Experience 1,405/2,000 | Level 1 | #001: Burnt Offerings | Part 2: Local Heroes | Day 2 (Sunday, 23 Rova 4707)

Day 1 (Starday, 22 Rova 4707)
The Swallowtail Festival begins promptly, as scheduled, on the Autumnal Equinox. The square before the church quickly becomes crowded as locals and travellers arrive, and several merchants tents featuring food, clothes, local crafts and souveneirs are there to meet them.

The turnout for the opening speeches is quite respectable, and the four keynote speakers each deliver short but well-received welcomes to the festival. Mayor Deverin’s friendly attitude and excitement prove contagious as she welcomes visitors to town and jokes about how even Larz Rovanky, the local tanner managed to tear himself away from the tannery to attend, much to everyone’s amusement (except Larz’s). Sheriff Belor Hemlock brings the crowd down a bit with his dour mood, his reminder to be safe around the evening’s bonfire, and his request for a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the fire that claimed the town’s previous church several years ago. The next speaker is scheduled to be local nobleman Lonjiku Kaijitsu, but a sudden illness has prevented him from attending the ceremony. Sandpoint’s own showman Cyrdak Drokkus is more than up to the challenge of bringing the crowd’s mood back up with his rousing anecdotes. He delivers a not-completely-irreverent recap of the long process the town went through to finance and construct the new cathedral. He throws in a bit of selfpromotion at the end, as is his wont, inviting everyone to stop by the Sandpoint Theater the following evening to check out his new production of “The Harpy’s Curse,” revealing that the lead role of Avisera the harpy queen will be played by none other than the famous Magnimarian diva Allishanda! Finally, Father Zantus steps up to give a short speech thanking everyone for coming before declaring the Swallowtail Festival underway.

Knowledge (local) DC 10 or Sandpoint Native:

Larz is a notorius workaholic around town. Lonjiku Kaijittsu is known for hating these types of festivals and frivolities and is generally a very traditional man. Sheriff Hemlock is speaking not only of the fire that claimed the previous chapel (and the previous head priest and his daughter), but also the rest of the Late Unpleasantness—an event spoken of only in hushed whispers by townsfolk. A serial killer known when at large as Chopper and later found to be local hermit and bird-watcher Jervis Stoot. Chopper clamed the lives of some 25 citizens before being caught by the previous sheriff. Unfortunately, Sheriff Avertin was also his final victim.

After the welcoming speeches are done, the crowd disperses to go and enjoy some festival fun and games! It is fairly early in the morning (about 8 am if someone were to have a clock on hand), so there is a good amount of time before the Swallowtail Release at noon.

Alrighty, time to get into the nitty gritty bits. If each of you would like to give an introduction of your character’s appearance and their morning leading into the festival, please do! If you are not a local it would make sense for you to have stayed at the Rusty Dragon Inn the night before (don’’t worry about the cost) unless you have some other interesting way you’d like to enter town.
Now, without further ado, Festival Fun and Games! There are six games that I’ve come up with (I haven’t been doing nothing for the last three weeks, promise) for you all to participate in. Between all the socializing and navigating the crowd I figure that you will each have time to participate in four games before the noon ceremonies take place. At the end of your introductory post, go ahead and pick the first activity that you’d like to participate in (multiple of you can do the same one) and give me a roll for the listed check.

Festival Fun and Games:

Archery Contest: Run by Savah Bevaniky of Savah’s Armory. It costs 1sp to play. Each participant is given 3 arrows and use of a shortbow. The target is 30 ft. away.
Roll attack for a shortbow at 30ft. Point Blank Shot and proficiency bonuses and penalties apply here.

Gemstone Panning: Maver and Pennae Kesk, town jewelers, run a gemstone panning stall with some of the shavings from the jewels they’ve cut. Maver, being as clumsy as he is, accidentally threw some full uncut gems in the trough with the shavings. His wife, through upset with her husband, lets the particpants keep whatever they find. Costs 1cp to play.
Roll an appraise or perception check.

Log Splitting: Run by Ibor Thorn of the Sandpoint Lumber Mill with accompaniment from Katrine Vinder, daughter of the owner of the town’s general store. It costs 1cp to play, and those participating are given a wood-cutting axe (great axe) and one swing at a long sturdy log.
Roll 1d12+1.5*(STR MOD). Add power attack damage if applicable (+3). You may rage for this, though you may scare the townsfolk.

Public Auditions: Cyrdak Drokkus of the Sandpoint Theater runs this event. Cyrdak is looking for people with some spirit to perform in some local talent shows. This event is free of charge.
Roll a bluff, diplomacy, intimidate or perform check here. A good description of the talent being displayed here may give you a bonus.

Tug-o-War: Run by Belven Valdemar of the Sandpoint Shipyard. He has three sailors on one end of the rope and three particpants on the other. This game costs 1cp.
Roll a CMB for this. Lowest rolls will aid the highest.

Varisivia: This game is a joint effort between Brodert Quink, a historian, and Veznutt Parooh, owner of The Way North. Costs 1cp to play. A series of three trivia questions about Sandpoint and the surrounding areas’ history and geography.
Roll three knowledge checks: geography, history and local. You may make these untrained.

Here is our discussion thread! Very excited for us to all get started, hopefully on Monday (10/28) as long as everyone checks in.

Please check in here as your character alias and then dot and delete with your character alias in the gameplay thread as well. I'll be getting a gameplay post up sometime today.

