Hmm, that's too bad. It's probably best though, I had created Darren with the idea of both scouting and fighting on a large scale battle field and not in confined spaces for long. Also as for not getting him written, I kept taking things for granted about the way the classes worked. I hadn't realized most of the things had changed with what you had given us. Since your still allowing it and since I know how it all works now, I think I'd like to give Sorok another try as I don't really have another character in mind.

It should be easy enough to write him out, what with him failing will saves so often. Since we came to a crossroads if it's possible he may just want to leave, or if another fight came up if he failed his will save against a fear effect and ran, nobody else in the party could catch him especially with using his path ability.

Should I still play him until that time?

Hearing Solvistania, Darren moves toward the statue. "I may be able to aid in this.

Darren let out a sigh of relief as the Spirits withdrew, then scowled as he noticed the bone deep chill where the child like spirits had hit him. He turns to Gilian.
"Nothing serious, though those spirits did leave their mark."

He then looks at Muni, and speaks in an almost apologetic tone of respect.
"I had thought of you as little more than a talking bird with visions of grandeur, but now I see that you truly are one of the ancestor spirits. This creature would be wise to not cross you."

Okay so it's a re-use of the 3.5 Cleave rules. Got it now. Would you like me to re-post or would you prefer to just move on with a description of much the same thing that happened to Duncan.

Darren, you are using the wrong Cleave. You haven't updated your character to new rules.

I've looked at all the class alterations added in the downloaded sections you gave me and I can't seem to find where I've gone wrong. I've made all the necessary changes to the classes and written it all down on my character profile.

I admit that when Darren attacked I made the mistake of writing it down as if assuming Darren had hit the first figure to continue cleaving through to the next but that was just to save time. If you would prefer, I can change my feat listing to that of having Whirlwind Attack in place of Cleave. It's an easy fix to the problem and wouldn't really change Darren's fighting style at all.

Also was there a change to the rules that I missed somewhere or are you just referring to the lists you gave me?

Before he could even take a step the ghostly figures of children had surged forward to crowd around Darren assaulting him with their warmth leeching grasp. With powerful movement the Dorn swung his blade in a circle hoping to catch them all.

Shaking himself free of the despairing thoughts, Darren turned his attention to the figures surrounding the group. Readying himself to spring at the first one to move into the ring of light.

Darren will hold his action to charge the first one he notices entering the circle. Unless told to do otherwise.

Okay, I got confused somewhere along the way. In my initial save I rolled a 1. My second roll should have been to confirm the fumble without Ilona's help. Which I did actually fail due to only getting a 14. Now here is my roll with Ilona's help.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Will Save1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 4 = 18 Right then, I guess I still failed the save, but did not fumble.

The Darkness was still calling to him, the pain of loss was still there, yet somehow the calming words of Ilona kept him from drowning in a sea of despairing thoughts.

How strange that she is able to continually pull me from overwhelming emotions and allow me to see the truth of things. Am I truly worthy of being called a Dornish warrior?

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Duncan's words pass over deaf ears as Darren continues to whisper to himself. Now completely oblivious to those around him.

Norther:
"The war against the Shadow is useless. Those who wield greater power have been unable to change anything. What can we possibly do.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Will save1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 add +2 if the effect is mind affecting.

The encircling shadows felt as though they were reaching out to Darren, calling to him to join them. Stories his father had told him of times long past, began to make their way to the forefront of his mind. He could see his peoples failures in the darkness, he could feel the pain of loss those stories told, and he could sense the doom they brought with them. He was lost in his memories, his voice came out barely above a whisper.

Norther:
"We failed. The pride and honor of the Dorns has failed, we are nothing more than a broken people fighting a losing battle. Father you have already been claimed by the Shadow, it is only a matter of time for the rest of us."

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Ilona's sharp tone cut through the Dorn's rising anger and the scarecrows declaration of passage brought him back to his senses. His hands dropped to his sides and he let out a sigh. Though he held on to his reservations of Sarcosans, Darren could not deny her words. He had nearly put them in all in danger.

Starting needless fights is pointless. I need to be in greater control of myself.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Darren's frustration shows as his breathing becomes an audible, rhythmic pattern and he reaches for his blade. His hand grasping the hilt, his words become hard as steel "This has gone on too long."

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

"She speaks the reason for all of us here."

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

I'd forgotten how awful the Dornish Covenant items were with their curses.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Darren's eyes dart between the scarecrow and the rest of the group muttering. "This is ridiculous."

"We can clearly see that you are a Fey.
Now open your eyes to let us through.
And we'll be on our way."

Diplomacy:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Darren lowered his blade while staring at the shadows, this was unlike anything he had seen before. The enemies he had faced had been ferocious but always the same always solid, tangible threats. Here in this strange world the very shadows would seemingly attack ones mind. He doubted however, that the group would be lucky enough to be set upon by only shadowy illusions of monsters.

I must stay vigilant against all dangers here.

Not bothering to put away his sword he motions for the group to continue.
"The swifter we are through these lands the better."

