As Drasven gets closer to the table to take a look he believes that these are tools less to torture and more to... ah.. perform surgery. Though surgery of the dark arts not something that would be used for the purposes of healing, more for experimentation.

Ro is quite sure that this poor soul was some sort of two-headed bipedal creature, perhaps human. There may be additional bones here as well whether the bones were from another being or whether this was the skeleton of some sort of mutated creature is not clear. Regardless, the existence of this being came to a most gruesome end if it was alive prior to being brought to this place.

Who wants to grab that key/tool?

The surgical tools on the tables are exquisitely made, however, what catches Karmid's eye sitting on the easternmost table is an object that, upon closer examination, isn’t a tool at all.

It appears to be a silverand-gold seven-pointed star; one surface is studded with nodules and blades, and the other features a thin, curved handle.

The door to this room swings open with ease, no creaks or slowness from age, a well build hinge to be sure, the room contains three low tables, their tops covered with a strange and chilling selection of tools, saws, long-bladed knives, and objects whose purpose is not readily apparent. A strange collection of bones lies near the southern table—too many to be one skeleton, but too few to be two.

Shadow's Status

The area is completely silent. The floor it turns out is solid enough to walk on but makes it clear that this dungeon has sustained damage from some sort of natural occurrence. All three sets of double doors are firmly locked as you walk the perimeter, none appear trapped, though the hall before did not appear trapped either! The southern lock appears magical in nature while the others have some give, this one has no give at all.

Shadow's Status

Thistletop

Dungeon Level 2

Ro inserts one gold coin in each slot causing the pillars to noisily grind down into the floor! As the pillars recede, the illusion fades the gold pillars are actually stone pillars.

The area beyond is quiet, the floor has spiderweb cracks in it indicating that whatever long ago event took place here had an impact on the structure of this lair.

To the north, east, and the south are three sets of double doors.

More of the map is revealed.

If Matrim had to guess, and he does, he would guess they were coin slots. The question is, what type of coin should be placed in the slot?

Shadow's Status

Nothing that Jil has collected detects as magical Uldar.

Kyrie grins looking very excited, "A lot of this stuff is the stuff that Nualia would not let me take a look at, I am happy to help when we get back to Sandpoint".

Matrim finds no trap and no locks on this door. It opens to a large hallway.

The southern wing of this L-shaped hallway ends at a pair of stone doors carved with the depictions of two skeletons reaching out to clutch a skull between them, while to the east the hallway narrows down to frame a circular carving of what seems to be an immense stack of tens of thousands of gold coins that rises from floor to ceiling. The edges of these coins are carved with tiny, spiky runes.

Perception DC 25:
To the left and right of the circular carving are tiny, coin-sized slots. Beyond this pillar it seems that there is a hollow space but how to open it?

Shadow's Status

Thistletop

Matrim agrees with Uldar;'s assessment of what the lever for release should be and he pulls it down, you hear nothing but you cannot be sure until you step on the floor whether the trap is deactivated.

While you could piece together Nualia's plan, many of the notes are in scrawl in her handwriting and utilize a cipher of two or three languages. It would take a day, perhaps longer to organize and understand all of this data.

Shadow's Status

Karmid, did you cross that floor already or wait for Uldar to hit the lever releasing the... nevermind :-)

Shadow's Status

Uldar lands on the far side with simple grace, he turns the corner and enters the room from whence these Hounds were released.

Wide stone ledges of red marble line the curving walls of this room, which is well lit by four burning skulls that sit in each corner. Three chairs rest in the room, and both stone ledges are covered with old books, scrolls, teeth, bones, scrimshaw artwork, jars of deformed creatures soaking in brine, taxidermied animals and limbs, and other strange objects. To the north, a large round fountain filled with frothy blue water fills the room with the gentle sound of bubbling.

A search of the area to immediate right of the door reveals a panel that slides away and lo and behold, there is the release for the trap, or at Uldar is pretty sure that's what it is...

Knowledge Religion DC 20:
The objects on the shelves are various holy texts, scrolls, relics, and objects sacred to the worship of Lamashtu.

