Bones displays a near-death bravery that will resonate in childhood stories across the Pact World for generations and his disk flies through the air, emitting a piercing scream that strikes at Exegera. It hits and her eyes glass over as her eardrums explode and she slumps to the dirt, destroyed.

The mercs look at each other in panic, clearly realising they are in above their heads.

Yellow is still looking around in panic as Funfreemy's spear penetrates his abdomen, turning his insides into soup. His last thought before he hits the ground dead is I should have asked for more money

Hikaze fires at Orange and it strikes him in the chest and he slumps to his knees. Seeing his fellow Mercs and Exegera fall, Orange crawls away into the foliage crying like a baby and whimpering I want some warm milk....

Battle over. Well done all. +1 to Bones on his next roll for outstanding bravery in the face of near death

Shortly after, the ysoki proprietors of the Vat Garden return. They are thankful for you dealing with the thieves and provide six plant bulbs as a reward. These will help should you ever find yourselves on the wrong end of a poisonous bite my friends. Thank you!

Plant Bulbs:
When chewed, each bulb acts as a dose of tier-1 antitoxin.

You can search the Yellow and Blue Mercs if you wish for loot but Orange has esacped to find his mummy.

Merc Loot, sell at 10% of value:

Each Merc has an assault hammer, azimuth laser pistol with battery (20
charges), credstick with 250 credits

Exegera lies dead on the floor but you quickly find her datapad.

DC15 Computers:

Exegera traveled aboard a vessel called the Endless Threnody that picked up the distress call of a Starfinder vessel. The Corpse Fleet ship traveled to the Starfinder vessel’s crash site on a desert planet and acquired several treasures, including the Starfinder insignias. Before the Endless Threnody could get into the Drift, it was surprised and crippled by a pirate ship identified as the Lawblight . The Endless Threnody now floats in the Drift, unable to leave, and Exegara was dispatched to acquire repair materials. Exegara’s datapad shows her ship, the Endless Threnody current location. Your expertise in navigating the datapad reveals that the coordinates of the Starfinder Vessel are stored somewhere on the Endless Threnody navigational computer.

You return to Arvin who greets you warmly An outstanding job, I knew I could rely on you. I need to process this information and arrange some transport for you. He looks at your wounds and Bones and Hikaze in particular You should rest for a day or two and replenish your supplies. You'll be going off world and you'll need your wits about you. Keep the Insignias for now, they might be useful for you. Not many people know but they can be used to encrypt and decrypt information.

Suggest you heal wounds, sell loot and have a well earned beer before we kick on

You'll see the inginisas soon enough once you get them from that wretched Vesk. But know this, the crew of the Unbounded
Wayfarer received the insignias long ago for exemplary service to the Society. Although this isn’t common knowledge outside the
Starfinder Society, these insignias are no mere trinkets; they can be used to encrypt or decrypt information that the Starfinders
wanted to keep hidden, hence their value to us. We have paid a heavy price both in the loss of the Unbound Wayfarer and in the price that Vesk has extracted from us. Tread carefully, Downlow as you know is...an interesting place. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some other urgent business to attend to. It appears we've had a report of the Aspis Consortium messing with our servers and causing problems

He waves you away.

It takes you around an hour to travel to Downlow in the morning hustle. Although some areas of Downlow are clean and trendy, you find yourself in a narrow alley of concrete and metal buildings dripping with oil, sparking wires and menace.

A wide, red neon electric sign reads Julzakama’s Loans on a building sandwiched between a Kuthite sensation house and a derelict building covered with graffiti. The shop’s solid metal door contains a single, small window too grimy to peer through.

You go inside, and dust motes rise up into the air. The interior is crammed with shelves containing all manner of near-valueless items, from small appliances to VR game consoles and jars of colored powders. The shop has the acrid smell of a reptile house that has not been cleaned in months.

A massive vesk in a muscle shirt stands at the rear of the shop, behind a low desk and a series of heavy metal bars anchored into the ceiling. Picture updated on map
He is carelessly disassembling an old computer and looks up briefly before returning to his work.

Hello all, I think I am going to have to recreate this campaign as that will be quicker. I am at a conference with work today so will try to do this tonight GMT. Appreciate your patience and I have asked the SFS to raise a formal complaint with the Aspis Consortium as this has, as Bones noted, their fingerprints all over it.

You take your badges and make your way through the crowds, over the tannoy are the warbling sounds of Strawberry Machine Cake -it seems there is no escape.

