It's an extremely short part, that's why you each only can make 1 skill check :) Aids count towards the 1 count. So only Vina's Assess the damage will be counted.

Vina notices a couple things about the damage on the tapestry, firstly the largest holes appear around six of the regions that Pathfinder agents allegedly visited in the past few years. Overall the tapestry radiates a warm aura but despite the tapestry’s warmth, there are spots around the largest tears that are chill as a grave.

Reward: Once during the adventure, when the group encounters one or more undead opponents, the group can activate this reward to grant the PCs a +4 bonus on their initiative checks for that encounter.

It's a series of blog post starting with this talking about the new faction. https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6sgn1?Pathfinder-Society-Second-Ed ition-Preview

As I understand it, 2e is kinda like DC comics rebirth, same universe, the past has happened, but the course of the future has changed due to some sort of cosmic intervention. How did these new factions come to be? Is the blakross family still in existence? Some of the history has slightly changed? The history of the nexus house you'll soon learn is slightly different from what we previously know.

So old society happened but we're going into a new age of pathfinder society, where we start season 1 by discovering the past, starting with the mystery of the open road. This special is a great start to the season!

With Queen Skirkatla's army fractured, the Pathfinders continue press the advantage. Arrows and divine energy is fired into the path of the undeads. Devko and Theodric charge upon the Frost giant's throne and force her into submission through death by the sword. Her body immediately begins the disintegrate at an extremely rapid rate leaving behind a withered corpse of bones and her armor.

Through exploration of the side room next to the throne room, you find what appears to be a private mausoleum. Depictions of a frost giant army smashing down the walls of Kellid and Ulfen settlements and leading captives away in chains are carved in bas-relief on the east and west walls. Steps lead up the side of an enormous bier, bereft of coffin or sarcophagus, like a bed of stone. The wall above the dais is engraved with runic writing.

The wall engraving in Giant list the name, "Skirkatla Hjotunsdottir" and includes a single date: 29 Kuthona 4378 AR, along with the therm "Ashenmorn." whom the clerics easily determine is the day Skirkatla was brought into undead. But the lack of a date of death seems to suggest she turned into undead through life.

A secret door in the room leads a cache of unusual belongings but most importantly it contains a map indicating a dormant volcano in southern Mindspin Mountains, labelled "Ashpeak" in Giant along with the names "Tytarian and QUivixia" and the words "Elite Training Acadamy." Accompanying the map are a list of giant names, presumably those that stand within the village's walls. One list is designated "Advance to Elite Training" while the other states "Competency Passed - Reassignment."

To your horror, in some of the other chambers within the crypt, you find further evidence of horrible unnatural undeads, manufactured as oppose to raised, and a hall of shame bearing the skulls of fallen dwarves. The creation of undeads seem to suggest Skirkatla was building her own undead army on top of the giant army she commanded, but to what ends was she trying to achieve?

A bit more background into it, she was actually plotting to overthrow the Storm Tyrant and take his armies for her own, thus creating unique undeads you've seen here. Each undead creature has a unique backstory which is really neat, and I had to do a whole storytelling session in my live game post completion of this book to really do just to the book. If you had dwelled into the dwarven grave, you would have come to a quest in a form of a curse. It would had stopped you from leaving the crypt or meeting Skrikatla immediately, thus you would have figured the proximity of her throne for buffs, and you would have been given a cool undead bane weapon just to defeat her and would be a big help with the incorporeal, but you guys did fine without it!

Upon your return to the living world, Immediately the Pathfinders call a tactical retreat from the village. Leaving the village with a defeated leader and injured soldiers will likely disperse the training camps due to a lack of confidence in the management of it. The dragon that offered you her aid asks politely of what you have learned.

This more has an effect in campaign mode, in PFS mode, there's no repercussions that this can carry into as we run everything strictly RAW. Although with that said, there's a lot of cool things that can carry over from this book in particular, but that would be outside the scope of PFS, and can often be deadly. So it would not be fair to bring them back for PFS.

Clearly, something bigger than what you've seen here is afoot, the evidence is damning that a giant army is clearly being raised from beneath our noses, the only next lead is Ashpeak, and there is not enough time to rally an army for the course of attack. The fate of the world lies in the hands of the brave Pathfinders here today.

Brayne has enough PP for raise dead and not resurrection, spent a lot on retraining.

I understand the risk of being a Pathfinder, and building something that's somewhat specialized. Also as a GM I typically stick hard to the combat tactics of monsters, so if that's what it calls for, go for it...

