearing of monsters. The saving grace was the storyline and twists I experienced as a player at the end of the adventure.

I do not recommend this adventure beginning players or folks with characters who RP respecting the dead.

Come and visit the museum

4/5

This was an interesting adventure that was set solely in the one building. I completed it tier 1-2 and felt that it was evenly balanced and not just combat orientated. In fact, non-combat characters made this scenario a breeze and without them it would be most difficult to complete.

A detailed "men from the north" adventure

3/5

There is no doubt that this adventure was masterly crafted and was open enough to allow players to be creative to achieve outcomes act to act. In saying that, I was a little disppointed with the feel of this scenario. It is solid but did not jump out at me like a few of the other did. This adventure lacked atmosphere.

If you love vikings and the sea this is a most do adventure for you. I would give this scenario 2.5 out of 5.

A good desert adventure

4/5

This was my first scenario as a player. I had created a first level Osirion ranger sandwalker so it fitted in very well. I played tier one and thought that the adventure was very challenging. It was also very difficult to finish some of the fraction secret missions without the right class being present.

I would not recommend this adventure to beginning players to PFS. I hope that this adventure gets an update to PFRPG and finds itself in later sessions.

Okay Shirt... if not for Pathfinder link may have passed

3/5

I was very excited when I saw my shirt arrive. It was compressed into a think triangle package with the clear Orison markings. To my surprise the short was not folded then sealed rather it was forced compressed. The shirt has heaps and heaps of creases, almost permanent press, even in the logo.

The shirts are also small. I ordered a 4XL to wear over a long sleeve pullover but it was smaller than the 3XL undefeated shirt I bought. I have washed it once and the creases remain. I am tempted to iron to remove creases.

Paizo got it wrong with the packing of this item.

Great Shirt

5/5

The photo does not do this shirt justice. It is an excellent black shirt. I got the 3XL as I thought the 2XL would be too small. The 3XL is huge. A large make of shirt.

I have not washed the shirt yet and will update after doing so.

Solid but lacking appeal

3/5

This is yet another solid resource in the Chronicle range. This book is well bound and set out with quite a bit of text. It has all the details needed to run Katapesh as a campaign or adventure setting.

For what ever reason, this book did not appeal to me like previous guide books. It seemed to be very clinical and had a lot of information as opposed to image grabbing materials. I would recommend this book to GMs running adventures in and around Katapesh.

A good map

4/5

This map is a fairly good size, especially for the price. It does wjat a battle map is supposed to. Both permanent and non permanent markers work fine.

I do not like the packaging. Folding this map is a nice idea and makes it easy to transport but leaves the creases. If you decide to try and roll the map up you can not as the creases are permanent.

Awesome Monster Book

5/5

This book was a pure pleasure to read. Not only is it at the usual high standard for art and book bounding but the writings and options offered within for the listed dungeon denizens blew my mind. The mutations of the generic monster should be come a regular feature for all future monster ecology books. I have purchased a few monster ecology books and this one has left me feeling the most excited.

I would highly recommend this book for DMs wanting to add some spice to their encounters. Sidetrek material is supplied for all the monsters. Only downside in my eye is a lack of a DC check table that could be used by DMs to used to relay what characters would know.

Nice cards to add tp the Gamemastery collection

4/5

This are good quality cards with very accurate pictures. I give it 4 out of 5.

The only issue is that there is not enough copies of the RotRL introduced items such as Khar, Barbarian chew and Earthbreaker. I would have preferred more RotRL items then mostly generic items that were supplied. Don't get me wrong, the unique items are there but not enough of the common items.

An excellent book for a Darkmoon Dale campaign

5/5

This books us a subperb example of what support material for a DM in a location should be. I rate this item 5 out of 5.

Unlike other reviews, the maps are more than adequate, can give an overall idea of location. I can say this as I would not rely on them to use in game. Though I would suggest that there is plenty of opportunity to create an map folio to support this Darkmoon Vale as there are plenty of Pathfinder (Gamemastery) modules for adventures.

The book is also pack with dones of history and backgrounds and options for npcs and pcs alike. This books is for DMs and I would not advise a PC to purchase.

A useful tool for gaming

4/5

This item is most certainly a useful tool for gaming and of solid craftmanship. It is a 3" long and 1" solid arcylic resin cylinder with markings. I would give it 3.5 stars so I will round it up to 4.

Firstly, the items does not come as it appears in the picture. It only comes with 2 black bands unlike the 2 black and 2 red bands as suggested. The package it comes which it comes in suggests to buy a second set of bands for more precise measurements. Sadly at this time, paizo does not offer this.

Finally, their is only one indicator per pack, I bought this with special codes that made the price more appealing. This product is over priced and as suggest before missing parts.

With this identified issues it is still very useful and I would recommend it to DM or players with characters who fly or climb. Though it does not come with a base, it is fairly stable. The base would add stability but it would also interfer with surrounding miniatures. There are two extender sets that you can add to this product and I would refer you their product page to read my review.
