Dark Archive Playtest Ending Soon

Monday, October 18, 2021

The Pathfinder Dark Archive playtest ends on October 29th, which means there's just over one more week to test out the psychic and the thaumaturge at your tables and let us know what you think! Not sure where to go to participate in the playtest? Check the links below:

  • Dark Archive Class Playtest: Here's where you can read up on the playtest versions of the two new classes.
  • Class Survey: Use this survey to tell us what you think of the classes.
  • Open Response Survey: If there's anything you want to say that doesn't come up in the class survey, you can give longer-form feedback here.
  • Thaleon, the iconic psychic Mios, the iconic thaumaturge

While the surveys are the main way we collect feedback, you can also talk about your playtest experiences with other members of the community on the Dark Archive Playtest forum, which we're taking a close look through as the playtest continues.

If you’ve already built characters, sent in your surveys, made videos or posts going over the playtest, or contributed to the discussion wherever you like to talk about tabletops: thank you! We're committed to taking everyone's feedback in mind to make the final version of the psychic and the thaumaturge the best they can be, so let us know what you think—there's just a few more weeks!

Ouch. I forgot that once I clicked done I could not go back and change my answers.

So, to those it may concern, in the open survey about the Thaumaturge, I wanted to add that the class is very MAD which is why I felt starved on skills AND why it seemed very squishy (though I did not experience it while playtesting thanks to low level short fights and Reach weapon + AoO).

The squishy part feels limiting in an odd way : to avoid quickly going down in melee, the Thaumaturge needs to choose a way to mitigate their low HPs and not so good AC and saves (most due to MAD). And this way will become character defining, whereas I would prefer the character to be defined by abilities such as the Implements and feats you choose.

Alas, survival as a frontliner comes first and very foremost.

Finally Recall Knowledge is a mess. Basing Find Flaws, which is THE key ability of the playtest version, on a unusual version of it makes it even worse (for example sparking rather hostile debates between those who enjoy CHA for the class and those for whom it makes no sense in the Find Flaws context). And it contributes HEAVILY to the skill starved feeling. Please do not base the class on the RK system.

Good point: I too forgot to mention that too.

I just hope Psychic gets a shot in the arm. They feel both pretty anemic and pretty set into what their core loop is, and that’s a bummer.
