Eliza lives on a farm with her mother and father in rural Australia. They owned the farm before the Great War, and thanks to the benefits her father received upon return, they could expand and purchase newer equipment, and update existing buildings.
Growing up, she was the youngest of 7 children, 3 boys and 3 other girls – Adam, James, Cameron, Jordan, Lisa, and Marie. All her siblings are married, and half have children. All her brothers served overseas during the war; Adam as a ground soldier, James as a Medic, and Cameron as a Pilot.
Cameron and Eliza share a love of aviation, and it was thanks to him sneaking her up in the family’s dust cropper that she learnt how to fly.
As family members moved out, Jessica needed to help more and more on the farm, especially during the Great War, when not only did her Father and brothers leave, but most their paid workers did as well. As such, from the tender age of 6, she learnt the ins and outs of all the machinery on the farm, particularly tractors and trucks.
To help her mother and father out financially, Eliza got part time work in a factory assembling various machines and vehicles. She used what her father had taught her about mechanics to excel, and it eventually lead to her current trade as a mechanic specialising in farm equipment and other common rural vehicles.
Eliza has reached an age where pressure both from family and society to get married is becoming more and more prevalent. All her sisters have settled and are raising families, and her mother wants to see her youngest child married before either her or her husband pass away.
Growing up on a farm, droving cattle and riding wherever you please, Eliza has gotten used to a certain level of freedom and hearing stories from her father and brothers, as well as the media, about countries overseas, Eliza has caught the adventure bug. This is the time of the empowered woman, the independent woman. News of Amy Johnson’s solo flight from England to Australia was the final push she needed. She would have one big adventure before making her parents happy and tying the knot.
