As a minimalist I like option 2 best but would prefer a much more simple ledger sheet similar to the one Cyrad posted in the first reply. Those who want to be more elaborate are welcome to do so but if can carry my PFS paperwork in something akin to an index card pouch I’d be thrilled.

Things I expect will be up for tweaking:
Amount of HP dished out per level
Individual feats and spells
Resonance

I'd like to be wrong. But I am not very hopeful at this stage.

Agreed. The book has already been written and major changes based on player feedback just will not happen. Minor tweaks are expected since glitches will most likely be discovered once those of us well outside the Paizo bubble begin playtesting.

Between the success of the We Be Goblins line and the PFS Goblin race boom being one of the most asked about organized play rewards....Goblins as PCs is entirely our fault.

If I were to pretend that chronicle sheets do not exist and were tasked with building one from the ground up would consider the following information to be neccessary:

-Name of the scenario/module/adventure;
-Name and PFS # of the character that completed the above;
-What was earned for completing the above (gold, XP, prestige, boons & purchasable items.
-Date completed, name & PFS # of GM

Everything else (items purchased, total gold, total XP, total prestige, fame, etc) can be kept track of by the player on character and inventory tracking sheets.

While I like the idea of not wasting paper, I am against a digital-only solution.

The reality is that many games already never get reported online, or are reported incorrectly. Increasing the number of things that need to be reported will only make for more opportunities to get things wrong.

As a GM, I don’t need the extra burden of reporting detailed data, and dealing with players who dispute the online record. As a player, I don’t want my characters’ rewards to rely on the reporting accuracy of someone that I may never see again.

True...but I'm my opinion it is problematic that we are currently utilizing two systems of keeping track of things that don't work well with one another. While I'm sure that the online reporting provides useful marketing information for Paizo, as one half of the checks and balances system for organized play it fails miserably.

If I were charged to rebuild the reporting system from the ground up it would look like this:

1. Campaign Journals: A player would be responsible for keeping an accurate campaign journal for each of their characters. This could exist in paper or electronic form. (If you choose an electronic form and for some reason it malfunctions congratulations...you're playing a pregen!) The first few pages of the journal will contain your character sheet and inventory sheet. Instead of a single chronicle sheet for each scenario multiple scenarios will be reported on each page (look to the PACG tracking sheets for inspiration.)

2. GMs will be responsible for reporting their games online similar to the way they do now; but the data will be for Paizo alone to see. GMs will receive incentives for timely reporting. (Quarterly rewards based on a point system perhaps?)

3. Pregens would be available for each tier of play.

4. Do your shopping on your own time...just make sure your inventory record is accurate. (It is insulting to think that players need supervision to accomplish simple arithmatic.)

Much of this requires a heavy reliance on the honor system which I realize some people are going to be uncomfortable with; but in practice our current system relies just as heavily on self policing as any other one would.

I’m sure the notion of Goblins as a playable race is in response to the success of the We Be Goblins series and the number of times the “how to I get a goblin race boon” question has been asked on these forums.

Our current goblins are known as filthy cannon fodder that occasionally provide comic relief. These may not be the goblins of 2e.

If an item appears on a chronicle sheet it should either:

1. Be unique to the scenario (this could simply be flavorful...ala Silverhex)
2. Be available earlier than it would be otherwise (under the current system that would mean prior to earning the requisite amount of fame) or
3. Be cheaper that it would be otherwise. (again...Silverhex)

And as crazy as this may sound I would be in favor of a paperless campaign; although this would require accurate, reliable reporting and might rely more heavily on the honor system than some might be comfortable with.

But if it requires attending a convention to acquire, then you've gone from having the appearance of ignoring non-convention going GMs to actively taking rewards away from them, and seeing as it's local game days that keep people interested in the campaign in between conventions, they deserve better than that. Without these game day events, people would lose interest in the campaign, and convention play would be a mere shadow of what it is now.

I will agree with you that the GMs in the trenches who are running regular games in their communities are the lifeblood of this campaign; but just because I don't have the same toys as everybody else doesn't mean I'm not having fun in the playground. As a non-convention going GM I feel as though I am well compensated through GM Credit and the boons I earn from running and participating in the online game day events. I have yet to use a GM star to replay a scenario, I haven't applied the GM Star Chronicle to any of my characters, and I always forget to make use of my rerolls; so I'm not even utilizing everything that is being offered to me.

There is always an opportunity to lament about what I don't have; but that tends to make me sad and miserable. I find I'm in much better spirits if I appreciate what I do have. If all else fails...there's always beer.

