Narses Court - Ventrue Table - Cantor, Alessandro, Dunstan

Alessandro Khadaji wrote:

I will try to put into... your terms, so there is no misunderstanding, yes? I was not protecting her. I have no doubt, she could stop you with little effort.

I was simply defending the Ventrue territory that is this table and the sanctity of the Lady Alyssa's honor and personal space. Surely that is something understandable to a man of instinct. Alessandro looks to everyone involved, nodding thanks to those helping reign in the Gangrel.

Looking from Dunstan to Cantor. I think we can find common ground, Cantor. I think we understand each other... You, Dunstan and me, when we strip the veil of civility. Our challenge will be to not let it get to that, between us.

Seeing his plan working, actually a bit better than expected, [b]"Excellent. I can respect zat. Of more importance, zat some of your blood did not loose their minds at even a minor challenge."

Gustav having departed, Jurgen nods towards him, "That one is a hot-head and a dangerous enemy to have. His Sire is powerful enough that her city is independent of Hardestadt's Black Cross. Not a wise enemy to make Childe", he states to Cantor in no uncertain terms.

"As I understand it, your goal is to make an alliance of our kind. A place of safety, where all stand togezer against our enemies. A place where our kind can earn respect on our merits, and join togezer in zese Eleesiums without fear of attack. How can zis come to be if such a one, wiz all of his power and support, at his own territory can not keep his hands off of an "unwise, hot-headed childe"? Jus' how certain are you," looking around the table at Jurgen, Allyssa, Dunstan, and Alessandro, "he would do any better in times of true trouble? "Even when the very things that make you men cease to function your gender still runs hot with tempers", she giggles.

"If we do not do so how can we catch the eye of fair maiden's such as yourself?" retorts Jurgen. "These small misunderstandings should not stand in the way of unity. Alyssa and Meridie are both competent and behind them both stand old and powerful interests. Still, those interests and far away from this place and while they may be influential, to have a block of Anacillae Cainites who have experience with both Elder and Neonate alike, this Camarilla will be better for it".

"I must agree, luv. It is possible zat this entire, . . . spectacle,. . . was simply a boyish attempt to win the attention of a femeie frumoasă, how you might say, . . . a goddess amungs woman." he says with a mischievous smile.

Standing unrepentant of some perceived "sin", Yanos turns back towards Alessandro and Sir Dunstan, "As you can see, 'tween actions, and more importantly reactions and words, only one really mazzers.

"Now zat we each have a bezzer idea of where we all stand, now we can speak of friendships, yes. How, Alessandro, did it feel? Did you fight back for love of her? Or because somethin' told you zat you had love for her and you must do everyzing ta protect your Clan mate? What makes her worzy of yur love? If we are ta support her claim to the,. . . throne," there is a bit of contempt with that word, but otherwise his words seem genuine, not intended to make others question themselves, "zat you would stand for her?"

I'm not sure how the rolls have played out so far, but seeing that the Ventrue childe did not break down into tears and flee, but neither did he draw blade or loose himself to the Beast, Yanos offers a small chuckle, before extending a hand, slightly bestial towards warrior.

"We where told zat yur maszer, like ze ozzers, wanted ze support of the Clans. Clan Gangrel would only support one we found worzy. Jus' wanted ta see how ya, and she" looking Alyssa directly, "had to be tes'ed."

Interesting, the Childe doesn't seem to understand at all. Not something I had expected in the test. Regardless, he didn't move out of the way as directed, so I'll push right past him to speak to Alyssa, calling on the gifts of the blood.

Narses Court - Gangrel Table

As Dunstand and Cantor look in the direction of the Ventrue Table, Alessandro, the Childe of Alyssa, gestures towards the Brujah Table and Lady Meridie who is still sitting there.

Criatas has moved along to speak with Alexander near the Ventrue Table of all places. Robin Leeland has moved away from the Brujah Table and towards the Malkavian Table whereas Dark Selina is at the Tzimisce Table speaking with the only Mortal in the room.

