Born to a noble family in Caliphas, then raised and educated in Absalom and Katheer, Gavrelu exhibits the self-assurance of an expensive and cosmpolitan upbringing. He generally feels more at home abroad, and in his early adulthood he took any excuse to stay there, seeking adventure with the Woodsedge Dissidents in Galt, and performing errands for the Pathfinder Society and the Order of the Palatine Eye in Garundi. Nevertheless, his patriotic concern, and his entanglements with the Order, have often called him back to his troubled homeland.
Gavrelu is a voracious consumer and chronicler of all that the world has to offer. Though this behavior is motivated in large part by a spirit of inquiry, it is perhaps equally motivated by a competitive spirit -- the need to know more than his friends, rivals, and dinner companions. This pettiness is a source of shame for him. It is the crux of his trouble with Ustalavic society, which he regards as backward and provincial even as he leans upon it for validation.
A large, deep-chested man, Gavrelu remains a powerful figure at the end of his prime. He is capable of considerable charm, though many are put off by his unmistakable vanity. He has little ability to resist temptation, which he sometimes regards as a failing.
Gavrelu's travels have made him an expert on the history and cultures of the Inner Sea region, and he is sometimes called upon to lecture in Ustalav and elsewhere. A good number of these lectures were delivered to the Order of the Palatine Eye, of which he was once a member -- though he generally regards them as woolly-headed fools, he found the social benefits irresistible. He is now rather late on his dues, however.
