Kenabres, Gate District - Defender's Heart Stables

Arthur is visibly relieved at Dragz's response.

"It's a bit hazy for all of us, I believe." Arthur glances quickly at the billowing smoke outside the city.

"A friend of ours owns a camel he believes to be in those stables. He asked us to find it." The corner's of Arthur's mouth bend into a frown as he eyes the half-orc. "Though judging by your state, I don't have high hopes that it survived."

Arthur strides toward the stable door and stops suddenly. "I apologize, my name is Arthur and this Iomenna. We, and a few others, have holed up in the Defender's Heart. We'd be happy to have you two."

I don't remember if Dragz and Iomenna met before in the tavern, feel free to retcon my post c:

Arthur nods in agreement as Iomenna devises a plan and heads toward the stables.

Once they're within a few yards of their destination, a loud voice calls out, "You who approach! name yourself or be considered a foe!"

Arthur instinctively hides behind his armored companion and shouts over her shoulder, "I assure you we are no demons and we mean you no harm"

Kenabres, Gate District - Defender's Heart

Arthur lets Iomenna do the talking as a dagger-wielding Keleshite appears behind them. His attention turns to Kelly, however, as she looks to the sky.

"They're burning the fields. What are we going to eat?" Her voice echoing the fear in Arthur's own mind.

He places a hand on Kelly's back to help stabilize her and turns to face the two humans.

"I think that is a more pressing issue" Arthur points away from the city where columns of smoke rise above the walls. "We need to get inside the Defender's Heart. Food is scarce now. That will likely lead whatever survivors are left to raid and loot what they can. Also, knowing what I do of Demons, there are almost certainly stragglers around picking off the living. I think our best bet now is to stay inside and-"

A loud, low rumble interrupts Arthur and his eyes grow wide. "I'm not sure what that was, but I doubt it's friendly, let's go."

Thanks! I'm really excited for this, it's the first PbP I've ever done c:

Kenabres, Gate District - Defender's Heart

Arthur's perception slowly comes in to focus as Iomenna shoves his backpack into his arms. He turns as she yells out this window. Not wanting to test the stairs or waste any time, Arthur quickly retrieves a grappling hook and silk rope from his bag and firmly attaches it to the windowsill.

Climb: 1d20 ⇒ 2

(DC is 0, but still)

Arthur awkwardly slides down the rope, Iomenna close behind, and nervously looks around before approaching the halfling. Her eyes are vacant, as though her conscience is elsewhere. "Kelly? Are you alright?" After the words left his mouth, he rolled his eyes at his own stupidity. Of course she isn't alright, no one is.

That's what I was looking for, thanks ^_^

I didn't realize before this that kingdom building was a thing that Pathfinder had rules for.

Amidst the horror that was once Kenebres, Arthur saw something, no, someone. A halfling stood among the rubble covered in gore and clutching a knife. He wanted to call out to her, to say anything, but he couldn't move, much less speak.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Arthur almost fell over as the frantic knocking on his door snapped him to his senses. He heard a voice from the other side, but his mind was too foggy to understand the words. He shuffled across the small room for what felt like an eternity and grabbed the handle with a near skeletal hand. Upon opening the door he locked eyes with a human woman.

I remember her.. From last night. Was it really last night? What is her name? I remember her-

Arthur's thoughts were interrupted by the muscular woman stepping toward him, shouting, "Arthur! The city!" She continued to speak, but Arthur's mind was still reeling from his new reality. Soon his companion realized he wasn't listening and stopped. Arthur looked to the window then back to the woman in his doorway. He managed a single word, "Halfling."

I just realized I wrote this in past tense, I'll go back to present tense since that's what we used in the previous thread.

Arthur awoke in a small room, decorated with only a small table by the bed he was on. As he shook the sleep from his head, Arthur tried to recall what happened last night.

I must still be in the tavern.. Arthur massaged his temple as he sat up.

In almost total darkness, he walked slowly over to a curtained window. He moved the curtain and his eyes worked to readjust themselves to the light.

"My gods.." Arthur's knees went weak and his jaw hung open as he took in the scene outside.

Destruction. Chaos. Death.

All the studying in the world could not have prepared him for this.

Where can I find the rules for this kinda thing? I know this is a more RP oriented thread, but I like rules :b

I'm not really sure what that all will entail, but if it means I get to RP with you wonderful folks some more, I'm all in!

Congrats! I'm off to study in the libraries of Kenabres. I'm sure I'll get the chance to put my knowledge to use soon.

This was fun guys, thanks c:

Here I thought you were in a different timezone because you posted the thread at, like, 3 am, Asmodina :b

Wise words, Merlin.

Eeeeeeeeee! So excited!

As I am currently unconcious, I agree with Bahram by default.

Arthur stands up to join in the dancing, but not before a multicolored cloud washes over him. As soon as he makes it to his feet, the alcohol in the cloud hits the lightweight like a greathammer.

Arthur trips and falls gracelessly on the floor unconscious.

Arthur turns to Aberus. At the mention of uncomfortable chairs, he stretches his own legs under the table "Farewell, friend. I have no doubts we'll see each other again before this Armasse is over."

Turning to Merlin, Arthur smiles. "It's a pleasure. What use is knowledge if it isn't shared?"

@Merlin

Arthur's attention follows Uriel as he explains to Miles the differentiation between Gods and Empyreals.

