Time to get talking about PCs and the game in general.

male

Guys,

I just set this up so we can discuss 5e mechanics for both of my games in one forum (i.e., players from both games despite the fact that three player play in both games).

Topic at hand:

Is 5e too deadly? I am having a hard time designing combat that will challenge 5 PCs without making it deadly for one PC.

Current combat in Ironfang is a CR3 and a CR1 creature for a group of 5 level 2 PCs. It is classified as 'deadly'. Is that too much?

Past combat in WotR was a CR 4 creature for a group of 5 lvl 3 PCs. It is classified as 'medium' yet was almost too deadly.

Thoughts?

Welcome all, let's get ready to write an awesome cooperative story!

I am actually ready to send out Turn 000 tonight (and I may do that) but let's take some time to finalize if the PCs know each other and what their tie to the Crusades and/or Kenabres (Mendev) is.

The campaign proper starts during Armasse!

Traditionally an opportunity for scholars and priests to come together to study the lessons of history from wars past, since Aroden’s death, this holy day has become more about training commoners in weaponry, choosing squires, and ordaining new priests. Over time, Armasse has grown to encompass jousting competitions, mock duels, battle reenactments, and other festival events.

I'll want your PCs stats on your profile in an 'orderly' manner so I can check them and retrieve them as necessary. I don't have any preferred style as long as it's 'neat and orderly'.

Questions?

Game on!

For more than a hundred years, the demon-infested Worldwound has warred against humanity, its Abyssal armies clashing with crusaders, barbarians, mercenaries, and heroes along the border of lost Sarkoris.

But when one of the magical wardstones that helps hedge the demons into their savage realm is sabotaged, the crusader city of Kenabres is attacked and devastated by the demonic hordes. Can a small band of heroes destined for greatness survive long enough to hold back the forces of chaos and evil until help arrives, or will they become the latest in a long line of victims slaughtered by Deskari, the demon lord of the Locust Host?

I am looking for five PCs to star in the Wrath of the Righteous AP. The game will be run using D&D 5e Rules.

The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most.

Game format:

General
Players and GM post on the Discussion tab leaving the Gameplay tab for the archive of the turn recaps where all the information such as OOC information, maps, pictures, health status, etc. is put in a chapter-like post.

Game and turns
The game will be run this way: I will post a turn recap on the Discussion tab (and Gameplay tab for archive purposes) and you will all respond to it on the Discussion tab. I expect you all to write at least one to two paragraphs per turn recap, which I aim to post every day.

I will then post a turn recap with all your responses incorporated and will describe the results, add something to it setting up a new situation where your input is needed, and then wait for your responses again on the Discussion tab. These are for turn recaps; however, I check the boards a few times per day and questions or small comments/actions will be posted promptly on the Discussion tab.

Posting
I expect the vast part of your responses in character; if it is not then please add OOC in front of any comment, question, etc. (or you may use the ‘ooc comment’ format.)

I strongly encourage you to involve other PCs and NPCs in your posts by ‘tagging’ them (asking them questions, requesting them to do something, etc.); this gets the ‘roleplaying juices’ flowing and makes for a much better game.
Actions 1?, Actions 2?, WHAT?

The turn recap format allows for the roleplaying of different scenes at the same time; I’ll denote this by breaking up the turn recap with ‘Actions 1?’, ‘Actions 2?’, etc. where PC input is desired or required. This playing more than one scene at a time can be done as long as the results of Actions 1? do not affect (or significantly affect) the setup of Actions 2?. For example, the PCs may be discussing what to cook for dinner in ‘Actions 1?’ while also traveling the next day under ‘Actions 2?’.

Please see this page for a sample of the game format. There you may see what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc.
If you have any questions on the game format, please do not hesitate to ask.

-----------------
Character selection will NOT be first come first serve, and we will take time to develop characters. The game will have action as well as problem solving so a good mix of characters is recommended.

I am looking for "roleplayers" whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to post AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY so if you can't meet that schedule please do not bother applying to the game.

