Hello,

EDIT: WAIT ! Just saw your Alias. I've got your package actually. But I am not Louis-Philippe Saint Armand and do not live in Quebec. So I guess someone else has my shipment and you got one from yet another customer. I wonder how far the chain goes.

LOL. at least I know who has it :)

Cheers

Why is it unaivalable now ? I would understand a physical product, but a .pdf ??

Well the clear bases may have some merit if you display the minis in a glass displays case : less plastic to block the light

So why not

Honestly I hope it gets better than +2 lvl / year, because otherwise you may be stuck and prevented from playing your favourite character for too long for most players I know.

I think in PFS 1 it was more along +4 lvls : year ? Anyways, I would compromise for three.

Some people do not have the same commitment as long time players, or else have life issues causing them to stop gaming on the way, so +2 lvls / year seems a problem, IMHO.

So we played the first cinematic scenario recently, which will be included in the Soon to be released Starter set.

It went rather well. I had advised my players to see again the movies, and one of them even bailed out at the last moment because of this.

The Rules system is okay, and fitting well with the genre. It has some subtleties that are not apparently evident (Pulse rifle fire / Flamethrower exact effects) that need researching, but otherwise, it really fits the bill.

For the scenario "Chariot of the Gods" : basically you are royally (CENSORED) but maybe if you stick together, you might survive.totally true to the films.

I look forward to the next one, just out in .pdf, and I should receive it sometimes soon.

I am slowly discovering 2e through play examples (no time to read the rules), and I really like it so far.

There is again a sensation of discovering something new while actually being in danger. Good stuff all around.

The D20 dice is the master of all things. If you got poor rolls, with bounded accuracy, you will be in a lot of pain. You can't maximize enough to protect you from bad rolls.

Oh boy is that the truth. 4 sessions in and all the players have been having a streak of bad luck, while the GM has been rolling hot. (Last night, nobody rolled above a 5 for at least an hour, while the GM rolled 3 critical attacks in a row.)

It was so demoralizing we had to stop the session halfway through.

Well YMMV, but I think this is a good step, as recently the dice roll where only for show hidden behind a ridiculous amount of modifiers, to the point they hardly mattered.

There might be again challenge and danger in the game.

Well I have some items in my cart.

And ... they show as being already bought in 2013. Even though I do not have them and they were not published yet back then.

I had not read about this earlier as I do not follow the playtest, but the basic idea sounds really good. I hope it gets implemented, even if it needs tweaking.

I think the great way to market pathfinder, would be to market it not for its rules by themselves, but as the fantasy game engine that allows any kind of fantasy world to exist, and the limitless possibilities.

people don't like rules, and they like even less big rulesbook. But they do want Adventure.

I think it is an extremely good thing to curb down the mathematical creep of the endless bonuses.

Way less calculation and more realist goals. YAY !

A +1 weapon is now a far bigger deal than in the past, since it doesn't do just +1 damage but gets an extra die of dammage. A +2 weapon gets two extra dice. That's huge! A +1 two-handed weapon of any stripe will do wads of damage with every hit, even without a critical.

I'm sure many of the special weapon properties will still exist, and they will be further icing on the magic cake.

And I am hoping the power of the monsters scales as well, because otherwise, the already way too easy combats will be even less challenging.

My vision is that low levels should be somewhat believable while as levels go up restrictions should be lifted to showcase your rise to fame and power.

Otherwise, you just cheapen the wonder of magic and heroism.

How about finding a group that is not about PvP ?
Frankly, I would not tolerate today anyone whose character is about finding excuses to fight and murder my PC.

There are also a few level 10+ Pharasmin Clerics in Osirion who should probably do something about all that. If there were stats for any prominent Gray Gardeners, I would tell you how impossibly easy it should be for the Pharasmins to float across the Inner Sea and stomp those cheese-eating surrender-monkeys.

Surrender monkeys was 20th century. Not revolutionary time.

Running your own games is better, but then comes the issue of telling your players that no you are banning this and that option, and your friends start complaining about unfair, unfair ...

And even if you announce a list in advance, there is a real possibility to forget a lot of things.

The problem with 15 minutes adventure day is bad adventure design, and powermunching players exploiting it.

Want to avoid that ?

Write the adventure with victory conditions for the villain which means the PCs need to act now, or lose.

It can be :
- Need to act now, or villain gains unlimited reinforcements
- Need to act now, or villain escapes
- Need to act now, or villain slays target, and everything else is pretty irrelevant

Would it be logical IRL for the party to rest and nothing happens after their 15 minutes ? No ? Then don't have it in game.

Also, if the party stays immobile to rest, then they become targets to be ambushed. Stay out also of the boring and predictable three encounters a day. Send as many encounters as needed to make them squeal ... if that is logical with the situation.

If you have some other response, by all means let me know. But just saying "No. I choose fire. Player autonomy" doesn't cut it. And other ideas will likely have whatever logical consequences they actually would have too.

Fire hurts things more reliably than, say, holy water in the real world. It stands within reason someone would try with fire, before trying anything else.

Also, you don't have that many options in the core rulebook, without digging up weird manuals.

Pixie, the Leng Queen wrote:

"Well it worked on the small guys, lets see if it works on this big guy" is a completely reasonable move without requiring any further knowledge rolls.

Kinda like "Well I know that little red dragon shoots fire. If I had to put my money on it, the Big one probably shoots fire too" is completely reasonable. Now granted you would need a proper knowledge roll to also know that the Big guy is also a nasty spell caster and such, but using basic reasoning of a smaller guy and guessing its advanced or adult stages has similair abilities isnt unreasonable.... Especially if you hve already encountered said minor/younger versions

Agreed, but even without that, there is nothing wrong with throwing an alchemist fire on a troll even if you failed the roll. Trial and error.

If you have one available, and your normal attacks don't work as well as they should, why would you not try another method ?

And if someone finds this is meta gaming, then throw another kind of troll vulnerable to something else once in a while.

Has anyone gone through a period of time where there interest in running games is near zero. Every time I start a campaign either here on the boards or in real life its like pulling teeth to get my self interested in running it. I find my self wanting to do anything else but sit at the gaming table during sessions. I'm starting up a new group and I'm hoping a change of players will help...

Any advice?

I am currently recovering from one myself. You have all my sympathies.

My best advice is tell the players that you need a long break from DMing, and ask them to DM you instead. Also, get some rest, and try other activities.Tell them, it's not them, it's you. And also, this is temporary.

It's been some six months since I stopped, and I am feeling infinitely better.

I do. I have a huge collection of everything D&D / Pathfinder.
The best point is the huge library of adventures and monsters this gives me.

The drawbacks are the budget, and also the storage space. It takes a lot of place in my flat.

Some people have a very, very, narrow view of how RPGs and PFRPG work, can work, could work, and are actively hostile to any ideas that other solutions exist.

They are campaigning very, very hard to make sure that everybody conforms to their own rigid molds.

Shame on them.
