With 200 settlements, I think there will be room for everybody.

This is how I think it will probably end up:

At the top of the food chain will be 2-4 big nasty kingdoms (the Steelwings.) They will have the best settlements planned down to the color of the flowers in the gardens, and will be able to take out just about anyone with minimal effort. However, they will not be able to do much to another kingdom without leaving themselves wide open to the other Steelwings. So they are stuck with raiding.

Beneath them will be the let-everybody-ins, who will not be able to challenge a Steelwing themselves, but are big enough that them + a Steelwing can easily to nasty things to another Steelwing. So they survive, not because of what they can do, but what other people will do to people who do stuff to them.

Then it's the casuals, who probably won't be bigger than a single settlement, and will only have the pvp window open during times when most of them are on (eg, 6pm to 12pm.) Again, not big enough to harm a Steelwing, but still more trouble than they are worth.

At the bottom of the chain will be the lol-ers, so survive solely because what they got isn't worth anything.

And yes, serious Barbarians should be very interested in being able to be stealthy.

How will you know which path is the optimal? I doubt people will be able to create the perfect character the first time through. Sure, the first person will have more xp than others, but others will have the benefit of have foreknowledge of how to build their character.

Hrm. Today maybe. Not in his prime. !0 of them with pool cues? Okay, sure.

I won a $100 bet when he beat Ali. Accepted a night at the bar since we were both in college and dirt poor.
Mitch 'Blood' Green tried Tyson on for size in an alley after he lost in the ring. Tyson put him in the hospital. Green is bigger than 5 random 'Fantasy and Science Fiction Society of' members

Still, having five times the attacks might help. Although if Tyson got the first punch, he would probably have a good chance, as the random guys probably don‘t have much resistance to damage. However, a better compairison for this game might be Tyson vs. 5 entry level boxers. Because most low level players will still have a few feats to throw around.

@ GrumpyMel

Well, I don‘t know if I‘m qualified to throw answers at you, but this is what I think.

1. You can‘t attack as often as you want. The stamina system restricts you to 3-4 attacks every six seconds. And that‘s probably if you use only basic attacks. Using things like power attack would probably reduce the number of attacks, while equiping two weapon might double the attacks for the same amount of button presses. Although I would like a slightly slower pacing, such as full stamina every ten seconds instead of six.

2. There will hopefully more to it than just spamming attacks till one combatant drops. There was mention somewhere of certain powerful attacks lowering your max stamina, while debuffing your target gives resistaince against similar debuffs later on. As such, you need to claculate on either to stun now and make later stuns smaller, or save your stuns for when you really need the full effect.

3. There‘s hope that by having lots of keywords on high-end tier 1 weapons and not so many on low-end tier 2 weapons will offset the boost from the die rolls.

4. I‘m not positive on what you‘re saying so I‘m not going to reply.

5. I think different keywords will really change how someone fights. You probably will barely be able to hold onto your weapon when fighting someone with a disarm keyword, whìle a trip keyword person will keep knocking you over.

Hope that helps. Or at least doesn‘t hurt.

You try to make combat fair and non-frustrating. That is not what combat is :)
Actually, I think this design will result in combat that is much more realistic because it removes the situation where a level 25 character can take on a literally infinite number of level 1 characters. Mike Tyson would probably get his butt kicked if he were swarmed by a random sample of 5 male college students.

I just got a vision of a crapload of lv 1ish characters swarming a high level character, bellowing “For the Swarm!“

However, this does mean that you will almost always have to team up to take down the harder challenges. Just because you‘re a max level whatever dosen‘t mean you can take on that goblin warcamp by yourself.

@Rah, that‘s why you get buddies. The lone bandit is probably the either dead or poor bandit. However, get a couple friends and you will be able to give the highest level players a reason to deliver and not fight. Additionally, a successful SAD means you don‘t lose any heath or use any consumables, allowing you to get more stuff before running back to town with your loot. Gotta remember that a low level character will still be able to damage you, so a few fights could leave you limping, while five SADs will leave you with the potential for more SADs, and less bounties on your head.