If this sounds like a game for you, then please post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, and c) personality. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: 27-point buy and 1st level. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’. I want players firmly engaged in the AP so please read the Paizo Player’s Guide.

I will accept PC submittals until Saturday May 23, 2020. However, I may end recruitment earlier if I have a good batch of submittals from which to select PCs from. In any case, I will give a 48-hour notice should this occur.

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

Game on!

Welcome all, let's get ready to write a cooperative story.

I am actually ready to send out Turn 000 tonight (and I may do that) but let's take some time to finalize if the PCs know each other and what their tie to Phaendar is.

Please know that there's a seasonal festival happening in Phaendar so PCs not native to the town could be visiting to strike a business deal or just blow off some steam.

I'll want your PCs stats on your profile in an 'orderly' manner so I can check them and retrieve them as necessary. I don't have any preferred style as long as it's 'neat and orderly'.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In the war-torn nation of Nirmathas, far from the battlefront, the sleepy little town of Phaendar is rocked by the sudden appearance of an overwhelming foe! The heroes must flee their homes, saving whatever friends and supplies they can, as the monstrous Ironfang Legion and their insidious General Azaersi begin carving out an empire of monsters from the dregs of Nirmathas and Molthune alike. The heroes must guard their band of survivors in the wilderness, challenge a troglodyte tribe for safe haven, and face the brutal bounty hunters dispatched to end their flight to freedom!

I am looking for three to five PCs to star in the Ironfang Invasion AP. The game will be run using D&D 5e Rules.

The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most.

Crown of Shadow:

No one race or culture has the might to stand against Izrador and his foul legates. The dwarves are valiant, but caged in their mountains. The elves are skilled, but have neither the numbers nor the resources to fight off the orc hordes forever. Yet there are some few who would join their knowledge and skills, the better to fight the Shadow that has fallen over both peoples.

And those few are hunted.

Crown of Shadow is a desperate quest across Eredane, ranging from the depths of the Kaldrun Mountains, across the grim expanse of the occupied plains of Erenland, through the secretive underground of the Eren River, and finally into the heart of the Whispering Wood itself. The players, inexperienced rebels in the fight against Izrador and the Night Kings, become the unintended recipients of a valuable prize, the unwilling charges of a deadly quest. The forces of the Shadow have uncovered a prize of their own, however, and have given it to one of their most devious champions. The party must elude this tireless pursuer and reach sanctuary a continent away, lest they fall prey to the Crown of Shadow.

Hello Midnight fans!

I am looking for four to six PCs to star in a game set in the world of Midnight.

Midnight is an old setting made for Dungeons & Dragon v 3.5 rule set 3.5 SRD, and you WILL need the 2nd Edition Midnight Setting book because it modifies the rules to make them fit the setting. PC races are stronger, there are heroic paths, and there is an overhaul of the magic system, among other things. The game will be run using 3.5 Rules with some modifications brought about by Pathfinder Version 1 (like the consolidation of the skill system).

Midnight - A World in Shadow:

In the ageless time before the dawn of history, there was a war in heaven. In desperation, the lords of light severed the black spirit of the dark god Izrador, casting him out of the celestial kingdom.

The gods succeeded in vanquishing their brother, but Izrador corrupted their magic and turned their victory against them. As the fallen god’s spirit was severed from his physical form, so too was the celestial kingdom severed from all contact with the material realm. The lords of light discovered that they could no longer commune with their mortal children. This cataclysm shook the foundations of the world and came to be known as the Sundering.

The dark one fell to the earth, his foul essence staining the land with its evil shadow. Weakened and bodiless, Izrador retreated to the ice and cold of the far north. There he slumbered, slowly recovering his strength and dreaming of vengeance across eons of time. Empires were built and crumbled to dust, races were born and died, and the Shadow in the North grew deeper and darker.
Three times the dark god rose and threatened the nations of Aryth with iron and fire. The first time he was defeated by a proud host of elves, dwarves, and Dornish men led by Aradil the Witch Queen. The second time, races of good held the Shadow off long enough for aid to come from an unlooked-for ally. By the time of his third rising, the free peoples of Eredane were battered, bitter, and distracted by their own infighting as well by the insidious corruption sown by the dark god’s spies over the years. Four of the land’s greatest heroes fell prey to his dark promises and betrayed their people, leading his hordes from the north.

