Keeping up as I can but LIFE man. LIFE.

Wren is taken aback to see many familiar faces, some only to Lena. Gibs Hephenus the tough in Harrowstone who succumbed to the whispers of the Splatter Man.

The blank mask of a skin-stealer, Vorkstag or Grine you think. The body-snatching chemists from Lepistadt who framed your friend the Beast.

Auren Vrood (with his head stitched back on), the great necromancer you battled in Feldgrau.

Father Albor Voltiaro a high priest of Dagon in the strange, eldritch town of Illmarsh. Near him you see the witch Aisa who you slew along with her sister at the end of the strange vampiric adventure in Caliphas.

Beyond this villain's gallery of your fallen enemies, you see your own faces molded onto the bodies. Not just your own, but those of Eldon, Arval, the tengu face of Kawrock, a cute little gnome, and a stateusque bald monk among others that Lena vaguely recalls over this long insane journey.

Regeris remains silent as he keeps his distance from the children and remains near Kayleigh. This was inevitable. We will make a difference. I know it. Milani is with us. What a blessing and curse this fog.

Once the group sans Emi reaches the safe house Regeris pulls back his hood and drops the pack of his meagre possessions on the ground. "I wanted to see if they would take the children but they either will or they won't. Witnessing the act doesn't change it."

He blinks and looks around for Majenko. If he can find the little house drake - "Majenko can you go watch the temple and see if they are taking the children away? If they do, can you let us know where?"

Lena sneaks up on the stoned cultists. One blearily looks over to her.

"Hey... hey! It's a teeny person!" They all start laughing. "You here for a good time gnomey? Wanna zoom with Casper?"

Another one elbows him roughly. "Those are those adventurers, we gotta get 'em!"

Having explored these miserable catacombs as much as you can, you head back to the main room where you fought a bunch of stuff, and strike out southwards.

After opening the door you hear a bunch of gasps, hooting, and giggling from the south. Peering into the room you see the following.

Dirty rugs and torn pillows cover the floor of this natural cavern,
and a thick, heavy fog pervades the air, glowing with the faint flicker of candlelight and carrying with it an unusual stench of moldering chrysanthemums. Everywhere stare the mortared skulls of the dead.

You see several monks in this room, passing around glass items that contain swirling energies. Lena recognizes these as haunt siphons, which she last saw all the way back at Harrowstone - small bottles that can be used to trap haunts.

One of the monks quickly opens and then closes the siphon and then huffs deeply. He lets out a whoop and falls back, his eyes glowing as he gets a rush off of a burst of ghost energy. Everyone laughs hysterically.

Thanks to this group huffing ghosts, you have not been noticed yet.

Well and beyond intent there's the question of harm and what it means.

Cultural appropriation is a problem because there's serious real-world implications for the erasure of someone's identity and replacement with some kind of cartoonish stereotype in terms of how they're treated but also sense of self and the trauma that comes from that. Talk to any Indigenous person and you'll get an earful about that.

One thing I like about Pathfinder is it gets the concepts of empire, power dynamics, and at least some stabs at colonialism. I'm running Age of Ashes which has an entire chapter with Mwangi based around Indigenous elves there and they like... have a society that's interesting and there's a British explorer who is a ludicrous villain. It's clumsy but well-meaning and felt too fantasy to be exploitative although I'm not exactly the expert.

Honestly the big thing I do is identify and steer away from well-identified and harmful tropes, ensure the NPC locals have agency and identity, and focus on concepts of power that aren't uh... solely mystical or exotic but instead very human and flawed and relatable. Get rid of the othering, but your anthro background should help a lot with that.

Hrm. I'm going to give Wren a break here because although she doesn't have any explicitly like trap sense, this is also not explicitly a trap and this is a save or die effect so I'm lenient. Also Pot Pie has SR according to Elena's level, which is good.

Wren's Perception Check: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
Caster Level Check vs PotPie: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

Wren lets out a squawk of absolute alarm as she realizes a very, very bad thing is about to happen. She flees at top speed out of the tunnel before the rest of the group can even react before the water splashes into them.

Although Pot Pie is nearly drowned, the chicken makes it out alright.

Waiting on Bronin to make his rolls!

Basically it's a Tien afterlife that's the site of an eternal battle between Yaezhing and General Susumu. Short of it is because your parents were ninjas there's some worry that they may go to an evil afterlife to take part in an eternal war between two evil deities. Yaezhing is the the Tien God of murder and patron of ninjas and assassins.

Sevenspawn nods feebly over to Thod while Raven Six tries some of her spooky stuff on the assassin. She notices a very, very slight hint of worry at the unknown arts.

As Raven holds the armour, she receives her visions. Snatches of a life in the streets of some far southern country, then of training, then of killing. Endless killing. A more elaborate vision appears before her.

