Perhaps it had something to do with bringing him back from the brink in the Chieftain's lair, she considers, or trying to heal his wounds when they got back to the inn. If that's the case, the witch wants to tell him that it isn't necessary to wait on her, that he earned her assistance by helping the group parley a truce between Belhaim and the Blood Vows. But she also doesn't want to offend him if it was a matter of honor. Or risk starting some sort of sentimental discussion. And so Maellyra keeps quiet, only breaking the companionable silence to let Spitter know what she was planning to do.

Perhaps it had something to do with bringing him back from the brink in the Chieftain's lair, she considers, or trying to heal his wounds when they got back to the inn.
The next morning, Maellyra wakes with half-remembered dreams of dark whispers promising taboo knowledge flitting through her mind. Sitting upright, the witch directs her glare over toward the far corner of the room where a crudely sewn doll sits hunched over in the chair. It knew she didn't like it when it meddled with her sleep. Spirits must be eager today... With a resigned sigh, Maellyra opens herself up to the spirits residing in her spell poppet. The whispers become clearer. They share their lore with her, teaching her new spells that anyone with a clear sense of right and wrong might find revolting, but which Maellyra finds to be potentially useful. They also hunger for the knowledge contained within the scroll Maellyra had taken from Churgri, but she isn't quite ready to share that with them. Finally, Maellyra entreats the spirits to give her the power to heal wounds and empower herself and others.

Once the communion is over and the spirits retreat back into the poppet, an entire hour has passed. Stretching the stiffness from her limbs, Maellyra gets out of bed and checks on her wounds. After peeling back the first bandage and scraping the dried residue of the burn paste away, the witch is pleasantly surprised to healthy, if slightly pinker skin where there was only raw and blistered patches the night before. Pink-skin indeed, Maellyra wryly thinks, preparing herself for the comments Spitter might make as she cleans away the rest of the evidence of her wound care. After freshening up with the basin of water in her room and spending several minutes mending her tattered and charred dress, the now presentable Maellyra heads down to the common room to breakfast and await her companions.
Maellyra nods her thanks to Shayn for his support before seeing the group to the door.
"These scrolls will conjure clouds of dust to blind your foes. They're also useful for finding invisible enemies.
Whether or not anyone takes the bait, Maellyra looks over to the fallen priestess and points out, "She has a few healing elixirs on her, and her cloak is likewise enchanted, but with what sort of spells I can't say beyond them being some form of protective magic." But aside from the scroll whose magic resonated with the darkness inside of the witch, Maellyra makes no move to strip Churgri of her things until she knew where the priestess stood with the incumbent chieftain. "What are you going to do with her?" she asks Nighttail.

But Pavo's concern does make her briefly look down, taking a moment to reevaluate her physical state. After all, the pallid witch was used to not looking good just based upon others' reaction to her; for Pavo to come right out and say she looked in poor shape, she must look a sight indeed. Glancing down at herself confirms it, all tattered robes and patches of pink, blistered skin peeking out from spots where the chieftain's fire spell burned through—not to mention the stab wound to her side. Still, her lips twitch in what might be considered a smirk as she answers in a raspy voice. "I've had worse."

Tucking the scroll into the folds of her robe, Maellyra rises to look over Pavo. "But I see you've suffered no ill effects from my magic. No weakness, no unconsciousness.
[Spoiler omitted]

As talk turns to money, Maellyra finds herself quietly siding with their avaricious kobold friend. While she doesn't want to leave the tribe with nothing, she also isn't the altruistic sort. And now that her friend Xemne's potions have proven unreliable at best, the witch would need money to purchase the materials for brewing her own concoctions. Maybe there was a way neither side would be left empty-handed. "If the gold represents the future of the tribe, what do those dragon scales represent?
