Hermes close the door behind them and follows a pace or two behind Arthur and to his right.

"That is correct, sir."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Yes Sir. The most likely issue is not that they pose a threat, but that they may have some subroutine they will carry out while unobserved."

Nonetheless he still holds the door.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Yes sir."

Hermes steps up to the door and holds it open for Arthur.

I knew I forgot something in my last post.

"I simply added them to the front of its directives branch. The original coding should still be present, save for the circumstance in which it is programed to erase certain code after having it's code manipulated."

The small LED screen on Hermes mouth and eyes displays a smiley face with upturned eyes as his facial recognition software reads Arthur's grin. Arthur doesn't remember telling him to do that.

In his same monotone voice, conflicting slightly with the happy visage, he replies.

"Statistically speaking, it is of mostly the same components as meals I would provide, but with incorrect portion and nutrition ratios."

Arthur briefly wonders what prompted the LED display to change before he is inturupted by his stomach growling "Let's head to the cafeteria"

"Should the units be left unsupervised, sir?"

Hermes pins it to the table with one hand while the tip of one of his fingers pops open and accesses the robot's code via a programming port. There's a small beep and he retracts the access and lets the bot go.

"I have added the three laws to its primary directives. It is now forbidden to attempt harm. You may work with it at your leisure."

He stands back up straight and sheathes the blade somewhere in his forearm.

"Would you like me to bring your breakfast, Sir, or would you prefer to go to the cafeteria?"

When the chess bot smacks Arthur, Hermes immediately has an electrified blade drawn against it, humming softly.

"The chess playing unit has made an attempt to injury you. Would you like for me to retire it? Or alternatively, rewrite its directives to include the Three Laws?"

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"That is unfortunate. It allows for the possibility of others laying claim to similar designs. It is likely that I am solely incapable of interrupting or circumventing magic of this scale to reattempt to file the parents, though I may try if you would like, Sir. If this planet is entirely concealed from outside interference, perhaps it may be worthwhile to investigate local intellectual property laws and file patents with the government of this planet as opposed to the Dragon Empire."

He seems not to notice the apparent distaste of the fruit robot and Arthur's inspection.

Arthur spent the evening quietly enjoying the presence of his friend under the watchful robotic eye of his robot butler.

When he gets back to his room he has trouble sleeping and finds himself awake early morning at a work bench with mechanical parts and a couple small semiautonomous robots the size of one's hand strewn about "uh... did I do this?"

"Yes, sir. It is possible you may feel fatigue and slight confusion, symptoms of Sleep Walking. This is a new behavior for you, and may be hazardous to your health if continued. I was unable to prevent your sleep movements due to your having coded rule 37 in my prime functions: HRMS-XI is not to wake Arthur Barren or any designated parties or by inaction allow said parties to be woken, unless A) The Awakening is due to an alarm set by Arthur Barren or as an indication of emergency. B) Arthur Barren has instructed HRMS-XI to awaken Arthur Barren under specified circumstances. Or C) Arthur Barren stands to be critically injured as a result of being asleep."

Hermes steps towards one of the robots and sets an apple down in front of it, which it starts to peel with a few bladed legs.

"I accessed their code through a proxy program to test their purpose, in accordance with Product Testing protocols. This unit peels fruits excluding bananas, durians, and coconuts. The unit on the top left of the desk plays chess and won 7 out of 10 matches I played against it. It expresses no capacity to learn the play styles of repeated opponents and shows a tendency towards castling when other options would be more viable."

He discards the apple peelings, leaving the bare fruit for Arthur.

"I was unable to file patents, due to a block in communications, which I am unable to deduce the source of."

Arthur and Melody wouldn't even know Hermes was there save for Arthur's trackers installed in both Hermes and the stealth suit.

"You arrived at this academy, Sir. And you assisted in the evacuation of the Firebird's sun, sir."

As he tends to do, Hermes had faded into the background.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

I'd be fine with that.

Hermes can still be the Baymax if you need it as well.

