Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon attempts to bull rush the bandit off the platform.

Bull Rush: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Okay, can I just confirm what he is wearing and holding then? Maybe it's the description of his sword hitting a "leather" tunic that's confusing me.

Aedon pauses, clearly irritated that his blow misses.

I'm going to provide an AoO attack roll in case the bandit does something to deserve it. Aedon's action will depend on the bandit's actions.

AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
AoO Confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
AoO Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
AoO Damage if Confirm: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Just to clarify something - Aedon was not seen by the bandit per the description above, but a 14 on his attack roll misses? I'm fine if that's the case, it just changes what Aedon would do next round. Thanks!

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Aedon intends to attack if at all possible this round.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

These are the actions I posted for Aedon.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Attack, shortsword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage, shortsword: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage, sneak attack (if needed): 1d6 ⇒ 2

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Aedon first tries to see if anyone notices him, attempts to stay hidden, then continues the same direction he was heading and attacks the man he saw earlier.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Attack, shortsword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage, shortsword: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage, sneak attack (if needed): 1d6 ⇒ 2

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Thread dropped into archives and stopped updating for me, sorry for the delay.

I misunderstood the significance of the ropes leading away from the platform. Aedon would indeed attempt to use the ropes to cross to the other platform instead of climbing down, around, and (hopefully) back up again. Thanks for asking!

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Still here as well!

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon is quickly becoming more and more of a scout/spy/warden/person-who-does-things-outdoors kind of character. Definitely not my intention when creating him, but I like the fact that he's growing in a different direction than what I originally intended, so I'll probably head that way with him. He'll still be a "rogue" for class purposes.

Mark me down as ambivalent for new people - I'm fine with our current core, but I wouldn't be opposed to new people if the DM thinks we need them.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon watches the area intently before proceeding.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

When he reaches the other ladder, he repeats his performance:

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

If he's sleeping, don't I get a coup de grace?

If so, that would be:
Damage, shortsword: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage, shortsword: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon carefully avoids the tree, not trusting the strange rune-carved stone.

He attempts to discern whether or not the person on the other platform is asleep or not (perception), then climbs back down the ladder (stealth).

Upon reaching the ground, he looks at the rest of the group, points up to the platform, holds up 1 finger, then draws his thumb across his throat. He then points up to the platform again, then points toward the other one, again holding up 1 finger.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon climbs up the rope ladder.

Intent is to climb up the ladder, stab anybody on the platform, all while remaining as stealthy as possible. Rolls below.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Attack, shortsword (if necessary): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Attack, shortsword, critical hit confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage, shortsword: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage, shortsword: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

@DM: Don't think there is anything below dim lighting, it's either dim or dark. Basically, if there is light in the sky, then it's dim. I'm fine either way, Aedon's actions won't change regardless. :)

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

I assume Aedon can't see anybody on the platform?

And is the forest really thick here, or just the lighting - if it's just dim, would Aedon's low-light vision come into play at all for what he's seeing?

Aedon turns to the others and silently indicates the rope ladder, then points up at the platform.

He then points to himself, then up the rope, then nods his head yes, then no, then puts his arms out to the side, and shrugs.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon leads the way toward the bandit camp, attempting to follow the trail left by the man and his son.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

I'm still here.

Aedon is ready to head to the bandit camp.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Still here, just checking in.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon is lost in his thoughts...

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon finishes preparing his equipment then leads his mount to a tree and loosely ties its reins to a low branch, ensuring there is enough grass around for it to graze for a few hours.

Moving toward Lyster, Aedon slows and looks at him, "Dissent among the ranks? That would imply our little band is a group of common purpose and mutual respect. And we don't have that, do we?"

He turns sharply and walks past Kari saying,

Sylvan:
"I'm ready to go."

Aedon makes his way back toward he spot where he first saw the man and his son. Finding it, he sits down, staring into the distance, waiting on the others to finish their preparations.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon stares at Rufus for a long minute before shaking his head, "I'm truly sorry, my Lord, I thought you were soliciting opinions from the rest of us. I prostrate myself at your feet for daring to disagree with you. Please, continue to pile the derision upon my slender shoulders, for I am a womanly sort, and enjoy being put in my place by strong men such as yourself."