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

As Darren takes note of the strange creature, his eyes widen in surprise as he draws his blade and calls out in alarm in his northern tongue.

Norther:
"Beware, strange beasts come from the trees!!"

Darren looked around at the strangely dark landscape that the group now resided in. It was dark, foreboding, and lifeless. Truly he did not know where he was any longer. A feeling of hopelessness surrounded him and memories of the day his father left for the south stirred in his mind. The words of the Sarcosan woman brought him back to his senses and the memories faded but did not disappear. Brushing past the rest of the group he repositioned himself at the front at the edge of the light.
"Though I am unfamiliar with this... land. I will lead you as safely as I can."

He realized that the globe of light kept the murky darkness from taking them, but it was still there, waiting.

I agree 12 hours is a good time marker, with the exception of really big story moments. Does anyone have a problem with this?

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Okay so I don't really recall if this has been a topic of discussion before or not, but since it is not too much of an issue since we can just look at everyone's profile how does everyone feel if we have Nightflier roll our saves for us.

Darren moves to take his position near Duncan."I don't doubt your abilities in combat, but your armor will slow you down, more so due to the snow, if time is essential to the mission then I would say to exchange it for something lighter but that is your choice. I'm far more experienced with this sort of terrain than most of you, I will be our scout."

When most of her companions have agreed to the Snow request, she lets go of Solvi'arm, and looks at Duncan, drawing his attention. Her hand moves up to her sleeping child's head and her gaze moves from the child to the Snow and back.

Solvistania Elghreah wrote:

When Gilian touches her arm, she at first flinches then she relaxes as the touch of the healer acts as a soothing balm for her inner turmoil. "Thank you...Gilian." She looks at Duncan, "I agree with Gilian, this will be frough with danger, unsuitable for your...child" Her voice cracks a little at the end of her statement.

Gilian wrote:

Gilian sighs heavily."I don't like being wrong, but in this case, you are right. Despite all his qualities, Pebble is still a child, by elemental standards. and without guidance, I don't see what he could do that the elves could not."

Her shoulders sag a little under the weight of the decision she has to take. "I don't like being thorn between Alan and every one else. But you are right again, Pebble is much more usefull as a scout or in a battle than here. I've always known that someday, I would have to leave Alan behind to go back to this unfinished mission, but I had hoped that he would be old enough..." Tears flow freely on her face as she fights her maternal instincts.

Getting a grip on herself, she smiles through her tears and takes Duncan hand in hers. "Thanks for your vision and strength. Let's do it before I change my mind."

Gilian wrote:

Before joining her friends, Gilian takes the time to sit with Alan, explaining again what his father just said. Then taking him by the hand, she brings him to Aelia.

Unless someone has something else to say, then I believe we can move forward.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Does anyone have access to Honor and Shadow.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Now let's not get too ahead of ourselves here. Remember, the Order of the Shadow tracks down magic users not only by the spells they cast but also by the magical items they carry. Things like the bones you all had and Covenant items don't leave a magical residue, but as soon as things like magic swords, staffs and other permanently magical gear comes into play we're nothing more than giant blips on the radar. It's mostly why people in Erenland are afraid to be Channelers. The Elves and the Dwarves have it easier because they still have the battle lines drawn. Elves have it easier still because of their ability to utilize innate magic to a high degree and also their room to maneuver about relatively unhindered.

If we are going to try to be at all stealthy then choosing Craft Wondrous items, Magic arms and armor, Rod, Staff, and maybe Wand are all bad ideas. From what I can gather, Scribe scroll, Brew potion, and Craft spell talisman, and craft Charm are all okay. I say this mostly because in Midnight you need to not only have the proper feats but also find a Power Nexus that supports those feats in particular. Also you can carry scrolls and potions around and they won't set off an Astiraxes detect magic sweep until they are used.

I would personally say you shouldn't bother with Item Creation feats, but if you feel that you must, then I'd say go for Spell talisman or Scribe Scroll since Gilian has Brew potion. While it would be awesome to be front loaded with loads of magical gear, it sucks when the third wave of enemies we face have not only over 300 Orcs with Goblin skirmishers, Hobgoblin task masters, a large contingent of Legates but also a Dragon. Not to mention the possibility of Demons and Giants and other nasty creatures I can't think of right now.

Duncan Bloodforged wrote:

Duncan was silently listening all the while, but hearing one more time something he don't likes in young Dorns voice, he frowns a bit, and speaks up.

"I know that your people are proud, Dorn, and that there was always animosity between them and Sarcosans, but there is no need for such arrogance and dismissal of your future companions, for you know nothing of them, as you yourself said. I'm guessing that you were thrust into fighting for your life while you were still a bit more than a boy. So was I, my friend, and I also rode and fought with Roland for a while. You are still young and the Northern blood runs hot in you, but do not think that any of us is in any way below you, and do not speak about helping us as if it were a dull chore you are instructed to do, while other people are elsewhere fighting. If you just listen, you will realise that this might task and the people involved might be more important than any battle you have fought yet."