Do you want to hold position or approach the Ventrue? Lord Jurgen remains at the side of Alyssa at the Ventrue Table. Lady Jadvga and her Childe have moved to the center of the room and are interacting with Helene of Clan Toreador, both of their Childer are in tow. Another Ventrue remains at that table a Gustav who is NOT a candidate for Ventrue Inner Circle.

Sorry, it looks like the guy/gal I was RPing with has vanished. I had been waiting on an answer and missed this completely. It looks like we may have lost Dunstand.

Storyteller Shadow wrote:

Dunstan, you nod towards Alyssa and Cantor agrees. You begin to make your way over.

Hold there for a second, if Alessandro wishes to remain at the Table he will interact with you otherwise he may be headed towards the Assamites table...

Gangrel do not wait on other's, walking proudly to speak with Alyssa, eyeing this other Cainite, Alessandro, as a beast would another, a test of sorts, just to see how he reacts. Part of me expects the thing to flee at the first sign of trouble, but, the point is, as my Sire suggested, to test the waters. See what their Clan's mettle really looks like.

Its an obvious misdirection. Your Sire's fate in this "Conclave" is being tested by just how her Childer, Alessandro reacts to even unskilled intimidation and seeing beneath the surface. The attempt was meant to fail.

(1) Francois and his Childe are still seated at the Toreador Table. Ranerius is his Childe and he is currently engaged in speaking with Rafael's childe.
(2) Helene and her Childe have stood up and are approaching the Ventrue Table, specifically Lanzo.
(3) Rafael has approached the Salubri Table and the lone member of the Clan present there.

I was mostly waiting on Dunstar to reply back.

Listening, but not truly understanding what it means yet, I wonder what his Sire told him of the Ventrue and Toreador, if anything. But, then again, my own Sire could have been wrong, or lying. . . And would war be a bad thing. It might clear out some of the older and weaker "Kindred", leaving room for more worthy ones. But he doesn't know nearly enough to make a choice yet, just weighing the different sides the best he can.

"We should go speak with them. I suggest the Toreador first, 'less you have a different plan. "Looking on these,. . . fellow Kindred, I wonder if any of them really understand." he says, almost absent-mindedly.

"But, enough of that. As yourself said, I'm new. From what I can see, the Kindred" motioning with a hand to indicate nearly all gathered, "are most like roosters. As we walk inside, Yanos tries his hardest to appear confident and worthy of such a group. Calm, patient, and honored to be a guest in court, though in truth he hates such places. Such crowds.

Appearance + Etiquette + Willpower: 4d10 + 1 ⇒ (7, 3, 1, 1) + 1 = 13 ouch, failure, but not a botch.

As he stands to the side besides Milov, his Sire of the Gangrel Clan, he makes an extreme effort to remember the individuals called to introduce themselves. Their Clans, their various titles, though many are still rather meaningless to the neonate, and the small details they present, or try to conceal.

Intelligence + (?) Politics: 3d10 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) = 14 maybe?

Towards then end, I'll lean a bit closer to whisper to Milov, "Am I to understand zat our Clan shall not have a representative, then, Sire? Do these Camarilla Conclave's not hold us as worzy"

Perception + Empathy (vs either Khay’tall or Fadris, wasn't clear on which): 5d10 ⇒ (4, 7, 2, 8, 9) = 30 Looks like 1.

Also noticing the "angel", Xing Shi sitting alone, and having never answered him earlier, "What do you know of zat one, Milov? What is she, and why does she not have a Sire here like ze ozers?"

Later

Again leaning in to whisper to his Sire, not entirely sure just what inside him has prompted the odd sense of kinship with or respect for the elder looking woman he has never met, Why such harsh treatment of ze elder woman? Is it her Clan, or does ze prince have some grudge? What has she done?" <Durga Syn> Perhaps cut short as the newcomer arrives, and the words "I lost them" and "just in time" catch his attention, for some reason putting Yanos, the Cantor, on alert. Who is them???