Knowledge Arcana DC 13:

The Yeth runs the gauntlet and by the time Matrim plunges his blades into the creature, it has expired.

After about 10 more minutes, the gates raise once more and all is silent. Kyrie speaks, "I guess the release is in there somewhere but I would not step on that section of the floor again".

Who wants to make the Acrobatics check to land on the other side and search the far room?

As Karmid offers to handle the situation and just looks awkward in setting up for hi initial leap, Ro raises her hand and speaks, "Hang on, just stay where you are Karmid. Matrim, go ahead and join the others over on the other side. I've got this." I hope.

"Don't step on the plate yourselves, the shiny part there." Ro points the unusually shiny portion of the floor out to everyone again just in case.

"Hopefully the trap will do the work for us, but be ready with your weapons in case things go sideways. And back up enough to give me space over there. I'll be coming at you very fast and will need a place to land."

Matrim leaps over the space with ease and the Godtouched move back to give Ro the room she needs to jump.

She pads to the door and opens it enough to allow them out but not enough that they don't have to put at least a little effort into nuzzling it open with their noses before giving chase.

Give chase they do! As Ro heads towards the area where the pressure plates activate the Yeth Hounds tear ass after her!

Ro leaps with one right on her tail, that one triggers the trap.

Uldar is sure that the proper tools do not exist to slow down or stop the portcullis, at least not with the Godtouched, it would be the pressure plate that needs to be disabled.

Matrim attempts to disable the pressure plate, this time he is not sure if he was successful or not...

Kyrie whispers back to Lia, "Not sure, some kind of Demon I think".

Do you follow Flutter's suggestion or something else?

Karmid metes out long overdue and well deserved punishment to Nualia. At her death throes, the hounds to the north bay, it seems they heard, or smelled, or sensed their mistresses death.

Kyrie lets out a breath, "Whew, I was hoping you all would do that, she's relentless and would have pursued your deaths again if she could have".

Ro discovers a southern hallway to her right, not a long one only 10' which leads to yet another door.

Just as nerves reach their frayed end in the debate over the execution of Nualia, the portcullis slowly rises...

Nualia shakes and sizzles as electricity courses through her, instead of screaming and dying though she moans with pleasure, "Mmmmm Lia, untie me and let's do that again..." She licks her lips in delight.

Matrim ascertains that neither door is trapped. He also realizes that the only way to open this portcullis is by opening that damned door...

The portals still have not moved.

Shadow's Status

"Slay me then, Heroes. Tiled up like this I am sure your Gods will look upon you all kindly the next time you ask for prayers!" Again, she giggles as if she is deranged and she probably is.

Flutter, outstanding roll. You deduce that the release is likely in the northern room based upon the construction of the dungeon level and the fact that Nualia left her pets back to guard it. That is where Matrim and Ro will have to go to trigger the release. It may well reset itself but when is not clear, the glaives are still swinging though.

Shadow's Status

Thistletop

Dungeon Level 2

Eyes bloodshot Nualia gigles softly, "It will reset itself in a few minutes. There is a release but you will have to find it yourselves..."

Ro and Matrim cannot find the release for the trap in the hallway, it must be behind the doors but which one is not clear.

Drasven determines that the lift on this would be tough indeed, the gate may lock into place beneath the floors. It would take a Giant or Titan to push this portcullis back up.

Karmid still cannot budge the portcullis.

Kyrie shrugs, "Like I said, I've not been down here, we always sent the Bugbear down to deal with her. This is niot a place I want to be in for long. I'm only here now because... well... I would rather help you and then leave of my own volition than have you try and drag me before some tribunal like a criminal".

Shadow's Status

Thistletop

Dungeon Level 2

Ro and Matrim hear the sounds of something attempting to batter down the door to their north, the door is too solid though and soon enough the attempts cease though the yowls and howls remain.

Ro sees no trigger to disarm the trap from this hallway.

Karmid is unable to lift the portcullis, it is simply too heavy.

Ro and Matrim, do you want to explore alone and try and find a release or wait it out and see what happens?

