Traits
Arcane temper (magic)
Although he chose a different path in following his spiritual calling, his studies at the Greyfeather Institute gave Cirandiu a solid grounding in arcane magic theory and practice. The lessons learned here in terms of the importance of preparedness, focus and control are equally applicable to those who practice divine magic.

Betrayed: reformed criminal) (campaign)
Cirandiu has no memory of life from before he was one of Lamm’s Lambs. As an orphan taken in by someone who would give him food and shelter, he worked in accordance with his master’s directives. Since escape and no longer reliant on whatever was necessary to survive, the young boy learned right from wrong and has devoted his life to both his goddess and to helping those less fortunate than himself, especially children.

Birthmark (faith)
Core to Cirandiu’s beliefs and personality is that he has been blessed with extraordinary luck by Pulura. All evidence seems to support this as he does indeed seem to be smiled upon by those who control fortunes. The birthmark on his shoulder in the shape of the MIstress of the Stars’ celestial bear envoy is a physical manifestation of this divine favour.

Drawback
Scarred
Cirandiu has a prominent scar down the left side of his face after the attack by the Creeper Sczarni gang when he was a teenager. Although it has faded a bit over the years and he tries to hide it somewhat with a beard, it remains clearly visible. It doesn’t seem to detract too much from his good looks but at first glance it does mark him out as someone to potentially be wary of, though when given a chance he’s usually able to overcome this initial prejudice through his good-hearted nature and enthusiasm.

Good
Touch of Good (Sp): You can touch a creature as a standard action, granting a sacred bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws equal to half your cleric level (minimum 1) for 1 round. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Luck
Bit of Luck (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, giving it a bit of luck. For the next round, any time the target rolls a d20, he may roll twice and take the more favourable result. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Abilities:
--------------------
Abilities
--------------------
Fey foundling
Your strange connection to the First World and the fey infuses you with life, and whenever you receive magical healing, you heal an additional 2 points per die rolled. You gain a +2 bonus on all saving throws against death effects. Unfortunately, you also suffer +1 point of damage from cold iron weapons (although you can wield cold iron weapons without significant discomfort).

Weapon and armour proficiency
Blossoming light clerics are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any armour or shields.

Separatist clerics do not gain proficiency in their deity’s favoured weapon (though they are not prohibited from using it or learning its use).

Aura
A cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the deity’s alignment (see detect evil for details).

Channel energy (Su)
Regardless of alignment, any cleric can release a wave of energy by channelling the power of her faith through her holy (or unholy) symbol. This energy can be used to cause or heal damage, depending on the type of energy channelled and the creatures targeted.

A good cleric channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures.

Channelling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centred on the cleric. The amount of damage dealt or healed is equal to 1d6 points of damage plus 1d6 points of damage for every two cleric levels beyond 1st (2d6 at 3rd, 3d6 at 5th, and so on). Creatures that take damage from channelled energy receive a Will save to halve the damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the cleric’s level + the cleric’s Charisma modifier. Creatures healed by channel energy cannot exceed their maximum hit point total—all excess healing is lost. A cleric may channel energy a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. This is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. A cleric can choose whether or not to include herself in this effect.

A cleric must be able to present her holy symbol to use this ability.

Variant channelling (Su)
When you create a cleric character, decide whether she uses the standard form of channel energy or a variant presented here based on one aspect of her deity's portfolio. Once this choice is made, it cannot be altered. Variant channelling has the same area of effect, save DCs, uses per day, and other rules relating to channelling energy. Feats and abilities that modify or present alternative uses for channelled energy (such as Command Undead and Turn Undead) work normally with these variant channelling abilities.

A variant channelling either modifies positive channelled energy when used to heal or modifies negative energy when used to harm. When using positive energy to heal, affected creatures gain only half the normal amount of healing but also receive a specific beneficial effect. When channelling negative energy to harm, affected creatures take only half the normal damage but take an additional penalty or harmful effect; a successful saving throw negates the additional penalty or effect but does not reduce the damage any further. Creatures that would normally ignore the effect of a particular channel (such as undead with respect to a positive energy channel used to heal) ignore the variant effect of that channel.
Some variant channelling abilities are enhanced when used on particular creature types. Such channelling increases the normal healing or damage from channelled energy by 50% for that creature type, rather than the default half healing or damage for the alternative channelling. For example, a 7th-level cleric normally heals 4d6 points of damage with channelled positive energy; with the Nature alternative channelling, that cleric instead heals only half that amount (2d6) when channelling, but heals animals and fey an additional +50% over the unhalved value (4d6 + 50%).