Having pushed back some of the bestial tension that had been rising, a sign that some of what his Sire had told him of the demonbeast within was indeed true, Cantor wonders for a moment what might happen under more serious a threat, or an attack that is not mere words.

And while he doesn't believe that the other Cainite's jaded words are true, some of them still stung, leaving a small crack in his own paradigm. But one that is also easily covered by hearing some of the words of others on their won faith and convictions. On seeing members of two sworn enemies standing close and not devolving into butchery.

Hearing the call to Conclave, I'll move to join my Sire as we enter, "As you can see, I was able to keep my head. And ze knight didn't loose an eye. As you said, Sire, most of zem would scoff, zinking zey are better zan us and not wish exchange words much because of it, but zey said much without realizing it. Easy to provoke. Easy to lead. Not going to lie, I just realized they changed DAV20 even more than I'd noticed with the upgrading damage, and I'm slowly teetering from the "I like it overall, but not a fan of a lot of things" to "I'm not a fan". Note, this is in regards to the DAV20 book itself, not the house rules.

I wonder if they forgot that that was a Requiem Rule and not a VtM/DA rule?

I did have a few questions.

Under Healing/Damage:
Bashing
Bashing damage comes from punches, sticks, and other sources of blunt trauma that are unlikely to instantly kill a victim. All characters use their full Stamina ratings to soak bashing damage.
-
Vampires shrug off bashing damage as trivial; halve all bashing damage a vampire takes after soaking, and round down. Mark bashing damage down the health track with a slash “/”.
-
Mortals with a health track full of bashing damage fall unconscious.
-
Cainites continue moving as if they were Crippled (-5).
-
Further bashing damage past the health track turns into lethal damage.

Lethal Damage
Lethal damage comes from bladed weapons and other sources of injury that cause immediate, threatening wounds to mortal flesh. With Storyteller discretion, blunt attacks aimed at a mortal’s vitals difficulty 8 or 9 to target) cause lethal damage. Cainites soak lethal damage with their full Stamina. Mortals may not soak lethal damage without armor. Mark lethal damage with an “X” on the health track. Mortals die.
-
House Rule: Lethal Damage dealt to a Vampire past the Incapacitated track DOES NOT result in further Aggravated Damage. However, any further damage dealt will reduce a Vampires Blood Pool on a one for one basis potentially sending that Cainite into Torpor.

I might have missed something, but that very last part of the House rule for Lethal Damage implies that such a character would not already be in Torpor after losing more health below Incapacitated. Was it supposed to be read like they are in Torpor, but also loose blood for each additional health level, or that it takes that much to send them into Torpor?

Also, I just wanted to make sure I'm understanding Bashing Damage here (for Cainites). Bashing Damage will never send you into Torpor or past the Crippled Health Level. But, every further Health level upgrades to Lethal damage.

And also under Willpower

Willpower is one of the most important Traits in Vampire.
Because there are so many ways to spend and regain Willpower, it fluctuates more than any other Trait (besides blood pool).
-
A Willpower point may be spent to gain an automatic
success on a single action.

I may be mixing something up, but I believe prior you had said that the automatic success from a Willpower expenditure was not cancelled out by a 1. (If I'm wrong, please ignore). Is that still the case?

He grows silent for a moment, not wanting to get too worked up, but also because deep down, he himself does not know what is truth, not after his own "crusade" that turned out to be a lie. How much they told him was truth, he knew not. Nor was he himself Catholic, so didn't believe in the concept of Purgatory. But he does believe in Hell, and also redemption.

"I have heard zat there are some knights, some sworn to protect zey way to Jerus'lum for the pilgrim. Ozers that die making the holy city free. And some zat master healing and war for the protec'ion of all ozers. Are zese Temple Knights an' Hospital Knights a lie?"

Ah, ok. I didn't see it that way at all, but now that you say it, I can, and that does put a very different spin on it. Now I see what the issue is. So, what do you want to do here? I can just completely ignore the action I posted as it didn't happen.

