Hello All,
I'm new to Pathfinder and I just wanted some clarification on the subject of hit die/dice. I've gone over the beta handbook and I am still a little fuzzy on their meaning. The specific points about hit die/dice that I want to confirm are:
1. Hit die is the die you roll for determining hit points gained when leveling up.
2. Hit dice refer to character level.
ie. Thrognar the Petty is a Barbarian 3/Ranger 2.
- Therefore, his character level is 5 and so is his hit dice.
3. If 2. is correct then the following are true:
A) Skill Acquisition (Betatest Handbook, pg. 52)
- It says that you can only get a number of ranks in a skill equal to your total Hit Dice.
- Therefore, using Thrognar, he could get any skill up to a maximum of rank 5 only at his current level.
B) Barbarian Rage Ability (Betatest Handbook, pg. 14)
- It says that during rage, a barbarian gains +2hp per Hit Dice.
- Therefore, using Thrognar, he would get +10hp at his current level when in rage.
4. The toughness feat states that everytime you gain a level or gain Hit Dice, you gain +1hp. I'm not sure how this works if Hit Dice=level, is that sentence just redundant?
That's it for now. I apologize if this seems like a very simple question, but I will appreciate any help. Thanks.
