From ENWORLD: Game designer Jeff Perren, who co-authored the original Chainmail game which later inspired Dungeons & Dragons, is in need of help. His daughter is attempting to obtain a stairlift for him, as he is wheelchair-bound and living in unacceptable conditions in a nursing home. The idea is to enable him to move in with his daughter, but for that their home needs to be altered. They're trying to raise $6,000 via Go Fund Me to achieve this goal, and are asking for donations from the gaming community. Here's the full message: To all our gaming friends: Jeff Perren, the co-author with Gary Gygax of the Chainmail war game in 1971 which would spawn, a few years later, the Dungeons & Dragons game we all know and love, needs our help. His leg amputated, he now lives away from his family, in a nursing home, and you know how hard it can be on one's morale. Now his daughter, Victoria Ricks Perren-Cserep, has a plan to get him to live in her house, but since he is wheelchair-bound, this means making the house accessible, and this means a stair lift to start and make this workable. This could mean a big change for Jeff Perren, and that would help greatly in all sorts of ways, psychologically, physically, you name it. Feeling good surrounded by your loved ones goes a long way towards living a good life. So please, consider pitching in, even a buck or two. Any amount matters. Please also share the link so a maximum of gamers get to know about this. Let's make it happen for Jeff. Thank you very much, friends! Go to Fund Jeff Perren.
Blackwood Glade is recruiting both individuals and companies for early enrollment. Now is your chance to get in at the ground floor and make a difference in one of the 33 original settlements. We are looking for possible leaders to help Guide Blackwood Glade during early enrollment. We have a group of about 30 members signed up at our web site
We are a mostly elven settlement and are accepting other races that fit our outlook in the game. We will even accept a few dwarves, if they shave their beards (Just kidding! About the beards that is). We are looking for all roles, but really need a mercenary type group to help defend our towers when the war of towers starts. Here is a little about Blackwood Glade: We are a fighter/Cleric Settlement. Caveat. Everything below is subject to slight adaptations constrained by the game mechanics of PFO yet to be fully understood/disclosed (like alignment constraints). Settlement Motto: Haven of Elvenkind. The ways of nature, magic and perfection.
Federate in a strongly elven-themed settlement all the diversity of Pathfinder's elves. Our unique Sponsored Companies will allow you to match your play-style with the peculiarities of Elven culture and the promising features offered by PathFinder Online. If you like playing an elf or a character that has ties with them, come to Blackwood Glade, join one of our companies or create your own. Our purpose is to be a significant faction, enough to stand-out and contribute to the heroic fantasy feeling of PFO while having fun doing so (the Elven way of course). Elves Only? We expect most of our players to use elves or half-elves, but a minority of other character races are OK with a proper background (elven friend). Among the unique companies sponsored by Blackwood Glade (BwG), you can already find the following: Company Indor-Mardil: CG, RP, PVE. The founding company focus will be the running and growth of the settlement. If you like to stick around in the settlement to RP with visitors and fellow elves, perhaps doing politics, or fending off monster threats to ensure safety of the surrounding outposts, then this is the right company for you. Company The Viridian Circle: TN, PvP, Diplomacy. These militant Druids are sworn to the protection of wilderness. If you like fighting for a cause and Druid or Ranger characters, this is the organization you need. Aside PvP, the Viridian Circle also intend to push its agenda via more subtle ways of influence and to create a network federating all the defenders of nature in the game that could be harnessed for serious factional warfare. Company The Vespiary: CN, RP, PvP. Followers of Calistria, these elves delight either in the shadow path of the assassin, or the bright path of the courtesan. But all revel in extracting information and striking their victim when they expect it the less. You are patient, like solo play or on the opposite social interactions and trickery? You like rogues or bards roles? Intrigue, lust, revenge, the ways of Calistria are fascinating to play. Company Hud Glanas Edhellen/League of Elven Purity: RP. Lovers of all that is elven, you are the guardians of the traditions, arts and purity of the elven culture. This company is for heavy RPers and amateurs of lore and elven language. You will instill in the game the real meaning of being an elf but also help other players in their RP. This company unlike the others is strictly reserved to elven characters. Right now we officially have three companies registered for the game (soon to get the rest): Indor-mardil, League of Elven Purity, The Vespiary Other Companies: We are presently looking for enough interested players to build of a company focused on trading and crafts (PvE, "elvenware"). And of course, if you have a great Elven concept you are welcome to build it among us. Blackwood Glade's sponsored companies are quite independent - their only constraint being to be led by Elves and having a majority of Elven characters. Laws: Few. Denizens and Sponsored Companies will have a lot of leeway as long as they are not committing evil acts or antagonizing nature and Elven culture. Contribution to the settlement will be mostly voluntary, depending on the tax system the game is providing. Politics/Alliances: Sponsored companies are free of their alliances, feuds and overall politics. The only requirement being that none of their acts engage BwG or any of the other sponsored companies without their explicit consent. Blackwood Glade is a signatory of the Roseblood Accord. Organization: Blackwood Glade will be led by an oligarchy made of the leaders of its Sponsored Companies. The founding company leader has final say in case of tie among the other leaders. The governing body typically decides priorities regarding production and development of the settlement as well as any feuds or alliances that would impact the settlement and all its sponsored companies. RolePlay: BwG is RP-oriented but welcome any kind of play-style. For those with little interest in RP, we just require that their character name be appropriate (PFO will have a good character name generator) and that they follow very simple guidelines within the settlement to not ruin other players’ immersion. The communication channels required for Settlement and Companies operations will be non-RP. I am running two characters in the Blackwood Glade area. Mourn Blackhand my main character and Malakith Telva his destiny Twin. If there are any members of Blackwood Glade reading this please check in here and at Blackwood Glade so we can see who is going to be active now in early enrollment and who is going to wait. Also, it’s been a long time since some of you have posted and I don’t have a very good memory so if you have started a company for Blackwood Glade and I left you out please forgive me and let me know what is happening. Thanks, Mourn Blackhand (Founder)
Ryan Dancey and Taylor Hainlen are AWESOME! I got into alpha access Thursday and ran into a problem where the game would crash before I got in. I messed around trying things myself until Friday night then I sent an email to Ryan Dancey. Both Ryan and Taylor were super responsive. They got my log files and figured out my problem and got me up and running perfectly and on a Sunday! I just wanted to post how happy I am at their care and attention and brag on them a little bit. Totally satisfied!
