About Alaros VattzMythweavers sheet for Professor Alaros Vattz personality:
Confident, intellectual, verbose, mildly charming, rebellious/dislikes being told what to do. He is logical, and while he tries to be empathetic, he often can't help having a problem solving point of view to other people's problems. So he often ends up giving not "emotional support", but rather advice on ways to deal with the problem(s) or how best to continue on. This has led to many disgruntled people. As such he often keeps his emotions hidden, and often times does not say entirely what he is thinking at the time because he knows his actual thoughts would certainly hurt many a persons feelings. As he gets older though, he has started to care less about that. He loves the quiet solitude of ancient ruins/tombs etc, as it lets him think easier, he doesn't feel the need to constantly be focused, rather he usually wants to be at those times. Not to say he can't find his way around a social event or that he has trouble connecting to people. Contrary, he is unafraid to start conversation or speak to people. Often times, he speaks his mind, and will go out of his way to avoid "small talk". Preferring conversations or debates on something worth talking about. He often sees his ideas in many areas as carrying more weight than others due to his studious past, but is willing to listen, if their ideas and thoughts make logical sense. He works sporadically, sometimes getting almost nothing done as he gets lost in his thoughts, other times he has boundless energy as he pursues his interests. He is as captivated with discussions of philosophy and the future as he is with studies on the ancient past. He is normally the INTP-A type from myers briggs test, though everything was within 10% of the median save Thinking which was 75%. In other words an assertive Logician. While not his stength, he was grown fond of spinning tall tales, and has learned enough of tarot card reading that he can provide an adequate show, even if his readings are not particularly true. Appearance:
Image for Alaros He has salt and pepper hair, yet he is not even 30 years of age. This often makes him appear older than he is to many people.
motivations:
After spending years under the tutelage of renown archaeologist, Alaros taught for a couple years himself. He enjoyed it all right, but nothing compared to that thrill of danger delving into tombs and ruins. The excitement and elation of discovering ancient relics or artifacts. None of it came close however, to those few times he glimpsed actual history from the items he held. Not to mention the money one could make from such artifacts to the proper buyers. Of course, those funds often went right back into funding further dig-sites, tomb delving or spelunking expeditions. Due to his independent nature, he brings few people with him whenever he goes ruin delving, and has had to, on more than one occasion, disable traps set to keep others out himself. It was a learning experience, of which he has the scar from the spike to prove it. He seeks to uncover the history held within the tombs, and find other Items such as his blade and the tarot card deck and glasses he discovered on his several archaeological surveys. Ones that give him hints of times untold, ones with which he can form a link with of sorts. Background:
Alaros always had a penchant for abandoned places. He never seemed afraid to explore abandoned houses, caves, or anything of the like when younger. He often would bring back veritable trash or a pretty rock to show his folks. Eventually, when he was older and still more than intrigued by ruins and abandoned places he went to study at a small academe for historical scholars and archaeologists who worked in minor tandem with the pathfinder association. It was here, after a little over a year that he came under the personal tutelage of a one Davien Solaar. One of the most prominent scholars and professors at the Academe. He would accompany Professor Davien on several excursions and help around several dig sites as an assistant over the next few years. At 22, Alaros "graduated" and was offered a position as a Professor at the Academe due to his far above average marks, and for showing himself a high quality archaeologist. He accepted the offer and would spend another 4 years working as a professor, and functioning as an archaeologist alongside his prior Professor. The Academe would send him, sometimes in tandem with Professor Davien to ruins and tombs they uncovered. Usually, the fighting was left to guards, either hired or those sent by the Pathfinder Society. However, there were times where Alaros had to fend for himself against undead, vermin, or other such creatures known to inhabit such abandoned areas. It was in an ancient crypt of elven make where he cam across his favored weapon. A black steel blade that had kept its edge. However, it seemed the ages had long since eroded any magical enhancements on the weapon. A little under two years ago, Alaros left his jobs at the Academe to follow his own goals and heart. searching any area rumored to house a potential lead to tombs or ancient ruins. He had grown weary of the Academe claiming any and all interesting historical relics or artifacts, along with a large portion of the fame and monetary reward. This along with him being sick of being told how to go about his job by people with no real idea what they are talking about was what led to him leaving. After being told about he opening of the tombs a year ago by Davien, Alaros spent the remaining time learning the language of the land he would be traveling to, specifically its written language, and its more ancient cousins. While he is exceptionally fluent in reading, he still has a hard time using the language to communicate verbally. He sees the opening of the tombs in Wati as a chance to not only find interesting history and artifacts, but as a way to finally make a name for himself. He has also taken up practicing Alchemy as a hobby, as many alchemical items proves exceptionally helpful when excavating ruins, tombs, and caves. Occulist Implements, resonant powers, and focus powers.:
Implement: Transmuation, Item: Weapon(longsword) Resonant Power(s): Each time the occultist invests mental focus into a transmutation implement, the implement grants the following resonant power. The implement’s bearer gains the benefits of this power until the occultist refreshes his focus. Physical Enhancement (Su) The implement enhances its bearer’s body. When you invest mental focus in the implement, select a physical ability score. The implement grants a +2 temporary enhancement bonus to that physical ability score for every 3 points of mental focus invested in the implement (to a maximum of +2 at 1st level, plus an additional 2 for every 6 occultist levels you possess). Base Focus Power: All occultists who learn to use transmutation implements gain the following focus power. Legacy Weapon (Su) As a standard action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus and touch a weapon to grant it an enhancement bonus. The bonus is equal to 1 + 1 for every 6 occultist levels you possess (to a maximum of +4 at 18th level). Enhancement bonuses gained by this ability stack with those of the weapon, to a maximum of +5. You can also imbue the weapon with any one weapon special ability with an equivalent enhancement bonus less than or equal to your maximum bonus by reducing the granted enhancement bonus by the appropriate amount. The item must have an enhancement bonus of at least +1 (from the item itself or from legacy weapon) to gain a weapon special ability. In either case, these bonuses last for 1 minute. Implement: Conjuration, Implement Item: Compass/Lantern Resonant Power(s): Each time the occultist invests mental focus into a conjuration implement, the implement grants the following resonant power. The implement’s bearer gains the benefits of this power until the occultist refreshes his focus. Casting Focus (Su) The implement empowers the bearer’s ties to the worlds beyond, allowing his spells to maintain their power for a longer period of time. The bearer can add the implement as an additional focus component to any conjuration spell he casts that has a duration measured in rounds per level. If he does so, he adds 1 to his caster level for every 2 points of mental focus stored in the implement (to a maximum bonus equal to your occultist level). This increase applies only when determining the duration of the spell. Apply this increase after other effects that adjust a spell’s duration, such as Extend Spell. Base Focus Power: All occultists who learn to use conjuration implements gain the following focus power. Servitor (Sp) As a standard action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to summon a servitor. This ability functions as summon monster I, but you can use it only to summon a single creature, and the effect lasts for 1 minute. At 4th level and every 3 levels thereafter, the level of the summon monster spell increases by 1, to a maximum of summon monster VII at 19th level. You can’t have more than one servitor in effect at a time. At any time, you can expend 1 point of mental focus as a free action to extend the duration of an active servitor by 1 minute.
