I probably need to apologize in advance for any potential harshness in my posts for the next little bit.

We just got home from a two-week emergency trip to hospital with my wife and her family. She lost her mother to pneumonia (and to complications from that illness). She was an amazing and good person, and I'll just leave it at that.

So if my posts get a little terse and less understanding, please know that it is not intentional....this Dalesman is just all out of Diplomacy right now.

[EDIT]: Though I guess I still can find my weird sense of humor, looking at my in-game post. I'll just take that as a good sign, neh? (^-^)

Jeran shook his head. "Don't worry about it. It's not like I expect people to tiptoe around me in order to not upset me. I only brought it up myself because I wanted to express that my information was out of date. And will probably only get more out of date. There's no place for me among the other lycans, and truth be told, I don't want one. I'll leave the whole reforming the system thing to Jaiye since she seems to have grabbed the idea and run with it." He shrugged. "I like what I do now. Being a pilot, helping people, protecting them, training new recruits. All of it. I could maybe do with a personal life that didn't look like a wreck, but nobody gets everything," he said with a quick smile to show that he was mostly joking.

"It is your calling, and you are very good at 'all of it', as you say. As to the latter - remember that there is always another dawn," Fei answers simply, then changes the subject out of respect for his friend's feelings on the matter.

Jeran Darkclaw wrote:
"Anyhow, you probably impressed them or something. You do that a lot more than you notice. Besides, your uh, diplomatic skills may be warranted. I mean, unless Jaiye and that elf prince guy, the one who doesn't talk, I can't remember his name..., anyhow, unless they broke up in the last week or so while I was busy with other stuff, she's likely to be going too right? So maybe you've been invited for your ability to make interesting situations slightly more dull?"

The young monk ponders Jeran's last words for a few seconds, looking at him appraisingly.

"His name is Ehos. And I did not know that my talent for 'dulling things down' was so well-known. I should probably thank Keme for spreading such tales about me," he finally responds with a wide, self-deprecating smile across his face. (^-^)

The halfling doctor chuckles as he hops off the ramp and walks over to Fei, his coat snapping sharply behind him in an effort to keep up.

"That was a rhetorical question, my boy," he says with an affable smile. "We'll need to schedule some counseling sessions to work on that sense of humor, eh?" :D

"Now, on to business" the good doctor continues before Fei can respond to that. "The information you sent up to us was about as detailed as I could ever hope to get, so I've got a pretty good idea of what we need to do here. We've had to pull several of our field teams back to the Harbinger in the last few months thanks to...recent events. That may work out perfectly for the folks here and at your school, though, because that means I finally have a surplus of people and equipment. Seems only fair that I put them back to work, am I right?"

"Anywhoo - I'm sending a team up to Avalon to help bolster up the staff there, and I'm going to head up the crew here at the Kuros hospital (at least until things are running smoothly). Given what my folks have seen and dealt with, I can safely say we're not going to have any more people quitting on you."

"And don't worry - I didn't forget about the counseling thing. I've got a team of folks here to help with that at both locations. I know, you didn't mentions the need at Avalon, but I always try to carry spares, if you know what I mean." ;)

"Okay - great talk!! Let me get this show on the road, and I should have everything up and running before you can even have a lewd thought about the cheerleading team. We'll have to do lunch sometime - peace out!!!"

And with that, the unflappable halfling hops up on a passing transport and starts calling out orders to his medical teams. Like a well-oiled machine, the mass of vehicles splits into two groups and rumbles off toward their destinations.

Tamrin was finally making his way to the Infirmary (to relieve the staff of the 'burden' of dealing with his ever-active wife) when he was brought to a halt by something that commands his full attention.

He stood there for a few long seconds, then strode forward with a purpose and locked himself in the first empty room he could find. From somewhere on his person he produced a large book with well-traveled yet still sturdy bindings, a worn metal seal with two crossed Casters centered on the front cover. Placing it on a table, he quietly spoke a word and then opened the tome.

The pages in front of Tamrin showed columns of names, written in different colors of ink. Most were a dark brown, the ink somewhat faded with time. As he turned the pages, the names took on more of a russet hue, slightly brighter than their predecessors. When he came to the last page, there were only a few names on it, but the last two stood out from all the others. They were written in a brilliant scarlet ink - so fresh that it still looked wet on the page in the room's light.

He stared down at the names, leaning forward to place both hands on the table. His normally easy-going features were now a mixture of shock and despair...and then quickly devolved into rage as he yelled out and threw the table over. The book, surprisingly undamaged in the violent outburst, landed softly on the floor with its pages still facing up.

After staring at the pages for several minutes, Tamrin finally leaned over and snatched the tome back from the floor, slammed it shut and stowed it before leaving the room.