Aedon completes a low bow, then heads toward his horse, pulling equipment out, preparing it for the upcoming battle.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon responds to the man, "We were attacked by several bandits a few days ago. We slew them, and now we're heading for their camp to deal with the rest of them. That's why we attacked - we thought you were bandits."

Aedon pauses for a moment to let that sink in, "Your boy is fine, go see to him. But don't anything stupid, just sit down by him and give us a minute. Be patient and you'll live."

Stepping away to speak with the rest of the party, Aedon listens as Rufus speaks. "Don't look at me, you're the one who shot him. But taking them with us? You're thinking we should put an old man and his boy into danger so they can hold our horses? I'd rather have my horse wander off, any bandits who see them with us will likely think them traitors, and may try to target them for it. Better to let them wait here, or send them to the hollow where we camped last night. We can pick them up on the way back to Oleg's."

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Nothing to add

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Spoiler:
Aedon looks over toward Kari and speaks loudly enough for the crying bandit to hear him, "Do you have the flint and tender? We have to get that fire going to heat those brands up. And where did we put those flaying knives? Well, maybe he'll talk without them..."

Aedon looks back down to the bandit and grins madly while pointing at him with one sword, "Here's how this works, we're going tell you what to do, and you're going to obey. Give us any trouble, and I'll torture you to death, then let her have your corpse. Play nice and you'll live. Now, stop blubbering, then tell us your name."

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Yeah, yeah, Aedon was in the front line by himself, not used to being all out in the open like that, totally threw him off his game. ;) Not sure if Bluff or Intimidate is the right choice, so I added both of them.

I'm going to retcon all of Aedon's comments and actions. The description provided in the second post is quite different than the first one. I mean, Aedon wouldn't bother saying anything to a guy who is bawling incoherently and mumbling to himself. That's a bit more than "crying" IMO.

Aedon picks up the sword and crossbow to get them out of the way.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon makes another full attack:

Attack, shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
Attack, shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10

"I'm holding him up, take him down!"

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon takes the 5' step toward the nearest one and attacks with both swords:

Attack, shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Attack, shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2

As Aedon moves forward to press his attack, his opponent remembers the teachings of his old master... he begins flowing like the water, bending like the grass, and swaying like the reed - all at the same time - deftly avoiding the wild swings of the half-elf.

Wow. That may be my worst combination of rolls, in any game, ever. And insult to injury having them in sequence like that...

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Ready an action: if B2 does anything other than lower his weapons, Aedon attacks.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon looks up to see if he can spot the origin of the arrow.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

He then emerges from his hiding spot and moves to the side of B2 while drawing his short swords. He smiles broadly and gives the men a shallow bow, saying "Easy now boys, drop your weapons and keep your voices down."

Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Didn't see that coming, nice DM Fnord!

How far away are they from Aedon, and is he in front of them, beside them, or behind them? I don't need a map, just some general guidance. I'll go ahead an roll initiative.

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon nods, points at his eyes, then points toward the disturbance. He quickly moves into the bushes, attempting to conceal himself while also trying to spot whatever is moving toward them.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon watches Kari yell at Lyster then dismount. He follows her lead, leading his horse over and handing his reins to Salvator. As Rufus reprimands Lyster, Aedon turns away to follow Kari, carefully watching his footing as he attempts to move as quietly as possible.

Once he nears Kari, he whispers:

Sylvan:
"Steady, sister, just me. You ready to do this or do you need a moment?"

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Nothing to add, but paying attention.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Not here

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Not a big deal, I figured it was in character for Rufus to attempt the actions you posted, so I went with that interpretation.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1
Rufus Fitzroi wrote:
Is Aedon's objection to Rufus' handling his gear, or to the gear being re-arranged? If Aedon will do it, Rufus doesn't care as long as it gets done.

Well, yes and yes. Aedon isn't riding around bandit-infested woods with pots and pans hanging off his saddlebags or anything like that, so I think Rufus would be fine with his gear choices and arragement.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon watches as Rufus begins his inspections. Grabbing his reins, he leads his horse past Rufus and toward the trail, "I got my gear, thanks though."

No offense, but Aedon isn't going to allow Rufus, or anyone, near his gear. And he most certainly is not going to submit to some kind of "examination" without prior consent.

Picketing the animals will likely happen once we reach our destination, but we've got half a day of riding before we get there.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon grins, "Come running to save our arses? More like 'come running to clean up after Kari and I take care of the bandits for you'!"