Seeing a blade drawn out of the corner of his eye, Cantor suddenly turns his head quickly, instinctively looking for a threat. Seeing none, he allows his calm to return. While he was never truly a crusader, he had had some training that had not been for naught. Following the cocky-looking pretty boy's eyes towards whatever sense of danger had scarred him so much. Ah. The woman.

Offering a quick, "Excuse me, m'lord, m'lady", he steps over towards the newcomer. "Ah, it iz good to zee you, my frien'. Nodding my head, I'll make my way over. Not knowing if all of them are "in on our little secret", I'll refrain from mentioning anything overtly vampiric. Thinking to himself that if the others do, it should be safe. The rules are a little bit odd.

"Good Evenin' my friends. It seems this is the place to be, yes?" the middle-aged looking man says as he walks up to the group. He has the look of a man that is accustomed to working hard most of his life, and speaks with a clearly foreign accent. Something Eastern European, as clearly the local tongue is very hard for him, though he does well enough. He has long brown hair, but is clean shaven, a custom he doesn't seem to have done for very long, but despite only being in his thirties, there are a few grey hairs in there. Also, something,. . . animalistic. Bestial. It's hard to say, but for those who know enough about it, his lineage is not hard to guess. "I figured I might come over and try 'n make some friends until the meetin' starts. I hope it iz alright, I wasn't intur,. . . interrupting anything?", holding out an hand to everyone that might care to shack it and introduce themselves.

At Michele he simply nods in silent understanding, seeing that both seem to have made it out of the last ordeal alive, <well, not entirely alive>, and at least in one piece. "I'm glad to see you again, my friend. I, . . . when last we met, you asked me to deliver a message for you. I did, though I did not zee you again afterwar's. Whur you able to find your mazter? I am pleased you are safe, and we may meet again under, . . . better circumstances."

Towards both Alyssa Gilbert, but particularly Xing Shi, I'll also bow to kiss their hand, offering a polite "Malady", if they allow.

I'm guessing that Xing Shi is likewise obviously a foreigner, but likely a variety I am much less familiar with.

Yanos

Spending the remainder of the night moving his possessions to his new haven and beginning to toy around with the idea of having a small assortment of magical abilities himself, Yanos keeps himself busy, attempting to stay away from the warm bloods until his Sire again meets him the next night, with promises of had to "properly" feed, (they don't just eat, or dine, or sup?), as well as to discuss this Cainite Talisman, (was it perhaps a Cainite, that odd word again, named Talisman?).

There was a great deal to take in, and it seemed to be beginning to open his mind up somewhat. In addition to feeling more, more young almost, he also just seemed to be awakening in general. Without the need for breath, he guessed he might be able to run for eternity, should he desire, or lift a heavy rock or fence post without his muscles giving out or tiring.

Alone, in the barn, he tried it a few times, simply holding a heavy saddle outstretched to see if his arms would give. Testing the waters. Ah, that's an interesting idea. If I no longer need breath, can I drown? More than a few minutes with his head in the trough seemed to say no, or at least that he could go for rather long periods of time.

The risk of someone wandering in and seeing some of the ridiculous antics was too great for Yanos to be able to test his limits too much, but it did seem that he was at least on the right track.

Knowing without knowing how, though he'd always had a rather particular affinity for time, he could sense the sun rise, and felt a certain tug, both physical as well as mental that it was time to die once more. I suppose that's what happens. He had said something about eternity, or forever, and it had seemed like he'd risen from death this night, just as the sun's rays had vanished. I guess each day I just die. Resurected each day. It made an odd sort of sense, and like at church, there was blood involved. Perhaps the Catholics where a bit more correct with their views of the Eucurist, he pondered.

Returning to his haven once more after telling the horses that seemed to rather like him now, "Jus' go ahead an' stay. I see you again soon, girl. I see if I can brin' some carrots and oats, huh?"
Man + Animalism: 4d10 ⇒ (4, 8, 8, 9) = 29

Making his way back to his room, he makes certain to bolt the door, and like he was told, shove some sort of cloth below the frame, just in case. Could the light really harm him so badly? Even when he was dead during the day? The time was coming, and Yanos could feel it.