Indor-Mardil, The lord of the house, the caretakers of Blackwood Glade Alignment: Chaotic Good, Elves and friends (Characters core alignment NG, CG or CN) Purpose: Development of an elven community in our settlement, Blackwood Glade Play-Style: Settlement Development, PvE, and Role-Play. Description: Indor-Mardil (IdM) is the founding company of Blackwood Glade (BwG - formerly known as Taur-im-Duinath), a place where one could find all kind of companies each with their specific way of playing elves characters in Pathfinder Online. Indor-Mardil is however focused on ensuring that BwG strives as a settlement by making it alive with as many players as possible and providing the resources for building and maintaining structures. Development: A distinctive feature of PFO not found in most other MMO is persistence of the settlement building and development. One of the focus of IdM will be to use and manage all the features that will be available in PFO to this purpose. Players wanting to try a character more particularly dedicated to settlement support role like Commoner, Expert or Aristocrats will find the right environment by joining IdM. PvE: A settlement could not strive without a safe environment and easy access to the area's resources. The second mission of the company will be to control the escalations around BwG and when necessary mount expeditions against specific targets that provide recipes or materials to its craftsmen and refineries. Although not focused on PvP, IdM members will also raise to the defense of the settlement holdings against adverse parties whenever necessary, and ensure the safety of traders and gatherers in it's area of control. We expect some players to focus themselves to either PvE or Development, but many would probably also enjoy the use of two characters dedicated to each role and use them when they feel it. Role-Play: Role play is an option available to all members of IdM. BwG intend to be one of the best location in-game for elven-themed role-playing. With their focus on the settlement development, members of IdM will have the most opportunities to have In-Context interactions with other role-players and visitors. Role-Play within BwG also has more meaning due to the world persistence: your role-play actions can have a political impact in the settlement development. Organization / Leadership: The company will be led by its founder (Mourn) and a 2nd in command elected by the company members. For non-urgent decisions, the leadership will put it to vote and decided by the majority of the company members. The two leaders will be the representative of the Company at the Blackwood Council. Who should join Indor-Mardil?: If you are interested in playing an elf or a character having ties with elves or elven culture, IdM is the right company to start with. Given IdM's goals, any role or class archetype is welcome. Although IdM encourage Role-Playing, we are welcoming non role-players in accordance with the Blackwood Glade charter.
