Prior to Feat of Passages
Nodding in agreement with Nevitash, Ale will decline any horses unless strongly encouraged, he has no desire to ride another creature when given the chance.
"I have no need of food, though I have 6 gold I can spare for others if needed."

Feast of Passage
Ale follows along, not having any need of food but wishing to be polite and engaged.

"Oh, I had nearly forgotten! Time does fly when you're traveling." Chantal leans her scythe against the wall, dropping her pack next to it before she accepts a mug and joins the toast. I'd love the recipe if it isn't a secret."

After eyeing the drink uncertainly, Ale sighs and tries some. Better to risk it than be a complete bore. Sudden surprise lights his face.

Out of respect for the world, I have always limited my consumption of unnecessary food and drink, but you are right, this is quite good!"

Is that all acceptable for your standards?

What is the general climate like in the area we would be around? If there is a set climate?

Thanks!

Where is VMC Wizard from? It's unfamiliar to me. Otherwise, it looks solid.

It was an optional way of multiclassing that was introduced in Unchained. Basically you give up feats at levels 3, 7, 11, 15, and 19 to gain class abilities associated the the "multiclass".

Link below shows what you get for each class.

Variant Multiclassing

in my case I would gain the following instead of feats at the following character levels:

3rd level) Wizard Familiar
7th level) 1st Level Wood School Wizard abilities
11) Wizard cantrip as a SpA
15) Wizard Discovery or Feat
19) 8th Level Wood school ability.

Outside of the Wood themed abilities, I'm looking at getting a Familiar with the Valet Archetype to be a little crafting buddy and, if we ever saw 15th level, there is a crafting focused Arcane Discovery.

Yon watches as the box closes, his face impassive, his usually calm demeanor returned for the moment. He then turns his attention to the floating Robot.Suddenly irritation crosses his face, soon replaced by a fury of the darkest kind. "I'm tired of this derelict, under-engineered piece of hardware following us around on this dysfunctional ship with these dysfunctional creatures! EXTERMINATE!
Yon unleashes death upon the floating drone.
Death to Machines: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 2 = 22Burn, Robot!
Firey Death: 1d8 + 1d6 + 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + (3) + (3) + (5) = 19

Yon wonders to himself how easy it might be to disassemble and reassemble the robot, for investigating purposes. "No, that would be illogical. He mutters.
His mind was processing sluggishly. He does his best to turn his attention elsewhere to more productive things.
"That did not quite go as I had hoped. I'm having some trouble processing information right now, was this the last room on the ship? If so maybe we should find Sybil and then possibly rest? Or should we press on and try to get down to the asteroid?" Yon was having some trouble making decisions currently and was not sure which made more sense.

When this is all done, maybe the ambassador might donate a few spare parts to me from one of those drones. Yon accidentally turns his attention back to the eyebot one last time.

As he thinks a bit more, making sure the gear is stowed on his horse,
Golwen flips through the first couple pages of his journal, checking against a few notes he made of the Wilderness before leaving. He notices one little scribbling, a few thoughts he made.

Golwen took notes in a variety of ways. Sometimes we would write down many complex instructions in shorthand that he could read, much like the spells in his spellbook. Other times when trying to condense information, like in this case, he made notes of a few important ideas along with any major themes, feelings, or thoughts he had of something when he learned of it. The goal was to condense as much information as possible.

In this case, he read the thoughts and after thinking a few moments he spoke.
"This 'Lahppiduk' you speak of Alzul. I read in once in a book, oh what was that book? It might have been an Elven one, Max, Ilamin, uh... Ryker? Let I know if this sounds familiar. The version I read was a translation, Elven is beautiful but not something I've yet learned. Anyways, I think the title was 'Intersectional Studies between the First World Interests and the Prime: Fey, Elves, and Sub-Elves.' Or at least that was the translated title. I think the author might have had a preference for Elvenkind, a bit pointed that title.

Anyways, I think the term comes from some sort of Fey Diplomat meant to intersect with Man and Elf, specifically when a Wilderness area is the topic at hand. I believe their contact can come about for a few different reasons, sometimes its just a matter of standard fare, other times it can be if something terrible is about to happen, or has happened. Hopefully, that is not the case here...