This time, the dark god won.

The dwarven clans were broken and retreated to their holdfasts deep within the earth. The elves withdrew into their vast and ancient forest, abandoning all to the Shadow. The Dorns, tamed by a power from across the sea in the Second Age, were betrayed from within and fell swiftly.

One hundred years have passed since the Shadow fell. The elder races—those of good heart and fey ancestry who have battled Izrador for millennia—are being systematically hunted down and exterminated. The great forest of Erethor has become an island of light in a darkening world, its elven keepers fighting a never-ending battle against besieging hordes of orcs, giants, and goblinoids. The surviving dwarven clans have locked themselves in their mountain holdfasts, and the streets of once-proud subterranean cities have become meat grinders for the orcs who are sent in to root them out.

The lands of men are ruled with an iron fist by the minions of the Shadow. Cities lie in ruins, and the commoners in isolated towns lock the gates against the darkness each night. Literacy, magic, and weapons are illegal, and ignorance spreads across the land like a terrible plague.

----------

Heroes of Midnight:

In the world of MIDNIGHT, evil rules and the last, brave heroes strive against unbeatable odds. The lands of men have been crushed under the iron heels of the Night Kings and their minions and the lands of the fey are besieged on all sides by the dark hordes of the Shadow in the North. Those who would resist the dominion of the dark god must often do so from the shadows, fighting a secret war that most people believe was lost a hundred years ago.

The heroes of MIDNIGHT stand against orcish hordes with snow elf warriors in the frozen woods of northern Erethor. They travel the barren lands of the Dorns and fight a guerilla war in the shadow of the broken Fortress Wall. They join with gnome smugglers to carry food and medicines to the besieged dwarven clans of the Kaladruns. They ride with Sarcosan outlaws and halfling nomads on the open plains of central Erenland. They elude scheming legates and their magic-sniffing spirit servitors as they search for the priceless artifacts of a lost age. These heroes fight to defend isolated towns from the ravages of fell beasts and undead—the same towns that shun them as troublemakers and glory-seekers. In the world of MIDNIGHT, the rewards of heroism are not fortune and fame. In this age of shadow, your hero fights only to guard the last lights in a darkening world and to preserve the glimmer of hope that the long night will pass.

This is the legacy the heroes of MIDNIGHT have inherited and the world they must survive. As the Shadow falls across the world, they are the few brave and defiant souls who dare to oppose the tyranny of the Night Kings. They struggle to stem the tide of darkness and restore hope to a despairing world. Pursued by the Night Kings’ foul minions and the secretive legates of the Order of Shadow, these heroes will never receive parades and victory feasts as the reward for their noble efforts. Their greatest foes are often the suspicion, resentment, and fear of the very people they strive to champion and protect.

I will be running Crown of Shadow so that limits your PC's race to 'non-elf'. The options are a) humans, halflings, gnomes, or river dwarrow who are accompanying a gnome named Wendell who is escorting a trio of 'important resistance fighters' to the Kaladrun Mountains (these PCs start around Swift Water) or b) humans, dwarrow, dworg, or dwarf from a local Kurgun Dwarven village in the Kaladrun Mountains.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: Midnight races and classes, 1st level characters (maybe 2nd level; I haven’t decided yet), 20 point buy system for abilities (nothing lower than 10 or higher than 16 before modifiers), no evil characters although it is a grim and gritty setting…, average gold, maximum hit points at 1st level (half+1 for 2nd level an above). However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

Just setting up the discussion thread...

In Eberron, there are terrors older than the nations of men.

In the depths of the Eldeen Reaches, a chance rescue brings a group of seasoned adventurers together. But this time, the enemy waiting for them is far more sinister than any they've faced before.

In the dark places of the Shadow Marches, the secrets of the Dragon Below are better left undisturbed…

Campaign:

I will be running a homebrew game ‘loosely’ based on the Dragon Below Series by Don Bassingthwaite. I will tailor the campaign to the PCs so we are not following a script. However, I do need the set up to ‘more-or-less’ similar.

