Richard Scary there should take 1 point of fire damage from my elemental defense.
Grethel grunts as the thing hits her.
"You'll find I hit back," she growls, flame flaring up around her before it coalesces around her fists as she tries to pummel the scarecrow.
Activate kinetic fist, accepting 1 burn
Unarmed: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 7

Unarmed: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 2
or maybe not
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Well, that was ... unusual," Grethel observes. "Well shot, Brother Mine."
She moves forward carefully, going to inspect the scarecrow.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Should we try to get rid of it? It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but if it's trying to talk to us, it isn't making a whole bunch of sense right now," Grethel notes.
She looks around to see if there's anything else.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel takes a moment to center herself, ready to pummel whatever may be ahead.
"Let's do this," she says.
Use 1st martial flexibility to give myself Weapon Focus (unarmed) for 1 minute.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"All right. If we're set, let's go investigate the lights together," Grethel suggests.
Knowing most of them can't see all that well in the dark, she summons some small red lights as well, the heat warding off any nighttime chill.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Fair enough, brother mine. All together then, when we're ready? Vort, put on your armor."
If it's not moving and we think we have time, that is.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"No reason to leave in the middle of the night. For now, we stay here where we have some limited defense if something comes at us again. We'll move on in the morning," Grethel says.
Stay here and wait to see if someone comes at us, IMO. I see no reason to rush out into the night to follow some sort of woll-o'-wisp/trap.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
I planned to take the one minute to don my shirt.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel grunts in annoyance and acknowledgement, climbing to her feet as she prepares for the next assault.
"Nothing good comes from being in a strange house in the woods," she mutters sourly, and glances at Vort to see if he might know more about the birds.
She pulls on her chain shirt and activates her elemental defense, heat rolling off her in waves.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Well, at least we'll eat well," Grethel says, "so it's not a complete waste out here. Maybe the smell will bring the wolves in to join us."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
LOL. Well, better to figure it out now than never?
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
I agree with Hans regarding communicating.
Grethel looks around with a sniff.
"Guess it'll have to do," she says with a shrug. "Home sweet home and all of that.
"Vort, if you get the wood into the fireplace, I can get it lit."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Abandoned homes works for me," Grethel agrees. "We can ask around the other places in the morning."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
I assume we're going to end at the same point (i.e. night) regardless, so am weighing in, just in case.
Grethel frowns as the sun sinks.
"Not sure we want to be out again," she says. "Not sure the farms are any safer -- they're notoriously untrustworthy and suspicious, especially around here, sell you out to the witches just as fast as they'd blink, but tramping back and forth to town might take too much time. It's probably worth the risk, or we can try to find one no one's using. That might be where the wolves are hiding..."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
I was going to say the wolves. I think that's what we were saying above.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel follows along with the others, idly swiping as small branches and leaves as they pass, trying to keep aware of anything that might be hunting them so they don't turn -- again -- from cook to dinner. That can happen all too quickly, as she knows as well as anyone.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel, entering after she arrives, lets the others know of the guard's eventual seeming lack of interest.
"So, wolves? Any idea how to get started? They could be anywhere. Maybe there's something at the ambush site that can help, though?"
Open for suggestions.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Assuming I've arrived? Not sure if I did, or if I also lost the guard...
"I'd much rather find those damn wolves, or maybe the cult," Grethel says. "I've been in enough prisons for a lifetime."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Ah, sorry. I definitely misunderstood.
Grethel growls quietly and follows after the guard, and thus her brother and companions. She makes no particular effort to be discreet about it, though she does cast a quick glance toward Alex to make sure the Pharasmin knows what she's doing.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel grinds her teeth as she waits, finally deciding to approach the deputy.
"Chase, was it? A little breakfast to start the day? Or are you already at work and here on some other business?" she asks him.
OK, back to normal posting, I think. I'll join the others shortly.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
I don't think he was following us, but rather getting breakfast. (Not sure if you looked at the spoiler, Hans.)
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Grethel, never the most talkative at any time and certainly not in the morning, nudges her brother, jutting her chin toward the guard.
She grunts at Crissa's suggestion, glancing at Alex and nodding as she tucks into her food with far more willingness than her twin brother.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Hey guys, just FYI, work is hitting me hard right now. I've also got my folks coming to visit over the weekend -- Long story short, my posting may be spotty through the weekend (though I'm hoping I can sneak in some time tomorrow and/or Friday).
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel nods in agreement with her brother.
I'm ready to head to bed afterward if nothing else happens...
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"What my dear brother said," Grethel continues, glowering a bit at the guards. "We were attacked by one of the creatures in the woods as we transported her two sons here for imprisonment. She freed our two though we took the head off one of them during the attempt. Still, there are two more out there and they may not be inclined to leave, like they should...
"As for your current prisoners, the only help any of us might offer them is to reach Pharasma's judgment, but that's just for those who escape our more ... civilized ... punishments here. There are eight of us, and we're willing to continue fighting these monsters and bring them to justice."
I think I got that number right; if not, she says whatever the number actually is.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel sneers, her hot comments cut off by Hans'.
Still, she can't resist a harsh laugh.
"Leave our families? I'm with my family," she barks, nodding at her brother. "The rest of them left us. Tried to give us to a witch, in fact."
She pauses for a moment, to let the sheriff respond.