The important bit is that such a creature is likely trying to make contact here. " Golwen clears his throat while studying his handiwork on his horse. He pauses a moment longer.
"Ryker, you seem to have your gear well and properly stowed, would you mind making sure I've properly secured everything on my friend here? It's probably good, but I wouldn't want to cause him any discomfort."

Ilamin Medvyed wrote:

"I remember a few things, he curses his own father's name. I'm not sure why this got known about the man...but well, apparently he's a drunkard so perhaps it is simply known from his drunken ragings. A cautionary tale to be sure about overindulging. I digress, there is, however, one more unsettling rumor. Now this, I know only as a rumor but it's one to worry about all the same for the severity of it. He supposedly has ties to some sort of necromatic power. The rumors never go heavily into it and perhaps it's purely some local superstition to help keep children from playing in the forests of your children's generation but still, it is worrisome." he offered.

As Ilamin starts, Golwen empties the ash out of his pipe, frowning partway through as he repacks it. "A drunkard with powers of necromancy ought to be something interesting." He snaps his fingers and leaf starts the process of becoming ash. "I've known drunks in my time, their dangerous enough just with a half-empty bottle in their hands and a mean streak. Overindulgence indeed." He puffs while he ponders. "If true, I'm sure a dash of Necromancy only makes such a fellow... so much more pleasant." Golwen adds the last bit, his voice dripping with sarcasm and he takes another puff, slowly exhaling.

Golwen, now finding himself in yet another different situation than he had been expecting nods, unloading his crossbow. Only ever fired one of these things a couple of times anyway.

Golwen chatters on to Ilamin, hiding his nerves beneath what he knows.
"I am quite knowledgeable about words. Did you know I took coursework studying Contact Linguistics along with Semantics? I thought the former would be useful for interacting with Outsiders and the latter for understanding the power of language beneath spells. It's really quite... well never mind. This plan seems reasonable to me.

So we shall try and make peace with the Kobolds, establish basic trust, and then warn them about the goblins, hopefully gaining their aid in dealing with the goblins and thus acquiring an ally of a... sort.

Shall we make haste then?"

Assuming we make it to the Small Reptillians in time."
May Desna smile upon this endeavor.
Finishing a quick prayer, Golwen calls out to the small creatures, leaving his unloaded crossbow rest on his saddle and bringing his hands up. He directs his attention primarily on the Kobold that Ilamin pointed towards.

A squad of goblins is moving towards our position as I speak and we must prepare ourselves in order for their assault. We have friends nearby who are positioned to strike at their flanks as part of a surprise attack."

Golwen pauses for a moment to let the words sink in a second, before continuing.
"Dāng wǒmen kāishǐ duì tāmen jìnxíng gōngjí shí, wǒmen xūyào nǐ dǎjí tāmen de zhōngxīn, zhèyàng zuò, wǒmen jiāng xiāochú zhè zhǒng bùliáng de gōngjí, bìngqiě wǒmen jiāng zhèxiē dejīng fàng zài tāmen túnbù xiàmiàn de dàtóu shàng!"

"When we begin our attack against them, we need you to strike at their center, do so and we shall dispel this ill-wrought attack and we shall send those goblins with their big heads tucked beneath their buttock's!"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Golwen glances sideways at Illmen nervously, to see if he has anything to add and waits.

Yon had been awake for several hours, parts cluttered his bed space which he had refurbished into a workbench of sorts. His blueish artificial tattoos glowed brightly as he focused working on his latest project.

His arrival at Absalom Station and recent promotion to full agent I hope! had left him feeling more hopeful than he had in a while. Perhaps they would have the resources to help him out. If not, at least they might allow him to use this body for some sort of good.

An clink could be heard as he snapped the last piece of his Exocortex back together. Not waiting, Yon reintegrated the unit back into his head, excited to test out the latest modifications. Upon activating the unit, his vision started going crazy, his combat tracking unit started trying to target anything that was... blue? Yon groans inwardly, clearly he should have compiled the code first to make sure the new modifications hadn't screwed anything up.

Not long later, Yon had Trianna reengaged and seemingly working fine. He had changed her from running a Piloting subroutine to one more appropriate for climbing and swimming. Perhaps he would give her a test run sometime this week. Trianna beeped in his head in approval of the new upgrades as a new thought entered his mind. Food.

