Starfinder Society: Year 5 Announcement

Friday, February 25, 2022

A quartet of Starfinders travel to the distant horizon on an unknown planet. Starships streak across the sky.

In the aftermath of the Data Scourge, the Starfinder Society fractures along faction lines! Infighting, power grabs, and suspicion run rampant, all threatening to tear the Society apart. Faced with the past mistakes of the Society, the betrayal and heinous crimes of former Starfinders, the grievances of active agents, and the weakening of external alliances, First Seeker Ehu Hadif embarks on a year of change. He opens the floor to all agents, giving them a platform to voice concerns, plans, and ambitions, and lobby for change. New factions are founded, reforms are enacted, relationships are mended, and trust is tentatively reforged.

But the Society's plans for a brighter tomorrow won't come without opposition. The Starfinders face off against opportunistic criminals and internal corruption, and they uncover clues involving a secretive criminal organization with a centuries-old connection to the Starfinder Society.

Welcome to the Year of Redemption's Rise!

There are six Starfinder Society Scenarios that directly influence the Year of Redemption's Rise metaplot. Like last year, each will be marked with a special metaplot icon on the cover. Scenarios without this icon are adventures that don't directly tie into the events of Year of Redemption's Rise. However, these adventures still touch on this year's themes: reconciliation, redemption, heroism, and doing good in a galaxy that's got some tough times on the horizon.

The Year of Redemption's Rise metaplot kicks off with Starfinder Society Intro: Year of Redemption's Rise, an adventure for levels 1–4 written by our very own Alex Speidel! This scenario marks Alex's first foray into writing Starfinder Society scenarios, and I promise he did not disappoint! This scenario debuts at PaizoCon 2022, alongside two other Starfinder Society Scenarios. While I recommend you begin your journey into this Year's metaplot with the Year of Redemption's Rise, the remaining scenarios in this year's metaplot can be played in any order.

A new Year isn't the only exciting news I've got up my sleeve! I'm pleased to announce that the following five races are being moved to always available as of the beginning of Year 5: dragonkin, pahtra, sarcesian, shobhad, and vlaka. Additionally, the Year of Redemption's Rise shines a spotlight on some of the Starfinder Society's minor factions: the already established Manifold Host, and the brand-new Advocates and Cognates factions! More information on these three factions will be released right here, on the Paizo blog, in a few weeks.

Want to learn more about the Year of Redemption's Rise or the Advocates? Check out the following interviews!

Further interviews discussing the Cognates and Manifold Host factions are in the works and will be released in the near future.

Take care, Starfinders!

Maybe this year is the year for me to learn to play Starfinder! Sounds great!

Are any races planned on being moved out of "always" available at this time?
(Asking as someone who started PFS right when Tieflings/Aasimar were rotated out...)

More pahtras, more factions, and more Alex Speidels? Season 5 hypppppeeee!

P.S. How you gonna play the Gorgon dirty like this? This logo is Exo-Guardians erasure, and I won't stand for it :D

Hm. So, the Aspis Consortium is making a comeback, are they? :)

YES!!! Some Manifold Host love! Not that it would be an issue if there is nothing, but will there be anything for characters that had done MH before? Especially since I used it on my Vlaka.

Right now I believe the main benefit is early access to the boons that all Manifold Host members will have (because your characters will already have the requisite Reputation), but stay tuned for more information!

I can't begin to express how up for this I am!

Once this change take effect, will existing characters of these races need to continue slotting boons? (Ex: I have an existing dragonkin using a boon. Will he need to continue slotting it each scenario after the changes, or will that no longer be needed?)

Finally, I get to find out what Manifold Host is....

Also, yesssss, Vlaka, Pahtra and Sarcesian always available.

Vlaka yay!

Ooh, free access to three big boys as well as puppies and kitties. Already had a Sarcesian character I don't play much, so I presume that will be a retroactive ability boost. Also had a pahtra character I've not yet played and had plans for a Shobhad, so plenty of new things to try out.

Unless they make some specific exceptions

If your character is a convention boon, you get for free to add +2 to any stat 14 or lower. as a consolation prize, and your racial slot is now free.

If your character is a scenario or similar boon, you can add +2 to any stat 14 or lower but it till occupy your species slot.

I am super happy to see Vlakas (and these other races too) in circulation for Season 5! I too have been thinking of making a vlaka!

Will the pace of scenario releases pick back up or will it stay at 1 per month?

Our release schedule is currently planned to be the same as this year: 16 scenarios, one new interactive special, and a handful of Bounties (6, I think, but don't quote me on it).

What if we bought one of these races already using achievement points?

I believe that comes under scenario or similar.

There's very little else to do with your racial boon slot however

Huh, yeah, the relevant FAQ section doesn't cover this case. May need to be updated? Like the friendly Wolf says, though, Personal slot boons are few and far between, outside of playable species, so this is mostly academic.

I would be happy knowing that the character would get the stat boost. I have no issue at all with it taking up the personal boon. I was just hoping that those spent achievement points wouldn't be completely wasted when the race is accessible at no cost.

I just came to check that out. Looks like the FAQ has been updated. Also, it clarified something I had been wondering about trying to stack other boons, so thanks!