"And maybe you'll notice I'm not carrying any weapons?" she says as a final jab.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"What's the point? This looks like one of those who'd much rather throw the children he's supposed to be protecting to the monsters than actually take care of them," Grethel responds. [b]"I'm guessing he won't even care that there are a couple werewolves out there, and won't bother telling his villagers or doing anything to make sure they're safe. As long as he can sit safely in his little chair and let others -- like us -- deal with the problems behind his office walls."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"And I've never found newness to be a prerequisite for villagers liking each other," Grethel chimes in.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel grunts and pushes herself up from the table.
"I'll go with you, brother dear."
Leaving her own gear in their shared room, she follows Hans.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Assuming she doesn't spot anything that raises alarms...
Grethel joins Vort in the corner, keeping her own suspicious eyes on everyone else in the tavern.
"Well, that all went to hell," she says softly to the big Kellid. "They might come gunning for you after what you did."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Indeed some food," Grethel says, though she seems no less on edge than she did in the wilderness -- if anything, she may be even more tense. "We don't all have your ability to do without, brother dear."
She looks around, giving a quick inspection of everyone else in the room. You can never be too sure there isn't a witch around, after all.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel shrugs as the others discuss meeting with the sheriff.
"It's a bath for me, and then a proper rest," she says, heading toward the inn.
She leaves the others with one final admonition, however: "Remember, don't let your guard down just because we're in town. These villagers will send you to your death as quickly as any creature out there."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel smiles.
"They never come back from fire, do they, dear brother of mine?"
As they prepare to depart, she'll incinerate the remaining body.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Town it is. But once we've had a chance to rest, we feed those two to the fire," Grethel says emphatically.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"They won't know we had another wagon, will they? Not sure why we need to tell them anything, since they'll just probably blame us. If you're really worried, we can say we heard Rufus and his mother are in the area, so we came here to make sure they don't hurt anyone before we capture them. It's sort of true, even," Grethel says. "And if the peasants complain..."
He hands glows briefly with a ruddy fire before it is quickly extinguished.
And, yes, website access has sucked lately.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"If it's flames you want, dear brother, I'm happy to oblige you," Grethel offers with a smile.
Also, in case it wasn't clear, I'm also agreeing with Alexandria.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Yeah. And I hope that b&%&@ does show up. She'll make a nice pelt on the wall. ... if we had walls." Grethel says, looking around ruefully as she finishes speaking.
"Let's get settled and then we can get back here and arrange a mother and son reunion..."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Yeah, it's odd. It usually doesn't act up *this* much. Really throwing my posting off, but I guess as long as we're all aware that's a problem right now...
"I'm still feeling OK, though I wouldn't mind a little rest later. I won't let anything get close," Grethel says. I can take first watch.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Didn't everyone going out there lead to this mess here?" Grethel asks. "We could try splitting up, but is there anything still here to worry about?"
Seeing the others already going, she follows along.
"Can't you help him, 'Lexa?" she asks, gesturing toward her brother with the glowing stone in her hand.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Not much for tracking," Grethel says. "I never could find my way through the woods without leaving some sort of trail.
"And even that didn't always work," she finishes, casting a rueful glance toward her brother.
"I can give us some more light, though."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Gods damn this f*$$ing light and burn these a!@$@!! hands," Grethel's voice comes raging out of the night, a ruddy red glow preceding her. "I told you, wee've been wandering around in circles, but the blighted camp must be this way, Crissa!"
She emerges, followed by her two companions, eyes growing wide as she sees your state.
"Hans! What happened?!" she cries in alarm.
And, I'm back.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"Yeah, whatever this is isn't good," Grethel says. "We should head back."
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
You can never go wrong with fire.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel leans down and picks up a rock, concentrating on it. After a moment it lets loose a sullen red glow, heat emanating from it. using basic pyrokinesis
"I'll go with you Torgar," she says.
Though might make more sense for Llano to go, since they can both see in the dark and thus could be sneakier in their search. If he assents, Grethel will stand firm for the moment.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
"You think you curs can take us!" Grethel calls out. "Just try it! We've dealt with worse than you and lived to tell the tale."
Her skin begins to give off a faint red glow as she silently calls upon the fire in her soul. Activating elemental defense
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Huh. That's strange. I don't think I got any notifications about updates in this discussion threat (or I did and somehow missed it). Sorry for the delay; I was celebrating my birthday yesterday, but am back now...
1. I'm fine with five years with the group. I don't see us as being that old, so probably not all seven.
2. Also agree with Hans.
3. Again, I'm happy to defer to Hans here.
4. Is Crissa interested in women? If so, Grethel might have experimented (after all, if something's good enough for Hans...); it probably wouldn't have lasted very long as Grethel's not really good at relationships (they lead to you getting sold to witches to be eaten, as everyone should know).
As for Hans' question, I'm fine with everything but PvP (which could be fine for me as long as it's cleared OOC) and rape (which I don't think is ever fine with me from a PC). Other murderhobo stuff is part of the game, IMO. That said, while I wasn't offended, if anyone read Hell's Vengeance, that got to be a little too much for me and wouldn't be what I would call fun.
Also, I'm heading to PaizoCon this coming weekend, leaving Thursday afternoon and not getting back until Tuesday night. I don't expect to be posting in that time.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel perks up at the warning, looking around.
"Maybe this won't be such a boring trip back home, after all," she says with a grin as wolfish as any of Vort's.
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Are we close enough that we got that message?
F Human pyrokineticist 2 / brawler 1
Grethel watches as her brother wanders toward the other part of the camp, eyes following him closely. Nonetheless, she remains seated, assuming the prisoners are safely bound.