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Stealth; extra 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Stealth; extra 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

"So it seems we all agree that scouting the camp is our priority at the moment."

Nodding at Kari, "Sure, sounds good."

Aedon thinks for a minutes, "Let's say once we locate the camp and begin looking around, we get twenty minutes. If we haven't returned by then, then we've got a problem and everybody else comes in fast and hard. Does that seem like enough time?"

Seems like Kari and Aedon will scout while the rest of the group remains several hundred feet back up the trail.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon looks as if he has something else to say, but he settles on agreement with Gizsmith's comments, "Fair enough. Who knows, they may all be dead when we arrive."

"Kari, I'll head in with you if you want some backup. Your decision."

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

"While I agree with Gizsmith that laying an ambush for the bandits would be a great way to deal with them, I think Rufus is right. We don't know enough about their tendencies to assume they'll take this same trail. At least, I'm not keen on taking a chance that another group of bandits might pass us and visit Oleg while we're out here."

"I can hide fairly well given the right situation, but I cannot turn myself invisible. That's a handy trick to have... I like the idea of scouting the base, but I'm not sure we should wait until nightfall to attack; I think that leaves too many of our group at a disadvantage, and we don't know if they have any who have no problems with darkness."

"My instincts tell me that Salvator has the right of it... we should find out what we can as quickly as possible and get in there without much delay. Depending on the camp layout, Gizsmith might be able to create a diversion allowing us to hit them when they're distracted?"

"Another thought... We have a description of this Kressle person, so she should be a priority target when she shows her face. We all saw how fast the bandits at Oleg's surrendered when Happs went down, maybe these will act just as cowardly?"

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon wanders the camp, looking over the "tricks" played on the group.

Curious that Gizsmith's boots were filled, while nothing happened to Rufus. The story was good, the acting, however...

After everyone has finished their tasks and has prepared to leave, "Once we find the camp, what is our approach? Do we prepare to sneak in and ambush, or walk right in and try to fool them? Also, what's our strategy for dealing with any guards they have in their towers?"

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon quickly and efficiently tends his horse then beds down again for the evening, offering to take third watch again if needed. He otherwise remains quiet for most of the evening.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon gifts Kari with an amused expression.

Sylvan:
"Oh, no dancing tonight, for we have trouble that needs our attention ahead on our journey, and we must conserve our strength. But aye, a song from our gentle Kari would no doubt entertain and delight any and all this eve!"

He looks back toward the rest of the group, "Pardon friends, we are making offers of entertainment in the language of the woods, with which the wee ones are likely familiar."

Oh Gods, no dancing, please, no dancing!

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon shrugs and looks at the rest of the group, "I guess they don't want to talk right now. Unless somebody else has another idea, let's keep going."

Not at all!

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Was in a rush earlier, meant to include this but got tied up and lost the ability to edit the post

With his crossbow raised slightly, Aedon pauses to look around the forest, attempting to find whatever may be watching the group.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Sigh...

I can't see anything through the trees around here, there could be an entire army hidden above us! Well, if I can't see them...

With his vision blocked by the dense foliage, Aedon lowers his crossbow and speaks, "Is somebody out there? We are simply passing through these woods and do not mean to intrude. Would you reveal yourself so we may talk, or at least give us your name so we may greet you in friendship if we pass by here again?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Seeing Salvator pull his sword, Aedon raises his crossbow. "What is it?"

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon nods and responds in a similar manner, "That makes sense, but I would much rather be in our current situation than in one that depends on Rejin to do anything more complex than sitting on a stump and breathing. I'm open to the issue, but Rejin isn't the answer."

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon seems pleased, and a bit surprised, that everyone agrees with his suggestion without discussion.

:)

"I believe we stay with the tracks as far as we can." Aedon offers.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

"We also know the bandit camp is near a ford over the river, so we can also search for a road or trail large enough for a wagon. I think returning back along our trail to look for the bandit's track should be our first option though."

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1

Aedon agrees and volunteers, tapping his temple, "I'll take third. It would be a blessing if the moon's out."

He eats quickly then climbs into his bedroll for the night.

Half-Elf Rogue 1; hp 10/10; AC 17, t13, ff14; Init +3; Perc +7; F+2, R+5, W+1