On that vein, I need the following with regards to PCs:

PC1: needs to be a kalashtar; this PC will be an escapee from the Shadow Marches.

PC2: needs to be tied to the Gatekeeper druidic tradition; could be druid, ranger, or barbarian; and could be orc, half-orc, or human. This PC will be ‘living’ in a village in the Eldeen Reaches.

Other three PCs: no real requirements although the game will touch on the ancient Dhakaani Empire and their fight against the creatures from Xoriat so a goblinoid PC is very suitable (i.e., hobgoblin dirge speaker from the Kech Volaar or hobgoblin martial-type from the Heirs of Dhakaan). These other three PCs will be visiting their ‘friend’ (PC2) in the Eldeen Reaches (or we’ll find another suitable plot hook to get them all there when the escapee (PC1) comes to town).

Thinking of GMing this...

Question: what is the starting level for this adventure path (i.e., To Worlds Unknown)?

The AP book says it is 1st level but the player's guide says it is 2nd level unless the optional adventure the Assimilation Strain is played, which I don't have.

Anybody know?

Have people taken a look how 'well balanced' this AP is with regards to encounters and treasure. I'm assuming it's fine but I would to hear if anyone has taken a closer look at it.

For example, assuming that I am somewhere in the Pact Worlds and want to travel to the Veskarium (Near Space) and I am traveling in a starship with a Drift Engine rating of 1.

Is the travel time 3d6 days (roll each time) or is the travel time something fixed (say 10) and that is the time ALL ships traveling from the Pact Worlds to the Veskarium take?

If the first then a smaller starship (Drift Engine 1) could potentially reach the Veskarium faster than a larger on (Drift Engine 2), depending on the dice roll, of course.

Also, is there anyplace where you would have to make two or more 'Drift jumps' to reach or is every 'planet' reachable with just one Drift jump with the length of this jump depending on its location?

I want to tell the WotR story but have shied away for now because I am not crazy about high-level play in Pathfinder (especially with mythic rules). However, with the advent of Starfinder, a new option opens up that promises to make high-level play a lot more enjoyable (easier) so I want to give this a try.

Being a ‘lazy’ GM, I want to use as much of the original AP as possible but it still needs to occur in the ‘future’. However, given the existence of Iomedae and the Knights of Golarion and some of the pics in the Core Rule Book like the crusader chaplain in page 90, the spell soldier in page 117, the Iomedaen knight in page 478, and the ‘paladin’ in page 502, this doesn’t seem out of the question. The fact that ‘demonic incursions’ is mentioned in the CRB makes this even more plausible.

So… I want to stay as faithful as possible to the original AP (to minimize the work; I told you I was lazy) but there’s still plenty of work to be done. I’d like to bounce (steal?) ideas off you guys for Luna Sanctus.

Location: it can’t be in the Pact Worlds, otherwise you would have everyone respond to this demonic incursion. I am thinking of a small moon that is pretty much under the radar of everyone because it is not particularly desirable for colonization. It allows for humanoid existence but is relatively small and/or difficult to reach. The reason why people are there is because the moon is the location of a ‘holy something’. This ‘holy something’ is either an ancient temple dedicated to Iomedae or the location of something very significant to the faith. Not sure yet.

This moon does not have to be very big because the AP mainly takes place in Mendev and the Worldwound; the rest of the AP takes place in the Abyss so no issues there.

Timeline: The AP starts in 4713 and the First Crusade started in 4622 so that ‘history can be kept’ (important for all the motivations of the different factions/NPCs) by simply converting 4713 into 317 AG and off we go. No problem.

Converting monsters/NPCs: this shouldn’t be a big deal once the Alien Archive is out. It should only be a matter of selecting the CR of the original encounter relative to the PC’s level (see below) and quickly designing the appropriate challenge in SF rules. Of course, the original intent of the encounter will have to be maintained. I’ll split up the PC levels in the AP so that the PCs reach 20th level somewhere in the 6th book (maybe 4 levels for the first 4 AP books and 2 levels each for the last 2 AP books). I don’t track experience and just bump the PCs when ‘it makes sense’ so the only concern here is making sure the PCs have the ‘right equipment’ and the encounters are ‘challenging’.

