Academy of Secrets | Shades of Ice

Every year the Acadamae—Korvosa’s prestigious school of the arcane arts—opens its gates to the city to host the Breaching Festival, where the most skilled infiltrators are invited to enter the magically guarded Hall of Wards or die trying. Testing their luck against the university’s strongest defenses, the competitors pull out all the stops as they vie for a chance at a fortune in gold and magical treasure. This year, the school’s headmaster has invited the heroes to participate, against the contest’s longstanding traditions. While the Breaching Festival has not seen a champion in over a century and a half, this year’s festival promises to be the deadliest trial the school has ever known. Should the heroes reign victorious, the secrets they may uncover promise more than gold and glory—they may rock the very foundation of the Acadamae, and even the entire city!

I ran this last night, and it ended up being less lethal than I thought it would be....
though we did not do Hard Mode, and we did not do the optional encounter, because, time.

One thing I did want to comment on, in regards to the timing on the final encounter.

1 round after Sevenfingers d-doors to the stern deck, the Voracious plane shifts to Golarian. I assume that means that anyone not on the ship gets trapped in Leng. Is this the intent, and what happens to those folks?

I ruled 5PP "body recovery", but....

I have just started reading through this one, and it should be another interesting one from Sam Polak. I’ve always enjoyed his work, hope to keep seeing more of it!

So, the point of my post is about encounter A1.

hazard p5 wrote:
The kobolds have turned the riverbanks into a treacherous mud pit within 10 feet of the bridge.

I am assuming this is down in the ravine, not with the approach to the bridge? This would seem more logical.

For this encounter, I like the idea of modifying the map! This is something that isn’t done enough... which leads to e counters being sometimes “Hill Country, again?”, or “Which dragon are we facing in Twisted Caverns”, or “Darklands? Is it a bridge or tunnel today?”

I am planning on making a prop for this, which will likely not be much more than a picture of a wooden bridge that I add a grid to... but seems appropriate... and fun.

I also love the idea that the PCs have to deal with kobolds and their traps without having to kill them. Maybe I will get an idea for my kobold PC from this?

For the map in A2, do we know what he Tien word for ant looks like?

I do also like how there is a solution if the PCs decide to murder hobo the kobolds. I assume at that point the adventure should be pretty much over since they killed the guides? I mean, it might make a difference how much info they learned prior. But...

(This is a spot that makes me wish that PFS had infamy)

I am sure there will be more later!

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 7-11.

A call from some of the Pathfinder Society's most esteemed leaders brings the PCs to a small town in Lastwall. While their mission to retrieve a relic of the Shining Crusade from a cathedral guarded by a fearsome beast seems straightforward—if extremely hazardous—interested parties from the nearby orc nation of Belkzen and beyond have their own plans that may not align with the PCs' own. Will the Pathfinders survive the deadly onslaught of a territorial guardian, or will they play into the hands of even more sinister forces?

Contents in Reaver's Roar also contribute directly to the ongoing storyline of the Silver Crusade faction.

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Gallows of Madness |Midnight Marauder

The Decemvirate sends members of the Pathfinder Society to the former crown jewel of Ustalav's royal courts, the decaying city of Ardis. Tasked by the Society to look into the fate of Absalom's former Master of Blades, Vonran Vilk, what they find will lead to exploration, diplomacy, murder, haunted pasts, and tragic love. Can the PCs stop the rampage of the Midnight Mauler before he kills again?

"The Midnight Mauler" was originally an exclusive adventure, run only by 4-star Pathfinder Society GMs, Venture-Captain and Venture-Lieutenant campaign volunteers, and Paizo staff for its first year, but has been revised and updated for public release

After a recent discovery of a lost city in the heart of the demon-infested Worldwound, Pathfinder agents from around the world flock to Nerosyan, capital of the crusader nation of Mendev, to prepare for the coming adventure. When the city falls under attack, however, everyone within its walls must take up arms to defend against the Abyssal hordes. Do the Pathfinders have what it takes to hold back the demonic onslaught, or will their souls be among the first to be consumed when the Diamond of the North falls?

Designed to be run as an epic, multi-table event in which the actions of each table has the potential to turn the tide of battle, Siege of the Diamond City sets a new standard of interactivity for the fan-favorite convention special format. In addition to the adventure itself, the special includes a detailed gazetteer of the city of Nerosyan as well as a full-page map suitable for tracking the threat level throughout the city during the course of the event.

