(4 stars)Elegoshttps://paizo.com/products/btq02c12?Starfinder-Society-Scenario-416-Hope-for-the-Future2023-06-28T09:44:21Z
Starfinder Society Scenario #4-16: Hope for the Future

I loved running this scenario. It's very atmospheric, and really manages to bring an epic end to the season. Glad to see this one put to bed in such a decisive fashion.

Prime is a fantastic villain, and will play well to gm's that love a bit of maniacal self justifying evil egotism. (like me!)

The combat's...maybe I was just rolling like ass, but it felt like despite the number of fights, none of them were particularly exciting.

Also...please space out character changes in dialogue during briefings! It's very hard to rapid fire 6 different voices in a single paragraph!

All in all, I'd highly recommend this. Great to see a season finale that isn't a special!

Starfinder Society Scenario #4-16: Hope for the Future

I loved running this scenario. I'm ignoring the map for my own sanity (5 stars)Elegoshttps://paizo.com/products/btq02egv?Starfinder-Ports-of-Call2023-05-26T10:24:24Z
Starfinder Ports of Call

This was a great book- lots of adventure hooks, lost of interesting places to set a campaign in. Still want some actual adventure content though.

The map...lets leave aside that fact that it doubles down on how small the galaxy feels in Starfinder to the point where Drift Lanes feel kinda pointless. I haven't thought about my astrophysics degree in literally years outside of some coding stuff I still use. Looking at this map took me right back to 3rd year Galaxy formation and Stellar Lifecycle modules.

That's not how galaxies work. That's definitely not how galactic collisions look. HOW BIG IS THAT BLACK HOLE?! It's HUNDREDS OF LIGHTYEARS ACROSS?! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MASS THAT WOULD TAKE?! IT WOULD OUTWEIGH THE REST OF THE GALAXY BY SO MANY ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE I CAN'T EVEN THINK!

Also it just looks more like a nebula then a galaxy.

Stuff is spread haphazardly, with very little regard for anything that makes sense. (if the Veskarium is near space, then most of the galaxy is near space)

Starfinder Ports of Call

This was a great book- lots of adventure hooks, lost of interesting places to set a campaign in.
And if you're a player who's just leveled up and really wants to try out your build in some challenging combats? You could do a lot worse then to play this.
But it really suffers from being pure combat. Zo! stuff has normally been really diverse, with a mix of skill challenges, combats and meta humour. This was...kind of a slog, especially when you could drop one or even both of the Encore combats in order to put in some actual...adventure.

Starfinder Society Scenario #3-10: Live Adventure Extreme!

From a GM prep perspective- this was super easy, barely an inconvenience.

The crux of the adventure, the investigation, was really disappointing, boiling down to "ask 1 specific npc where the bad guy is and that's it. Compared to other investigations (most specifically 1-10 The Half Alive streets) it was incredibly lacklustre. Even more galling when better investigations have used the very same npc! (Side note, does AbadarCorp have any other employees?)

The combats and traps were fine, though a little lacklustre. The primary antagonist was lacking much in the way of sticking power in a fight, especially if the players provoke them.

Another frustrating feature is a continual peeve of mine: stop putting initial investigation contacts and other crucial information in player questions. A lot of players are really bad at asking questions during mission briefs. I dont know why but they are. As a gm it's really frustrating trying to get them started when they didnt ask the relevant questions and then have no idea how to start.

Starfinder Society Scenario #3-05: The Hivemarket Heist

I was excited to run this adventure, but its execution left a lot to be desired. The encounters (running high tier with 5 players 2 out of tier) were challenging and fun. Almost to lethal, but just right, I think.

This scenario really falls down in 2 places.
The first is the maps: the map designs used feel...wrong for the encounters that take place in them. Players gravitate to the larger final fight first, rather then the expected order laid out in the scenario.

The latter is the presentation of information. A question and answer section like the mission briefing for del thara and Toressa would be far more useful in allowing gms to respond to player inquiries.

All in all, worth playing but not a standout of the season like I'd hoped

Starfinder Society Scenario #2-21: Illegal Shipment

This scenario was a lot of fun! Between the ongoing dataphiles plot (easily my favourite narrative of season 1), the heist nature of the mission, the seeds of a much deeper conspiracy and a great interrogate the traitor setup, theres a lot to love.
