POLL: Do You Want A New Edition of Pathfinder (Pathfinder 2e) ?

Not quite. What *I* want is a Pathfinder Basic. I got the core rules after buying the Beginner Box, and I'd MUCH prefer a 1-20 Pathfinder that was like the Beginner Box than what the Core Rules provided.

I mean, really, its like comparing the HERO 6th Edition books 1 and 2 to HERO Basic, or HERO 5th to HERO Sidekick. I want the lighter version with out all the massive amounts of details, and significantly better presentation.

I mean, really, Pathfinder is great and all, but its SO MASSIVE! I want a simpler game, which is why I've been seriously trying to get my players onboard to changing to D&D 5e Basic.

I encourage you to go to the Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Magic product pages on paizo.com and check out all the reviews.

...that's.... that's... so blaringly obvious... *d'oh*

I would suggest that if there's a way to sort by reviews (I try to ignore the 1-stars and 5-stars), that'd be an awesome addition for later.

Also wishing I had this now, before I start a new game with a new player! D'oh! Oh well :)

I've never bought an "Ultimate" book before - how are they in general? Some of the things here remind of stuff I've seen in other games and like, so this might be something I'll get...

Thanks for the PDF version as well; I just got back into paintball, so its nice to know I can still get this within my budget :)

Bummer. I guess I ought give the idea up for now, then :(

The whole toolkit idea was something I've heard before, and they even talk about in 5th Revised, page 10:

Quote:

The Ultimate Gamer's Toolkit

Maybe you're used to playing other roleplaying game systems. We hope you'll switch over to using the HERO System, but even if you don't want to do that, you can still use the HERO System to improve your other game.

The HERO System is the ultimate gamer's toolkit. You can use it to build anything, from characters, to weapons, to spells, to vehicles, to whatever else you can think of. Because of the system's internal rules and logic, characters, powers, and other game elements which have the same or similar point cost will have the same or similar effectiveness or power, all other things being equal. This makes it easy to determine whether a new item, spell, or power is unusually powerful and effective before you use it in game play. Few game systems provide this sort of resource. Gamemasters and players using other game systems who want to create something new typically have to "guesstimate" whether it will be effective and balanced, or unusually powerful (and thus unbalancing within the campaign).

With the HERO System, you can be more precise. Figure out how to create your new item or spell using the HERO system, then create a similar item or spell from the other game and compare the two. This gives you a good idea of whether your new creation works well as-is or needs some adjustment. Once your new creation is effective and balanced, simply convert it over to the other rule system, and you're set!

For me? Again, they've got massive libraries of HERO books, not to mention notes, characters, etc., that I can borrow. So for me it would be a resource. I don't know how monster creation is in Pathfinder (the beastiary has a system?), but that'd be another thing I'd want to use it for. Or creating items and such, like weapons.

Basically, trying to leverage my current resources with what I'm getting into (Pathfinder), simply because I'm still new to it and I'll be owing on taxes this year so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get all the cool and groovy books I want to just yet :p

HERO, or so I've heard, has long been used as a toolkit for other games. People would make stuff in HERO to make sure it was "balanced," worked the way they wanted, etc., then would convert/export the resulting creation to the system of their choice.

Has anyone done this?

I've got a copy of HERO Sidekick and HERO 5th revised, plus friends who play/use HERO religiously. As such, they've got tons of notes, books, etc., that I might find useful from decades of gaming.

How do you convert? I was sort of thinking of finding baselines to work with, but am not sure. HERO's two damage types (BODY and Stun) don't quite help, either... *-*

Help?

While it'd database work, adding "Beginner Box Friendly" to all applicable products would be good. Not sure how much it would cost, but having stickers for retailers to put on their boxes, or a "try these!" flier would be good too.

Basically, a clear indication of what you can play/use with the Beginner's Box and a clear "graduation" path to Core and beyond. Its not immediately clear to me on the website, honestly, and we can't assume whoever is shopping on the site necessarily is the gamer (could be a gift, after all).

Oh, yeah, again, my initial/hoped group will be 3-5 players... Bit going insane just yet!

How fun/difficult is King Maker for players and GMs? And can you just use the town building part? We're doing that in a nearly 3-times a year Harn game, and we really dig it.

Thanks! And, believe it or not, my looney group does indeed tun those numbers every week... *-*

Hmmm...

Ah, up too late and over enthusiastic...

I just found 0one Games's "Beginner Path" - what Adventure Paths and Modules are Beginner's Box friendly?

First off, let me just say, "wow!" I'm very impressed with the Beginner's Box in just about every aspect of production. Very well done, and I'm supremely happy with it.

/e hugsPaizo

I'm planning on starting a small game with some friends soon-ish. It'll be a little difficult with schedules and stuff, but should be fun when we can make it. I've already bought one module (Crypt of the Everflame) and out of personal amusement a small supplement (Cooking with Class, because I'm a food dork!).

Now, for the fun/weird questions.

1. My normal group is about 12 people meeting up Saturday nights to play games using HERO System. I don't necessarily expect myself to be running for them anytime soon, but will Pathfinder be okay with such a large group if I ever tried? What could I do with such a large group?

2. Speaking of HERO, it does call itself a gaming toolbox. Has anyone ever used it to create something then convert it to Pathfinder? Enemies, items, spells, etc?

3. How much work would it take to convert D&D 4e stuff to work with Pathfinder? The main concern I've got here is that Maui has no friendly local game/comic shops (yay economy), and with the closure of Borders ONLY has a lone Barnes and Noble for books, games, etc. Whenever I move over to Pathfinder's Core rules and get the Beastiary, I'll get them there. However, they've got a fair amount of 4e stuff, and from what I've read about 4e they've got some useful/neat things. My main concern is supporting local gaming and supporting a locally operated business rather than getting the "best price," and from what I've heard, special orders benefit the company, but not necessarily the store itself.

Tangent on #3:
When our Borders closed down (it was in town) there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, let me tell you. Not only for losing much loved community spot to meet, spend time, etc., but losing a venue for local authors, writers, etc., plus all the jobs. When I say it was "our" Borders, I mean it! So, yeah, wanting to help keep our local B&N up and running...

I will buy stuff via Paizo and other online spots, but would much, MUCH rather buy local.
