I believe you are talking about the other battery packs used most likely to open the other portals and would target those if I saw them but don't remember exactly if that is what you are talking about..

Did we ever determine if the gates were magical?
Ember will fly across the room, a red blur of light, stopping in alignment with the gates and casting another spell at the gates, targeting the same location that Ed was working on previously.

I am confused, there are elemental beings as well as the last "bad" guy? Will pull out scroll of fly (MA) and cast it (SA), then 5 ft up into the air

Very confused...before I had cast a spell and moved there was no one around me...including the mephits. I was by my self in the middle of the room. If there had been one I would have 5ft stepped and cast it at the mephit. How did they get an AoO? Also, I did not provoke when I moved as I could have bypassed the bad guys, I just would have stopped farther away from the computer. And now I still have a mephit next to me after Suli killed the last one last round. Have no problem with the normal attack but the other stuff confuses me.

Edward and Captain Steves both have protection from energy...so far only fireball for 19 damage is seen on them. The other damage was electricity against robot types. I have been hit by rays of fire for no damage as of this time. Don't know if they saved or not on fireball. Don't know about mephits either (you said they would be targeting the casters...was that me as well or no)

Fire resist 20 on me and then immunity to the other two that I cast the spells on of up to 84 damage (12 per lvl)
