I thought I read June 1st. Would love to hear more teases about the product, strethc goals, etc ;p

When in doubt consult the old TSR "Book of Elves" supplement. Those brownish colored ones, it's been years (like, 20 or so hah), but it had some really good background and cultural stuff for elves, I'd just rock that personally.

Dark Archive

I'm more of a PS3 fan, but I do like the xbox controllers...

Not sure how I feel about this news. It's nice that they can compete on price but I can't help but feel sad about the Kinect. I was hoping to see some games that are high quality for it, and that's much more likely with a better install base of it.

I've not jumped on board yet, but I saw it as PS4 being better slightly for me, but xbone being better if the gf or other girls want to play

Agreed on this. Although to be frank I never saw FGG as much wanting to support mythic rules....they do like deadly critters however! ;p

Bump for great justice...er....

Well, PDFs are included now with purchase of books. I know some folks were on the fence on that so, they're in now hooray! =)

Very close to our backer count bonus goal too, c'mon get in ya know you want to.

Just my 2 cp.

I was interested in backing at this level too until I saw that it didn't actually get you physical copies of the books. I'm not paying $50 a piece for PDFs.

The $75 dollar level gets you pdfs of all three books. I agree though the books aren't cheap! I was on the fence a long time but these books get beefier with every stretch goal unlock.

As someone who is on a great team that has done several Kickstarters, and I believe all of them were late...

To be honest though, from what I've seen the one that had some pretty significant delays were from emergencies. And, the author(s) at that time were VERY open with it. More open than anyone expected and the community completely understood and was supportive (I think!).

In any event FGG will have a lot of good feelings coming their way for helping to pull Razor Coast outta Limbo. I think that's going to carry a lot of karma =)

Dark Archive

On the point that DaveMage is making, I would agree in general on the multiple KS at the same time thing. However, I think there can be some exceptions. Primarily this goes back to a rule of backing successful companies.

FGG is in that boat right now, but was very forthright in where they are on the progress of their previous KS for SoA. No problems backing for Barakus in that case, as they've a strong history.

Henry Lopez also wanted to delay his KS for a new Arcanis book until delivery of his latest KS, but so many fans wanted him to get it started so he did. Still, the fact he wanted to hold back I thought was classy by itself.

Agreed also on the newness of KS, and I think some of the best practices and unofficial norms haven't come together in their entirety yet. I'm hoping it does because KS has the potential to be an amazing way for creatives to publish fantastic RPG material. It also has the potential to drive so many away and evolve into an elaborate pre-order system for only proven companies. (My money is on the latter becoming the norm).

Dark Archive

Fair enough, hoping it gets on track honestly. I've heard wonderful things about Way of the Wicked =)

Dark Archive

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on what an estimate is Subby. IF, say for example someone states they will deliver all 6 chapters of an AP in a year, and it turns out manages to get (1) out in that time, that's stretching the whole "estimate" to a whole new level.

I can only imagine if the rest of the world worked like this. Pizza delivered in 30 minutes? It's ok to get it after 3 hours instead. That estimate you were given for $1000? Here's your bill for $6000.

Now, mind you as someone up-thread stated, if they apologized for this and had some reason for it happening many wouldn't mind so much, and I happen to agree.

Also, for what it's worth I didn't happen to KS this, as I've said up-thread I only KS from companies with proven track records. And thankfully so! =)

This. So very much this.

But then, these realizations don't mesh so well with current entitlement and instant gratification culture...

When did expecting people to fulfill their promises become something to be looked down upon?

Yep, wow. I work hard at my job as a teacher, and I have a lot of student loans to pay back. Additionally, I'm paying for some further education.

I don't know anyone's personal situation here, but I'll say that my gaming budget isn't so great that I can just shrug when someone makes off with $100 and "goes dark" on a project. If others can throw money and shrug their shoulders about it God bless them for it. I do fail to see how wanting to get something that was paid for is entitlement. It's not as if people want something for free. They've paid over a year in advance for a product, which takes much of the finance burden off of the shoulders of the creator.

I'd also add that said the subject of this thread is a busy beaver when it comes to funding KS projects, close to 100 at this point so he's not exactly a starving artist...

If the author/artist can't live up to a contract, then it's time they went through a proper and reputable company to manage it for them until such time that they can live up to them. It doesn't mean they're bad, but it does mean they don't have the business chops to pull these things off (at least as of yet).

Dark Archive

From my point of view, ShadowcatX is pretty much on the money. I'm sorry, I know this is a creative field, and I understand it's based on passion for gaming and it's a small community. Nevertheless, if you want to start a KS you should understand that if you're taking in 30 or 40 thousand dollars this isn't something to be done lightly.

This is reminding me a lot of 3.0 OGL avalanche of material. Every person who loves rolling d20s is coming out of the woodwork to make their own games. Truth is, most of the time it isn't necessarily their work that is bad but their project management. I'd go so far as to say that a lot of gamers could put together some great materiel, but few and far between have the business savvy to make it work. Heck someone brought up Paizo, I do believe Lisa has an MBA degree. Coincidence?