"Honestly, I don't know much about the upper planes. My study focuses primarily on the lower. Though, I suppose it makes sense that an aasimar would be well versed the goings on of heaven while a tiefling understands the inner workings of hell." Arthur points to himself as he makes his latter statement.

"I have done my best to resist the temptations inherent to my heritage, but I suppose that whether we like it or not, the circumstances of our birth play some role in who we are."

Listening to Aberus and Telerin, Arthur nudges Merlin, giving him a reassuring smile.

"See? There's always more to learn, especially in a place like this."

Arthur turns to the Paladin as he approaches. "What you say is true. Religion is not my field of expertise, so please excuse my inaccuracies. I suppose it is a difference in ideals that divides the gods, and consequently mortals. I hesitate to declare any view as the only correct option, but I doubt that surprises anyone coming from a follower of Irori."

Arthur's smile is replaced by a furrowed brow as he looks to the Aasimar, then to Aberus. Addressing them both, he speaks, "I know Irori ascended after achieving total perfection. It is written in the Azvadeva Pujila. I know little about Serenrae, however. What can you tell me of this 'Rough Beast' business?"

Merlin wrote:
"So you two must not be from here. Where are you from and what are your plans after the festival?"

"As far as I'm concerned, Kenabres is where I come from. Though I've only been here few years, I've never called any other place home." Arthur takes a deep breath, "As to my plans, well, I have studied Demons and various other extra-planar entities very closely for quite a while. This is the best place for me to put that knowledge to work. Similar to Aberus, I am here for the crusaders, though to educate as best I can. Knowing is half the battle, after all."

An Elven woman approaches as Arthur finishes speaking and addresses Merlin. She explains many things about Serenrae and inquires about the boy's Elven heritage. Arthur's eyebrows raise at the mention of "human and other being's gatherings" being "so very loud and boisterous."

She is an elf, however. Who knows how many of my lifetimes she has lived. I should not judge her too harshly, and I can understand her affinity for books.

Arthur's thoughts are interrupted by the Half-Drow speaking up. He listens thoughtfully as she brings up interesting points regarding the gods.

"I am no cleric, but in my experience as a follower of Irori, the younger gods seem to want to fix things and change things. Case in point: Iomedae. She has only recently - as far as gods are concerned - reached divinity. She still sees the world from a very short-term mindset. In contrast, older gods such as Irori have seen empires come and go. They understand that there is a much, much larger picture to keep in mind."

@Merlin: Yer a wizard, Harry.

Nodding as Aberus shares some wisdom with Merlin, Arthur leans close to the table and speaks quietly, "Iommedae's servants mean well, they really do. It's just that their quest for vengeance too often blinds their judgement."

Arthur turns to Aberus, seeing his brow lower and jaw tighten slightly, he adds "Some of us have regretfully experienced that side of her clergy."

As the Half-Drow approached, Arthur felt the patrons around him tense slightly. Being spawned from the depths of hell, he knew that feeling well.

"Hi Merlin..." The woman's words trailed off as a cough racked her body. Arthur reached out a hand to stabilize her and help her to the fourth chair at their table.

"Hello, Siobhan. I haven't seen you since I left for my military training. How are you?" Merlin greeted the newest arrival.

What an Armasse this is turning out to be.

Arthur hears Aberus start a joke as he draws his attention to a gathering of aasimar at the bar, "Nevermind."

Arthur responds with a hearty laugh.

Aberus rolls his eyes at Arthur and continues the conversation "I'm sorry, good Merlin. Please, go ahead."

Hearing Merlin's story, Arthur's face softens.

"If anyone understands the struggle of losing a loved one, as you have, it is Aberus and I" Arthur says as he rests a hand on the young man's shoulder. "I grew up on the streets never having known my parents, and Aberus' father died when he was young, leaving behind a grief-stricken home. We both found a way to better ourselves despite our histories through our faiths." Arthur looked Merlin in the eyes. "I think that's where you are right now."

Arthur saw much of his young self in the Half-Elf. The pain, loss, and confusion he saw in the boy's eyes were all too familiar to him. Whatever his path, Irori, guide his steps.

Arthur smiled "But I'm rambling again, I apologize, we have an Armasse to celebrate!"

Aberus greets Arthur as he takes his place at the table, "Arthur, this is Merlin. Merlin, please meet my good friend Arthur, orator and scholar extraordinaire!"

Arthur hesitates in surprise "My friend, you are too kind!"

Shifting his gaze to the young Half-Elf, Arthur reaches out a hand in greeting "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. As Aberus has informed you, I am a scholar and orator, but I assure you, he is the extraordinary one."

Though Aberus had only recently come to Kenabres, he had already proved crucial in much of Arthur's research. The cleric's knowledge of the divine and fluency in both abyssal and celestial aided him immensely. Arthur was most impacted by how his friend treated others, however. He was so very quick to forgive and willing to sacrifice for those around him.

Arthur's thoughts transition to the present as he shakes Merlin's hand.

"You seem awfully young, well, for a Half-Elf, that is. What brings you to the Worldwound?"

A pale, gaunt figure enters the tavern. Once adjusted to the light, his eyes scan the room

Aberus said he would meet me here

Once his friend is located, a smile traces its way across Arthur's face.

"There you are, Aberus!"

Arthur weaves through the crowd to join Aberus at his table. Once seated, he asks a passing barmaid for some bread and water.

"Y'know, however much I enjoy these festivities," Arthur motions around the room "I am more eager to finally put our training to use out there." Arthur's gaze drifts to a tapestry on the wall depicting demons and knights locked in battle.