"I know little of you or your past struggles. You have fought against the Shadow, openly and defiantly. For that you stand as equals in my eyes not below. Yet you mistake the meaning behind my words. Roland is the heir to the Redgard throne, though he refuses the title of king until the day his lands are free of the Shadow, we of house Redgard still regard him as such. To fight along side him as you have is a great honor. To be tasked with a mission by one such as him is no small thing and regardless of how I feel about it, whether it is a dull chore or my hearts desire, it is my duty to my king and I will see it through to the end. I give you, all of you, my word as a member of house Redgard that so long as I draw breath I will aid you on your mission."

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Oh, yeah I guess that was it. I could have sworn it was Resurrection. Never mind then, scratch that last post.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

Something to think about, right now we have it that Ragnar died somehow while reviving Sky, right? One idea could be that while Ragnar was performing the ritual, which would have required the scroll of Resurrection to be used, that since the scroll was made in the time before the veil and was therefore a divine spell that it required a gods power. Only because there was no god to power it, it needed to pull the energy from somewhere. In this case Ragnar.

So if Nightflier and the relevant players are good with it and assuming that we don't mind the scroll being used, that can be one story for Ragnar's disappearance.

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

"I have answered your call for aid, and I will do what I can for these bone bearers. As for you raven." He turns to look at Muni."I have held my thoughts regarding what you have claimed to be. Animals who can speak are not so uncommon here, I fail to see how you could stand in for one of my fallen brethren. I know little of the Vigdir and have heard nothing of the Weavers or the pact you speak of. Our paths converge and I will aid because I was instructed to do so by Roland, I do not answer your call."

As Darren is challenged by the eagle, he turns to face the creature as he would any other and replies

High Elven:
"Do not take me lightly bird, for you will find yourself cut by my blade as many have before you... and more would after."

After listening to the conversation Darren addresses the group before him his tone as cold as that at the winter they had left outside the grove. "As intriguing as these tales of the discovery of lost cities and strange races might sound to young children, I don't see how they could help us here and I see nothing here I have not laid eyes on before. I know nothing of the bone bearers beyond the fact that you are addressed as such."

His tone softens a bit as he looks at Solvistania and Aealia. "The war against the shadow has taken much from all of us. To be consumed by the past is to lose sight of what is in front of us now."

His tone once again hardens. "Now, why have we been called here?"

After taking in the group before him, he calls out in an accented Erenlander tongue.
"You seem unfamiliar with this place, you should have little fear of attack for you are within sight of the gates of Aigeathir, the greatest of the snow elven citadels to stand against the Shadow. You are well within the defensive borders and can count yourselves among friends here."

Male Dorn Barbarian/Lv1, Wildlander/Lv1, Fighter/Lv3

That idea seems very intriguing to me. I can't even begin to count the number of times I sat there with character and was frustrated because the concept I had wouldn't work well because the skill set I wanted to choose wouldn't work with the number of skill points I was given, or because of a low intelligence modifier. Pathfinder has helped curb that quite a bit, but it was a glaring problem for 3.5.

This will help with character concepts without sacrificing our effectiveness. I say let's give it a try.

Honestly the skill endurance seems unnecessary. That's why we have things like fortitude and constitution checks. I agree with Gilian about the fusion of bluff/intimidate and the Sense motive, I'd vote to keep those separate. The rest is okay though.

You are OK, except equipment part. You can not begin the game with cloak and boots of elvenkind. Only perishable magic items and only those that you can make with appropriate feats and skills.

Your background is rather nice and you get a bonus feat for it.

What role have you envisioned for yourself? What are your goals? I need to know that in order to design your path. As an alternative, you can take a heroic path from Midnight books if you feel that is suits what you have in mind for the character better than what I could come up with.

Right, equipment changed, feat gained. The role I had envisioned for my character was a heavy offensive unit, but not one that necessarily used right away. His strategy is either to wait in ambush until he finds the prime target in an opposing force i.e. Legates, obvious commanders and using his speed to rush passed defenders and attack until they're dead then escape, while using guerrilla tactics or he hangs back during combat awaiting enemy support units, usually archers or spell casters and hit them hard during the confusion of combat before joining the front lines. If he's forced into standard melee he usually attempts to escape to come back later using hit and run tactics.

His goals are to deal as much damage to the shadows army as possible, to restore the lost honor of the Dorns and their ancestors by slaying as many of the traitor princes as he can, then finally to meet the false king of Erenland, Jahzir, on the field of battle and slay him to spit in the eye of the dark god.

Since we are beginning tomorrow, I'll save you the trouble of creating me a Heroic Path and use the Quickened Path.

So here's my unfinished post for my replacement for Sorok. I'm really angry because I just spent the last 3 hours finishing him only to try and save and have Paizo erase everything I just fixed/wrote. His backstory was pretty huge and when I write it again it probably won't be nearly so in depth or well explained. Grrrr.
