Kavax examined the situation.

"...Yeah, we can work with that. Problem is that it'd be draining for us all, and whatever made this would catch on and be rather unhappy about the messing. Still, we don't have much better options yet, do we? So unless anyone wants to propose something else, might as well give it a go."

If no one protests, Kavax will gather his crew and start modifying the circle, carving into the wood with draconic talons.

Kavax raised an eyeridge. A think trail of smoke trickled from one nostril, before he nodded and gave a toothy grin.

"Extreme, eh? Well, alright, let's see what we can do. Hey, Del-Gan, <Menacing Growl>, <Incomprehensible Hissing>, let's see if we can hijack this circle and turn it into a proper Chaos Rift. Can't have anyone calling up the End without a horde of draklings to make a welcoming party after all. Anyone else who wants to help can too."

Kavax is going to attempt some Big Magic, in order to sabotage the ritual and have it summon Dark Draklings instead. Keeper can list requirements/complications, or other people can offer their expertise or opinions now, at least if I'm understanding it right.

Probably complications/solutions I can guess at right now; Kavax already has 3 helpers but might need more. They know how to do a rift-opening ritual, but might need more study to get it to work off this circle. He may need to do a Use Magic check to keep the draklings in line after summoning them, instead of them just rampaging. It might need to be precisely timed to a particular moment in the loop.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax snorted.

"Eh, maybe someone was trying for me? If so, they're doing it pretty wrong. I don't see any great dark sorcerers here incanting the proper rituals, and that circle isn't anywhere near big enough."

Kavax contemplated the circle some more.

"Does mean I could probably short-circuit it, though. Give it what it wants, but not in the way it wants it. I'd want a couple others to help channel things. Del-Gan over there would probably be a good help, he knows this sort of stuff. But neither of us are really that good at the part where it doesn't violently explode or summon angry demons or whatever. Though I suppose another option would be to try to modify it to call up some Draklings instead, and lean on me and the other two to keep them in line. Might drain the energy out of any other rituals this one is connected to that way.

Kavax has a couple ideas. Anybody have opinions on them?

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax can almost certainly think up a ritual to destroy the circle (destruction is his job), but is concerned about collateral damage unless some other people want to help contain it.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax doesn't know any German. Some Chinese, some proto-anglo-saxon, and a fair number of dead or progenitor languages, but no modern German

Kavax looked at the ritual circle.

"Well that can't be good. Don't know right off if it's the kind that gets better or worse if you break the circle, though. Anybody got ideas, or should we just break it and hope we reset if it explodes violently?"

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax's gaze at the door narrows. "Yeah, that's bad magic in there. Blood and Death kind of bad. Probably needs to be wrecked some way or another if we want to stop whatever it's doing, and whatever it's doing probably isn't good. Well, time to grit teeth and barge through."

Kavax then proceeds to grit his teeth, and charge straight at the door, destructive instincts overpowering mere disgust and distaste.

Tough: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 6) + 3 = 14
It takes more than a boarded up door and a little dark magic to stop Kavax, it seems. Now to find out if this was a bad idea or not!

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax eyes the door.

"Blegh. Feels nasty.... Probably important somehow though. And getting rid of nasty things is part of my job description."

He considered the feeling, trying to dig through hazy memories for anything that felt the same... and what to do about it.
Though given his job and proclivities, the answer would probably be 'kill it with fire'.

One more try at Investigating before smashing?: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 3) - 1 = 7
Hey, Kavax actually succeeds at investigating something! For now, he'll ask what can hurt whatever is beyond the door, as that is his wheelhouse.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Hey, if Kavax didn't break the stairs, they're probably totally safe! At least for people who weigh less than Kavax.

Kavax looks around the old abandoned room.

"Alright, I'm not very good at investigating, but if this room was hidden there's probably something to it. Maybe I'll need to wait for some of the others to get back over here."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax carefully, and somewhat slowly, steps into the hold. He didn't mind the dark, but this place felt like something that could be trapped, so he was wary.

Unfortunately, he isn't actually all that good at spotting traps.

Investigate?: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 5) - 1 = 6
It would probably be better for someone with a positive Sharp rating to help look... but oh well, we'll use the kind of checking where you just get hit by all the traps and hope you can shrug it off.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax eyes the hole.