Unless otherwise stated, bonuses granted by a variant channelling are sacred bonuses if you channel positive energy or profane bonuses if you channel negative energy. If an alternative channelled energy provides a “channel bonus” on rolls or statistics, the bonus is +1, increasing to +2 at cleric level 5 and for every 5 cleric levels thereafter (to a maximum of +5). Likewise, a “channel penalty” is initially –1, increasing to –2 at cleric level 5 and every 5 cleric levels thereafter (to a maximum of –5).

Luck: Heal: Creatures gain a channel bonus or a luck bonus (creature's choice) on one roll (attack roll, CMB check, saving throw, or skill check) made before the end of your next turn.

Spontaneous casting
A good cleric can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

Bonus languages
A cleric’s bonus language options include Celestial, Abyssal, and Infernal (the languages of good, chaotic evil, and lawful evil outsiders, respectively). These choices are in addition to the bonus languages available to the character because of her race.

Forbidden rites
A separatist cleric selects one domain from her deity’s domain list, and a second domain that is not on her deity’s domain list. This second domain cannot be an alignment domain that doesn’t match the cleric’s or her deity’s alignment. For example, a lawful good separatist cleric of a neutral good deity cannot choose the Chaos or Evil domain with this ability, but can select the Lawful domain even though her deity isn’t lawful.

Granted powers from the cleric’s second domain function as if the cleric’s level, Wisdom, and Charisma were 2 lower than normal (minimum level 1) in terms of effect, DC, and uses per day. This also means the separatist doesn’t gain the domain’s higher-level ability until 2 levels later than normal. If the second domain grants additional class skills, the separatist gains these as normal.

In all other respects, this ability works like and replaces the standard cleric’s domain ability.

Promise of Faith
A blossoming light cleric vows to trust in her deity’s protection over arms and armour. He is not proficient with any armour or shields. The blossoming light cannot use or benefit from any of her class features (including spellcasting) while wearing armour or using a shield, or for 1 minute thereafter.

This ability alters the cleric’s armour proficiencies.

Promise of purity
A blossoming light cleric must be truly pure of heart. He must be good-aligned and worship a nonevil deity. If the blossoming light willfully commits an evil act, he loses all class features (including spellcasting) until he atones.

This alters the cleric’s alignment.

Luminous font (Su)
A blossoming light cleric forsakes his deity’s deeper mysteries to focus on benevolence, healing, and bringing light to darkness. A blossoming light still selects domains and retains access to domain powers, but does not gain domain spell slots. Blossoming lights are beacons of goodness, guiding others to follow their own best natures. A blossoming light adds half his level on Diplomacy checks against good creatures or to convince an evil creature to take an action against its evil nature.

A blossoming light’s channel energy is usable a number of times per day equal to 5 + his Charisma modifier. At 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter, the blossoming light gains an additional use per day of channel energy.

At 3rd level, when a blossoming light channels energy to harm undead, his channelled energy also harms chaotic evil outsiders, worshipers of chaotic evil deities, and evil creatures with light sensitivity or light blindness as if they were undead.

At 7th level, when a blossoming light channels energy, he can expend an additional use to fill the affected area with bright light (as per daylight) for a number of rounds equal to his cleric level.

At 10th level, a blossoming light can use atonement once per day as a spell-like ability, but only to offer redemption to others (as per the spell). Using the spell in this way does not require a focus or material component.

This ability alters channel energy and the cleric’s domains.

Appearance:
An even six feet in height, Cirandiu is a trim, rather than muscular, man, kept fit by long hours working at the orphanage. Mid-length black hair thickly shot through with silver, and a better beard than many Varisians can grow that is more salt than pepper, frame a handsome angular face. Kind green eyes stare back at you from this face, years younger than the premature greying would suggest, sizing you up.

Most striking of all is the prominent scar that runs from just above the left eyebrow down to his jaw. a permanent reminder of the Sczarni assault on the mystery cult during his time in Magnimar. Although it has faded somewhat over the years, it’s a clear reminder and arguably the first thing that someone sees to look at.The beard is partly to hide and draw attention away from it, not altogether successfully. Ultimately it doesn’t detract from his good looks; perhaps, in a weird way, actually enhancing them.

Less visible - it being on his right shoulder, after all - but more importantly, he also has a Varisian birth tattoo in the shape of a bear’s head ringed by stars. This mark of Pulura is a sign of the Empyreal Lord’s favour and the starting point for Cirandiu’s journey into her faith.