---

Three large stone vats sit in alcoves in this room. Each is big enough to hold a human, but apart from a strange blue residue caking the insides of each, they are empty. A cot and a writing desk sit amid the vats—awkward additions of comfort in what once seems to have been a strange laboratory.

A beautiful, red-haired woman holds ornate knives and paces before the bearer of the armour, who turns to see three red mantis colleagues beside her.

"Neolandus has vanished. These four "heroes" are the new target. The dwarf Thod, the halfling Donnell, the woman Raven Six, and the former Dead King Sevenspawn. Watch Raven Six, we are studying her. There is something to her nature. Our client sees them as a great threat. You will be defeated in this mission, they are too much for you. We will learn from your defeat."

----

Raven Six detects a faint aura of evil from the assassin as she studies her.

Hey everyone.

SO. My life circumstances have changed a little bit and unfortunately I have to scale back my games. I hate starting games and being unable to finish them but I have to mothball one of my games and it has to be this one. My others are all multi-year commitments I've put too much time in to stop now.

Unfortunately, that means I'm going to make the call to cancel this game. I'm really sorry to do this as I posted with the intention of finishing but I was recently elected president of my union and it has seriously cut into my free time and energy in my spare time.

Thanks so much for playing such fun and interesting characters and coming along with me on this ride. I'm so sorry to do this but I'd rather close things down than string you along and be unable to keep up a posting rate and quality that I'd want from a GM.

Storn lets out a roar of disapproval. "DAMNIT QUILL WE HAD MORE GIANTS TO KILL!" He looks at Quill in utter disbelief, ready to just beat the crap out of the elf and haul him along to the next location personally.

I'm going to read the rest of the group's caution being that you hang back and let Bronin open the door. Because I'm NICE.

Also to clarify (and I messed this up) we're at Renchurch Cathedral. NOT gallowspire.

Bronin walks up to the door while everyone smiles encouragingly at him. As he touches it, the predictable trap goes off and blades scythe out at Bronin.

Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 20 = 32 Damage: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 8, 2) + 3 = 19

He dives to the ground with multiple lacerations, but honestly - he's had far worse. Tis but a scratch. As the blades all scythe back into place, the group hurries into Renchurch.

The crumbled remains of a collapsed belfry litter the eastern side of the once-fine tessellated floor of this ruined processional, the shards of broken bells protruding at sharp angles from the rubble. A half-collapsed archway reveals a massive congregational chamber in the darkness beyond. The faint hint of whispered murmurs pervades the stale air like leathery bat wings.

The interior is windowless but well lit by continual flames burning out of skulls nailed to the walls. There is an intense sense of dread in this place. It is very, very bad.

As you step in and inhale scent of a place that is very, very bad...

Lena's Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Lena lets out a yelp as she is hauled from teh ground by some unseen force! She dangles upside-down by her foot before the force flings her at high speed at Wren.

Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 4

Wren squawks and avoids the flung halfling as Lena soars across the room, colliding into a wall and groaning.

A door leads northwards while the dim light of the torhces reveals the large interior nave of the cathedral to your east.

You are not in combat right now as this appears to be a "force" of some kind within the cathedral rather than a creature.

Realizing what's going on, Regeris reaches into his pack and produces his own battered copy before offering it to Ishan. "We're going to be working together more. You should read what we believe. No shame in that. This has my own notes - an Abadarian's own eye."

Hearing Kayleigh call out, Regeris quickly moves to lock up the shop. "Find anything?!" he calls out. "There were some ominous doors Emi and I didn't check because of the spider monster and everything!"

Regeris lets out a wild cheer as Emi and Tassira destroy the spider-creature and clock, briefly grabbing Emi byt he shoulders in an embrace. "That was brilliant!"

He's all business just as quickly as Nebbin hauls in their prisoner and Regeris' face falls.

"Tie her up. I don't want to waste any more time with this madness."

He stalks towards the woman. "I am an inquisitor of the Everbloom and I will not have your evil ilk terrorize this city. I will know your mind. You are going to answer my questions now."

With a wave of his hand, a strange red glow appears briefly in Regeris' eyes before fading.

"The rose is in my eyes now and I will see all who lie. Your answers will determine your fate. What is the Brotherhood?"

Using discern lies.

Hey guys so I've been dealing with an underlying health issue I'm getting treated but the result has been I've been sick and thus unable to keep to a regular posting schedule which has resulted in some stop/start in games that's certainly been frustrating for me, and unfair to you guys.

I'm going to take a proper break for a little while to ensure the game can post regularly. Hopefully just a week or so but I'll update at that point.

This is still a game I am committed to for the long haul, and part of a multi-year commitment means sometimes taking a proper break to reset and come back energized. Thanks for hanging in there. I'll check in next week.

Sorry wild few days.

Taking Alara's arm, she primly starts to etch with her nail. Alara gasps in pain as a magical sigil appears on her arm. "Oh hold still," she snaps. Finally the glyph is complete.