Gathering up his basic equipment Yon leaves to find the nearest source where he can replenish his bodies energy. Reading the note he finds outside of his door.
Perhaps a real mission. Good.

Yon decides to quickly pack up his gear and bring it along. Noticing his travel clothing still dirty he briefly considers trying to buy new clothing or washing them, then decides against it. A combination of low credits and time led the Android to decide that social niceties could be shrunken in order to better enable him to complete more important objectives.

As Yon moves to obtain food, he attempts to make eye contact with a middle age, male Human for several seconds, he hoped that they would take his hint and interact with him...They did not. Instead, the seemed to stop looking him in the eyes and continue moving on. Yon noticed their step seeming to increase in frequency per minute. Odd. Eye contact should be good for signaling I seek interaction. Why does it work sometimes and not others? Curious. Trianna, note for further research. Figure this out we must. The atmospheric qualities? No, where is the logic in that Trianna? A few more bugs to work out, I have.

Trianna beeps in his head acknowledging the quarry for later. Eventually finding food Yon does his best to maximize his time, eating along the way to the embassy. Muttering to himself:
"Test some of my new ideas? The time it is perhaps, and time for new teammates. How exciting! Perhaps they will better understand eye contact. Yes... I bet they will."

I totally understand Shadow. I will be sad to see this game go as I've been very excited about this campaign, and everyone else here, but I most certainly understand.

I'll go ahead and also admit, that the amount of games you are in has always seemed staggering towards me, and I have been impressed with the amount of time we have gotten from you. Even with the extremely diminished posting rate, I've still managed to enjoy this campaign up to this point and have continued to feel a sense of excitement going forward. So thanks for that.

If this is farewell then I truly hope things work out well for you and your daughter and that things with your marriage continue to be amicable. My parents divorced roughly 6 years back, and I think from the child's perspective some of the most important things for me and my brothers were that:
-They worked to stay amicable (after a few rough years to start).
-They continued to work hard for us, but they also eventually continued moving forward with their own lives. It was as painful for me to see my father suffer initially as it was to come to terms with things myself.

So, again, I wish you a great deal of luck with everything, financially, with your daughter, and with your own life (and book!).

To everyone else: If we get to continue playing together that would be fantastic. But I'd like to go ahead and say that however short things have been, I've enjoyed taking some time out of life to go on this little expedition with you all.

That being said, I'll be hitting the road tomorrow so I will try and check during lunch at work and right after work before I leave. But feel free to keep things moving. Matt won't actively harm the Owlbear unless it gets involved with Allies or "innocents". If anything he will seek to help it should it be attacked by bandits (though not if the fight looks suicidal).

Mattrim eyes the men carefully, before stripping (or attempting to) them of their weapons while Saber keeps an eye on them. When doing so, Mattrim poses a question. "Have you ever been had a Tiger maw on you? It's not very pleasant from what I've observed. Don't try anything or I'd be more than happy to let you learn."

Mattrim will work to help tie them up.

Okay, maybe I don't play the angry nature warrior ready to slaughter bandits indiscriminately very well. :)

I find myself in agreement with the general sentiment that the features you lose aren't too big. I played a Tielfing Empiricist Investigator with Student of Philosophy. Never once did I find the lack of Poison related stuff or Swift Alchemy a real loss.

But I really enjoyed having a number of powerful skills run off of my primary stat. Best was being able to double dip with intelligence. More skills and better skills was very nice. To be fair, I super dumped charisma (a mighty 5) so the difference was more in the order of +8. That's before level ups. Wisdom was smaller but still favored intelligence (+3).

Swift Alchemy doesn't really seem to do a lot. I admit I just don't really value it. More of a "neat" thing that I have no qualms trading.

I've been playing Pathfinder for about a year and a half now, give or take, and I've played in a lot of one shots, like 3 APs, modules, and home brew (sadly most have fallen apart, hence the variety). I'm thinking the number of poisons I've ran into could be counted on one hand. Of those, I remember only one situation where the poison might have mattered. But a scroll of neutralize poison too care of the matter. I'm not saying that's how it is for everyone, but poisons in my experience just have never been common (or threatening) enough that I've ever really cared. Further, the number of illusions I've ran into have been about the same amount, so I really see the loss of poison resistance being a wash.