He is usually garbed in the midnight blue robes of a lay priest, the colour sacred to the Mistress of the Stars. Silver thread in the pattern of numerous constellations embellish these vestments. Like many Varisians, Cirandiu has a variety of colourful accessories but most commonly accentuates his dress with a pink scarf in his breast pocket, a token from his love, and an orange bangle around his left ankle for good fortune and success. His clothing combines practicality with the messages he wants to convey about who he is as a person and what he values.

Personality:
Cirandiu is an easygoing, warm and enthusiastic individual so he tends to look for the best in people. Always happy to give the benefit of the doubt, he is genuinely interested in others for their own sake, not for what he can get out of them. As a result he is a good listener and people tend to instinctively trust him, which makes it easy for others to rub along well with him. This is useful for anyone who may initially hesitate or perceive him as dangerous due to his prominent scar and some of the prejudices that can be directed towards Varisians.

Although he has spent periods of time alone on the road across the towns and villages of southern Varisia, he is generally happiest around people. More importantly, perhaps, the thing he values most of all is home. While he would accept that in many ways this could be wherever the right people are, in reality that means one place above all: Korvosa, the city exerting a powerful pull on him even during his periods away.

He believes good relationships are essential for a well-lived life and underpin everything. Family, in particular, comes first, which as an orphan means the one Cirandiu has chosen for himself. In particular he values deep bonds, such as his love for Nemniana, the respect and warmth he has for his adoptive father, and the many friendships he has accumulated over the years, including his time at the Greyfeather Institute. His friendly nature has allowed him to cultivate positive relationships with a lot of people and can pick them up easily even after extended periods. While some of these are shallower bonds and perhaps more transactional, that’s not how Cirandiu generally sees them. Instead he looks upon them as always having the potential for more.

A natural optimist, Cirandiu is one of life’s cheerleaders. He laughs easily and loudly, enough so that it can attract attention even in a packed room. Although he likes most people and is equally well-liked in return, Cirandiu is usually the glue that holds a group together rather than a leader. He probably has the qualities to be a decent one and people likely would listen to and follow him, but he has no real desire to seek positions of authority.

Faith, too, plays a central role in his life due to his close personal connection with Pulura and he tries to live out his life to model her teachings, including aiding travellers, comforting the lonely, and celebrating and teaching a love of the night sky and the cosmos. Cirandiu strongly believes that he has a divine gift of luck and that this should be shared. He is therefore always happy to volunteer and aid others where he can. Occasionally his desire to help leads him to intervene in situations where his assistance is unwanted but he’s generally able to talk his way out without ruffling too many feathers. His faith is the one area where he can occasionally be a touch overzealous and serious. His belief that he is divinely blessed is core to him so anyone questioning that is potentially poking at one the central pillars of his life. Like most people, he doesn’t take too kindly to this.

Despite the hardship of his first decade of life, Cirandiu does not see himself as an unfortunate victim. Quite the opposite, in fact, he considers himself to be incredibly lucky in that he has found his calling in life and forged strong, loving relationships. Having been at the sharp end of things through both his personal experience and his work, he is not naive in how tough things can be for people or in how self-centred some people are. Nor is he unaware of his good fortune, which is why he tries to use it to do good and help others as best he can. He understands that while he may have transgressed, as a child he was not to blame for the decisions and actions of the adults who controlled his life and has made his peace with his past.

The same charity does not necessarily extend to those whose actions he views as morally wrong. Unfairness, injustice, and cruelty, especially against children or those unable to help themselves will all provoke a strong reaction in him and a desire to help and set things right,
Cirandiu’s positive outlook and easy manner means that he would generally prefer to solve problems peacefully but he knows that this isn’t always realistic. He’s generally philosophical and balanced about things, showing wisdom and empathy when reflecting on how things could be different even if the outcome is not that one he desires. For example, although his relationship with the Cosmic mystery cult in Magnimar is somewhat cool, he understands their actions and doesn’t bear them any grudges. However, for those like Gaedram Lamm who frequently transgress and refuse to mend their ways he’s happy to take matters into his own hands.

He also worries about people who are lonely and unhappy, offering them succour where he can and hoping to help them find the relationships that would improve their lives in the way that he values such relationships in his own life. Bad things befalling the people he loves would be Cirandiu’s worst fear, especially if he himself is helpless and unable to do anything about it.