A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 3-6.

It's finally here; the sugar-pop band sensation, Strawberry Machine Cake, is starting its Pact Worlds tour. Thanks to the Exo-Guardians' leader, Zigvigix, the PCs and Historia-7 have tickets to attend the holo-concert event of the year. As Zigvigix hopes to celebrate and mourn friends lost in the Scoured Stars, Historia-7 enlists the PCs to track down an attendee associated with a conspiracy against the Society. When a stunning revelation endangers the concert, it falls to the PCs to step in and save one of the most hotly anticipated concerts in Pact Worlds history.

Content in Star Sugar Heartlove!!! also contributes to the ongoing goals of the Dataphiles and Exo-Guardians faction.

There comes a time in a Minnesotan gamer's year when the distant sounds of dice rattling in the Scandinavian Ballroom at the Crown Plaze in Plymouth Minnesota reaches their ears! It is the time that they realize that Con of the North, the longest running games convention in Minnesota is coming soon!

Come join us in the adventure of a lifetime, where you will get the chance to join 1500+ of your best friends in games and camaraderie! We will be having 24 tables (or more?!) of Pathfinder Society, Starfinder Society, Pathfinder Society Playtest, and Pathfinder Adventure Card Game! This will span seven 5 hour sessions from Friday, February 15 through Sunday, February 17, 2019!

Not convinced? This is your chance to "Game like a Minnesotan!" You know you want to! See all the shenanigans! Play the finale to The Solstice Scar! Get the chance to meet some up and coming Organized Play authors (more on this later)! Remember, you're all Minnesotans to us!

Registration for the Con of the North takes place on their site, conofthenorth.org, if you haven't done so already!

Additionally, we will need volunteers to run all of these games! Please volunteer to GM as many or as few tables as you would like at MNPOP CotN Volunteer Form 2019. If you choose to only run games (you do not have to run all seven sessions, but cannot play at any tables), you can sign up as a "referee" when registering at the Con of the North to get in for free!

The dates, again:
Friday, February 15 through Sunday, February 17, 2019

This thread is to call out those exceptional GMs that you experienced at Gen Con this year, regardless of system.

I will start by calling out "TheCedic" (Mac Wyman, VA El Dorado Hills, CA)

---

Thank you for a wonderful game Saturday 8AM at Gen Con.

It was truly a pleasure to sit at a table with a well prepared and entertaining GM at Gen Con. Unfortunately, it is not as common of an experience as it should be. I don't get to play much at the con, so this is a precious thing.

Your table did hold for me one of the best experiences at Gen Con this year... Thorval grappling the Orca. Your expressions first when I said I was going to do it, and then when I succeeded, were priceless!

You challenged us, appropriately, and ran with our shenanigans. Lucky and Thorval had a wonderful time!

Keep up the good work!!

This message was previously sent as an email, in reference to VC subscription orders for ACG that were mischarged.

On orders:

4184957 (4.35)
4900159 (4.85)
5113601 (4.85)
5205386 (4.85)
5296584 (4.85)

On all of these, the order total is $0.00, yet I am getting charged for it. It was my understanding that I was not supposed to be charged for this subscription. It sort of looks like this would be the shipping price, but it clearly shows no shipping on the order.

What is really odd is that I was charged in spite of the order total being $0.00.

However, on orders

4011760
4757013

I was charged nothing (which I understand was correct).

I would greatly appreciate this being corrected.

Thank you for looking into this.

When a routine salvage operation deep in the Vast goes awry, the skittermanders Dakoyo, Gazigaz, Nako, and Quonx must board a luxurious cruise liner controlled by a rogue artificial intelligence to save their vesk boss and a group of hapless passengers. All manner of obstacles block their path to success, from malfunctioning massage tables to cybernetic undead to vermin from another plane, but if the skittermanders can work together (something skittermanders do best), they are sure to be hailed as tiny, furry heroes! That is, of course, if the passing pirate starship doesn't blast them all out of space first...

So,
for the games that we are hosting, should I make a new event for reporting purposes, since it appears that I am not a reporter for the ones in the Paizo Con system.

Just want to make sure we do things right, and I am starting to get things printed out.

So, just to let you all know, the individual games are being added to the system now. I would strongly suggest that if you are interested in playing in a particular game during Friday Afternoon Scenarios (Brought To You by 10,000 Lakes Gaming) that you register for the game you would like to play.