"We might as well at least check things out. As for if we stay dead... Well, if I knew of a practical way to stay dead, I probably wouldn't be here. At least I've got a few old friends along to help as well. They don't know how to stay properly dead either."

With that he starts cautiously stepping through, one scaled hand on the hilt of his own sword, and less immediately durable allies following behind.

Kavax and entourage are up for an excursion.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax wandered over to Jessica, not having had much luck on his own.

"Hmm, yeah, that looks really suspicious. We haven't found too much, beyond attracting a bit of attention. Should we try to gather the others, or look over there right away? Splitting up doesn't matter as much when a failed loop will set us all back anyway."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Unless anyone stops him, Kavax spends a bit of time just wandering the nearby areas of the hotel, so as to have an idea of the overall layout, while also keeping an eye out for anything that seems suspicious.

Sharp?: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2) - 1 = 5
Apparently not very successful

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax scratched his chin.

"Pretty sure we can't actually leave until we beat that thing. WE know where it lairs now, we just need to know how to kill it. Or well, a viable plan to kill it. I technically will eventually, but I don't think the rest of you want to go through this for that long."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax raised his eye ridges, intrigued. "Interesting. I don't normally die to heat that easy. Don't normally go that quietly either. Which means it was probably something else entirely. Probably need to figure out how that thing actually works before we can properly fight it. But at least now we know where we can find it once we have a way to stop it."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax eyed the thing warily. It wasn't attacking immediately, but that just suggested it didn't feel a need to.

"...Yep, horrible monster. This will probably be unpleasant. I'd guess I'm taking point?"

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

If it makes you feel any better, I'm also a bit behnind, though I plan to get a post up sometime soon.

Edit; It also looks like we might get a reset soon, since we've found the monster but have no idea how to properly kill it. But hey, we might pull it off! Or at least learn something about it in the process.

You could also spend some time trying to chat with <menacing growl>, <incomprehensible hissing> or Del-Gan. They've been mostly in the background so far, probably partly because I've been really busy and not posting much.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax eyes the tunnel. "Soo... chances this turns into some kind of weird cave with a horrid monster in it?"

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax is content with just busting the door open. He can always smash it properly later. The latch might not work properly anymore though...

Kavax looks around, comfortable in the heat. "So.... isn't it usually a bad thing for the gauges on this to be so high? Maybe fixing it would help? Not that I'd be much of any good for that. Would probably end up exploding it instead."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax nodded.

"Might as well. If what the others say is true, it's not like the destruction will matter much."

Kavax braces, and readies to slam into the door with draconic might.

Kavax shrugs somewhat to the questions of time shenanigans.

"Eh, fiddling with timelines isn't worth it. You can pull off a loop or something sometimes, but anything bigger seems like a way to make things end badly. There are things around that don't take kindly to beings that destabilize the world like that."

He also comes along to the boiler room. If nothing else, it will be warm there.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax shrugged and shifted his shoulders.

"So, whatever the gribbly is, it won't leave the hotel. Maybe can't, if it's what is supporting the loop. But leaving just gets you reset eventually. The locals don't remember things, but can tell that something's wrong. And the hotel burns down at the end of every loop, probably so that the local nasty can feed off of everyone's fear or whatever it's doing this all for. That all correct for a summary of what we know so far?"

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax sat, collected a drink more or less at random, and considered the situation.

"Well, I can at least confirm that this place is not, in fact, Purgatory, nor are we actually dead yet. I'd know if someone'd actually killed me again."

Meanwhile, he leaned back and just tried to get a feel for the situation, while quietly giving the Dragonfang Greatsword a nudge to see if it was being drawn toward any of the people here. Didn't hurt to check.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax, not having much in the way of preparations or anything to do, just hangs around somewhat awkwardly.

"Alright, so some kind of loop going on, though no clue whether it's real or fake. At least that's a start. ANd... well, I don't have too much to fear from fire or cold under normal circumstances, so if we have to go through a loop I'll probably at least get a look at the 'something else'."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax shrugged at the lack of useful information.

"Eh, not that surprised. We'll need at least some more clues to figure out what this is. Doesn't mean we can't start trying to find out."