Replacing magic with technology/magic also shouldn’t be a big problem. This is science fantasy after all and all the trappings are there.

Thoughts? What am I missing here? Any red flags or things I haven’t considered?

Thanks for any input!

Game on!

I understand that the Unchained rules will be used for diseases and poisons. These rules are a lot 'tougher' than the current PF rules.

For example:

Regular PF: fail fortitude save DC 17 for large scorpion venom four times and you lost from 4 to 8 points of strength

Starfinder: fail fortitude save DC 17 for large scorpion venom four times and you are Immobile (A character rendered immobile by Strength poison cannot move her body at all. She is helpless and can take only purely mental actions.)

If you fail your save vs a poison that 'attacks' CON just three times then it's even worse because you become Disabled (A character disabled by Constitution poison gains the disabled condition. If she takes a standard action, her hit points drop by 1 or to –1, whichever is worse.)

Something similar happens with diseases.

How will PCs cope with this?

Don't get me wrong, making poisons and diseases this much more serious (or deadly) is a step in the right direction but I'm just trying to see how it will be handled by PCs.

Is it too early to start discussing the upcoming campaign?

Here is where the turns will be posted.

Feel free to 'post and delete' so the campaign shows up in your personal page.

male

Please dot an delete.

All communication goes in the Discussion Thread; only turn recaps posted by me go here.

Hey Eberron fans,

I recently started a classic Eberron game with Pathfinder rules. I have four players but I find that five players are usually better so…

I’m looking for a 5th player to join our game.

However, be aware that the recruitment threads for my games don’t usually get a lot of responses and this being set in a ‘dead world’ may even get less responses.

I think the reason is because my games require true player commitment. I GM the games at a fairly fast pace and ask that players post AT LEAST once per day. More posting is always better. I also like the posts to be well developed and either move the story forward or engage PCs or NPCs in roleplaying, hopefully both.

I also use turn recaps where I post all the players’ IC posts and then add one or more situations for PCs to roleplay. The turn recaps also has OOC information, pics, maps, PC and NPC status, etc.

Before posting your interest here, please take some time to look at the game in progress and make sure that this game is something you would enjoy and would like to participate.

If this hasn’t scared you, then please post the fluff (appearance, background, and personality) for your proposed character.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: Eberron races, 2nd level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average gold, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, two regular traits, and we are using background skills. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

Game on!

Just setting up the discussion thread

Pridon's Hearth is Sargava’s newest colony, pushing the country’s borders further south than ever before and attracting treasure-hunters, fortune-seekers, and troubled souls hoping for a fresh start. But unnaturally powerful storms rock the tiny settlement just as the local lizardfolk tribe declares war on the colonists within. Are these threats somehow related? What became of the heretical cult of Gozreh that journeyed to the region a century ago, and do its corrupt teachings hold the key to calming the growing hurricane? Can the heroes protect the growing community from raging tempests and hostile monsters alike? And what role does the shadowy Aspis Consortium play in these recent dangers? These challenges and more await heroes willing to face down the Ire of the Storm!

I am looking for five characters to star in a PBP (Play By Post) version of Pathfinder’s Ire of the Storm Adventure Module. Two spots have already been filled by a gunslinger and a 'martial-type' so only three more PCs will be selected.

The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most.

Game format:

Players and GM post on the Discussion tab leaving the Gameplay tab for the turn recaps where all the information is put in a chapter-like post with additional information such as OOC information, maps, pictures, health status, etc.

Game and turns
The game will be run this way: I will post a turn on the Gameplay thread and you will all respond to it on the Discussion thread. I expect you all to write at least one to two paragraphs per turn. I will then post a turn recap on the Gameplay thread with all your responses incorporated and will describe the results, add something to it setting up a new situation where your input is needed, and then wait for your responses again on the Discussion thread. These are for turn recaps; however I check the boards several times per day and questions or small comments will be issued daily.