But also to echo the sentiment, I see the Investigator as being the "skill" class. Which the Empiricist archetype adds too, all so nicely.

Perhaps our experiences differ but mine suggest the Empiricist being pretty good.

Mattrim stands there doing his best to maintain patience before dismissing the birds.

Sighing Mattrim turns back after hearing Duska, Cuddles, and Anton; grimacing at the latter's yell. "Not so loud."

Mattrim does his best not to show his discomfort from riding while reaching in to his belt pouch to hand Saber a scrap of meat, before scratching the Tiger's ears.

Hearing Ra'hl
"Dunno, haven't been back yet. We scouted to the other side of the river, ran into some sort of "creature" guarding the passing we found." Mattrim nods his head towards Anton, hoping the wizard might give a better description before continuing. "We found a place to pass though, and decided to head back before trekking to far in on our own. We decided it would be easiest to meet up with you here, and see what you found."

Mattrim begins to study the area more closely, interest taking over his face. Letting out a low whistle: "This place is something. Was it this 'neat' when you found it?"

Abraham sighs before slowly getting back to his feet after the others finish searching. "Alright then, thanks for the respite. I think I should be good to go. I'll just have to deal with it as we go. If you all are ready that is?"

Do we want to make like a page where we stick things of interest or just have someone plop them on their sheet?

Well maybe there is more to the man then his pretty clothes. Mattrim thinks to himself after Ra'hl speaks.

An odd gleam that Saber would know for excitement enters his eyes as he begins to speak.

"I think those groups make sense, I'm not bad with my sword and Saber and I together are a force to be reckoned with. I know enough of the land I should be of service to help navigate our group as well.

I'm sure Aleria and you seem to be able to handle yourselves fine, from what I gather. I am a little disappointed to see what a man in such fancy clothes can do, if you fight as well as you talk, there might be hope yet."
Mattrim pointedly ignores Duska.

"Just promise me, Cuddles, that you won't crush Saber. He isn't the biggest on having his personal space invaded. Though what about you Anton? Are you fit for travel?"

whoops, I missed that hour long bit

Lershoth not sure what to do but not seeing or hearing any of the rest decides to return to his lab to prepare some extracts.

That passage goes on for a long time, from what I remember. No sense in trying to catch then when they've been gone for so long. Best to be prepared.

Spend 3 minutes prepping 3 extracts, leaving 1 open:

extracts prepared:
Cure Light Wounds, Reduce Person, Enlarge Person

After that he will check on the ones taking shelter in the area to see if any are hurt.

So to try and get back onto topic. Earlier in the thread (there are too many pages for me to go back and find the quote, sorry) postulated that the reason there were so many nerfs was because Paizo was trying to bring the games overall power level down.

Let me ask the community: Is bringing the overall power level of the game down a peg a good thing? If so, are there better ways to accomplish it? What better ways would you suggest trying to do that?

I'd argue that lowering the ceiling and bringing up the floor of power levels would be a good thing. The more classes that can play and interact at the same power level without artificial limitations, the better. In that regard, Unchaining the Rogue and chaining the summoner were both steps in the right direction.

This is in response (mostly) to the questions Chris asked, I don't remember them exactly and I don't feel like digging through this monster to find them:

These numbers don't correlate to anything outside of my own numbering system.
1) I would like to see previous errata and such available in some easily accessible form.

2) I like the idea of separating FAQs, FAQerratas/Errata's into different things. Minor text changes (ie: spelling errors/punctuation) I don't care about.

3) I think it be neat to see explanations and such following FAQ and errata, it be nice just to know what the devs thought and why they thought such.

4) specifically with FAQs I think blog posts would be nice. Or at least some way to reasonably search them.

5) I like the idea of polls, I love polls! But, more seriously, I think it be cool if the people on the forums got to have some direct input about what changes might happen, and even get some direct discussion with the devs about what changes might happen, and ideas for doing so (kind of like the play test threads).

6) following from 5, I think it be nice to have some forewarning in general about hot button FAQs and large amounts of errata changes.

That's about it with those, Thanks Chris!

On another note, personally I was/am pretty annoyed/frustrated/irritated over the whole ACG errata (I've also been annoyed with all the seemingly nerfs in general with recent FAQs). Some things need changed, I get that, some things I really don't understand why they were changed. I strongly dislike how it feels like things get lowered to basically worthless status when they get FAQ'd or Errata'd.