Again, as before, he awoke as if he had just lain down and shut his eyes. There was no sensation of waking from sleep, or being tired still. No figments of dreams, no yawn. He just simply existed again. He was still cool, and as he sat up, no rush of blood to his head or feet.

Again he seemed to have no need to get prepared to leave. His hair seemed ok. His skin wasn't oily, and he didn't seemed to have bad breath, (or even a dry mouth for that matter). Hum he hadn't realized that last night. He did feel hungry. Not starved, but like he was somehow less. Not even weaker. Just different. Somehow. Even more odd in that he didn't particularly feel a desire for anything.

Waiting a bit more, he heads out again, having a vague idea of where his Sire would be coming for him. And the night called.

But first, he needed to check up on the girls. And Gunther.

Yanos Saint Germaine

Petrankov nods, "Welcome Saint Germaine. Come it is time to rest, the night draws to a close and tomorrow will be a long night. I have much to teach you and yet still have my own dealings to be squared away before the meeting I came here to attend begins".

"Waking" for the first time from a much truer "dead sleep" than he has ever before, Yanos looks about, allowing everything to fully seep in before moving. There are vague memories of some sort of battle. A savage one. Against who. No! Against what, he both knows and fails to understand at the same time.

It, no he, reminded him of both himself, but also much more similar to Milov Petrankov, his new dark father of sorts. Had he truly died last night? Was he dead now, or resurrected? So much was far beyond his simple mind, for everything seems to indicate the one, (he has no heart beat, he is cold now, not warm, and even on the way back to this new place, called a "haven" now, not a home, or a room, or an inn, but a "haven", all along the trip back, covered in muck, he looked out and felt little for the other people. Not lust for the call girls offering their bodies as wares, nor the prettier noble women in fancy cloths and high priced decoration. They had something he wanted, but it seemed, the impulses seemed to want them entirely. Not their, not their bodies. Not the comfort they might bring. Not their warmth laying next to you thereafter, . . . No. Wait. That wasn't true. Their warmth, yes. But, but it was more like a desire to take it. To steal it. To claim it from them.

And then there was the haven itself. This new place. The inn's staff seemed to simply agree to anything without question. This room was different. It seemed, too soft. To dark. But somehow that seemed safer as well. Though he was utterly tired. Drained, in so many ways, he lay down on the bed provided, and simply could not rest. No sleep, and then it was as if, as if he had simply shut his eyes, as if blinking, and then when they opened again, it was night once more. The beginning of night, at that. Something was off, but he could still tell, after years of working the hard lands, that the sun had just set without even looking at the sky. Only moments, perhaps seconds had passed since the sun had fully set.

Milov Petrankov said he would be in the common area, that I must meet him. Could I have slept through it?!?!?! "There is much to do" he had said. Scrambling to get ready, Yanos quickly finds he is already dressed, and there is little he needs to do get himself ready, so gets up and begins to make his way towards the common room.

My goals for the character are to begin to develop into a more intellectual and educated individual. I'm kind of thinking along the lines of Braveheart, where the uncle takes the young William and begins to teach and train him. But, I also don't want it to be easy or just a large jump, but rather something that evolves over time. I wanted to begin to represent this by my in character dialogue beginning to shift away from the simple "Lingua Franca" to a more refined and confident oratory. So, my idea is that my sire has be begin a pretty strict and brutal instruction on how to read, and also instructions on some of the basics of things like politics, religion, mysticism, and the like. Now, this might not be strictly Milov himself doing the instruction, but rather sending me to study under others. OOC, I'm thinking his entire intent in choosing me was to forge me into his second in command, in a sense. Maybe not literally, but someone to watch his back, handle things for him, and deal with stuff he can not. So, I figure that he would find it in his best interests to make me as useful as possible.

