"The portal's master is in the first world now, more's the damage. They should be moving back through in time to teach a morning class, in a turning or so. You might arrange yourselves to depart quickly, in case the portal is only open briefly. Meanwhile may we check on our friend?"

Gennie's diplomacy mod is +7 if you want to roll it privately. Also when/if the Grimples are leaving Gennie will try to detect evil the matron, but that's a "when the portal opens" moment in the future. I just don't want to forget.

”You cannot trust us, nor can we you. This is the way of dealings between the fey and man, and has been for generations beyond counting. You have our friend, there, prisoner, and you are here, in our home, trespassing. This is not, and cannot, be disputed. You wish to return home, then do so. You have trespassed the boundaries between worlds, and in doing so you have broken accords old beyond writing. No matter the outcome here, there is almost certainly trouble ahead. Now I must ask, will you condemn your kidnapped prisoner to death, and in so doing doom yourself immediately, or will you come with us peacefully in hopes you may depart this place? Gennie pushes into the room, doing her best to stay alert as she tries to keep the creatures away from the firewater. ”They seem to have an entire colony. I don’t suppose the seneschal or janitor gets down here much, but still. Ack, leave that alone you!”. Tai squirms inside Gennie’s hood, and Gennie swings at the nearest enemy.

Gennie wakes up, looks around the room and then tries to interpret Tai’s distress.

After some consideration, she pulls on her clothing and grabs a lantern, not as quickly as Tai would prefer.

”This is going to take me a moment Tai, but I am not going to look for trouble in my pajamas. The first rule of helping others is don’t senselessly endanger yourself. Mother...”. She stops, then continues in a subdued tone ”I always say, better prepared to help and it’s not needed then the opposite.”. So saying, she gathers an extra blanket and tucks it into her bag. ”Ok, let’s wake the boys and then we can go look.”

Gennie does just that, and shortly the party stands at the stairs?

Gennie is sound asleep, a bump under her covers, with a very cozy smaller bump on top of them. As Marz speaks, Tai’s eyes glitter in the darkness and she chitters once, softly, as if to say “Let her sleep or we will both be miserable. Go back to bed.” Then she turns and lays down again.

Washing up her gear, and then drying it at the station, she tucks it away in her pack then scruffs Tai into her pouch. ”Run time, then reading, then bed.” She nods, but Tai pokes her and pushes the parchment forward. “Ah, right. First stop, turn in the lines. Mohk, this is for you, if you want I can show you to the teacher’s offices, they’re in Old Oak?”

As she walks she tries to explain what they pass, streams and carefully maintained greenhouses, separated by stonewall and hedge. Eventually, she stops in the shade of a willow and says quietly. ”This grove was here before the academy, and the path in begins at the Dark Willow. It always smells of salt, but I don’t know why. The path to the Oak is lined with ferns, don’t step past them or you will find the creek.”.

She walks carefully, trying to explain the Oak as the path turns deeper into the gardens of the Acadamae, “It’s old. Not quite dead, not truly alive, a piece of work that was here but also somewhere else. We’d have to ask a heirophant to explain it, if any could. Some say it was an Elfhome, others a Worldtree. Whatever it was, it is not that now. Whoever conquered, preserved, or enchanted it must have been partly mad, for the place has grown to be a small labyrinthian fortress of offices and laboratories. The only saving grace is you can follow the grain to get in or out. We’re here.”. Stretching up and away to the heavens, the Oak looms before them. Where moments before an empty path continued, now suddenly a tree that should have been visible from the quad, with a stately door and a warm green glow in the lanterns that flank it, abuts the stream. Gennie places her wrist against the door, and winces a moment as it pricks her, then enters.

”Father’s father had an office here, and we came once. I’ve never seen it since, but the door opens at least.” she touches the grain at the wall, where a raised entry for Professor Elias briefly lights up, before the path grows textured and the light changes to a soft blue and moves down the hallway to a door, on the left. Shrugging, Gennie places her lines under the door, then turns to follow the grain back to the lobby. ”Done, and now the run.”

Gennie’s run is how she starts and closes the day. The evening run is loose and steady, except for a hard sprint right at the end. Finishing up, she considers the gates from the inside, enjoying the feeling of accom0lishment before walking back to the dorm.

[ooc]At the dorm, Gennie pulls out her notes and begins going over them. An hour later, when last bell rings, she tucks them away, and turns in, so she will be well rested.

So saying, Gennie stands up and after taking a last bite of her soup leaves it with Tai then heads towards a wall covered in a lush mural of ivy, trees, and now that you look closer, a small recessed hall. She turns and steps along quickly then gestures to the line, which stretches into the next room. ”There you are, and remember don’t say anything about her feathers. She is very particular, but you won’t find better food in the city if you stay on her good side. I like the fish, the only trouble is so does Tai. Oh drat. Tai!”. She smiles apologetically, then heads back towards her meal at a quick walk. Too late, Tai has already started slurping. With a sigh, she munches on the cracker.

Gennie finds a place for herself at the dining hall and sets down her soup. Taking a small plate, and a sealed jar, she sets the plate next to her on the bench, and empties Tai’s meal onto it. ”There, just as you like it”. She gives the ermine fur a scratch, and turns back to her soup and reading. ”I never did find out how they are supposed to use ice without their fingers freezing off. Maybe they have specialty gloves?”. After some time reading, the soup is gone and Tai curls back up in Gennie’s cloak. Without lifting her nose from the book, she gathers the dishes in a stack.

I don't think there's much point in Gennie rolling, she's untrained and has a good motivation to work hard at what she's doing. (She'd like to give an extra set of lines to Mohk to turn in since he walked with her to the clinic).

If you want a roll anyways, the best she could do is get guidance from Tai and that is 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 not enough.

Sometimes the undergrads stare at the fire rather than pouring the sand bucket on it.

Very end of 1It isn’t until he stomps off in a huff that Gennie even recognizes him, but she startles as she recognizes the sulking.