Having a couple of ideas and a picture drawn aren't enough. A lot of these projects haven't been done by people with proper experience in the field, by that I mean experience where they've had to work under an editor or whatever that has a real deadline to live up to.

I myself pretty much take the position that I'll only back KS for those companies or individuals that have proven themselves. To me, that's folks like FGG, Monte Cook, Kobold, Henry Lopez (Arcanis fella), Reaper, and I think I'm adding Dreamscarred and Legendary as well as they seem very reputable at this point IMO. Even the Judges Guild KS is a bit questionable to me, as while they as a company may have done some work I haven't heard much from the in years.

Yes, I understand that KS is a way to help creatives fund the projects they want. But without business acumen they have to rely upon trusted partners to make this happen. Part of that acumen is setting realistic project dates, having benchmarks for completion of sections, planning for a few holidays and sickdays, etc. Yes, by all means if an emergency happens that's fair enough, but I also agree with Shadowcat that I doubt MOST of the KS which have vanished or are late are due to that. There's something to be said about paying someone for the job once it's completed and not a minute before, and I think KS only helps to prove that.

Yeah, I almost went in for the KS too, especially since I'm from Portland and it's just a stones throw away. Dude seems passionate enough and heard great things about the previous AP...just think he's not so great at keeping to schedules and then feels a bit ashamed to keep contact.

It's a sandbox game where players are supposed to be a lot of the content. If you want to just sit around building crap all day I suggest Simcity, or if that game having natural disasters is too PvP then perhaps Microsoft Rail Simulator?

Awesome thank you so much. Just ended up cancelling my AP not long ago but you guys got me to make another order with that GM day sale! ;p

I'm not sure what your saying here. Are you saying the forums is a place where people can express their in game issues at other characters? That is, because a bandit is bad in the game people can react to them that way here?

Fallacy or not that seems pretty stupid to me. In fact that brings up a good point. If I decide someone is stupid because of their posts on these forums, can I attack them personally like I would in the game?

Didn't think so.

Your ability to understand has little bearing on my intelligence. You weren't confident of your reading yet based upon that poor understanding you decided to pass judgment and call me stupid, which is pretty damn stupid of you.

You are posting as yourself. When you play a game online you are also playing as yourself. You are not magically something else when playing the game, you are just as real and the behavior you exhibit is real as well. There is no dichotomy between what is in the game and reality. The consequences of what you do in the game are different from what they would be if you did those things in 'real' life, but your behavior as a player making your character do things in-game is every bit as real behavior as what you do in meatspace. If you do an evil thing you have still done an evil thing.

Is that clear enough for you or do I also need to teach you to read?

Let's just put this out there then. Are you suggesting that playing an evil character in a video game is somehow indicative of a person in real life? How about the GM playing the evil characters in the table top game?

Please never join a game I'm in.

Dark Archive

Yep just tried to add, some items don't come up with discount.

Midgard bestiary print/pdf combo for example :/
Tales of the Old Margareve print/pdf combo comes up oddly priced too

Dark Archive

Not going to be long winded about this, just going to say that these boards are very gay/queer/whatever-other-term-is-used. I really doubt the moderators are letting it stand because they're not sensitive. Quite the contrary I find sometimes they can be too sensitive in that way. Nevertheless, honestly to accuse them of insensitivity on that particular point to me is just laughable.

Dark Archive

Now I wanna play PFS just to own some slaves. Heck a player in our Legends of Arcanis game used to have one I was green with envy!

Dark Archive

Everquest on Vallon Zek.

We had community rules (well, I joined about a year in I hear it was pretty bad at first). Community decided on rules such as loot n scoot (if you die you leave the area for an hour), not fighting when others were on mobs, and larger rules for guild vs guild (controlled corpse runs, fighting over static spawns).

It worked pretty well for a few years I'd say, sure it had some problems but by and large if you were known as a trashy player the bigger guilds wouldn't let you in and generally you wouldn't get the benefit of those rules.

I'd say it worked pretty well through the first six expansions at least...not a bad run. Also, as the game relied a lot upon grouping the community was rather strong, and with a nice variety of characters.

Please cancel my PF AP sub, simply too much stuff to use at the moment (backlog of dozens ><)

The way to view it is the other way around. The River Kingdoms area is already somewhat styled to the nature of the game that they wished to build.

Hmm, that's a bit concerning then. It's not a Pathfinder game, but it's a game that they built and decided to skin somewhat in Pathfinder flavor.

Meh, I'll see what it's like. Honestly so far the game doesn't sound much like what I'd expect from Pathfinder. Then again I was in that crowd that wanted something in the vein of NWN set in Golarion, which isn't necessarily allowable from my understanding.

