Curse of the Crimson Throne Roll20
Kendrick: It’s barely dawn when the shouting rouses you from sleep. The voice is all too familiar, and one you’ve come to hate first thing in the morning. The choice to stay at the barracks during cadet training seemed like a good idea at the time, considering the emotional attachments to your family’s home and the loss of Mara, although the last few mornings have you reconsidering that decision. The second guessing only lasts a moment as the shouting grows louder, the drill instructor walking up and down the rows of bunks, and the sounds of groans, armor clanking and weapons rattling before you're up and getting dressed. Another morning of practice and conditioning forces you to focus your mind on the tasks ahead. While the sun may be up, it does nothing to remove the chill in the morning air. A few laps around the barracks and sparring for hours is broken up only by a brief meal. It’s not long after when a familiar face is heading your way, Dalvun Krand, one of the young stable boys. It’s easy to see that something has him on edge, his eyes darting back and forth as he walks. ”Sorry to bother you this morning sir, but uh...well...I was, it’s just that...well, you see, I was making to feed Charge like I do most mornings, when I uh...noticed something underneath his saddle. Since it was on the shelf, I uh, well I took a look, not really thinking nothing about it. I mean he wasn’t saddled, I wouldn’t go nowhere near him if he was, but uh...well, I found this laying on the shelf. I don’t know what it means...or even if it’s yours, but since it was under your saddle, I thought I should see if it’s yours.” He glances around a few times before handing you a tarrow card, the Keep. Written on the card is a message. I know what Gaedren has done to you. He has wronged me as well. I know where he dwells, yet cannot strike at him. Come to my home at 3 Lancet Street at sunset. Others like you will be there. Gaedren must face his fate, and justice must be done.

For several weeks, excitement has been building in Kenabres-Armasse is coming! Traditionally an opportunity for scholars and priests to come together to study the lessons of history from wars past, since Aroden's death, this holy day has become more about training commoners in weaponry, choosing squires, and ordaining new priests. Over time, Armasse has grown to encompass jousting competitions, mock duels, battle reenactments, and other festival events. In Kenabres, the festival (which takes place on 16 Arodus) is eagerly anticipated, for it provides distractions from the horrors of being on the front line of the war. Smiles on faces normally marred by downcast eyes and furrowed brows do wonders for city morale in the weeks leading up to the event. Armasse is a citywide celebration, but the majority of the event, including its jousting matches and other entertainments, takes place at Clydwell Plaza, just west of the cathedral. With still an hour to go before the ceremonies officially begin, the streets are crowded with every manner of vendor and merchant out hocking their wares as the residents of Kenabres push through the crowds, from peasants to soldiers and even the wealthy elite.

For now just post in character concepts, or anything you'd like really.
Curse of the Crimson Throne Roll20
The Swallowtail Festival begins promptly, as scheduled, on the first day of autumn. The square before the church quickly becomes crowded as locals and travelers arrive, and several merchant tents featuring food, clothes, local crafts, and souvenirs are there to meet them. The turnout for the opening speeches is quite respectable, and the four keynote speakers each deliver short but well-received welcomes to the festival. Mayor Deverin’s friendly attitude and excitement prove contagious as she welcomes visitors to town and jokes about how even Larz Rovanky, the local tanner (and notorious workaholic) managed to tear himself away from the tannery to attend, much to everyone’s but
At noon, Father Zantus and his acolytes wheel a large covered wagon into the square, and after recounting the short parable of how Desna first fell to earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child who she transformed into an immortal butterfly as a reward for her aid, they pull aside the wagon’s cover, releasing the thousand children of Desna—a furious storm of a thousand swallowtail butterflies that swarm into the air in a spiraling riot of color to a great cheer from the crowd. Throughout the rest of the day, children futilely chase butterflies, never quite quick enough to catch them. Lunch is provided free, at the expense of Sandpoint’s taverns. Each brings its best dishes—this event is a marketing push by the taverns as much to win new customers as it is to feed a hungry crowd. It soon becomes apparent that the darling of the lunch is, once again, Ameiko Kaijitsu, whose remarkable curry-spiced salmon and early winterdrop mead easily overshadow the other offerings, such as the Hagfish’s lobster chowder or the White Deer’s peppercorn venison. Through out the event many of the townsfolk engage in various games and idle chatting in between eating as much as possible. Beyond music and dancing, there are sack races, hide and seek, weight lifting, tug-of-war, knife throwing, and of course, the Hagfish challenge.

I have selected quite an unorthodox group of individuals to form an adventuring party with, and because of this you will be challenged in certain areas more so than a typical adventuring party. I will not scale back and I will not pull punches. In order to survive, you must learn to work together. With the abilities you have at your disposal and after reading your backgrounds, I am confident you will be successful. And if not, well it should make for an interesting story none the less. A few things for you to be aware of.
2. Please communicate with me and each other. If you know you will not be able to post for more than 3 days, please let us know. I am less flexible on this. 3. Replacements will be selected from those who applied initially but where not chosen. If none are available, recruitment will reopen. 4. Initiative will generally be handled in an "us vs. them" mentality. Winning initiative typically means you go first, but after the 1st round it usually has much less impact. 5. Killing a group member means you are killing a crew member and usually gets you killed as well assuming it is not related to an attempted mutiny. Attempted mutinies almost always get you killed.
I am recruiting EVIL(ish) characters for the Skulls and Shackles adventure path. This will be my first effort at DMing a PBP game on these forums. I have played through the adventure path myself to it's end and enjoyed it. I have run numerous games in-person and I have been playing games for 20+ years. Character Generation:
Level: 1st Wealth: Max starting money, no crafting before the adventure begins. Attributes: 25-point build Hit Points: Max at 1st level; see below for each level after first: 1d6 = 1d3+3 1d8 = 1d4+4 1d10 = 1d5+5 1d12 = 1d6+6 Traits: 2 + 1 campaign specific (only Campaign traits from Skulls and Shackles) Drawback: 1 to receive an additional trait. Classes: Any paizo, Unchained allowed, Variant Multiclassing allowed. No 3rd party, No psionics, No Path of War, No exceptions. Races: Core, Featured, and Uncommon are allowed. Skills: Background skills from unchained will be used. Schedule: 1 post a day at minimum, more posts are encouraged. Mapping: roll20.net will be used for combat encounters where appropriate Craft: crafting will be allowed AFTER the adventure begins. There will be downtime. Alignment: Any, although Lawful Good characters will have an extremely tough time. You don’t have to be evil, but these characters will not be heroes in the traditional sense. You will be pirates. To get selected, you will need to submit the character details as well as background. Please also include a description of your character's appearance. You don't need to use aliases before selected, but feel free to use them if you have them. I'm looking for 5 characters. Originality gets you bonus points. For example, If you're going to submit a hexcrafter magus who likes shocking grasp, you better have something that really makes you stand out. I like well crafted, interesting characters. Background stories are nice and flush out characters, but will rarely get looked at once recruitment is over. Your character details will come up several times a week. I will close recruitment sometime on Saturday morning, June 13th, at the VERY LATEST. The game will start Monday the 15th. Please do not fill up this recruitment thread with unrelated chatter, that will definitely count against you. |