"There, if you fall in combat, a lovely cocoon will wrap itself around you to heal you. The magic will fade in three days. This is -my own- healing ability, so use it wisely."

You can cast breath of life once as a spell-like ability, which will wrap you in a cocoon while the spell is cast.

With Salighara's boon, she waves you at the scriptorum. "Now ... do whatever it is you sword-people do! I'll be here."

You make your way to the scriptorum, and poke your head into the entrance.

Two wooden doors, deeply carved with images of quill pens and open
books, stand to the east and west of this entry hall.

The double door to the west has frosted glass windows that reveal only shifting shadows behind them.

To the north is an alcove with several empty coat hooks.

Another door stands to the south, and a sharply angled hall leads to the southwest.

Sorry wild few days.

Milo stabs the wofl once but then Osveta just loses her s$@$ and hacks the remaining wolf to bits. Thankfully, Pollo seems to be okay - he just got all sorts of bit up.

End of Combat

The wolves are now dead and as you deal with your wounds you find yourself looking at a glowing, oily pool in the centre of the den.

"I can beat it up and point it at the furnace?" he offers helpfully. He then snaps his fingers.

"No we got that... thingy. Right?"

Storn drops his giant bag of pressies and dives into it, rifling around before producing a big spiralling horn..

"This thing makes dragons like it, right?"

A note on wands:

Wands in PF2 are very different, and weaker (a big design decisino was to get rid of the CLW juice phenomenon). They way they work is:

- The spell must be on your spell list (or you have trick magic device)
- You can then cast the spell at level once per day. The spell uses your own spell DC and stat bonuses.
- You can then 'overcharge' and recast the spell one more time with a DC 10 flat check. Success, the wand is broken (and repairable). Failure, the wand is destroyed.

Whoops yeah that was Elena.

The last nightmare easily falls, causing Whiskeyjack to redirect to beat on the Cauchmear's head with his mighty warhammer.

However it is Bronin, finally ahorsed upon his steed, who saves the day as he and Patience become a whirling dervish of death. Blow upon blow rains down on the cauchemar as Bronin sweeps under it again and again, stabbing upwards into its flank.

Finally it begins to veer and Patience leaps into the air. Time seems to stall as the mighty lord and his big horse perfectly capture the red sun behind them before his blade comes down into the neck of the cauchemar, killing it instantly. It crashes to the ground, dead.

"A DRAGON?!" Zeepelstorn's eyes light up with absolute delight. A tear the size of Chwaer wells up in one of storn's eyes and plummets to the ground below.

"GORUM BE PRAISED IT'S A MIRACLE! I GET TO FIGHT A DRAGON! I have been praying for so long."

Storn goes -directly- towards the cave. You can feel his massive body quivering with antici...

Ridill's staff clobbers Vithiz. The giant bug-man starts shrieking in his bugly way as he wavers rapidly before with a shwooop his form blurs and is drawn into the lantern at the end of the staff. As that happens there's a

And a weird-looking guy with a snail's shell on his back pops out of the staff and hits the ground.

@Gigon in addition.

Osveta thwacks the bush, having had enough of the group getting their ass kicked by a salad. Anghariel puts an end to it with another produce flame. The final bloodlash bush goes up in a torrent of flame, and is finally done for.

Storn is almost certain Kipa has gone to a better place, like the afterlife after getting killed by a giant. He smiles fondly as he think of his friend's certain death and that he's probably stealing stuff in whatever halfling heaven is. Probably a place full of traps to find.

Storn glances at Sander, shrugs, and wets the clay. "Sure, maybe it's holy water or something. Can't tell for sure without a handy zombie to dip in it."

Okay, so. Hero points.

They're a core mechanic in PF2 and something I've got in the rhythm of using frequently with my in-person games. They haven't been picked up much in PbP so I'm going to try to implement my own system for them.

1. Hero points reset now. Everyone has one hero point.

2. I am going to create a sidebar in the google slides doc which will show your current hero point totals per PC. That means every time you look at the battle map, you will see hero points.

3. Hero points will reset every 28 days or four weeks, subject to discretion since you may get stuck in long combats. I'm going to see how this works in terms of pacing.

4. I will attempt to reward hero points more readily but please nominate each other for hero points. The game is more fun when the system is used.

---

Now on use of hero points, you will normally be asked to use hero points within your own post. Just like you hit 'preview' to see if you critted and adjust the post accordingly, so too will you be expected to use hero points for reroll. Using them to prevent dying will be done normally.

Let's see how this works.

Game update coming tonight.

The group starts beating around the bush as Osveta's huge greatsword scythes off massive amounts of one of the bushes. Pollo and Milo are much less fortunate as they stab repeatedly into the bushes with little luck.

Osveta (-12) (1 persistent)
Gigon
Anghariel
---
Bloodlash:
Red (-27)
Yellow