Dark Archive

Honestly I'm a bit curious here myself. The game so far looks interesting but not necessarily PF in flavor. I suppose one part of this is that it's focused on the River Kingdoms area, which isn't necessarily the first that comes to my mind. Just my interpretation though, we'll see how it turns out! =)

So maybe I don't keep up on the material enough, but I'm honestly confused.

This is a sandbox that previously trumpeted itself as all player driven content, right? And we're also saying that Chaotic Evil will be a funnel of suck. Does this partially apply to Lawful Evil? I'm very worried that IF all content is player driven and we make people not want to be the bad guys what does this leave us with? Craft Simulator 2000?

What happens when the game is run by a few small LG settlements? Sit around the campfire making S'mores, singing Kumbaya, and having the inevitable circle?

Dark Archive

Hi Justin, just wanted to touch base that I sent that package back to y'all on Thursday, I'll update this post with the tracking number and the amount then as well. They didn't let me return to sender or reject the shipment as the fella said it had already been opened.

Thank you so much!

Aaron

Dark Archive

Ah ok I'll run down there Wednesday and send it back (doing teaching license stuff tomorrow :/)

Shipping all the stuff with my next sub is fine, though I wonder what will happen with shipping rates in that case! I generally add a lot of items to my monthly shipment to get the first $10 off shipping for the order (always made it free ;p) Will I still have that option in February? In light of there being two months worth of materials I wonder if it'll push the shipping cost very high for me. Or, will shipping be calculated only on the new stuff and not the existing side cart?

Thank you so much in any case, I'll get to the post office Wednesday straight away ~

Hiya guys,

I think there's been a very big mistake mine. Yesterday morning I opened a box which was my name and shipping information, but when I opened it the packing slip was for order a Mr.Bush, order #2754657.

What should we do in this case? I'm assuming that this other guy got his name on a box filled with my order (Order 2970559). I'm only in town for one more week so I hope we can get this figured out rather quickly, as I'll be back in Thailand until July at that point :/

Eh I've had my blow up in the past regarding some of the moderation that was happening. I feel that some mods have a very specific agenda, and by and large I think the company and community are ok with that. I just tend to avoid those topics if possible.

Dark Archive

SKR's always giving cool stuff away to fans, show the man some love fella does a lot for the industry

Dark Archive

Ah gotcha, no worries Justin was just curious if it was something that could be done. Thank you for the explanation =)

Aaron

Dark Archive

Just a quick question regarding suspension or how long items are held in side carts. At some point very soon I will be slowing my purchases and keeping it primarily to AP volumes. Living overseas, I tend to just use the pdf and have the packages sent to my mom's house, where I pick them up during a visit home.

I'd be interested in possibly getting the AP charged monthly, but all held in side-cart or something until all six volumes release. With that, I can just have them all shipped together and save on the shipping costs. Is that something that is able to be done? If so once I return from America in February I would be interested in setting that up and can start a new thread for that.

I guess the other option is for me to suspend and renew my subs every six months, but I reckon that $16 for AP volume monthly is better for cash flow for Paizo =)

At this point just asking the question and not asking for action to be taken. Thank you so much!

Aaron

Dark Archive

Well it did feel a bit like the license was there to draw in fans of Pathfinder. I think even the authors of the KS said as much, that it wasn't in keeping with the flavor of Pathfinder.

Bottom line, the more I looked into it the more I thought I only was backing it because of the Pathfinder license. Not saying it's not anyone else's cup of tea, but I suspect a significant number of backers felt the same way. I guess the mechanics just didn't grab me, maybe I'm not one for dice games such as that ~

I would love to see it come back, as the project was fully funded. Just not something I see as being PF much (having said that, really doesn't matter to me truth be told!)

Dark Archive

Eh to be honest I was one of the people who backed out. At first I figured hey it's got PF license can't be bad. Then, I started to think about how much it has to do with Pathfinder...outside of some re-used art not a whole lot.

It doesn't work on downloads, but does that mean it doesn't work on print/pdf combos? When I try to do it with some FGG stuff it doesn't seem to want to work :/

Tried to place an order with it, came up as code not recognized. I see from the news discussion others are having the same problem.

Good afternoon (well here it is!)

I just wanted to see if someone could peek in on Order 2928584. I saw that in my email it said there would be a shipping charge. Between my side-cart items and my AP sub I'm just over $100 in items before shipping. In the email it says there will be a shipping charge of $9.71. I just wanted to bring it up, I'm assuming that once it ships I'll end up getting the save $10 off of shipping discount for over $100 worth of items being shipped.

Thank you so much! =)

We've done sales before, but this one just plain caught us out. The number of orders we anticipated for the month-long sale was exceeded on the first weekend, and the size of the individual orders was also unanticipated—we had some single orders containing nearly a thousand individual items.

I hear after clearing all that from the warehouse there was an entire culture of people found, natives who have had little interaction with the outside world..