-
Mechanically speaking, I want to aim on raising Charisma, Intelligence, and Manipulation to around 3 dots, and also a pretty broad assortment of Attributes. I was, XP wise, going to first start with Intelligence, then look to Charisma, and various Attributes. I wasn't really too sure on just how much downtime we are talking here, but I was basically wanting to raise everything I have a Dot it by one at least, over time, and I also figured that the Greetings Inn, Gunther, Jodi, and Lindsey would make pretty good retainers, contacts, allies, domains, resources, etc. . ., so I kind of planned on boosting those along the way as well. Morally speaking, I'm a bit hesitant to ghoul or feed from these three I consider friends, confidants, and people that have helped me for no personal gain, but, at the same time, I kind of felt (or will), that it was kind of necessary to at least ghoul Gunther to be able to secure a safe haven during the day. I'm not sure about Alternate Identity. I honestly just took it for background story purposes. I might build on it later, but if so, that will be a bit down the road. I also fully understand that there is the potential of the story moving away from Venice, (and thus my haven, domain, allies, retainers, etc. . . I accept that. I thought it worked pretty well as a background, so I'm fine with that. I can kind of keep it going off screen if needed.

I believe I am done, and have also updated a bit more of the background as well. <I added 2 Dots in Animalism and Fortitude, 1 Dot in Academics, Politics, Occult, Theology, Mentor, Domain, and Retainers, and a second Dot in Resources, which I assume would kick in a little bit later after some tutelage from my Sire.>

Rising from the baptismal waters of sorts, Yanos seems,. . . different. Stronger. More sure. More assured. The Embrace also brings with it his first Frenzy, something he doesn't even remember in his death and resurrection, but something that leaves a mark on all members of his Blood. His nails have grown a bit longer, and he seems to, without even realizing it, be slowly clinching and unfurling his fingers in claw-like motions like an animal eager to get out or strike.

Just an idea for the future if you are interested. Google Documents can be a life saver for things like this. You can also set it to allow anyone the ability to view, edit, or download, or specify individuals, etc. . . From there, you can also just post a link somewhere for people to see. One of the benefits is you can kind of color code it as needed, so you might copy the exact text, and then type in in red the variations and house rules you use instead. Just an idea. The other kind of cool thing is that you can also use it for pictures of NPCs or locations as needed. However, I love the theme you went with above. Awesome.

I did have a few questions, which really may not be too important. As a mortal, and this was mostly a sort of background story related ability, I put 2 dots into Crafts which I was intending to kind of cover the generic carpentry/fix-it man aspect I was using at the Inn. What would you like me to change that too with the new Craft rules. (I personally don't like them as written. Why not just make Craft a few separate skills for simplicity. Crafts: Carpentry, Crafts: Masonry, etc. . .)

The idea and intent was that I've been a farmer and general do-it-yourself peasant all my life, and not a professional woodcarver, mason, etc. . . I figure that Animal Ken can really handle a lot of the rural and "farming" aspects as is, but how would you like me to handle the Crafts portion, (which I do not think will be that relevant in game, but could be wrong). I really don't plan on ever going higher then maybe 3 dots, but that could change.

In other words, let me say it like this. As per the new rules, I basically have Crafts 2 in one of the following (that seem most pertinent) Woodcarving, Architecture, or Masonry. However, I basically then also have Crafts 0 in anything else and an additional penalty, which effectively makes me very incompetent in anything but that one aspect, which is pretty much counter to the entire idea of what Crafts used to represent. Without any XP to actually spend (at the start) to make myself able to use the other two specialties, I can basically make a door, but can't hinge it or work it into stone, (for example). Or, if I took Woodcarving, I could produce fence posts to hold the cows, but would be inept at actually placing the wooden fence, or a stone one, and also wouldn't be able to design a decent sized area/location to place the fence, because I am just as bad at crafting as if I had no dots in it and the same penalty. But then, I spend 2 XP (after play begins) and suddenly I'm great at it again.