Just my opinion(s).

Cheers!

So if all the members of the group are aware of my limitations and they still force me to play like that it's my problem for having a condition I can't do anything about?

To an extent that is correct. You described your condition as "social blindness," so allow me to borrow your metaphor. A blind person joins a meetup group that does art outings once a month. The first month they go to a poetry reading, the next they go to an orchestra concert. The third month they go to a play. For the fourth month they plan to go to a gallery.

The seeing impaired individual says, "hey, I can't really get anything out of that plus last time we did a play and I didn't get as much from that as the other stuff. I think we should not do the gallery thing."

It is completely appropriate for the group to reply, "This is an art society. We intend to do all manner of outings including some which are purely visual. We understand that you may not choose to participate in those activities but we have no intention of providing alternative choices or outings. If this is deal breaker for you then we understand that you must fill your desires as you see fit and there are no hard feelings. Please understand that we will continue to fulfill our free time desires in a way that we most enjoy as well."

The same is true of the gaming group. If they have fun doing the social stuff then that's how they have fun. You can't expect them to stop doing the things they enjoy.

Your example makes sense to an extent but it makes the people in the Art Society sound not very inclusive in my opinion, specifically because they are refusing to adjust to a members needs.

I'm not saying I expect that Art Society to completely abandon ship for visual art but I would expect them to be willing to try and help the blind person by either:
1) Having alternative trips (assuming others would want to).
2) Possibly having less visual art based trips in general.
3) Doing things to help the blind person appreciate the trip, such as describing the art they see, how it makes them feel, etc.

Maybe the group doesn't want to do any of those things but in my opinion it makes that particular group sound either snobbish and/or uncaring.

Note: I'm not trying to suggest that a DM/Group should just give up on what they like, but I don't think that it is unreasonable for a group to adjust at least a little for someone who, for whatever reason, finds the roleplaying aspects of the game hard and who would like to augment/support their play with roles. It's not stopping anyone else from acting to their hearts content.

Yeah, basically what Manwolf said.

The thing is with Natural attack that you have three different possibilities.

1) If the creature is using a secondary natural attack, the attack is always made at -5 (in regard to full BAB) on the attack roll and it gets .5x strength mod (this is also true if you combine ANY natural attack with a full-attack with manufactured weapons). Power attack in this case would be -1 to hit for +1 damage.

2) The creature has more than 1 attack and they are primary (if secondary then see point 1). In this case all of the primary attacks would be made at full BAB with 1x Strength Mod. Power attack in this case would be at normal values (-1 to hit for +2 damage)

3) The creature has only one natural attack. The attack is made at full BAB using 1.5x Strength Mod (and would get -1 to hit for +3 damage on Power Attack).

For the record, for everyone who mentioned my initial post about Light and Dancing Lights, I don't think either is overpowered. Indeed, I am quite glad they are 0 level, I was just making the point that they pretty easily remove natural darkness as being any sort of challenge. Sure there are multiple races with darkvision, many cheap alternatives, but many of those suffer some limitations (ie: torches getting wet). It may not be representative of the community as a whole but id say about 95% of the casters I've played with had one or the other prepared/known.

Back to the OP, Confusion's ability to make a group of enemies completely destroy each other was something that caught me off guard the first time I saw it used.

I also tend to forget that Shield blocks Magic Missile (edit: Ninja'd).

I think we all agree on the RAI... But this is the rules forum and in here it is important to note the distinction between RAW and RAI.

So far the closest you've come to proving what we all believe is RAI is that short description level always refers to caster level, but since this isn't from short description it technically doesn't apply.
And

Unless there is a rule that specifically states default to character level, then in the absence of anything further 'most relevant level' is where the smart money goes.

is a very reasonable assumption when it comes to RAI, but not RAW, unless we can show somewhere that it spells out that this is the assumption we are supposed to have.

So by RAW I still hold that a paladin 7 would get resist 20 when he casts resist energy. I have FAQ'ed it myself, because I believe as you do (and I'd run it the RAI way aswell, unless I was playing organized in which case I'd still run it as such unless someone brought this up).

By RAW, what is 7th level?