This turn recap will also have OOC information such as health status, ongoing effects, maps, and general information to help you in your responses.

I expect a post from everyone EVERY day.

Turn replies
I expect the vast part of your responses in character; if it is not then please add OOC in front of any comment, question, etc. (or you may use the ‘ooc comment’ format .)

There are two types of turns: regular and combat. It is strongly encouraged to involve other PCs and NPCs in your responses to regular turns (sometimes even combat turns) by ‘tagging’ them (asking them questions, requesting them to do something, etc.); this gets the ‘roleplaying juices’ flowing and makes for a much better game.

General play
I expect you all to be mature and play in character as much as possible. For example, if I describe an NPC that is part of an organization and your character has no way of knowing that, then I do not want you, the player, to fill in for the character and use that knowledge. We, as players, know a lot of things that our characters do not, so please keep that in mind. For example, when I describe an action that a character does alone without being seen by the other characters, we will all know about it and enjoy it (hopefully) but I don't want your characters to take any actions based on that knowledge.

I’ve hosted and played in lots of PBPs but I want to adapt to what you all like, so things may change. I strongly encourage you to ask questions, send comments, and suggestions. I need to know what you like and what you don't like so we may adjust accordingly.
-------------------------

Please see this page (game in progress) for game format; the turn recaps there show what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, and c) personality. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game. See the page above if you would like to see a sample character as a reference on the type of submission I'm looking for.

I've provided some information in the Campaign Tab regarding the forthcoming campaign. Once players are selected, we will work on a common background to determine if/how the PCs know each other or if they are just meeting for the first time in the Kavaa Cutter.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: core races, anything Paizo, 1st level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average gold, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, two regular traits, and we are using background skills. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

We can start posting ideas about PCs and connections here.

The Kaava Cutter, a naval vessel that regularly runs cargo and passengers between Eleder and Port Freedom, makes monthly stops in Pridon’s Hearth and serves as transport for the PCs.

The adventure proper starts once you arrive at the colony from the Kaava Cutter, which was boarded in Eleder, Sargava.

It's better if you are new to the area so no locals but you may have local ties, a relative, friend, and/or business associate may already be at the colony.

The land of Seshar is a dry desert crisscrossed with artificial waterways created in days long past. The village of Redstone lies upon one of these waterways, flourishing due to its brisk trade in stone quarried nearby and its extremely capable clave of three Aeon Priests.

But something went wrong.

You were hired by Deymish to accompany him to deliver medicines ordered by the Aeon Priests. You are traveling on his boat, an 18-foot (5.5 m) wooden trow with a synth sail that—even fully loaded—glides along the waterways seemingly effortlessly.

Greeting fellow roleplayers,

I am looking for four to five player character to star in a PBP (Play By Post) to be played with Numenera Rules in the Ninth World. The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most. Please see this page (game in progress) for game format; the turn recaps in the gameplay thread show what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Full disclosure: I have never played nor run Numenera so I will make mistakes as we play along. But it is my full intent to tell a great story and have lots of fun as well. Also, I am hoping to turn this game into some sort of long-term campaign, but I am not sure how to yet since all Numenera has are some ‘disjointed’ adventures. I will evaluate how things have gone after this first adventure, which I fully intend to complete, and see where we go from there.

The pace will be about a minimum of four to five turn recaps per week, and I will do all the ‘passive’ dice rolling (in the interest of speed, I’ll roll things like defense actions, initiatives, etc.). I am looking for "roleplayers" whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to post at least once EVERY day (more is better) so if you can't meet that schedule, please do not bother applying to the game. Numenera really lends itself well for good, descriptive, storytelling so that’s what I am going for.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, c) personality, d) portrait or picture, and e) crunch. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game. I don’t think there will be much competition for character spots given the rules, world, and my particular style of PBP. However, I want well developed PCs with regards to appearance, background (we’ll work on PC connections once players are selected), and personality. Crunch should be drawn only from official Numenera products (I don’t have The Strange or the Cypher System books). I will roll for your cyphers, oddities, etc. You may use the character here to format your fluff (not yet developed in sample) and crunch.