I won't have any hard feelings about it but obviously i'll be really sad about it! Might eat a whole tub of ben and jerrys lol.

As a player, that whole narrow space and will save deal made me nervous, and after seeing my Will roll, am probably going regret this move. But, I have to be true to Azrael's nature. He will not sit!

OMG OMG OMG! My time to shine. Azrael can take AoO (while flat footed) due to combat reflexes, and can take an AoOs (up to 6 due to high Dex) to deflect arrows (thanks to the feat Cut from the Air) with his sword. Since Ishell is adjacent to him, he can also do it for Ishcell! My attack roll or regular AC, whichever highest vs enemies attack.

I technically should roll all as the roll is made before GM reveals results. Ischell and Azrael take no damage from arrows!

AoO, Cut From the Air: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 14 + 1 = 27
AoO, Cut From the Air: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 14 + 1 = 33
AoO, Cut From the Air: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 1 = 31
AoO, Cut From the Air: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 14 + 1 = 23

I technically should roll all as the roll is made before GM reveals results. Ischell and Azrael take no damage from arrows!

And with lightning like reflexes, as the arrows fly towards Azrael and Ischell, the Talon moves his blade fluidly between them to deflect every attack.

*Looks cool*

Alright Pathfinders, before we begin our journey, let's get some administrative and basics out of the way. First of all, I'll need your Pathfinder Information

Name: (You'd like on your chronicle sheet)
Character Name:
PFS ID and character number:
Faction:
Day job Roll:
Any unusual information about your character:

Ensure your character sheet is linked or documented in your player profile for reference.

Ensure your character has a header that includes basic information like race, class, levels, HP, ACs, Saves, Perception Mod, and (optional but ideal) resource like spells and ability trackers.

I'm going off the basis that you've read some form of PBP and understand how it works, but if any of this has confused you and if you are clueless about it, please let me know and i'll gladly guide you through it.

Just did the math, the creature is dead!

The Pathfinders turn their concentration towards the remaining shadow creature. Leveraging each of their individuals strengths, a full out attack is made with blast of air, slices of sword, and piercings of arrows. The creature is unable to defend itself amongst all the attacks and falls victim to the it's deadly wounds...

Now we sit tight for a day or two! Congrats team!

With a powerful Strike, Theodric lays to waste the Stone Giant Urathash. His fall slightly shakes the elevated platform that you stand in the centre of the cathedral.

The silence that follows is broken by a slow clapping coming from behind you. The Oracle Etena makes it just in time to witness the defeat, and slowly walks the stairs towards the forge.

In a maddening voice, she yells praises, "Yes! Yes! It has been done! Miderhal's Forge see again the light of day! We shall cleanse this temple of the non-believers who have gathered here under the banner of the Storm Tyrant!" Immediately, rising and pouring from the forge are two similar mountains of moutains of hot molten metal with sharp edges of weapons from every corner of its body. The ooze like being begins to slowly make its way towards the door , heading directly towards the congregation of giants in the field. Etena turns to you, "Be gone now! You have completed your part, and are no longer useful to me…" She scowls, not particularly unfriendly but clearly does not mean to be friendly should you not leave. More slags form themselves into hideous monsters, and it would certainly seem unwise to take her on with an army of molten metal by her side.

Before you leave, you investigate the chambers of Urathash to understand what is happening. In there, you find notes, that you don't understand, but bring back to the Pathfinder Society for further translation.

After a few days of studying the notes, it becomes clear that the Storm Tyrant named Volstus means to create an army of giants to challenge Golarion and start a new world order through the devastation of war. He resides in a flying cloud castle, which location is uncertain. And has a training camp in the frost giant village of Skirgaard where recruits from Minderhal are sent if they are deemed worthy.

With humanity at risk, the Pathfinder Society decide that there's no time to waste, but to immediatley seek out this city to learn more and stop a great evil from rising. A scouting party will is to be sent out immediately….

Feel free to ask, or retcon anything if you think there are loose ends that you want to tie up, but as far as the scenario goal is concern, you have completed it, and since we'll be largely running it Society style, your action are likely to be of no consequence, but we never know...

"But of course Garduk, I am always down for a good story... In fact, I recall my very first ghost encounter as clear as day!" Brayne goes off tangent from Garduk's introduction, leans forward from his seat, deepens his voice, and tells a totally different tale. "When I was a child, before I moved to the highlands, I attended a prep school down at Taldor. Rumours had it, the girl's restroom was haunted, the said restroom doors are grilled and chained barring from people from using it today. Girls always came out crying, said they saw an evil spirit in the mirror, and even felt sharp pains on their forearm. But the worst was when one girl left the shouting in the ancient druidic language! She had the strength 10 men! As in, it took 10 male teachers to hold her down!"

