Awesome, thanks.

Anyone know why only the Runelords audio drama has made it to Audible?

Any idea when this will hit audible?

The lack of out-of-combat abilities/skill points makes having any real non-combat hobbies almost impossible.

The cop-out answer is always "roleplay" but that doesn't take into consideration that your character sheet is there to tell you what your strengths and weaknesses are, and when all of your strengths rely on killing something, it leaves a pretty big hole in the potential for believable roleplay.

Maybe I really enjoy cooking?
Well, I would if I could afford to put any points into Craft or Profession, but being Int-low and having only 2 skill points per level means I'm tapped out once the "adventure-necessary" skills are taken.

Any tips/tricks/hints/experience to give?

If it's not in there I'm assuming they either couldn't make it work or couldn't make it fit. Of course the levels of said modularity and how people perceive it will be argued endlessly after this. Either way I envy the type of life wherein this is apocalyptic news.

It's powerful enough to have pulled my group from Pathfinder, which we've spent the past three years obsessing over.

The issue in question is an outgrowth of male pack mentality, and self expectation ("this is what I do to be a man, its what I should do"). Not that ALL men see themselves that way. First, this is not a hetero-male thing. I've been harassed and even chased by gay men, in Miami, back when I was in my late teens. Lesson learned: men in packs are capable of inordinate amounts of stupidity we would not normally be, solo. And it does not matter which way they lean, or if they lean.

Second, this is not going to be solved here, in an RPG forum, in a relatively "enlightened" community. It's just not. You want to fix this issue? Teach your kids to respect other PEOPLE, toughen them up to withstand peer pressure, and engender the idea that standing up for others is the right thing to do.

Racism is taught at home, not being an a****le can be too. Pick the latter.

I'm not gay, bi, or anything other than plain vanilla straight. I don’t normally care about the topic, because I don’t care about marriage as a thing. If I were divorced I would never marry again as my wife is the only person in the universe I would marry. However..

Performing a Full Honors funeral for a dead hero (no, I don’t care about your venomous anti-military opinion, so don’t bother) and seeing that his partner didn’t receive the flag or his benefits in lieu of his estranged, adulterous, morally vacuous ex-wife made me care. Either give it to everyone or make it a church only thing, represented by a legal union available to everyone of consenting age.

So if the guy had moved one seat down as requested would it trigger an AOO? Maybe I'm reading this wrong..

The new Theater villainy I've encountered is people who think they can "vape" in the theater because its not real smoke. Three idiots in the row in front of me were doing just that during Guardians of the Galaxy. Before I could say something a manager came in to warn them, but one guy in front proceeded to swear at me and flex his big old (short and wide) hillbilly muskles (tap out shirt) because he thought I had NARC'd him out. He wasn't high on believing....

I loved Pathfinder as is. Then I started reading these forums. I've liked it less and less ever since. Less to do with the system, more to do with some of the types of people attracted to this type of system.

Grand Lodge

Hated the playtest, was meh about 4th, and I sure as hell did not want a revision of 1st/2nd (played both as a kid, still have the scars). That being said, I love the new PHB and the system itself. I have a metric ton of Paizo material at home and the pdfs to match, but I'm burnt out and fed up with Pathfinder for a multitude of reasons. It'll be a nice, welcome change of pace for a while and I'm looking forward to what else comes down the pipeline.

Grand Lodge

Great story, love the art as usual, but still not feeling the class.

While I only play male characters, I almost never base them on any personal visual aspect. If I did they'd all look like Mul's from Dark Sun, which would be hard to explain. Two of my favorite characters that I've played who are far left field of myself are a mongolian-ish Ranger/Rogue and Paladin Adrian Brody.

Grand Lodge

I'd enjoy it more if it was a look at what happened in the setting ten or more years later. I'm 150% done with prequels and "history of" sequels.

Your alternate system is also fair though. It's the inequity arising from random generation that Hama was suggesting was unfair. (ie when using your method or the regular point buy method there's no risk of being forced to have nothing above a twelve when another PC has nothing below it).

In that case, good point. I must have read it wrong.

Grand Lodge

You're right, it doesn't, neither does his opinion validate itself.

Or you can do a point spread ala (15, 14, 12, 12, 11, 9) etc. We use a 20 point 1-for-1 buy, starting with a base score of 10. Slightly beefy in stats but it alows us to make the type of character we want.

Assuming you're taling non-pfs games, which would mean you can do whatever you want. I've never understood why so many people think point-but is mandatory for Pathfinder.

Grand Lodge

I like the spell casting; slots, valuable cantrips, recovering spell slots, all of it. I hate vancian casting and the garbage that is the one fight workday because the "godlike" power of casters lasts less than a round of boxing. I may actually play a wizard for the first time. For me this is a band-aid for vancian casting, but its a good one with soothing antibiotics.

I also like the lack of stat bloat, as I see it. The characters seem more like adventurers and less like the Avengers, which (mythic or not) my current Wrath party feels like. Time will tell if this is a false assumption on my part.