Laboni is easy to spot, probably because she is the most stressed looking person in the crowd. Wearing paisley clothes and bright white lab coat, she looks like she is in her late teens but should be at home eating her mamma's cookin'. She couldn't look any more out of her depth. She looks around furtively, and spots Kiylee towering over most of the crowd. She makes her way over.

Are you...are you here to help? Radaszam said he was sending some people to take care of me. I'm desperately hoping that doesn't mean 'take care of me' in the more final sense of the phrase. I really have put my foot in in with this Ratrod . She looks at you all

I'm sorry. Where are my manners? I'm Laboni, Chief Instigator of this mess and I would be every so grateful if you could all help me. I didn't mean it to get this far but my mouth shot off as always and now I'm worried. I mean, have you SEEN the other racers' cars and they are still working on them even this close to the race. Oh gosh, this is really baadd.... She trails off, floundering in her thoughts.

Your next steps:
You can each take four actions before the race. What you choose to do is up to you, but if you are stuck for ideas then consider the following:
1. Laboni's vehicle is pretty basic, at the moment but the Botscrap scrapyard is a mine of potential. Computers, Engineering, Perception and Physical Science are skills you can use to find components to install on Laboni's racer. All are DC16.
Components you find can be used as below:

• The vehicle’s base speed increases by 5 feet.
• The vehicle gains a +1 Piloting modifier.
• The vehicle gains a +1 attack modifier.
• The vehicle gains a +2 bonus to its EAC.
• The vehicle gains a +2 bonus to its KAC.
• Install a basic energy weapon on the vehicle (imposes a
–4 base Piloting penalty on a hit).
• Install a basic kinetic weapon on the vehicle (imposes a
–4 base Piloting penalty on a hit).
• Upgrade a weapon to impose an additional –2 penalty to
enemy Piloting checks on a successful hit

2. Laboni isn't going up against Ratrod on her own. There are other racers involved and we all have strengths and weaknesses, right? Engineering and Sense Motive could help you check out the competition's vehicles and motives. A successful DC15 will allow you ask a question about the pilot or their vehicle

3. You are in Botscrap - not exactly the most ethical place in Absalom. Who says all is fair in love and war? DC20 Stealth Check and a DC 15 Engineering Check are needed to sabotage an opponents racer - to either reduce speed or take a -4 hit to EAC or KAC.

4. You can socialise with other pilots. [ooc] This might include trash talking, making alliances, getting tips etc. The check will depend upon what you want to do.

There are five other pilots in the competition: Lemgem, Nyizin, Orsis, Ratrod, and Velocity. Let me know which one you are targeting/talking to

Prerace Actions - You each getfour actions. Feel free to grab a burger and dance along to Strawberry Machine Cake as you decide amongst yourselves your strategy in the 'Discussion Bar' on site. Unfortuantely, Ratrod has an iron constitution and will take part in the race, even if he has to wear a diaper....

Kiylee looks around but sees nothing of interest, clearly distracted by the crushing weight of the gravity. Meanwhile, Titus tries to reset the gravitometer but fails, and is presented on the screen with a talking paper clip, that says It looks like you are trying to reset gravity. Can I help?

Dyukela takes over and with a swift stroke of some key commands, the paper clip is gone for ever and gravity returns to normal, the pressure easing from your bodies instantly. It's then that Dyukela notices that the pot plant on the desk next to the monitor looked, for a split second, like it had moved.

Upon closer inspection, you realise that the pot plant isn't actually a plant at all, because it has small eyes that blink nervously as Dyukela stares at it.

What you have here, ladies and genetlmen, is a very nervous 'Shapeshifter', native to the Sun and capable of imitating anything in form. It's leaves shake in fear.

You've managed to reset gravity (Computers) and track the creature down (Perception). Dyukela has also rolled a successful survival skill so you can go ahead and handle the nervous pot plant ...

Apolgies for the delay folks. Was ill then travelling with poor internet

You make your way to the store where the Strawberry Machine Cake promo is in full swing. Hordes of squealing teenagers from all races line the streets around the store. From what you can see, there are a mix of races, a few Shirren, Ysoki and a whole bunch of human teenagers humming along. The entrance to the store is manned by two burly vesk who are keeping the giddy teenagers in order and letting a few in at a time. There is a coffee bar across the road.

You estimate that queuing will take around 6 hours to queue. Who wants to queue up?