I want to start soon so I'll accept applications until Saturday March 12, 2016 6:00 pm EST and select a PC shortly thereafter (same night). We will start the next day.

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

HOUSE RULES:

PBPs are a different breed of animal than face-to-face gaming so some adjustments need to be made to keep the game moving and fun for everyone (including the GM :)). Below are some house rules that I will implement with the above in mind specifically for Numenera games.

DEFENSE and INITIATIVE ROLLS: I will make all these rolls. If you want me to include effort on these rolls, I will have to know ahead of time. I will automatically use effort for those PCs that have it for free (i.e., those that have the pertinent edge).

ACTIONS: If effort will be used for an action, you let me know and I will roll for you. It’s too tempting to cheat in this system where you can see the rolls ahead of time and decide whether adding effort would be worth it or not. In any case, the turn recap style of this PBP lends itself for the GM to roll all the dice (i.e., you can just describe your action and intended result, which I will use in the turn recap if the action succeeds). If you don’t apply effort, you may just roll yourself and describe the results since I will tell you ahead of time the level of the task/opponent/etc.

EXPERIENCE POINTS: I will not be handing out XPs for intrusions. I will use my free intrusions (if you roll a 1 on a d20). If I use any intrusions at other times, it will be to promote roleplaying and not kill off a PC (I’m not into that :)). Therefore, you will not have XPs to give to me for special benefits (immediate, short, log, etc). We will level up when it makes sense for the PCs to do so story-wise; we will probably ‘level up’ twice per tier (i.e., from tier 1 to tier 1.5 to tier 2) in order to distribute the four benefits obtained by going up a tier.

OTHERS: I don’t know yet. There may be other house rules implemented or the above rules changed. We’ll have to see how it goes but any and all rules will be with the intent of crafting a better story for everyone.

Yet another Iron Gods game starting. When it rains,it pours. :)

I am looking for one more character to star in a PBP (Play By Post) version of Pathfinder’s Iron Gods Adventure Path. The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most. Please see this page (game in progress) for game format; the turn recaps there show what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Four players have already been invited; they are working on the following PCs:

- android shaman/speaker of the past (maybe a dip in oracle);
- Kellid Aberrant Bloodrager (Primalist);
- metal elementalist wizard; and
- summoner with a 'robot' eidolon.

Character selection will NOT be first come first serve, and we will take time to develop characters. The game will have action as well as problem solving so a good mix of characters is recommended.

The pace will be about a minimum of two to three turn recaps per week, and I will do all the ‘passive’ dice rolling (in the interest of speed, I’ll roll things like saving throws, perception checks, etc.). I am looking for "roleplayers" whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to post at least once EVERY day (more is better) so if you can't meet that schedule please do not bother applying to the game.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, c) personality, and d) portrait or picture. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game. See the page above if you would like to see a sample character as a reference on the type of submission I'm looking for.

Please read the free Player’s Guide and include in your recent history why your PC is in Torch. Once players are selected, we will work on a common background to determine if/how the PCs know each other (and may have even worked together in the past) or if they are just getting together now for the 'job/exploration'. Please note that PCs will start at 2nd level so it makes sense to have some sort of shared ‘adventuring’ background.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: core races + androids only, anything Paizo, 2nd level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average wealth for 2nd level, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, one regular trait and one campaign trait. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

I want to start soon so I'll accept applications until Sunday January 31, 2016 6:00 pm EST and select a PC shortly thereafter (same night).

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

Let's start discussing PC concepts, relationships, etc.

How difficult would it be to 'reskin everything' in Iron Gods and completely remove the magic element from it?

Numeria would still have its history more or less the same. it would still a 'medieval style' land with ancient tech.

So I don't want to remove any classes; should I?

There would still be a wizard but his 'magic' would come from his interactions with 'latent nanite fields'.

Magical items become tech items; what about divine magic?

Thoughts?

How long until someone figures out that there's a 'need' for a decent post-apocalyptic setting?