So far I'm feeling good about it, but the PHB will be the final verdict for me. I'll definitely play it, but my groups gotten a lot of mileage out of Pathfinder and will mostly likely do so in the future. I hope this version does well. There's plenty of room for more than one successful "mainstream" rpg system these days, and competition spurs awesome creative growth that we (the consumer) will benefit from.

I was never sure whether or not he remembered it, but it was definitely a seperate personality ("the bloody nine") coming to the fore. Love that character. He went from Jayne the merc to the Kurgan on steroids in ten seconds flat.

He frequently flies into fits of rage he has no recollection of accompanied by a thunderous pounding in his head, he's Scottish. (Apologies to any actual Scottish people just playing with the stereotype)

I'll be buying the PHB, just to see what they did with it, but I don’t expect to play it. I didn’t like what I saw in the playtest, and I'm not nostalgic about the 2nd edition rule set (and that’s version I grew up with). Terrible interior art, lackluster classes with little to no options (brown books didn't help), and very static combat. No thanks. Not that Pathfinder is 150% better, but it and 3.0/3.5 are significant improvements in my opinion.

"What a great way for people who are cowardly and spitefully insecure in RL to get their jollies off on a daily basis."

When I explained PFO to my players that was their response. I don't think ALL the players that will pursue PVP aggressively will fall into this motif, but a large number will. It's going to be up to decent players to look out for each other and make the game more cooperative and less antagonistic. It's also up to individual players to reach out and look for folks with a similar mindset.

I think it'll be tricky either way but it's not impossible. Going to be interesting to watch, that's for sure.

Grand Lodge

So the full BAB is gone and the MAD issue may not be revolved since it didn't even get a mention in the blog. My excitement for this class is falling by the wayside, and I'm not that enthused with the others either.

Note how people wanting to play a chaotic Paladin will find Appeals to Tradition rather unconvincing.

If the Paladin should stay lawful good, then there need to be compelling reasons why it cannot be chaotic. "Because it's tradition" is a poor logical fallacy which is not accepted currency.

And the fact that Anti-Paladins exists makes the argument against LE and CG Paladins even weaker.

First, the anti-paladin is a horrible class that should have never become "official."

Second, strict adherence to a code is lawful behavior. Which is why the anti-paladin code has a "do whatever you need to" escape clause. It is in their code that they don't have to follow their code. That's chaotic. It's stupid but it's chaotic.

(Just to be clear, I mean no insult to you. I just really, really, really hate the anti-paladin.)

I agree, except for Warduke. Warduke was my favorite as a kid. Dont know why other than he looked really cool.

Edit* while technically Fighter, I always saw him as an antti-paladin iconic.

Like it or not the Paladin is the type of class one should discuss with the DM prior to character creation. It helps to get a feel for how you both view the class and its stipulations. Every group is going to have a different view on adventuring and interparty relations. Run the damn Paladin the way your group wants to. Being LG doesn't mean preclude acting like a normal person with faults and doubt, nor does it mean you should be Robocop or your party's Blue Falcon.

*Blue Falcon: military term for the guy who narcs on everyone, slang for Buddy Frakker, also the guy who won't count your 100th push up because you were .5 seconds over*

My benchmark is Lineage 2. If its a non-stop pvp murderfest designed for the closet psychopaths I ran against in that game, then its a complete waste of time. If its a pathfinder-esque, group centric with occasional pvp for those who dont mind then cool, I'm down for that. However I'm still not convinced its going to be anything but the former, and despite all the hand wringing and opinions thrown around on the forum, neither should any of you be. No ones played it, and there are no guarantees of anything. We wont know until a few weeks into launch.

Racism is always there, under the surface, regardless of who or "what" you are in contrast to those around you. In Miami some of my classmates in Rabbinical school were paranoid that the blacks and latinos were out to kill them, on the streets, some latino and black folks would give me the Nazi salute and throw rocks while walking my sister home from school. Neither side questioned their own fear/ignorance when confronted by me and my obvious dominican features. Idiots are always waiting in the wings to show you how stupid they really are..

And black/brown nerds are not a new thing. Our D&D club in high school (circa 94') was 50% black and/or hispanic.

Battlefield Airmen (Pararescuemen, Combat Controllers, TACP's, or Special Operations Weathermen) are the guys conducting patrols, directly engaging the enemy, performing reconnaissance on foot, attached to other branches SOF troops, and they're the only ones with the extensive skill set to do those things. Our cops guard the base, give traffic tickets, and protect the planes. A pilot would never be on the ground leading an "elite team" doing anything.

As far as O'neill, who's rocking pilot wings in the movie, and Cyberwarfare wings in the tv show....yeah no.

Don't forget the Special Tactics Officers who run herd on the rest of the Airforce SOF types. Whatever the insignia issues in SG-1 it makes fairly good sense to have AFSOC run something like the Stargate program - especially back when SG-1 was a current show. Less joint ops in those days, more turf wars :) SG teams were reconnaissance as much as anything. They operated drones and gathered data. They used specialists (archeologists etc.) in their teams. They did drag in the Marines for combat teams. It would be different today I'm sure.

Despite what wiki says STOs are Combat Controllers. In my beloved Chair Force we like to attCh grandiose titles to the officer side of the house even though it's the same job .
