DM Stalwart, I'm especially sorry to do this to you. When I signed on, I didn't anticipate this shift in my work schedule. Please don't be discouraged by my inability to stick with the game. You're running an interesting game with a good premise, and your writing and DM'ing so far have been engaging and fun.

So kill off Kiddrik, have him walk away ... whatever works for this team and the story.

That’s risky … not that I doubt your improvisational skills.”

His eyes return to the group as his mind races down the different conversational avenues. ”Having multiple exit strategies is also smart. The sewers, the basements, the backdoor, the redoubt … we’ll need options should things get complicated once inside." He looks at Kage and the pair of halflings, "I believe your work at the redoubt is at least sufficient. Hitting them any harder would likely result in a security response in that area that we don't want to have to deal with. Roughly knowing where it is and how it is guarded gives us more information should we need to use it as an exit ... and then lose our pursuers in the surrounding wilds. As for the dogs ... we can hit a butcher before we begin the operation."

"We’ll also want some improvisational options that don’t rely on the building or its occupants. Spells, scrolls, or magic items for bypassing doors, walls, and barriers. I've heard of spells to transmute stone and wood, among other things. Also, options for non-lethally or non-violently bypassing guards and sentinels. I’d prefer a clean kill on this type of target, as I doubt very much that our leaders would approve of dealing with the weight of Cheliax’s wrath on this. On the other hand, I'm not naive enough to think we'll be able to get into and out of such a facility without drawing some additional blood.”

He pauses to study the few resources they’ve recovered, idly tapping the fingers of his right hand on Blackstone’s handle. ”Also, have we actually located the target? We’ll waste precious time and resources finding him if we can’t narrow down the possibilities for his location at any given time. Secondarily, it would be nice to be able to execute the act while he’s relatively unobserved … if that’s even possible.”

This being Christmas week, I'm likely to be posting erratically at best, though I'll be as proactive as I can.

About 1) ... I'm guessing if they're still digging/constructing the tunnel, they'll need a pretty solid flow of craftsmen down there. If given proper credentials, and supported with a reason not to have to interact too heavily with those around him, Kidd can go in as a carpenter and gather as much intel from within the tunnel as possible. If he's not supervised too tightly, he may even be able to do a bit of scouting towards the Citadel itself, depending on what he runs across.

2) To get started, a day spent Gathering Info and Bribing key personnel may get us some traction here. The characters in the group who's skill set don't really lend themselves to Gather Info or espionage-type stuff could also be posted up on a stakeout to case the joint, watching for any Citadel servants or staff who seem like they might be decent sources of information. Isolating a disgruntled Citadel worker or two, liquoring them up while we pump them for information, then lightly poisoning them so they're laid up for the week we do the operation may give us a low-level person or two to impersonate for the infiltration, when the time comes.

3) I have no better idea than the lictor one (though I had to look up what a lictor was). Double bonus on this idea if we can find a lictor who is known to work with a small team or entourage. Having Eris or someone as the false-lictor able to speak for everyone else who needs to get in (but doesn't have the skills to do so without raising alarms) seems ideal.

4) Still noodling on this. But to cover our tracks in an effort to maximize our chances at a clean escape, is there some form of a persistent Silent Image we can put in place in the cell once the kill has been made? Giving us thirty minutes or an hour to begin our escape while the guards think the mark is passed out from interrogation would be nice.
Sorry for my quiet ... busy holiday weekend. From his build and movements—not to mention the unique blade in his hands—it’s easy for everyone to connect him with swordsman who was given the honor of the killing blow the evening before. His Mantis gear removed (likely stowed in the large travel pack currently pushed into the room’s corner), he wears unremarkable traveler’s clothes, though the long crimson scarf—in the Varisian style—remains wrapped around his neck. Pale blue eyes, the color of frozen water, peer thoughtfully out of the clean-shaven face of a man with only twenty or so winters to his name.

Through his mask, his eyes follow the target’s frantic struggles against yet another halfling Red Mantis, the guardsman threatening her, then up at the massive construct.

It was an easy decision. Gaspar was the target, supposedly the other Red Mantis was a professional—meaning she could take care of herself—and the construct was little more than an obstruction to be ignored and left lumbering in place when Gaspar was taken care of.

Plus, I’m not about to let another agent solo the kill on MY contract, he thinks darkly. Blackstone’s menacing presence calls thirstily to bathe in Gaspar’s blood, encouraging his decision.

Kiddrik steps into position, using the halfling grappler’s tactics to make the most of his own strike … then his training takes over. The precise words of arcane power come easily to his lips as he flows into his blade form. The Comet Falls, a downward stroke delivered from a two-handed, high grip, aiming to drive Blackstone and its stored icy power into the squirming man’s heart.

The attack pierces his Invisbility glamer, and it falls away, revealing the young Red Mantis. His blood-red mask rests atop a tall, thin, athletic and wide-shouldered form robed in crimson-and-black ceremonial silk armor. Two gloved hands grip the pommel of a strange, light-sucking sawtooth sabre made of black stone, and the hilts of yet two more sabres ride over each shoulder. In addition to a small black pack and similarly black cloak, the young Mantis wears a distinctive crimson scarf, its bulk enshrouding his neck while its ends hang loosely.