At Carlos' question, he then points back to Del-Gan. "Oh, this is Del-Gan. He and I actually go way back. Been... ten, twenty? How many doomsdays has it been? Eh, not that important. Anyhow, he summoned me, I ate him, he was actually quite clever and had a persistent contingent resurrection ritual set up keyed to his own death, and now we're stuck with each other until the day someone figures out how to actually kill one of us and make it stick. Old pals, you know. Think that covers the basics, eh Del?"

Okay, I finally got Paizo to cooperate with me again. Been unable to log in for a few days here. I'll have to catch up (it's rather late for me right now)

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax followed along slightly awkwardly, before having a thought. "So, this place seems like it's from the past, right? Anybody got any ideas for how to tell whether it's actual time travel, dragged out from stasis or something, or some kind of illusion or mind trickery? There's lots of options and not much to tell from."

He simmered for a moment, before looking over his shoulder.

"Hey, Del-Gan, you got any ideas? Might be something like what you got up to back in the old days."

Also thinking this might be an opportunity to try to introduce some of Kavax's hangers' on. Or at least one of them anyway.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax rolled his eyes, as apparently they weren't bothering at subtlety.

"Hey, weird stuff is going on here. Probably best not to think on it too much. Well, unless something scary tries to eat you."

He also checked over his shoulder to make sure that the dragonkin following him around were not, in fact, planning on eating anybody. Well, at least unprovoked.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax shrugged. "Don't carry much luggage beyond what's on me most of the time."

He did wonder exactly what was going to turn out to be the center of whatever magic was in effect here, but figured voicing that to people who were apparently bystanders wouldn't be wise. That and it was probably best not to draw too much attention to himself. Better not to strain the illusion.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

For now, Kavax's ally team consists of <Menacing Growl>, <Incomprehensible Hissing>, and Del-Gan. The Dragonfang Greatsword is annoyed about not yet having found anybody sufficiently violent to wield it. I'll mostly be leaving voicing them to the GM unless otherwise instructed.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Alright, I just need to get in here. If I keep being perfectionist I'll never get anything done.

Kavax came meandering up the road, his trio of new friends (and an irritable sword) in tow. He came up to Jerry.

"So... what do you think the chances are of me eventually burning this building down? Just want to get an outside opinion."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Alright, settling down after travelling for the holidays. Now, how to reinsert myself into the situation...

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax shrugged.

"I haven't got much of anywhere specific to go. Just tend to end up where I need to be sooner or later."

It would be kind of nice to know what Kavax's team ended up as. While the two dragonkin are obvious, still need answers as to who ended up with the Dragonfang Greatsword, and who any other members might be.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax shrugged. "We're at where we're at, and we'll go where we need to go. If I just wander along, I'm sure to end up someplace interesting sooner or later. As for the demon... Eh, I'm more familiar with the breaking of seals than the constructing of them. I mean, technically, if I were fully manifested, I might be able to fight it on even or better terms, but that's a horrible idea to attempt to execute. Too much collateral damage anyway."

Kavax also turned to look at the others who'd been dropped out with them, taking stock of who else remained.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax looked over at Jessica. "There's magic to it. You know a Name now, and Names have power. And a lot of the time, the big ones have it set up so that if you know their Name, they know that you know. And that gets their attention, big time. Can't say much about this specific one though."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

I suppose there is the fact that Kavax was going to come out of this with an allied team grown at least semi-organically through the process... but now we'll just have to figure out who all got dumped out with him.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax contemplated things. He had a great deal of questions to ask, but would almost certainly not get helpful answers for most of them. Though, perhaps there was something to ask.

"...Not sure if this is your department, but I'm guessing there's something big going on with me being here early. Probably can't get full answers, I know, but I will ask; was my premature arrival really just because some warlock utterly flubbed the ritual, or are there... other powers in play?"

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

I'm here. But we could possibly use another.

I've been keeping an eye on this, but I've been the last post for quite some time.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Also possible. Kavax was actually gradually getting his next experience reward as things went on there, but things could still probably be glossed over.

Yep. I was the last one to post, so other people get to start by reacting to Kavax being casually ominous.

