This story is easy to get into. Lesser characters like the Corporal (though who knows if he has a more important role to play later?) have perfectly reasonable, believable actions; Sefu's motivation is clear, and his desire to help his sister even over her strenuous objection is very sympathetic. Other than Leyli, though, are all Domitian's worshipers corrupt and (ironically) impatient?