Rules for Aid Tokens!

Once per encounter, any character at a table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of the ways described below. Once a table uses an Aid Token, one of the players then passes the Aid Token to a neighboring table for them to use. A table can only benefit from one token per encounter.

If a table receives an Aid Token and doesn’t need its benefits, they’re encouraged to boost its potency by expending some of their own resources or attempting a skill check. Boosting an Aid Token, including attempting a skill check, is part of passing that Aid Token to another table. A table can neither retry such a skill check nor boost an Aid Token more than once before passing it to another table.

Allied Offensive:A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 2d8 points. In addition, after the attack, anyone attacking the target is considered to be flanking it until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn. To Boost: Succeed at an attack roll against an AC equal to an Average skill check. Boosted Effect: +1d8 points of damage.

Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 3d6 points of damage. To Boost: Expend one use of channel positive energy or cast one spell with the healing descriptor with a spell level greater than or equal to 3. A PC must cast this spell, not simply activate a wand or scroll. Boosted Effect: +2d6 points of damage healed.

Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the effects of a bard’s inspire courage (+2) bardic performance for 3 rounds. To Boost: Expend 3 rounds of bardic performance or similar ability. Boosted Effect: Increase the competence bonus by 1.

Provide Knowledge (Must Be Boosted): Gain the benefits of a Knowledge skill check or Spellcraft skill check used to identify a magical item; the type and difficulty (Easy, Average or Hard) depend on the table granting the benefit. To Boost: Succeed at a Knowledge check of your choice, the result of the check (Easy, Average or Hard) should be noted on the Aid Token.

Provide Spellcasting (Must Be Boosted): Gain the benefits of a beneficial spell cast by an ally as listed on the Aid Token. To Boost: Cast one of the following spells and note your PC’s name and caster level on the Aid Token: lesser restoration, neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease. Only these spells may be granted. Expending resources that produce the effects of these spells, such as a paladin’s mercy class feature, may also grant these benefits.

Question to the leadership team, not necessarily scenario related but was brought to my attention during the scenario.

A player has an illegal purchase. As the local venture rep where I'm from I typically force resale of full price. But that's also cause with a young PFS community, low level purchases seem inconsequential. Also since I'm one of two authority figures, most question are directed to me so I catch it on early.

This current player bought an ~18,000gp equipment and has used it for almost 5 scenarios. Having note that equipment used in advantage for high level scenarios, I'm almost inclined to think it be sold back at half price, but it was an honest mistake so half price is a big loss.

What do you guys think?

Alternatively, I could post this on the fb asiapac venture group if that's more appropriate. But Shifty will still see the question XD

Im a big fan of 2e. The simplicity and limited resources has made it very easy for me to rope in new players for my local games. In fact, ive moved to 2e in my local lodge doing on the fly translations of older scenarios. New players get daunted by the old rules and I've lost many players that way.

But yeah, to Chadius point, it was a headache to run at the time of playtest but I still had fun and will be willing to run more games once I've settled down. I'm in the midst of moving to West texas from Asia.

Liberty's Edge

I'm hoping to add to this conversation as similar questions came up as I was running my game.

At first I rolled initiative Sneak/Hide is not vs Perception Roll but that's clearly not justified with RAW sinse the sneak/hide should be against Perception DC.

Here's now how I think the ruling and relative tactics should work with regards to initiative.

Sneak vs Perception DC, if the creature's sneak is higher than PC, PCs should immediately fall below creature in initiative (the creature is unsensed and unseen, no reason to react), unless the PC was using the searching tactic. Perception roll off for initiative will just decide which PC acts first after the ambush/hidden creature acts.

Searching, If the PC was using the searching tactic, their initiative roll is also a free "seek" action (If sensed by Perception DC and search roll is higher than sneak: creature becomes Seen; If unsensed by perception DC and search roll is higher than sneak: creature becomes sensed) This would address a mechanical benefit searching has for initiative, but I'm obviously ignoring the "30 feet cone" range for seek action.

With the weekend coming to an end, I'm going to take some liberties to wrap up the quest and lead us on to the next one which we will attempt to start using 1.3 updates.

