Exciting Kaer Maga Dungeon Crawl filled with Innovative Traps!

5/5

This module was a blast to run, but has some very tricky rooms and traps to coordinate. Being an old-school gamer, I enjoy the challenge of grinding through a nice dungeon module. I've noticed that modern powergamers, that are used to curb stomping everything, tend to complain in these sorts of adventures.

If you want a fun, imaginative dungeon crawl, then the Undercity of Kaer Maga awaits! Conversely, if your players like everything handed to them nice and easy, then this is a module to avoid. It will challenge them in every way, shape and form and they may not like it.

In regards to the other reviews that call this module "incoherent", I'd reply that the theme of the module makes more sense when taken in context with the Council of Truth and their experiments that resulted in this dungeon. For further reading, pick up City of Strangers to help flesh out the rest of the Asylum Stone.

If you like bestiaries, then you'll love the Southlands Bestiary!

5/5

Ever since the long lost days of first edition, my favorite RPG books have been the Monster Manuals. With the rise of the Pathfinder RPG, the Bestiary series has kept the grand flame of the Monster Manual alive with an ever increasing cast of critters and creatures to confound your players!

Kobold Press has produced high quality, well balanced supplements for Pathfinder for years. The Southlands Bestiary works best as a supplement for desert or planar adventures, but with its wide range of CRs, there are plenty of monster options for any campaign regardless of setting.

From the lowly CR 1/2 lemurfolk to the mighty CR 26 Mechuiti Demon Lord, you get a full range of threats to throw at your PCs for an entire campaign. If you're running campaigns through the planes or in Golarion's desert regions, this is a must buy. Players love to read through bestiaries and books they're supposed to avoid, but with this solid third party supplement, you can shock and surprise them before beating them into submission!

If you need another bestiary, buy the Southlands Bestiary today!

Mythic Solutions gives you the tools you need to make yours Mythic!

5/5

Mythic Solutions gives you the tools you need to keep your Mythic Adventures under control! Ever since the release of Mythic Adventures a few years ago, cries of "Teh Brokenz" or "OP!!!" have gone out from forums far and wide and in some instances, perhaps rightfully so. So what is the poor GM who wants to introduce Mythic Adventures into their campaign to do? Well, you can start by picking up a copy of this PDF (or the complete Mythic Heroes Handbook if you have the cash as it includes this PDF) and begin implementing some of the suggestions to keep Mythic options from overpowering your table.

Included within, you will find suggestions for how to handle action economy, the nova problem, stacking multipliers, single ability focus, rapid recovery, bypassing immunity & resistance, and unlimited caster versatility. These problems exacerbated by Mythic Rules are discussed in depth and multiple solutions and alternate rules are suggested to help handle each one.

After reading through the PDF for fifteen minutes, I found one rule that I could implement that I felt would keep my entire campaign of Mythic heroes under control. That's how fantastic this supplement is. You can use as many or as few of these suggestions as you like and there is plenty of wiggle room for whatever style of campaign that you run.

If you're looking to add Mythic options to your campaign, or already have mythic characters running around, this pdf will give you plenty of food for thought and several solutions to the various problems that arise through Mythic Play. Silence those cries of "broken" and "op" with one fell swoop by picking up a copy of Mythic Solutions today.

New Mechanics, Monsters, and More for your Mythic Game!

5/5

Mythic Monsters: Colossal from Legendary Games brings you 30 pages filled with titanic terrors, mythic monsters and colossal climbing rules to help you bridge the gaps in your kaiju filled game sessions. There are few constants in the d20 universe; you roll a d20 to hit, you do damage, you take damage and Legendary Games is making mythic roleplaying accessible to every gaming table. This latter constant is one that I have discovered but recently.

This supplement starts out with a brief discussion of the Mythic Monsters series as well as a brief introduction to colossal monsters. The gaming mechanics get off to a roaring start with the introduction of a great new mechanic “Combat Climbing” for use when dealing with beasts of the colossal variety. The new mechanics give you options for climbing on, holding on during combat, attacking and dismounting and you are given two new feats to help you accomplish these tasks, “Combat Climber” and “Combat Cling”.

The combat climbing mechanics are what sold me on this supplement and I must say that those two pages alone make the supplement worth the price of admission.

But wait, there’s more!

As with all of the entrants in the Mythic Monsters series, this supplement goes on to give you full crunchy statblocks for twelve monsters – now with full mythic abilities. Legendary Games drops the mic with their first creature – the Mythic Colossal Dire Ape(a CR15/MR 6 creature) – which works quite nicely for anyone wishing to include the original king of the monsters in their Pathfinder campaign.

