Bounties in 2022 and Beyond

Monday, December 20, 2021

Hello, everyone!

As 2021 draws to a close and we prepare to launch our 2022 programs, we're shaking up our popular Bounties line!

Pathfinder Bounties are PDF adventure products that launched in 2020. They're designed to fill about an hour of play and act as an easy introduction to Pathfinder Second Edition. They can be used as standalone adventures, strung together in any order as a series, or used as transitions and side quests in between longer adventures and campaigns. While Bounties take place in specific areas, they can be used in any campaign setting. Each bounty is also sanctioned for play in our Pathfinder Society Organized Play program and is repeatable.

So, what's changing? I'm so glad you asked!

Up until now, all of our Bounties have been level 1 Pathfinder adventures. Beginning in 2022, our Pathfinder Bounties are leveling up! You can expect four Pathfinder Bounties in 2022, all for Level 3! The first of these level 3 bounties is scheduled to release in February. Our final level 1 bounty, Pathfinder Bounty #17: Sodden Stories, by Michael Bramnik, is scheduled to release this month.

Additionally, in January of 2022, we're launching Starfinder Bounties! You can expect six Starfinder Bounties in 2022, all for level 1. Our Starfinder Bounties are sanctioned for play in the Starfinder Society Organized Play program and are repeatable. Starfinder Bounties grant 1/4 of an XP and 200 credits. While they don't grant Downtime rewards or Reputation, they do offer generous credits for their length. The first of these Starfinder Bounties is already announced: Starfinder Bounty #1: The Cantina Job by John Godek III.

I hope you're as excited for the future of Pathfinder and Starfinder Bounties as I am!

Take care, and happy gaming!

I am curious about the large reduction in PF bounties. While I am excited there are going to be level 3s (and 4 of them thankfully), it seems strange something so popular gets a reduction in volume.

Do you know how much it bothers me that we have 17 Pathfinder bounties at level 1

I pushed so hard for 17 to be the first level 3 but nooooooo the devs love to torture me!

I love bounties for introducing new folks to the game. So glad we have them for Starfinder now too!

Will Starfinder Bounties have the same 'campaign mode' effect as PF2 Bounties?

Also, is the site ready for .25 credits for SFS?

You can only play 12 of them on any one character anyway, right? Why would 16 be better than 17?

Great news! I look forward to the Starfinder bounties!

You all know what to do!

Buy so many of these, so fast, that Paizo has to hire more developers and editors to keep up. :)

I am beyond excited for Starfinder Bounties! As a person who GMs in a 3.5 hour slot because of her venue, short adventures are so very welcome!

Ditto - I love shorter time slot content, sometimes by necessity but also because introducing the game to new folks seems to me to work better in smaller chunks. Very excited!

I'm glad for this. My level 2 monk is literally 1 XP away from leveling up

Seems like a promising setup for the next year.

The question is not so much am I ready as a GM for SF Bounties (woohoo!), but is the band warmed up sufficiently for The Cantina Job?

Well, you can play up to 24 lvl 1 bounties (if that many existed) on a single player due to slow progression.

That said, I believe the reasoning is the quite common preference for even numbers rather than odd numbers. A subconscious desire for symmetry, even in the abstract.

It's not just any odd number. It's a prime number. So... that means... I don't know. Happy adventuring!

If you play the first 10 bounties slow advancement and the next 7 normal, you end up at 12XP. See, there is an arcane plan behind it all.

I'm doing this exact thing with my Bounty Hunter.

It has the unfortunate side effect of annoying the crap out of my GMs...

And to keep my Chronicles in sequence with the Bounty numbers as they're released, I'll probably play the new Bounties with a Level 3 Pregen, but apply the credit to my Level 1 PC.

Then I'll have 17 Level 1 Bounties at half XP, 1 Level 3 Bounty at half XP, and 3 Level 3 Bounties at full XP for a total of 21 Bounties, 12xp.

Wait did I read that right and there is only going to be 4 PF2 bounties coming out in 2022? Can someone confirm this? I thought it must have been a typo but it sounds like maybe not…
Did Starfinder getting 6 bounties take away from the Pathfinder bounties? I guess you can only publish so much and I suppose we have to share.

It was announced a while back, as part of the effort to create a better work/life balance for the organized play team. A couple of scenarios were removed across both PFS2/SFS lines; some bounties moved to SFS, etc. All efforts to keep both programs healthy while also ensuring it wasn't always crunch time for the devs.

Definitely looking forward to more bounties!