Taur-im-Duinath* is an elven-themed settlement and ambitious project for the EE, if you are new to these forums and need a quick summary, you can check the Guild Page on the Landrush or the spoiler page below... Spoiler:
====================================================================== Caveat. Everything below is subject to slight adaptations constrained by the game mechanics of PFO yet to be fully understood/disclosed (like alignment constraints). Company Deathwatch: TN, PvP. http://deathwatchcompany.com/about It is said that Elves adapt to their environment, and these sure have blended with the River Kingdoms culture: You want to hone your mastering of steel or arcane and like team play? Deathwatch is for you - join these bounty hunters having no target out of reach of their bows, blades and lightning bolts ... as long as their price is met. Company The Unquenchable Fire: CN, RolePlay, PvP. You are a follower of Calistria, Elven goddess of Trickery, Lust and Revenge. Some prefer the shadow path of the assassin, others the bright path of the courtesan. But all revel in extracting information and striking their victim when they expect it the less. We think that an elven-themed settlement is a positive contribution to the fantasy setting of any MMO game. More so in PFO where many Pen & Paper players are joining and presumably expecting to feel Golarion in the game, not just Pathfinder rules. Our elven settlement being run by player characters is the opportunity to reflect on the diversity of the elven race in Golarion and how it would fit in the River Kingdoms. Not diversity of elves as individual characters, but rather as specific social structures (companies). Companies allow us to cater for different playing style, letting players decide to focus on PvE, PvP, RP, Crafting, Trading, Building, Diplomacy, or any combination thereof. This mix of player’s chosen game focus and of an elven theme is what will really make these companies unique. The elven theme uniqueness is not just a label one would put on a company though. This is also an opportunity to adopt a specific play style: crafters would focus on fine arts rather than bulk goods; fighters on mobility, hit and run, or ranged tactics, priests on nature or magic, etc. We already have two companies ready for the EE (The founding company to support the settlement development and Deathwatch who joined us recently) but are working on several others in the spirit expressed above that need staffing and interested people:
You can check us at our website or on this thread to either join one of the existing companies, help us shape those taking form or even better come with your idea of an elven company! You already have a company and would like to join, but what is the fine print? 1. Settlement alignment will be NG: your company chosen alignment must therefore be NG, LG, TN or CG. 2. Elves inside: The face of your company (i.e. leader or those acting as leaders) need to be elven. Majority of members need to be elves(and we can agree two half-elves are worth one elf for that matter ;) 3. Elven attitude: Yeah that’s a bit fuzzy but if you’re joining us we trust you to keep an elvish flavor to your character or group and our traditionalists will be there to always remind you how an elf is supposed to behave anyway. The more you’re into RP the more we expect from you, conversely our traditionalists won’t be running behind PvPers to tell them how to properly cast a spell or hold their sword like an elf. Any questions ? This thread is for you. Guild Contact: Mourn Blackhand (vonschlick@att.net) *Don’t fret with Sindarin pronunciation, we’ll change the name for the EE anyway :D
(We currently have 9 members and are actively seeking more.) Although one would be surprised to find Elves congregating in this fringe part of the Rivers Kingdom, rumors says that their kind have settled somewhere in the western part of the Echo Woods. They call it “Taur-Im-Duinaith” or “Forest-among-the-rivers” in their tongue. There are many speculations about their presence; some say they are just a loose companionship of Forlorn Elves trying to find stable friendships among themselves; others that it’s a coterie of Elven wizards looking for artefacts of their civilization; and some more politically inclined that it’s a faction banished to this remote place by their queen following a feud in Kyonin, this theory immediately countered with the opposing view that they are an expedition sent with queen Telendia's benediction to extend the reach of Kyonin in the River Kingdoms and increase the pressure on the Seven Arches Druids. Only one thing is certain, they stick to themselves and avoid contact with non-Elves unless dictated by trade or territory matters. Some pretend that humans or rather half-elves have been accepted in their community but it is very speculative. Some also accuse them of harboring Elves that are wanted for crimes, but on the other hand everyone recognize that they are a force for good and would not hesitate to help fight evil denizens of the forest that would otherwise threaten human settlements. Basically they would be good neighbors if not for their radical insistence that the flora and fauna of the forest be not disturbed, creating conflicts with settlements too ambitious in their gaming, foraging or timbering.
The only requirement to join the Settlement is to have an Elven character and behave as such (Elves of Golarion PF reference book highly recommended for this purpose). Human and Half Elves (when implemented) will be able to join with an Elven backer, proper background and Elven ethos inclinations (the least requirement being that the character speaks Elvish).
At the beginning we would like to focus on the growth of the settlement to provide a solid base, but players will be basically free to do what they want around if they are more inclined in exploration rather than expansion or political matters, Taur-Im-Duinath is just their home and we hope will offer all player liking Elves characters to express their creativity and help build a strongly flavored Elf faction in the game. Contact: Mourn Blackhand(Vonschlick@att.net) Companies: Company #1 Name: The Order of the Unquenchable Fire Accepted Races: Elf, Half-elf and Elf Friends Greetings, I am BartucTheBloody and I would like to announce the Order of the Unquenchable Fire. We are a Chaotic Good elven chartered company that is part of the Taur-im-Duinath Elven Kingdom. We are currently recruiting individuals who are interested in helping establish an elven kingdom. Calistria is the Goddess of trickery, lust and revenge. The order's main focus will be exploring, patrolling, spying, assassination, and paramilitary activities. We will be the clandestine arm of the Elven kingdom of Taur-im-Duinath(Think the Blades from The Elder Scrolls Series but darker and elven). We are currently looking for top agents to help structure the organization and establish rules/practices. The Taur-im-Duinath Elven kingdom will be dedicated to establishing an elf kingdom in the Riverlands and re-establishing elf culture. Each chartered company within the kingdom will get a vote on major decisions. In order to help make the PFO Kickstarter a success and to help a couple of people who might have missed out. I upped my Crowdforger Buddy to a Crowdforger Guild level. I have all the Daily Deals, first month early enrollment and you would also receive all the Miniatures, pdfs, etc. that a crowdforger pioneer would receive. A lucky two people will be able to receive all this for the cost of the slot paid via paypal. But there is one catch. I will give priority to those who want to play an elven character and join the Taur-im-Duinath Charter company, but I will consider all entries in case there are no elves out there with interest. Just PM me if you are interested. If I understand things correctly, I can change my buddy level pledge to a guild level pledge and still get all the daily deals and first month beta play, etc. since I signed up in the first week. That being said, would anyone be interested in buying one of the guild slots off me when the kickstarter ends? If that is within the rules?