Shadow's Status

Both Ro and Matrim manage to roll forward prior to two portcullis' slamming down onto the space they just occupied! Second later a pair of glaives slashes the area once, then twice. Thereafter, the floor opens into a spiked pit 10' below!

That was one of the nastiest traps either had heard of, much less seen.

It is doubtful any of you could have survived that...

At the moment though, Ro and Matrim are on the wrong side of a pit. Behind you both from beyond the closed doors you hear the growls of at least one if not two creatures.

Matrim is quite sure he has disarmed that pesky trap!

This short hallway rises in a slope to the east. Five feet from the western door, the floor is polished and shiny, unlike the dusty floor elsewhere. A pair of stone statues depicting stern men wielding glaives stand in alcoves north and south of this section of the hallway. At the eastern end stand two stone doors, their faces carved with strange runes. Just past the doors is a third alcove in which a partially collapsed statue sits. The top half of the statue is missing, leaving behind a ragged stump of a torso.

Shall I assume that Ro and Matrim proceed?

With the exception of a Goblin revel that goes on all night long until what you assume is the morning, the night passes by uneventfully. Likely the Goblins are celebrating what they believed to be the invasion of Sandpoint but have instead unknowingly celebrated their own "liberation" from Nualia's influence. Lyrie organizes the documentation on the table and agrees to translate it all for you once the group returns to Sandpoint.

Nualia is disturbed all night by those on watch, bound and gagged as she is there is not much she can do but glare daggers at her captors. If looks could kill it is clear you would all be dead, she especially seems hateful of Lyrie, perhaps she assumed a mercenary scholar to be too loyal to her cause.

Well rested, the GodTouched once more take the stairs down to the final dungeon level where the hallway still beckons them forward...

Marching order?

Shadow's Status

Thistletop

Dungeon Level 2

Kyrie shrugs, "Nualia was not one to divulge.

There is a lot of documentation in these ruins written in Thassilonian that she needed me to decipher. You likely passed on it upstairs when you went through the document room. That's why I was hired. As far as what is down here, again I do not know. Nualia or no Nualia, I do not believe the Goblins come down here.

I would not worry about Orik talking to any Goblins, he is a mercenary and probably just walked the hell out of this place, once he has packed his gold of course.

As far as a safe place to rest I suppose the document room could be safe, all doors could be barred but I would set a watch.

True enough about Nualia and the Goblins though, without her they would likely just attack us if they thought they could beat us..."

Lyrie takes her wand back and grins weakly, "Nice to meet you Lia, I am sorry about hurting you...

Runelords? Well, I am a Thassilonian scholar but of arcana and architecture. So less about the Runelords themselves and more about what they created via their power". Lyrie nods to Ro and stands up heading down the stairs.

Lyrie looks down the hall, "I've not been down there but whatever down there is not good that I can tell you".

What is the marching order? It seems Nualia lives, for now.

Shadow's Status

Lyrie shares the potion and sits on the stairs, "So what is your story, Lia right?"

Ro looks down the hallway from where Nualia came, the tunnel is dark and has a alcove both north and south about 20' in, it runs another 20' or so thereafter where she can see doors that head both north and south. At the end of the hall is yet another ruined statue.

Drasven finds with magical sight that Nualia's Bastard Sword, Armor (Breastplate), and Medallion glow with magic. Her longbow is likely compound and masterwork. Her holy symbol is solid gold. She has no other belongings upon her except a quiver with 19 arrows, none of which are magical.

Kill her or tie her up? Keep going or exit the Dungeon?

Orik yells out from under the din, "I surrender, I'm not getting paid enough to die down here lady!"

Karmid was Disabled at Zero Hit Points after he made the save vs. Nualia's Quickened Channel.

A character with 0 hit points, or one who has negative hit points but has become stable and conscious, is disabled. A disabled character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can he take full-round actions, but he can still take swift, immediate, and free actions). He moves at half speed. Taking move actions doesn’t risk further injury, but performing any standard action (or any other action the GM deems strenuous, including some free actions such as casting a Quicken Spell spell) deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. Unless the action increased the disabled character’s hit points, he is now in negative hit points and dying.

So Karmid attacked with a standard action, then fell to negative 1 HP.