Backstory:
What does it mean to be born lucky? A gambler may utter a prayer to the gods when they win at dice, a farmer when their crops deliver a bumper harvest, and anyone may invoke their name in the case of a fortuitous event. But what if one truly was blessed by the divine in such a way that manifested itself in the form of good fortune? Cirandiu Florean believes himself to be one such individual, touched by the hand of Pulura, Mistress of the Stars. And while luck doesn’t make up part of her portfolio, it is hard to refute his assertion: Cirandiu is able to bless himself and others with fortune and favour, as well as appearing to be in the good graces of the Shimmering Maiden.

Cirandiu’s origins are unknown and he has no recollection of life prior to his service on behalf of Gaelan Lamm on the streets of Korvosa. In return for a roof over his head and food in his belly he worked for the local crimelord. Never much of a footpad or cutpurse, there has always been a touch of the fey to him so his natural charm meant the young boy was an excellent distraction. And fortune always smiled upon him, his silver tongue, good sense and plain old-fashioned luck meant he invariably avoided trouble with the authorities.

However, even the lucky streaks of the fortunate must come to an end. During a theft at the Bookmaker bookshop, Cirandiu’s charm for once failed him and he was apprehended by a patron while his accomplices all scarpered. In reality though, this turned out to have been one of the luckiest turns of events of all. As the fates would have it, the stars all aligned and something about the boy caused the man, one Ianos Florean, to take a shine to him. Before any of the employees realised that he was connected with the robbery, the man hustled him out of the shop and to his home.

Instinctively Cirandiu trusted him, telling his story and putting his fate in his hands. And Ianos paid it back in kindness, taking the boy in and hiding him from retribution in his home in the Slope district of Midland until Lamm chalked him up as simply one more lost disposable orphan. A bookbinder and scribe, Ianos began teaching the boy his trades and as much else as he could, also calling on friends and acquaintances to educate him and broaden his horizons. Under his care, Cirandiu flourished, his world expanding exponentially now he was out of the clutches of Gaelan Lamm as he grew to love the man he now called his father, taking on his name where he previously had none.

And still apparent was that the young Cirandiu seemed to be blessed with an unusual amount of good luck. Whether that was being in the right place to save a toddler from being run down by a wagon or winning more games of chances than ought to be probable, Cirandiu’s extraordinary luck did not go unnoticed. Ianos attributed it to the birth tattoo on the back of his right shoulder- a birthmark that Varisians see as a mark or calling. They sought out a fortune teller, though despite her best efforts to read the Harrow, she was unable to clearly divine a clear symbol in its form. As he grew older the mark twisted and changed until it settled in his fourteenth year into the shape of a bear’s head crowned by a halo of stars. With help from the church of Sarenrae in identifying the celestial bear as an envoy of the Empyreal Lord Pulura, Cirandiu’s stepfather sought out worshippers of the Shimmering Maiden in order to understand what the mark might mean.

This led the Floreans to a small Cosmic mystery cult in the Dockway district of Magnimar. After a short deliberation their leader, Anara, confirmed their belief that the birth tattoo did indeed represent a sign from Pulura and offered the teenaged boy the chance to join the cult and study with them. Cirandiu himself was both curious and enthusiastic and eagerly adopted this pursuit. One member of the cult in particular, Franca, took an interest in the boy and took him under his wing. This elderly man with a thick white moustache came to believe that Cirandiu’s powers of luck were derived from his worship in spite of opposition from the other five members of the cult that the Mistress of the Stars did not bless her followers in such a way.

This only served to increase an underlying tension that already existed with Franca and the other five, with the majority being primarily interested in the exploration of other planes and only the old man being more concerned with matters closer to home on the Material Plane and simply watching the stars from afar. Understandably Cirandiu felt closest to Franca and together they began to attract new members to the cult, using the boy’s mark and his natural good looks and easygoing nature as a powerful recruiting tool. It was successful, doubling the size of the cult in just a few months but sowing the seeds of tragedy in the process.

Unbeknownst to them, one of the new recruits had a blood feud with the Creepers Sczarni gang and had decided that the Cosmic mystery cult would serve as an excellent place to go to ground. Unfortunately it didn’t take too long for the criminal group to track down their errant foe and wreak bloody vengeance on him and anybody else in their path, which included a large number of the cult. Along with their target, Franca, another of the original members, and three other new recruits were slain before the cult rallied, calling upon powerful magic to slay many of the Creepers in return and drive them away. Cirandiu survived the attack, instinctively turning away against a vicious sword swipe that would have likely killed him, instead only leaving him with a permanent scar down the left-hand side of his face.

