I agree that one doesn't just "pick up" a level of sorcerer. Sorcery is not a learned skill - that is the whole point of sorcery. Any character might have something in her background that could manifest at any time as "a level dip into sorcerer". Let the player find a good story line and go with it.

I would say exactly the same about the oracle class. The gods might pick anyone to be an oracle. The player might not even need a story lime beyond, "Aaaah!! What's happening to me?! I suddenly can't walk as fast as I could yesterday, but somehow I can do magic!"

Anyhow, that`s probably way too many words than somebody who wrote 3 words `that sounds awful` deserves in response.

I would like to think that I deserve as many words as you wrote.

I did not start this thread, but I probably gleaned more than the original poster.

This character was created as a barbarian with the intent to become a barbarian/sorcerer. But I scuttled that plan with the release of the magus class, which is what I wanted in the first place. I would either abandon the character or plan a different future.

I think your post refers to the rage power "Roused Anger", which allows the barbarian to rage while fatigued. Either option would allow the barb. to cast a spell "while raging" but at a cost. In one case, the price is a wasted round of rage. In the other case, the cost is 10 minutes of exhaustion rather than 2 rounds of fatigue (per round of rage).

That sounds awful.

Please, I am curious about why this is awful. If there is a good reason to avoid this, I would like to know. The whole point of MoC is the ability to do something like this. If the barbarian ended his rage to cast a spell, he would be fatigued for a number of rounds and so unable to rage again.

I had originally planned to multiclass into Sorcerer (Fire Elemental), then into Oracle (Flame) with this barbarian. But after reading this thread, maybe Dragon Disciple is the way to go! Sounds like lotsa fun.

I'll have to read up on DD.

Sazzle thanks you all.

(Hey, you'ld have anger issues too if your idiot parents had named you Sazzle)

We are lucky. Our GM is not out to make our characters' lives short or unpleasant. Neither does he run a "Monty Haul" campaign, where first-level characters find "+7 full plate of resist everything" after killing three kobolds. He approaches the game with the aim of collective storytelling. Sometimes characters get valuable mundane or magic items. Sometimes characters may die. We will just have to see how things unfold.