Other creatures include the Astral Leviathan (CR 23/MR 9), Tempest Behemoth (CR 27/MR 10), Thalassic Behemoth (CR 25/mR 10), Thunder Behemoth (CR 23/MR 9), Titan Centipede (CR 11/MR 4), Shipwrecker Crab (CR 16/MR 6), Brachiosaurus Dinosaur (CR 13/MR 5), Tyrannosaurus Dinosaur (CR 12/MR 4), Tarrasque (CR 30/MR 10), Immense Tortoise (CR 10/MR 4), Zombie Titan (Cr 13/MR 5), and lastly, for those of you planning to unleash Ragnarak on your campaign, you can now bring the end of all things with the Midgard Serpent Linnorm (CR 30/MR 10)!

There are a couple typos and errors here and there, but the supplement is error free for the most part. Combined together, the new game mechanics and the fine bestiary selection of mythic colossal monstrosities make this a must buy supplement for GMs wishing to include mythic titans in their campaign.

Legendary Games has cornered the market on Mythic Adventures and this supplement continues to showcase the high quality of the brand.

Recommended and then some.

Most Useful of the Tavern Maps so Far!

5/5

I find that the Seedy Tavern Flip Mat is my favorite of the tavern maps printed by Paizo. The seedy tavern side features a tavern with the surrounding streets that can easily be broken up to represent several different establishments or one large one.

The flip side of the mat offers not one - but TWO more tavern options. One is a waterside tavern - featuring rooms like an inn as well. The second is a smaller dingy tavern with a secret entrance to the sewers behind it.

All in all, without breaking up the taverns into smaller versions, you get three different maps for the price of one - or more if you learn how to divide the front side. The art is great, the map stock is sturdy and works well with dry or wet erase markers. Recommended.

Great Set of Pawns for Shattered Star AP or Kaer Maga Adventures!

5/5

The Shattered Star Adventure Path Pawn Collection continues the grand tradition of beautiful full color pawns to help you run your Shattered Star campaign. If you're not running the Shattered Star AP, this is still an excellent set of pawns to pick up - especially if you ever consider running an adventure in Kaer Maga as it comes with duskwardens, a troll augur and more!

The art is gorgeous, the card stock is strong and the selection is magnificent. They're pawns. If you love pawns, you'll love this set. See the full list on Paizo.com to see exactly what you're getting.

Iron Gods Pawn Set Brings Robots, Androids & Monsters to Your Campaign!

5/5

The Pathfinder Iron Gods Adventure Path Pawn Collection continues the excellent pawn line from Paizo. This set features the creatures, robots, androids and more that you will need to run your Iron Gods campaign. I am playing through Iron Gods at present and this set has been helpful in finding the proper pawns as needed.

Conversely, if you're not playing Iron Gods, then this set is the perfect way to bring that mad mix of sci-fi and sorcery to your homebrew. The art is gorgeous as always, the card stock is strong and colors are absolutely vivid.

This set makes a great addition to your collection while scratching that sci-fi meets sorcery itch!

Great Face Deck for Kaer Maga Campaigns & More!

5/5

The Shattered Star Face Cards Deck is perfect for any Golarion Campaign set in Kaer Maga or Varisia. I think Paizo limits the audience of their AP based decks because consumers seem to think they cannot use these cards outside of the designated AP. Conversely, I find that these AP face decks make for the perfect NPC library - especially if you're currently running a campaign through the AP setting.

For example, I'm running The Godsmouth Heresy for my players at the moment and like the Shattered Star AP, the Godsmouth Heresy is set in Kaer Maga. This makes for a great face deck as it features the Dusk Wardens, runelords and Troll Augurs of Kaer Maga. The art is colorful, gorgeous and imaginative. Pick up a deck for your game today!

GM's Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing is the GameMastery Guide to Dungeons!

5/5

I first discovered Raging Swan Press in a sort of reverse engineering sort of way. I was scanning through the third party publisher adventures available on One Book Shelf and spotted something called Shadowed Keep on the Borderland. Being a long time gamer that played through the original Keep on the Borderlands, this instantly caught my eye. Even better, you could download a free version to test run.

This introduced me to the world of Raging Swan Press and their detail oriented supplements and adventures. Time and again, I read "reviews" from what I deem lazy GMs complaining about a lack of detail in a module that requires them to fill in the blanks. Well this massive 339 page PDF is the perfect supplement for those lazy no good GMs because it gives them detail after detail after painstaking detail that can be added to any dungeon encounter.