Regrouping after the assault, Anara moved the cult’s base away to a new secret location and offered Cirandiu and the remaining two new members an ultimatum: subscribe fully to the group’s mission or leave. The other pair accepted but Cirandiu, distraught at the death of his mentor, decided to part ways. Staying and repudiating his divergent belief that his luck was derived from his worship of Pulura didn’t sit well with the young man and he felt it would have been something of a betrayal of a mentor who had put his faith in him.

Returning to Korvosa to reunite with Ianos, life for the Floreans picked up much as it had done previously. However, something new had been sparked within Cirandu though and he sought out information about the gods, the heavens, and connections with the divine. To that end he became a capable student, eagerly striking up conversations with strangers, poring over books, and gazing up in wonder under starlit skies.

At the suggestion of Jossaeila Moonchild, an itinerant Desnan mystic, he began scraping together coins in order supplement his informal learning with a period of study at the Greyfeather Arcane Institute and Observatory. This independent wizard school was founded by Talindra Greyfeather Marinca, known as ‘the Peacock Mage’, and her husband the Korvosan noble and businessman Namath Marinca. Standing isolated on the coast in the eastern Mushfens, the location was chosen due to it providing incredible clear skies and one of the best places for stargazing on the continent. Expanding to cover divine magic as well when the priest of Desna Costel Radascu joined the project, this small academy turned out to be a natural fit for Cirandiu. If the Cosmic mystery cult set Cirandiu on his current path, his time at the Greyfeather Institute shaped his life in several important ways.

From his various teachers he learned about the deities and the Empyreal Lords, the different heavenly bodies in the skies, and the principles of both arcane and divine magic. From his fellow students he learned to make new friends, have fun with his peers and enjoy the lifestyle of this close-knit community. From Jossaelia he learned to have the courage of his convictions, firmly cementing his belief that his luck was a gift from Pulura.

And from Nemniana Ralomir he learned about love. A shyly sweet girl with glossy brown hair, big doe eyes and kindness to spare, she stole Cirandiu’s heart at first glance. And with equally little difficulty our charming, handsome, divinely-marked hero took hers in return. They turned out to be a remarkably well-matched couple, both obviously physically beautiful but also similar in nature and complementing each other where they differed.

Cirandiu’s time at the Institute was therefore a joy - the stars genuinely aligning for the young acolyte, as it were. Yet, truly happy as he was, he also began to miss his home and friends in Korvosa. Deeper still, he felt that he lacked real purpose - if he had been fortunate enough to be blessed by a god, surely he should be doing something with his gift? Talking it through with his beloved, the couple began to realise that for a time their paths diverged. While Nemniana stayed at the Greyfeather Institute, smoothly passing from student to teacher, Cirandiu headed back to Korvosa, though only for a few months before he felt the pull of the road.

Heading out into wider Varisia, he began taking the roads across the south of the country as an envoy for the Shimmering Maiden. Making his way from town to village he spread the good word of his divine patron, brought comfort and aid to those he could help, and taught folk about the beauty of the constellations. Sometimes he hooked up with a caravan of Varisian travellers, other times with a merchant wagon, and yet other times he wandered alone, though he would say that he always travels in Pulura’s light. Despite some people showing an initial wariness around his scarred visage, his easygoing and enthusiastic charisma soon had him fast friends with most people he met.

Yet for all that Cirandiu enjoyed his time on the road, learning much from the experiences of the people he met, in his heart he knew this was not a permanent lifestyle for him. Instead the magnetic pull of Korvosa drew him back into its orbit once more and he had the wisdom to know that this was his truest home. While he will still extol the virtues of his mistress and of the wonders of the night sky to anybody interested, it was through a chance conversation with Viandrana Gandrix that he found his true calling. A priestess of Sarenrae who he was teaching about astronomy, she asked if he was interested in covering a shift at the Dawnflower House orphanage she works at. He did, quickly coming to realise that this was the opportunity to better the lives of children so they never had to go through what he himself did that he had been looking for. Cirandiu has been a full-time member of staff alongside the Sarenrite clergy for the last couple of years and finds real fulfilment and purpose in his work.

He often makes extended stays at the Institute to see Nemniana and those of his other friends still at the Academy. His desire to right wrongs has also led him to join with Viandrana and his friend Thomin, a member of the city guard to form an irregular vigilante group setting out to protect local citizens in ways their normal roles prevent. The trio operate under the name the Shepherds - Cirandiu’s suggestion as a way of defining their roles as protecting lost lambs - though it’s used somewhat tongue-in-cheek and only among themselves. All in all life is good; as Cirandiu will gladly tell you, he’s a lucky man.