Hello! I am looking to recruit 3-5 players for a special journey through a beloved adventure path. I present to all... SUPER RUNELORDS. I would be running the campaign (anniversary edition) for four players with a 15 point buy, content as written in the book, with restrictions on what sources may be used. There is a final twist of the knife here: we will be running the game on the slow experience track. The normal game ends at nearly 18th level on the fast experience track, so on the slow track the game would enter the final stretch at about 15th level. I don’t want to do this because I love to kill player characters. On the contrary, I’ve only ever done so in a face-to-face game a small handful of times in the past ten years of GMing.

I have run Burnt Offerings seven times to completion. The Skinsaw Murders four times. The Hook Mountain Massacre twice. I have finished the entire campaign only once. Six years I spent reading Rise of the Runelords and trying to make it work and eventually it did. That is why I would like to bring my love for this campaign to a group of people that really want to test their limits. Pathfinder 1st edition's production is over, and while I am mostly focused on playing games and converting content into 2e I would also like to do this as a sort of last hurrah to GMing 1e.

Characters:

Characters will be built with a 15 point buy and two traits, one of which will be a campaign trait. No drawbacks, as those were released in Ultimate Campaign. Sources allowed are as follows: Core Rulebook, Advanced Player’s Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat, Advanced Race Guide* and Ultimate Equipment. The list stops there because of the timing of the anniversary edition’s release. The stipulations from the ARG are that any options made available for core races are viable as well as the following additional races: aasimar, catfolk, dhampir, ifrit, kobold, orc, oread, ratfolk, sylph, tengu, tiefling, undine, changeling, grippli, kitsune, nagaji, samsaran, vanara and vishkanya. Starting gold will be average for your class. If you are unsure what options are available in what book, please refer to this site.

Why 3-5 people?:

Short answer is I already have an IRL friend who would like to join since our face to face games have been more difficult to pull off.

Submission Details:

For the submission I would like three things: a character backstory, your finished first level character (in whatever format is most convenient), and why you are interested in joining. Even though this will be mechanically challenging for everyone, I also care about good roleplay since we will be playing through a very iconic campaign. If you have played Rise of the Runelords before please don’t be afraid to share that here. We may go off the rails a bit at times. I don’t want to sound pompous, but I feel very comfortable with the source material and am willing to change things as needed.

I would like to start playing the game by October 28th, so I would like to have all submissions in by October 24th, 23:59 EDT.

Experience 890/1000 | Level 2 | #097: In Hell's Bright Shadow | Part 2: Rebuilding the Ravens | Day 4 (Sunday, 6 Rova 4715)

Oathday, 3 Rova 4715

Even with the cobblestones of Argent Avenue and the foliage of Aria Park still wet from the morning’s light rain, dozens of Kintargans have gathered along the facade of the opera house to protest the city’s new lord-mayor, Paracount Barzillai Thrune. The city’s new leader was appointed by Her Infernal Majestrix, Queen Abrogail II, in the wake of the previous lord-mayor’s sudden flght from the city—an event that still has local rumormongers whispering furiously. In a scant seven days, Paracount Thrune has instituted martial law, a curfew, and seven outlandish and polarizing proclamations. These actions and more have called many of Kintargo’s dissatisfid citizens here on this overcast morn. There’s been no sign yet of Barzillai Thrune himself, and the opera house’s doors remain tightly closed—as they have since the man chose the landmark as his new home—but judging by the growing sound of the protesters, he surely can’t ignore the scene on the streets below much longer.

Hello and welcome to those of you that have been selected to play Hell's Rebels! It was a tough pick but I'm happy that we will be getting started soon. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. Same goes for comments about availability and anything else you folks want to chat about. I'll make a gameplay thread soon for everyone to go ahead and introduce their characters.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Hello! I would like to recruit 3-5 players (I have one player already) for a Pathfinder 2e conversion of the Hell’s Rebels adventure path that I am currently working on. I will be working on the conversion as we go, which is one of the reasons I feel play by post would be well-suited to the endeavor. The other reason is that I thought I would be running a 2e conversion in a face to face game but my home group went and fell apart, so I now have more free time than I know what to do with.

I am leaving the recruitment at 3-5 because I would run the game with a minimum of 4 total players, though if more than 5 people apply I will most assuredly select 5 from the available applications. I would like to be done recruiting for this game by Thursday 9/12 @ 23:59 PST so that we can have a group and start playing by the following Monday.

PFS Reporting:

Even though this will be run in a 2e conversion of Hell’s Rebels that I am working on, it is still viable as a campaign mode run for PFS 1e! May as well get chronicle sheets for it since I assume most people only ever play an AP once.

Existing Player:

I already have one player that is definitely going to be part of this, a close IRL friend of mine. They said that they will be willing to flex to whatever role the party needs if there is a base uncovered, so don’t worry about applying around their decision.

Application Info:

You do not need to supply me a full build, though feel free to do so. The things I need are: ancestry (with heritage), background, class (with relevant bloodline, doctrine, etc.), and intended role. Please also include some backstory, the length of which is up to you.

Please use the Hell’s Rebels Player’s Guide for information about the campaign. As for campaign backgrounds, I went ahead and made one for each of the traits in the guide, so feel free to use one of those. Links below!

I was going to purchase all of the items in my sidecart, but I've run into some financial trouble and must cancel them. Sorry for the inconvenience.