Little did Creaighton Broadhurst (the mastermind behind Raging Swan Press) know that when he put out a call for reviews for Dungeon Dressing that he would get approached by a GM with this book sitting squarely at the top of his One Book Shelf wishlist of PDFs to purchase on the next go-round. I was offered a free copy in exchange for a review and leapt at the chance.

ENDZEITGEIST pretty much wrote the definitive reviews for the Dungeon Dressing line, so I recommend reading his reviews. For my part, this book is quickly becoming indispensable. I find that whenever I run a dungeon oriented module, that the players constantly ask questions.

"What kind of wall is it?"
"What are the doors made of ?"
"What does the inscription say?"

So on and so forth. Despite the wealth of detail and backstory that is provided in the average Paizo module or adventure path, there are limits to what can be included in a 32 page module, so the details come to an end.

And this is where the GameMastery Guide to Dungeons, I mean the GM's Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing comes into play. The wealth of information contained within this tome extends beyond mere dungeon dressing or contents to understanding why a dungeon would have been created in the first place, or explaining how to develop a megadungeon of your own.

This tome contains tables and suggestions to further develop anything your PCs find within a dungeon such as the doors, portcullises, ceilings, traps, chests, paintings, corpses, sarcophagi, treasure hoards, statues, thrones, walls, wells and even riddles!

The sheer wealth of details and information offered in this one product is nothing less than mind-boggling!

So lazy GM's rejoice! Never again will you have to leave one of your lazy whiny reviews complaining that a module didn't have enough detail for you and that you heaven forbid had to fill in the blanks, because Raging Swan Press' GM's Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing has all the details that you need to add to your dungeon and make you a GM worth a darn.

Believe it or not, but Dungeon Dressing is still at the top of my wishlist - because I want the hardback physical copy to go on my shelf.

Highly recommended. Buy it today.

Dungeons of Golarion Gives Creative GMs a Chance to Play in Paizo's Sandbox!

5/5

Dungeons of Golarion gives you a general overview of several of Golarion's most notorious dungeons. You'll get history, setting information and basic layouts of many of Golarion's deadliest dungeons including Candlestone Caverns, Hollow Mountain, Pyramid of Kamaria, Red Redoubt of Karamoss and the Zolurket Mines.

I've been crafting a module based Golarion campaign over the past year for my players and I needed Dungeons of Golarion to help provide an end game for them. Yes, I am going to send them into the Gallowspire. The only way I could do that was to find out all I could about it by reading this book.

If you want a detailed room by room report of these dungeons, you will not find it here. Lazy GMs need not apply. Honestly, lazy GMs need not play or post their lazy reviews either because half the joy of developing one's campaign is deciding which perils our PCs will brave to save the day.

Each chapter delves into its specific dungeon, offering history, encounter ideas, treasures and adventure hooks. We are shown a general map of the complete dungeon, but only one level of each is described in any detail, leaving the rest to the GM to fill in the blanks.

The world of Golarion is so rich that when these fill in the blanks moments pop up, it is really quite easy to do. You're told all you need to know to bring the dungeon to life and then given free reign to make it happen.

If you want a room by room dungeon delve, then go pick up the Emerald Spire megadungeon module. Dungeons of Golarion gives you the keys to the deadliest delves of the Inner Sea. Crack open the cover and unleash the beasts inside, if you dare.

We're Canceling the Apocalyspe and Now You Can Too!

5/5

The new Kaiju Codex from Rite Publishing is exactly what it says it is: a codex filled to the brim with Kaiju. The Kaiju monsters run the gamut from CR30 Worldshaker, all the way down to the CR8 Hubrun the Big Goblin - with all the CRs in between filled by their own Kaiju.

As if that wasn't enough, stats are also included for the Iron Knight which will allow PCs to pilot a mech-like construct into battle against the Kaiju ala Pacific Rim. It's as though this product were made for me.

In addition to the epic Kaiju scattered throughout, this book also references psionic abilities (as developed by Dreamscarred Press) so there is literally no stone left unturned. My only complaint is that I want a hard copy to sit on my shelf.

I'm already thinking of ways to incorporate this Kaiju collection into my campaign. If you want to bring the feel of massive monster movies ala Godzilla and Pacific Rim to your campaign, then this is the book for you.

Mindblast Your Campaign Right Where It Hurts!