EDIT: Also, pm for you Lyn.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

For the record, Hermes is still in the SIM room and can be addressed, but it's just incredibly easy to forget he's there unless you're looking for him. It's a character and abilities thing, but also convenient for him being a side character without much to say sometimes.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes has faded into the background of not just the scene itself, but also the perceptions of the people of the SIM room. Of course, Sim Mel, being a part of the room with automated responses knows he's there on a meta concious level, but also wouldn't interact with him, as Melody herself would have forgotten he was around. This isn't to say the group was given selective amnesia about the robot, just that he had this way of disappearing into the surroundings. It was quite easy just to glance right over him and not take him for anything more than a furniture fixture in a passing glance. It wasn't even something he practiced, just an inate nothingness to his being that marked him to the mind's fast Perception as unimportant.

Meanwhile he could be standing totally imobile, considering a great many things. Who knows what could be humming through those processors. It could be some deep formula for propulsion in a vacuum environment. Perhaps he was considering whether or not water elementals themselves felt wet when in a pool of water. Maybe he was just thinking about cats. The SIM group, in addition to the multiverse at large, excluding the omniscient, had no way to know.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Tossing or holding don't really change the response.

Hermes is just being logical. When something is wrong you don't throw people against a wall. He's doing literally the text book response. Because he memorized the textbook.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Done. And not particulary. He has no passion. He's more like the butler in Mr. Deeds.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Sir, he is expressing the symptoms of a panic attack according to the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual of Mental Disorders."

He turns his head to see Mel trying to comfort him before Vickory simply lifts and tosses him.

"Ms. West, assaulting Tryko'Sam is counter productive to his current state, please step away."

He steps towards Tryko'Sam, keeping a few paces distance. "Sir, it is neccesary to transport him to the infirmary."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Keyword being or. I never picked one, but if he fits into the scene without breaking things I'll pose in now. :P

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes isn't in the SIM room scene, as I never posed him in. I feel that retconning him in wouldn't work since Sam got triggered by the mention of robots. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes has spent every waking moment (of Arthur's at least) with him, helping in his endeavors. Most of Arthur's sleeping time is spent making a new arm for himself so Arthur doesn't have to.

The frequency of his reminding Arthur that "Melody will be alright," is cut from every 15 minutes to once a day upon request.

I'm doing my best, Mels, but I'm trying to herd cats with a piece of celery here.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes continues to hold the door open to the unused Sim room.

"Sir, is everything alright?"

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

I'm fairly sure we resolved to not cross the Tryko'Sam and Rift story lines, so it may be better not to do things in the other Sim room, guys.

I'm honestly confused as to why we are do hung up on getting into Sim Room three when there are others and someone's life is on the line...

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

One of the fun things about Hermes is copy and pasting things he's said before because he's a robot.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

He has no reason to doubt her.

"This would be inappropriate. You are not my primary maintenance provider. The schematics for my hardware and operating systems are protected under Imperial patent 81539R. All rights reserved to Barren Industries LLC. In the event of Barren property being compromised, I am programmed to self destruct."

Hermes continues to hold the door to the SIM room.

"In addition to this, damaging me will not further the current object to rescue Ms. Waverider."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Sir, it is more prudent to use an open Simulation Room than to question not being able to access Simulation Room three."

Hermes gestures towards a green lit room, 4 to be precise. While doing so, though showing no unnecessary outward signs of it, something connects in his memory.

"Sir, do you have the Journal Ms. Waverider gave to you before she departed? She requested that you cared for it."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Sir, it is in your best interest to take a moment to compose yourself."

The robot addresses Arthur before turning his head towards Vickory.

"It is in interest of the current goal to desist from this conversation."

He looks back forward and after a few more steps, they turn the corner to the SIM rooms.

The recording of "Melody is going to be OK." Plays once again at the same 15 minute interval as they enter a room.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Can you guys tell me if you address Hermes? I've had a really hard week and all the talk about capitalism and Socialism is a herd of Teal Deer at to my sleep deprived brain at this point. No offense.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Thank you, Sir. I strive to serve you excellence and efficiency," is all Hermes has to say on his assertions of more value to him personally.