Ouch! Well, I hope things go well with you! At least there are no terrible monsters stalking you or anything, right? (Ignore those howls in the background, I know nothing about any mutant wolves).

So, where'd everyone go? Is it just holidays, or have people vanished?

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax snorted, a small whiff of steam exiting his nostrils.

"Oh, yeah, I've got tons. Usually I'm one of the very last ones to show up, actually. There's at least five more of these weapons made out of my body parts lying around somewhere or another for one thing. And an indeterminate but large number of lesser dragonkin. A few other odds and ends as well."

He then shrugged, jaded to his own nature. "As for what they're trying to do here? It kind of looks like they're trying to cause a catastrophic incident of some kind or another. Only reason I can think of to stick a bunch of dangerous creatures who do not appreciate being confined in a bunch of cells with frankly rather poor security. Plus the whole 'driving monsters towards the road' thing."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

"Old story short? It's my right-front fang. A previous incarnation of me, anyway. Forged into a semi-intelligent empathic weapon that will now be seeking for a Wielder to bring under my banner to use it. That it is here is worrying. Along with these two dragonkin here, who I don't quite remember but can tell are... relatives of a sort. Though some of it, combined with Jessica over there, just shows that the Bleachers really might as well have been reading down a list of 'what can we summon that will horribly murder us when it inevitably breaks containment?' and calling up everything on it."

I am somewhat busy currently and may be more terse than usual in my posts for a bit.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax's eyes narrow in distant recollection as he looks into the box. "I know this. Certainly not leaving it in the hands of these madfolk. I'll have to find someone who's right to use it."

He pulled the item out of the box, revealing a hefty six-foot long greatsword, obsidian black in color, with the same kind of reflective sheen, and a distinct curve to it. A closer look showed that the blade was in fact made of a single, massive tooth, naturally sharp and serrated on the inside of the curve, and artificially sharpened to a razor's edge on the other side, with a relatively simple and very robust-looking hilt somehow fused to the root. Those attuned to such things could sense potent destructive magics woven into its form... or perhaps naturally imbued into the fang that was its material.

What might be really worrying is the implications of a creature with six-foot long teeth. And that somebody made a sword out one of them.

The Dragon-Fang Greatsword thus retrieved, Kavax went to follow the others. Perhaps it would call to one of them, perhaps not.

"Alright, before we move out, I'm going to see why the Bleachers put a box in a holding cell."

Kavax pried the long box open to view its contents, though he would move to catch up with the others soon enough.

Kavax snorted as he thought.

"Well, I'm not really afraid of flamethrowers, if we need to deal with them... but I'm much more concerned about the fact that this has been... too easy. Why isn't this place even guarded? It's almost like they want the prisoners to escape. I'd stay on watch for traps or trickery. That said, I'm not for leaving a bunch of prisoners in the hands of these Bleacher folks."

Kavax also went to investigate the room with the box in it if it hadn't been opened yet.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax considered the goings-on. The dragonkin felt... familiar. He'd probably remember something about them sooner or later. The rest he was less certain of, though he could make some guesses.

"Hmm... Hey, what kind of compensation are you asking for, anyway? Because with what's been said... is it one of those magic things where the deal is part of the magic? Eh, either way, these Bleachers sound like trouble. The kind of trouble where maybe I'm going to end up having to have a talk with them where I tell them that they can either stop on their own, or I end up killing them all. Because I'd rather stop there than have to kill them all, and everyone tangentially related to them, and flatten every building they ever set foot in, and then light it all on fire."

Kavax finished unlocking the door, opened it, and then drew his sword and struck it through the binding circle to release the two dragonkin.

"So I suppose we're doing a full breakout here, huh? Certainly don't want to leave anyone in the hands of those kind of folks. Hopefully everyone here's reasonable."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Are the dragonkin out yet? If not, Kavax will keep working at it. If they are, he'll poke at a different door.

Kavax looks between the 'Bedimm' and the 'Mystery Person'.

"Heh, I'm hardly one to judge someone just because they're immensely dangerous and lash out at people who lock them up. As long as they're willing to play nice and don't do anything to get on my bad side. Besides... old experience tells me that the kinds of people who run these operations are usually far more dangerous, and frequently worse monsters than anything they lock up."
