About Malos

Malos didn't have a happy childhood. His father was murdered by noble youths playing at being bandits for fun. The same nobles also stuck a knife in his belly, but Malos managed to break free with the knife still lodged in his stomach, and ran into the woods to escape. The nobles left him for dead, but Malos heard the name of the one that killed his father: Rorek.

Malos was rescued by a Man of Nature. He nursed Malos back to health, tended to his wounds, and after learning that Malos' mother died in childbirth, he took him to an orphanage in Korvosa. Growing up in Korvosa taught Malos many things. How to pick a pocket, how to pick a lock, how to remain unseen, and how to use knives to their full potential.

Ever since his father was murdered by Rorek, and he himself was stabbed, Malos has had an odd relationship with knives. He's both terrified, and fascinated by them. He prefers using knives to defend himself above all others, and he has learned to use them very well.

Malos keeps a deeply ingrained hatred for those that abuse power. He refuses to steal from those that can't afford it, or from those for whom the theft would deeply impact. He joined more than a few gangs as a youth, and was tossed out, or abandoned, all of them because of his principles. This has led to him leading a fairly independent life, and caused him to not trust easily.

When amongst others, Malos has a tendency to keep an eye on them at all time, at least until he's been in their company for sometime and learns their measure. He doesn't rely on people to watch his back at first, unless he's fought on their side before, because not everyone is able to defend themselves.

When Malos reached adulthood, he left Korvosa so he could put his past behind him. He moved to Sandpoint, hoping the smaller town would allow him to be the man he's always wanted to be.

He often encountered heroes in taverns and on the streets, sharing stories of their brave exploits and noble sacrifices. Malos would often eavesdrop on these stories, and envision himself in such a role, but he's always been too selfish to sacrifice himself for the greater good. That's not to say he stands by as true evil passes, Malos often helps those in need, or protects those that are defenseless; he's just never been able to go above and beyond, like the heroes he admires.

After moving to Sandpoint, Malos took on jobs at local inns and taverns, cleaning the inns, cooking food, and tossing out those that got too rowdy on occasion. But his main source of income comes from working as a caravan guard, hunting down bounties, or working for the guardsmen doing assisting in jobs like driving off problematic goblins, or as an informant on local crimes.

When not working, and when he feels like being alone, Malos can often be found at Junkers Edge, starring across the Varisian Gulf, or watching the Goblins rummage through trash. He hasn't made many friends since moving to Sandpoint, but he's known to the people as one that can be counted on.