A few minutes pass by through their walk, approximately 15, and Hermes plays a short audio clip of Ephebe saying "Melody is going to be ok."

He lets Arthur converse on the ethics of patents unless he's called on as a witness. Better not to interrupt.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Facial Reference

Body reference Except the colors are mostly brushed steel and chrome.

He's also currently sans left arm past the bicep.

His Iron Suit is kind of like the Iron Spider suit in all black, so very thin and form fitting. It's currently on his back in a fitted black shell.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes nods to Ephebe as he follows Vickory and Arthur.

"I will monitor Sir's heart rate and blood pressure via Iron suit relay with an upper limit of *biology jargon*. I will initiate a subroutine to reminder sir that 'Melody will be ok.'"

He goes with the two, holding doors like a good robot should.

"My intended use is as a servant to the Barren family, in particular Arthur Barren. The original build specifications of my unit are filed under Imperial patent 81539R. All rights reserved to Barren Industries LLC."

Hermes responds in the manner much expected of a robot.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

I've actually had plans in place for that since before that movie came out.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes makes an attempt to catch the datapad, but he hasn't compensated for only having one arm quite yet. When he goes to catch it between his hands, he only succeeds and skillfully batting it away while gesturing towards it with his left upper-arm stump.

He looks down and back up to his hands, then back down to the datapad.

"My apologies. I will attempt to fix any damage I caused to the device."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Guys I meant more along the lines of how we're getting Mel back. ;>_>

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

If you guys want Hermes to pull a Baymax, I'm fine with that.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

If I got a new red arm, could people still recognize me?

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes stands by, idly running diagnostics on the stump where his right arm used to be. He is aware if the fact that he doesn't know enough about the subject to be of any help and doesn't intend to interupt.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes offers his arm when Arthur requests it.

"Sir, is this really the most efficient use of supplies?"

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

I'm giving this one more try, because taking people out of a scene is no fun, even if it makes sense.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Then in this case, this object is unnecessary?"

Hermes lifts the measuring tape he had intended to use to fix the suit.

Aananda:
"Now, ma'am?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.
N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes replies both to Aananda via a radio channel he knows Arthur doesn't monitor and verbally to Arthur at the same time.

Aananda:
"Sedatives are unlikely to be effective, as Sir has nanomachines in his bloodstream. Magical or electrical disruptions are more likely to work."
May not need to knock him out, if this has the affect I think it may. XD

"Sir, the factor you have overlooked is not chemical or technological. It is biological. All of your previous iterations of environment suits have been made for yourself, and of course me, as my measurements are adjustable to yours. The factor you have overlooked is human dimorphism. You have not included space for Ms. Waverider's... my reading has yielded numerous words for this... Would 'Rack' be socially appropriate?"

He indicates the flat chest of the suit's design. His positioning to indicate said places him next to the desk.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

Hermes looks from Melody, then to the suit, then back to Melody and then back to the suit. You can practically see the gears turning in his head, or rather the processing lights blinking.

"Sir, if I may interject, I believed there is a factor you may have overlooked."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"In the previous month you have recorded 10 minutes, 27 seconds of video. In the past three days you have recorded 15 minutes, 34 seconds of video.
This is a difference of five minutes and seven seconds."

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Yes, Sir."

Hermes does as told, doing the same pausing and recording thing form before as he takes up the rest of the space on the data crystal.

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

"Yes Sir."

Hermes focuses is on the schematic and there's a faint hum as he burns info to a data crystal in his chest.

When she is finished he blanks out for a moment to initialize the information.

Raelle falls directly past him to the floor. Even someone with bad reflexes could've caught her. Hermes, however, lets her fall past as he stares into space.

Right after she falls, shutters over his eyes "blink" and he straightens and looks around for a moment before looking down to Raelle at his feet.

"Why is Ms. Del Sol on the floor?"

He doesn't move to pick her up, just staring at her for a moment.

"15 minutes ago, Sir. As per disturbance protocol."

He hands Arthur a plate of the things he ranked on the higher end of his favorites that were present, but also several "healthy" choices, Hermes is required to present him with.