If you want to play a restricted race and do not have a boon feel free to join a non PFS game. Participating in the organized play program is not required to enjoy Pathfinder.

If you don't have access to conventions and want to earn a racial boon you can always offer to GM a game for an upcoming PbP Game Day.

….and away we go! A few bookkeeping items as we get started:

1. Please make sure your PFS # is somewhere in your profile. If you'd prefer not to display it publicly you can PM it to me.

2. Please put the following information in the class/level section of your profile: Class Level (archetype) - HP - AC: /T: /FF: - Perception - F: / R: /W: - CMB - CMD - Speed - Init.

3. Faction Missions are no longer given out and a secondary success condition must be met in order to earn that second prestige point.

4. My expectation is that everyone will post at least once every 24 hours during the weekdays. I plan to update the game each morning between 6am and 8am US Eastern Time. If you haven't posted by then I reserve the right to act on behalf of your character.

5. I will be using Google Drive (formerly Google Docs) for all maps. Everyone will have the appropriate permissions to move their own tokens; but if you're posting from a tablet or a phone and are unable to do so just describe as best as you can where you want to move and either I or one of the other players will move your token for you.

6. My assumption is that everyone "Takes 10" on passive rolls like Perception when exploring areas and searching for loot.

7. When combat begins I will roll initiative for the group and post an initiative order.

Sorry...but I'm going to turn this right back around on you. People need to stop feeling that they are entitled at having a chance at something special because they attend conventions. I would argue that someone who regularly GMs games throughout the year contributes more to the community at large than someone who attends a convention.

To counter D&D Next, Paizo should continue to put out the same high quality product they've been producing for the past decade. No need to make a knee jerk reaction. While D&D Next will sell extraordinarily well the first three to six months after release its popularity will wane just as 4E's did once the quality of their supplementary materials begins to decline.

Let me preface my comments by saying that I will probably never attend GenCon, PaizoCon, or any one of the major conventions where these special racial boons are rewarded. Even on the off chance that I do make it to GenCon again (I have attended in the past), the chances of me actually surviving the gauntlet to earn one of these boons is fairly slim.

That said I wish that people would stop complaining about the existence of the boons, because I'm afraid that the powers that be will reach a tipping point and will choose not to offer such boons in the future. And that would be a shame. I think that these special boons are extraordinarily cool incentives...and even though I may never earn one I would never want to deprive someone else of doing so.

As disappointed as you are in what you've labelled a "money grab", I am equally disappointed at the idea of GMs choosing which of the Organized Play Guidelines that they will and will not follow when running games. Perhaps even more so.

It's really not all that important for me for the Pathfinder MMO to succeed. I would love to get my hands on the Emerald Spire super dungeon and have pledged accordingly.

I fully expect one or two last minute Hail Mary passes to show up later today in the form of add-ons. If I see something that is worth $30 (or more) to me I will gladly up my pledge. Otherwise it remains where it is.

This is my line of thinking as well. Do whatever is necessary [OOC] to satisfy the PFS rules; but come up with an [IC] reason for why he paid the gold for the Atonement. Perhaps the Lodge or his faction leader made him "an offer he couldn't refuse." Maybe he's been plagued by nightmares and has been unable to sleep (and therefore unable to work; which would play into his practicality.)

Tal begins to consider life as a paralyzed Pathfinder. So long as his companions are kind enough to provide nourishment on a regular basis, assuming he needs nourishment, he may see a lot as the world goes by around him.

Perhaps transport could be arranged and I could be returned to the Grand Lodge and placed prominently in the Great Room. I would be like a living statue. Stories would be told about me...and I would get some amusement out of listening to them change over time. Perhaps the legend will take a slightly weird turn and it will be told that only the kiss of a beautiful princess will awaken me from my slumber. Then the women will come from far and wide....

Who am I kidding...in about five minutes these things are going to get tired of foreplay and just start eating me.

Since the start of this year I have participated in (or am currently participating in) over a dozen PbP games for the Pathfinder Society. Of which all but one has been an incredibly positive experience. Oddly enough...my only negative experience has the game that Sveden references in the original post....which is currently running on Paizo's forums.

Like Xzaral, without PbP games I would barely be able to play PFS (if at all), and as a direct result would not be purchasing Paizo product. So for me the notion of PbP is, for the most part, working as intended.

There are always going to be renegade GMs and players who believe things like the CRB and the Organized Play Guide don't apply to them; but this is not limited to PbP. From home games, to in store games and perhaps occasionally even in convention play there are people out there who regularly break the rules; and the only way to completely eliminate this would be to discontinue Organized Play entirely.

And that would be a mistake.