Note: the event title will be the scenario, with an organizer of 10,000 Lakes Gaming. You can filter out our games by selecting 10,000 Lakes Gaming as the organizer. As it happens, we are offering the following:
#3-21 Temple of Empyrial Enlightenment 1-5
#4-19 The Night March of Kalkamedes 1-5
#6-08 The Segang Expedition 1-5
#8-19 Treacherous Waves 3-7
#6-02 The Silvermount Collection 3-7
#4-05 The Sanos Abduction 3-7
#4-13: Fortress of the Nail 5-9
#4-06 The Green Market 5-9
#5-13 Weapon in the Rift 5-9
#8-20 Torrent's Last Will 7-11
#40 Hall of Drunken Heroes 7-11
Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (TBD) ACG

We are looking forward to another great Paizo Con, and an amazing afternoon of PFS gaming. See you there!

As Tonya states above, if there are any seats available after registration closes, they will have sheets for signing up posted at the convention.

And, you never know, there may be some surprises during this afternoon!

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1–5.

Valuable relics of religious natures have been disappearing on their way into Absalom and the Pathfinder Society stands to lose countless irreplaceable artifacts if the cause isn't found. Amid the bustling markets of the God's Market in the shadow of the Starstone Cathedral, the Society sets a plan in motion to ensure the parties responsible for the recent thefts are caught and brought to justice.

A Pathfinder Society Special designed for levels 1-12+

An ancient Thassilonian artifact has been unearthed in Magnimar and is to be auctioned off by the city government. In order to maintain good relations with those in power in the City of Monuments, the Pathfinder Society must obtain the relic without simply stealing it, although employing any other means necessary. It falls to the PCs to infiltrate the auction, sabotage the other bidders' efforts, and call in favors from those in the Society's debt to ensure the Runecarved Key (and the secrets it unlocks) belongs to the Pathfinders when the adventure draws to a close.

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for Levels 3–7.

Absalom is Golarion’s busiest and most populous city, but one of its largest populations goes largely unnoticed. You must venture into the sewers beneath the City at the Center of the World to stop the meddling dragons within from disrupting a vital Pathfinder Society operation.

Written by Dennis Baker.

This will be a semi-closed game. By agreement of all players and the GM, we'll be using the kobold pregens from True Dragons of Absalom. There will be much hilarity ensuing.

Note: due to the nature of this twist, the GM may have to ... tweak ... some interactions!

Ok, this one seems pretty interesting. I like the social influence system that is simple, reminiscent of The Blakros Matrimony.

However, I feel like I am missing something final encounter. How long from when the PCs confront Triloteya and/or start searching for bombs does Luwazi wait before taking the podium?

A Pathfinder Society Special designed for levels 1-11.

The world-renowned Blakros Museum has outdone itself, gathering an unrivaled collection of relics from the Shining Crusade, a holy coalition that felled the greatest lich to threaten Golarion. When trouble befalls the exhibit mere days before its debut, the Pathfinders intervene, only to discover that one of the relics is key to averting a far greater disaster that has laid in wait for a millennium.

The Solstice Scar is a multi-table interactive adventure in which each group's actions can affect neighboring groups and contribute to the entire room's success. This is an ongoing adventure that will be updated and rereleased incrementally several times each season, collectively telling a longer story while also presenting exciting stand-alone chapters.

I'll go ahead and post this, to get some interest going.

Keith Apperson has volunteered to run this, and I am planning on playing (with which character, I do not know, but likely high tier). We're probably doing this 10-3 -- we need to leave for the airport by 3:30 or so.

So, we've got 5 slots available for those that are interested. We're waiting for Majuba to get it onto the warhorn... when that is available, we'll have a link here.

Skinsend Spell

construct type

Skinsend wrote:
Your possessed skin is identical to you in all ways, except the following: It has only half the number of hit points you had at the time you cast the spell, and cannot be healed above this maximum; construct type, traits, and immunities; Str 3, Con —; DR 10/piercing or slashing; and compression (as the universal monster ability). Your skin can take any actions you could normally take in your own body (such as to fight or cast spells).

I have a player that contends that if a medium creature casts this spell, that because they gain the construct type, they also gain construct bonus +20 hp. However, from the text above, it seems clear that the skin has exactly half of the hitpoints of its caster.

So, an FAQ question: Does the possessed skin created by the spell skinsend when cast by a medium creature have half of the caster's HP, or half of the caster's hitpoints plus 20?