With the Iron Gods 'rules', most of the rules are here. Somone just needs to 'cherry pick' which rules/classes/weapons/etc. to use.

We just need a good setting; you know:
- science fantasy
- mutants
- ancient technology
- cybernetics
- crazy robots
- survival, exploration, colonization themes

Is there anything like that out there that I may have missed for Pathfinder?

As the title suggests and given the issues that the PBP community has over players and GMs folding over too quickly after the game starts (or just plain disappear), is there any merit in making some sort of system that can grade both players and GMs?

I'm thinking something like 'Amazon comments/reviews' (similar to the way people grade products on this website) on a certain products.

Would this be too cumbersome?

Only asking for trouble and flame wars (why did you grade me a 1?)?

Thoughts?

All-out war has erupted on the long-contested border between the crusader nation of Mendev and the demon-infested Worldwound. With the magical defenses that once held the demons at bay failing, defense of the region now falls to small patrols of mobile specialists to resupply, reinforce, and communicate between the border's many fortresses and outposts. These small groups are paramount to both protect the border and to prevent the onrushing tide of demonic attackers from plunging the entire Inner Sea region into chaos.

This is their story...

I am looking for one or two characters to star in a PBP (Play By Post) homebrew campaign. The game 'just started' but a player has dropped out leaving us with only three players. We've put the game on hold until we recruit one or two more players. The current players are: human female bloodrager, half-orc male unchained rogue, and human male arcanist (black blade).

The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most. I am currently running a Hell's Rebels game in this manner. Please see this game for game format; the turn recaps there show what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Character selection will NOT be first come first serve, and we will take time to develop characters. The game will have action as well as problem solving so a good mix of characters is recommended. The pace will be about two turn recaps per week, and I will do all the ‘passive’ dice rolling (in the interest of speed, I’ll roll things like saving throws, perception checks, etc.). I am looking for "roleplayers" (no uber builds) whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to write a couple of paragraphs per turn recap within 48 hours after the recap is issued so if you can't meet that schedule please do not bother applying to the game.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, c) personality, and d) portrait or picture. Once players are selected, we will work on a common background to determine if/how the PCs know each other (and may have even worked together in the past).

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: core races strongly preferred, anything Paizo, 4th level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average gold, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, two traits. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

I will accept character submissions until Friday October 30, 2015 but may close the recruitment early (I'll give a 48 hour notice).

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

This where we'll start discussing character concepts and eventually 'play'.

So 'religion' is probably the best glue for this team. However, it does NOT have to be the same deity since there are a few that are against the demons. To add to the variety, we can make the PC not necessarily be 'divine characters' (like Jussi said) but rather 'resources' used in the past (i.e., trustworthy) by the church in question.

Your 'church contact' has asked you to travel to the Diamond City of Nerosyan (Mendev) and report to the local garrison there to Captain Jaspar of the Crusader Heralds. I'll start posting maps and stuff in the campaign as time permits.

So 4th level PCs (other character creation stuff same as Hell's Rebels)

Thoughts?

Unfortunately, I won't be getting my pdf for a couple of weeks (not a subscriber) but I want to start the game sooner than that.

From what I can tell, the AP will start with the 'public protest'. However, I thought of having the players roleplay a couple of previous scenes: a) arrival of Barzillai Thrune and b) proclamation of fist seven edicts.

I figured that this would be a good way to start to get a feel for the PCs, ties to Kintargo, other NPCs, etc.

Let me get a couple of ideas about the 'scenes'...

a) arrival: how do you see this happening? big pompous show? on a carriage pulled by hell hounds? by sea or land? big entourage?

b) proclamation: public plaza? by him or his subordinates?

Thoughts?

Welcome aboard!

Let's start discussing potential PCs, ties, etc.

Just getting ready for an upcoming game...

Hi,

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this question.

I opened up a campaign here but I can't seem to be able to post on the gameplay thread.

We have been posting on the discussion and recruitment threads without problems.

It 'shows' that there is a post there (when I 'edit the campaign') but I don't see it.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Fabian