Eventually, you overcome the barbers with some good ol' butt kicking! Snips, the shop assistant that attempt to lead you into the trap watches in awe at the fight that just went down, "Ahh. Ahh." he visibly squirms, and agrees to tell you everything he knows about the Barbers and their recent activities. His explanation starts by revealing how he thought the barbers were "cool" and wanted to be part of something bigger than himself and lives a life of crime. But curiously enough, he's overheard about the recent dissapearances, namely that the local Barbers have been afraid for their lives and scrambling to figure out who is behind the murders. He adds that the Barbers’ only lead so far is that whoever is killing seems to be targeting former slaves.

You decide to turn to the unconscious bandits and see what they know about the whole ordeal.

In terms of rules, You may use a potion, heal spell (or equivalent) or administer first Aid as a skill check to bring an unconscious character back to consciousness (DC15 medicine check)

Eventually, a barber is returned to consciousness for your questioning. In addition to what you've learned, the criminal organization also knows that the former slaves are all ones freed during the Fiendflesh Siege a little over a year ago. Among those was Remna, a former scullery slave with a mean streak, who joined the Bloody Barbers and shaved part of her head after being freed, then disappeared mysteriously about a week ago. Some believe this was an act of revenge for a hired murder of a "half-elf cleric". The Barbers have questioned several witnesses to track down the rose-street killer and get revenge themselves, but the only helpful information they found was that the probable killer wore metal armor and seemed to have difficulty controlling the right side of their body.

Although the Barbers may commit numerous other crimes, they’re as much the victims as the Pathfinder Society is in the case of the Rose Street Killer. Ambrus Valsin is relieved to hear that resolving this situation won’t involve going toe to toe with such a formidable opponent, but he remains troubled that the killer is still at large. He thanks you for your investigation and ask you to rest while he pieces together his next lead.

Brayne shrugs as he is hit hard on the back! "You don't say, if we really are short handed, perhaps I try to make myself useful." Looking around, he sees a few citizen pay no attention to the situation, relaxing themselves while Pathfinders round headless around the city. Brayne's eyes turn deep black and his voice monstrous as he yells, "GET OUT NOWWWWWWWWWWWW!"

When Kiboko, Kramac, and Flyn are free again I intend to run us through where mammoths dare not tread, I anticipate it'll be two months from now? Or earlier depending on how Kramac and Kelimur do. If the others are interested, let me know. Also I should have less PBP and life commitments by then to spend more time on improving game quality.

And we are started! Just to preface this adventure, it is a combination of quest designed to introduce the mechanics of Pathfinder 2e to you. As we will be running all the Quest, I'll be doing them in the order that makes chronological sense to me. I've uploaded a Maps & Handouts link on top of the thread and on my header. Please peruse it and update some small information on to the link. And... off we go

Nearly a year ago, Absalom fought off an invasion of demonflesh constructs and undead marines remembered as the Fiendflesh Siege, during which the city’s siege lord offered every slave freedom in exchange for their assistance in defending Absalom. Practically overnight, one of the city’s cruelest industries came to an end, and many hundreds of the liberated have since become Absalom’s newest citizens.

Although most have welcomed their manumitted neighbors with open arms, an unidentified serial murderer known only as the Rose Street Killer has systematically slain at least a dozen of these freed people. So far, the city’s guards have questioned scores of witnesses and suspects with no luck. The Rose Street Killer remains at large, and one of their most recent targets was Nelfurhin Zor, a former scriptorium slave who had joined the Pathfinder Society shortly after the siege. The Society doesn’t normally investigate crimes in Absalom, but Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin is furious that a Pathfinder’s gone missing thanks to this criminal. He’s assembled a team of agents to help solve the case. Don’t let him down—lives are on the line.

A missive from the Pathfinder Society reaches you a couple hours ago. Refer to Handout 1 in the aforementioned link.

~~~
Today, you've gathered at the Pathfinder Lodge in Absalom, arguably the heart of the Pathfinder Society, at the request of the man himself, Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin. Standing before you, he flicks an invisible speck of dust from his impeccably pressed cuff before speaking.
“Thank you for finally arriving; I don’t like repeating myself. I trust you received my note, and I hope you have your wits about you. It’s all well and good for everyone in the city to concoct their own thrilling hypotheses about some serial murderer, but Pathfinders need to be a bit more…” Ambrus thinks for a moment before continuing, “… evidence based.
“To that end, I’d like you to find some low-ranking members of the Bloody Barbers and press them for information. I suspect their straight razors are ultimately to blame for the disappearances.”
Almost as an afterthought, Ambrus adds, “I shouldn’t need to tell you to be careful in dealing with Absalom’s largest thieves’ guild, but do try to avoid the old crimson shave.” He draws his thumb across his neck for emphasis. He turns and looks around the room, anticipating a few possible questions from the group.