5/5

I recently picked up a copy of Ultimate Psionics from Dreamscarred Press and found that I loved the mechanics so much that I considered the additions absolutely indispensible. Unfortunately, Paizo has yet to fully embrace these alternate psionic rules therefore there is a paucity of NPCs and monsters utilizing the psionic rules. Dreamscarred recently released both an NPC collection and their complete Psionic Bestiary containing many magnificent new psionic creatures - but there was very little info on using classic monsters with psionics.

Enter Fat Goblin Games and MINDBLAST! Classic Monsters Augmented! Now, I have a fine selection of psionic versions of several classic fantasy monsters and I absolutely love it. We get psionic versions of the bugbear, barghest, owlbear, goblin, rust monster and several more!

Mindblast! Classic Monsters Augmented perfectly supplements Dreamscarred's Psionic Bestiary and Psionics Embodied without rehashing the same material. They're designed to sit side by side and that's exactly what they do on my shelf. I love monster books and having this little supplement makes my shelf happy.

Now, when my players want to dabble in psionics, all I have to do is reach for Mindblast! Classic Monsters Augmented and flip through the pages until I find an encounter appropriate for the setting. The text and information seems error free and the art for the monsters is quite beautiful.

Highly recommended. Buy it today!

Chase Cards add Dash of Excitement & Hilarity to Pathfinder Sessions!

5/5

I put my Chase Deck to use during this weekend's session. The PC's had cornered a group of tengu as well as their ratfolk nemesis in a small room in the dungeon. No sooner do they fight their way in and start hacking tengu thieves into wormfood than their friend, the ratfolk, turns and makes a run for it.

Two of the PC's decided to follow him and the chase was on! We resolved the rest of the combat in the room and then switched to the PC's involved in the chase. I laid out a five card chase with the ratfolk already two cards ahead.

One of the PC's never made it past the first obstacle - a bat swarm. The ratfolk made a quick dash but got hung up on the last obstacle - sticky webbing! The remaining pursuing PC caught up to the ratfolk, but then got caught in the webbing. The ratfolk broke free and escaped to freedom.

The chase cards make a rather mundane speed vs speed event of gaming into a fun mini-game during the session. Because my ratfolk nemesis was able to escape, he will return to plague the PC's another day.

Thanks for adding such a fun innovation to our gaming sessions, Paizo. Keep up the good work!

Funky Card Stock but Great Selection of Faces!

4/5

The card stock on this set is a bit odd as the cards are curved and don't shuffle easily. That said, the selection of faces is excellent. There is a mix of human and demi-human faces and a few monstrous faces in between to balance it out. Since the Friends & Foes Deck is sold out, this is as close as you'll get to amassing a NPC face gallery. Don't let the funky card stock chase you off, if you need the faces for your campaign, give this a buy.

Stunning Set of Artifact Item Cards from Paizo!

5/5

This set contains the most gorgeous art pieces in the entire item card collection. The colors are vivid and the tableaus are fantastic. The artifacts contained within range from weapons to orbs to a variety of magical implements. All in all, it's a pretty thorough collection - especially when grouped with the other sets such as the Item Essentials Deck.

Three Beautiful Maps of Varisia from Cartographer Rob Lazzaretti!

5/5

If you're running your PC's through Varisia, Kaer Maga and Magnimar, then this is the map set for you. Three large foldout maps of the named areas above. Makes navigation a snap. Buy it today, before you climb into the City of Strangers.

Item Decks Make Item Drops During Play So Much More Fun!

5/5

This is a deck of standard adventure gear. The art is solid and colorful. The subjects are all quite mundane for the most part - but they're supposed to be. Makes item drops for gear during play all the more engaging because the players have something they can hold in their hands and trade back and forth. Recommended if you plan on dropping gear.

Great Looking Maps! Wide Variety of City Terrains.

4/5

This is a beautiful collection of Golarion city maps. These are large handout style maps that the players can use, but do not show the specifics of any of the cities. If you're looking for street names and landmarks, you won't find any here. What you will find is a large complete map of the city that your PCs can use to navigate through the urban sprawl.

Geographically speaking, the cities are fairly spread out so you get one from Varisia, one from Ustalav, one from Irrisen, and so on and so forth. The variety of cities brings a variety of terrains and that's what makes these maps so useful. If you ignore the names of the cities, you can use these maps for any generic city that matches the terrain of the map.

Very Stylish Elven Village Map Pack!

5/5

I really like the look of the Elven Village Map Pack. It gives the Elven home-front its own architecture that feels different from the mundane human cities.

It is what it says on the cover. If you need Elven buildings - here they are! I like to pretend that the round buildings are inside of trees - and this is the crosscut view of it.