Radaszam smiles at Cora I don't disagree and I like your attitude, but we live in a time where resources are thin, and where even the average might have a use. Laboni is lucky in that regard

He turns to Kaiole How you win the race is up to you. But know this, I don't take losing face lightly. Laboni won't be difficult to find, just follow the smell of stupidity, and she'l probably be in a lab coat, giving her an air of intelligence I doubt she possesses

After a few pleasantries about the breeding habits of tadpoles and political manoeuvrings in Absalom, you depart and make your way to
Ratrod’s racing circuit. It is a hollowed-out section of a mountain of spare parts in Botscrap, and the smell of ambition and diesel hangs heavy in the air. Already, the crowds are building.

You are met by a small drone that tells you to Press the Green Button on the drone's body for the rules if you want to know them.

Green Button:
Greetings fellow Petrolheads! This track has been specifically sanctioned by the ysoki-dominated Salvage Union that controls most of the yards.

The rules are simple. Racers and their pit crews are to build and improve their vehicles from the available scrap around the racetrack. Vehicles built at previous junkraces can return. Racers can fire upon other competitors during the race, but firing into the audience is grounds for immediate disqualification; racer weapons must be nonlethal and may affect only opponents’ vehicles. You may each take four actions before the race, which you may
use to improve Laboni’s vehicle or engage with the other racers. After this time, the race begins, although you
can still assist Laboni from the sidelines. If you are new to the Absalom racing scene, you may ask any further questions of this drone.

Blue Button:
The drone sighs... Why don't people just follow instructions?

The drone whirrs and a small compartment opens, revealing track-side access badges with your faces on and marking you as Laboni’s
official pit crew.

Dee, a lithe, tall android, takes the card from the strange little Ysoki, nods and smiles, hoping it'll pacify him into not forcing a conversation she doesn't want to have.

She walks up to the panel, the glow of the lights reflecting off her face. Hello Guidance She places her hand on it, fingers splayed, and doesn't even blink as the implant is buried in her palm. Next, she takes a swab and runs it along her lips, before placing it in a sterile jar.

Dee leans against a wall, observing and recording information on those around her.

Everyone, Redelia is sick and won’t check in today.

This means that I get to make an assignment! (Poor Redelia. She had no idea that I was going to do this.)

★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★

Hmm’s Assignment:

Tell me about one thing that another GM posted in a game that made you go... WOW! It can be anything from a clever short hand or an elegant transition to the smooth diffusion of a player argument.

Provide a link, and tell us what made the post one you remember. Positive examples only.

Hmm

Struggled a bit with this one, only because I haven’t played that much PbP but I wanted to share this post. It’s ‘only’ the GM explaining some rules to me about chronicle sheets but I thought it was great because the Adventure had finished and it would have been easy for the GM to go off and launch into something else. That he/she took the time to help a newbie like me helped a lot.

Long passage of text that GM wrote:
Hakak Urungai wrote:
GM (or anyone) - could you explain what I should do with the PFS chronical sheet? Are the items on there mine or are they shared with the group? DO I just add the GP to my character sheet?
Your chronicle sheets track your organized play progress and are used to keep track of XP, prestige, fame and gold in addition to boons earned and items found.

My advice would be to make a folder (digital, physical or even both) and sort and archive your chronicle sheets. The PbP community (and the VTT one) is not that stringent when it comes to presenting your chronicle sheets for inspection, but if you plan to play any IRL games, then it is in fact required that you bring all sheets attributed to the character you wish to play.
To deal with the more abstract nature of organized play, all items found during the adventure are sold, and each player gains a portion of the total gold earned (sorta, don't think to much about it). All items found that are not always available (see chapter 4 of the guide) are listed on the chronicle sheet and can at any later time be purchased by you without the usual limitations of your fame score (also explained in chapter 4).

Hakak Urungai wrote:
One more question - am I right that I can level up Hakak to level 2 once I have 3 XP? So, I could go and do another PFS adventure at level 1, get another XP?
Yes, every regular scenario gives you 1 XP (assuming nothing horrible happens), and you can always play a scenario that your character is the correct level for (the tiers are IIRC: 1, 1-2, 1-5, 3-7, 5-9, 7-11 and 12-15). Sanctioned modules give you a whopping 3 XP each, but they do (for most the most part) take much longer than standard scenarios, and their level ranges are also narrower and specific for each module.

You can also only have one chronicle sheet from a given scenario attributed to the same character (GM credit and replays can be a nightmare to keep track of if you, like me, have 30+ registered characters).

Lady Mayor, I am sure my colleagues and I would be happy to help and I shall leave the budgetary negotiations to others, although I would add that we have already contributed to the safety of Sandpoint with the slaying of the Black Fanged Dragon so you do know of our work. What interests me more is whether you could tell us a little of the Jade Serpent, whom you feel might have taken it, or at least a place for us to start. Should we prepare for any particular foe?
