It's a Fight to the Finish!

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Bestiary 5 is creeping, crawling, slithering, and sneaking its way to you soon—it's time for some previews! But we're gonna shake things up a bit, and give you the opportunity to choose what you want to see, not to mention a chance to win a signed copy of Bestiary 5 when it releases!

If any of you have been to PaizoCon and had a chance to play "Green Blood on a Black Rock", you'll have a great idea of what to expect in this elimination-style event. All of these creatures are brand new, unseen in any of our other books—but this time, we're leaving the choice of which ones you'll get the details on to you! As each round progresses, we'll reveal more information, starting with their name and a full picture.

With that out of the way, let's get ready to rumble, and meet our contestants!

Aberration vs. Monstrous Humanoid, Animal vs. Plant

Our Aberration would love to sit down and think about deep, meaningful topics with you, and our Monstrous Humanoid would love to have a long shuffle on the ocean beach, and it's flora and fauna puttin' up their dukes, and who's gonna win this one: small and fierce, or cute and cuddly?

Construct vs. Outsider A, Dragon vs. Outsider B

Will this crafted being be able to conquer a creature formed from the very fabric of existence, and this is no ordinary Dragon that the Outsider will be facing—but this Outsider has powers at its command that even dragons should fear!

Fey vs. Undead, Humanoid vs. Outsider C

Clearly our Fey might just like to have a good time—will they set the glass down long enough to face against this ferocious four-legged Undead? Mortal pit against immortal: who will win? The candle that burns twice as bright, but half as long, or the embodiment of endless and immutable forces?

Magical Beast A vs. Magical Beast B, Ooze vs. Vermin

We're pitting these two Magical Beasts against each other—time to see who really can conquer mind over matter! I'm pretty sure if you dipped our Vermin in the Ooze, it might make a tasty tempura treat...but I don't think they'd like that much!

What are you waiting for? Place your bets in the voting booth and give yourself a chance to win a signed copy of Bestiary 5—as well as a chance to receive one of four Bestiary 5 PDFs! The first round of voting closes at 12:00 PM Pacific time on October 28, 2015, and remember, each round will give you more chances to win!

Vote Now!

And because I know you've all been super-patient for some art, I'm gonna whet your appetites with a trio of goodies that caught my attention (I blame Diablo III).

Oops!

Pictures still in development...

Edit: never mind, my bad :-)

I definitely want to know what's up with that snakey-looking humanoid. Almost looks like a Lamia.

Cool.

Fun! I can't wait to learn more.

I noticed a humanoid shape plant and a lamia like humanoid. I hope they are both playable though the plant might be the lotus leshy.

Ha, there's a thought eater.

So new to Pathfinder, but not necessarily new to D&D...

huh. And I bet that last animal is some sort of dire mantis shrimp.

Unfortunately, in the 'select a survey' box selecting the competition on a tablet (windows 10, Edge browser, multiple different brands of touch enabled pcs) just refreshes the screen so it is not possible to access the competition.

Note, this also occurs on other areas of the site, such as attempting to view Pre-order player Companions here: http://paizo.com/pathfinder/companion/pathfinderRPG.

I suspect that the background code is responding to click events, but ignoring touch events.

Antony

New art for the Balisse angel is quite wonderful.

That aberration looks like a ancestor of whales. Sort of. I'm guessing outsider B will be one of the new sahkil fiends.

Fairly sure I know what the bottom vermin is x3

So, are we supposed to vote right now? If so, here's my choices:

1st Category: Aberration and Plant

2nd Category: Outsider (A) and Dragon

3rd Category: Fey and Outsider (C)

4th Category: Magical Beast (B) and Ooze

Just can't get past the idea that top-left could be Undead Big Bird.

Go to this link and click on the survey to go vote. The link's in the blog but I'm reposting it here to make it more conspicuous.

Also, mantis shrimps!

This makes me so excited! But at the same time, I realize I still have to wait 6 days to get actual info, which makes me sad...ah well! I'm still grateful there's a preview. :)
I picked
Monstrous Humanoid (even though I know it's a deep one) and Plant
Construct and Dragon
Undead and Humanoid
Magical Beast (B) and Vermin (even though I could probably guess what it is.

This is a cool preview idea, Lilz!

Also... I see some of my creations in those line ups!

Category one- Thought Eater, Deep One, ???, Lotus leshy?

Category Two- Robot, ???, ???, ???

Category Three- ???, ???, ???, ???

Category Four- Brain Mole?, ???, ???, Giant Mantis or Hammer Shrimp

In category four it says two magical beast for the first two but when you place the mouse's arrow on the second one it says outsider.

The animal is a red panda, which we've seen an image of for.

And the undead kinda reminds me of a dracolich. Some undead dragon anyway.

My original notes were for outsider, but the creature was too cool not to include...but they are *both* magical beasts in that match.

Oh no! Not Magical Beast B!

*Hides after nearly being killed by that creature in a recent office game*

Take'im down, Magical Beast A! Surely you'll be more merciful than your opening opponent!

The issue still occurs, it does not appear to be possible to access the survey/competition from a windows 10 tablet.

Steps:

On this page http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/bestiary5

Tap on the link for 'Round 1: Top 16 Monsters'

The whole pages refreshes back to the same page.

Well , i just like plants and outsiders :P.

Outsider A looks like the sahkil (no idea how to spell that) version of a Morrigna.

Magical beast b looks like it has peacock feathers for a tail.

I wonder if the dragon is one of the esoteric dragons.

That ooze could be anything really.

I'm a fan of Outsider A, but I have a feeling our laser scorpion construct is going to make them rest in peace.

Unfortunately, it sounds like your tablet simply doesn't like some of our dynamic components. You might want to leave the details in our Website Feedback forum.

This is actually just a Rorschach test. If you see monsters in all of them there is something seriously wrong with you! ;-)

If I recognize all the monsters from my own imagination and memory, does that mean I'm past the point of no return?

I will have you know that I am the voice of reason between us. Yoon can get herself into misadventures just fine on her own!

I am really curious what the humanoid snake woman thing is.

Any chance that any of these creatures are 0HD races?

Answer hazy. Check back next week. :D

Are you sure that the snake thing is a humanoid and not monstrous humanoid?

Yes. :)

I'm now wondering if it's a snake-humanoid Lamia-like thing or an eel-humanoid mermaid-like thing.

Yeah, I couldn't vote for the 'humanoid' because lack of humanoidyness...

That Undead though - might I actually have a chance to bring my Kaladrax to the table....

You have no idea how tempting it was to put a starburst behind each of these silhouettes.

How are winners (For the signed books) determined? I assume the winners of the vote between each pair will either be revealed early or be in the running to be revealed early after another round or two.

I do like how there's an unfettered phantom to match the unfettered eidolon.

Well maybe snake women thing is an eel's tail or maybe even a dragon's tail.

I also like the unfettered phantom as well.

Is each monster group a separate round or is this entire thing the 1st round?
