Question for the SoM team! Can we expect new content related to familiars? Or even More familiars abilities and specific familiars?

I love these livestreams. Here are a few questions of mine to pick from hopefully (mostly geared towards the SoM team):

1. We just heard the Eidolons will each have two stat-blocks. What do these look like and what drove the decision this way vs. having a variable stat-block for people to use?

2.The live-play happening on Thursdays is really showing off the magus as a pull away damage dealer. He's been dishing out tons more than any other character in that group. Is this representative of the design in general and is this what the class is expected to do at most tables?

3. Can we expect more Eidolon choices in the future (Elemental, Aberration, and Devil are most prominently missing)?

4. Do you have to take specific archetypes to use things like Shadow Magic, or are they just spells added to the spell-list with a new Shadow Magic trait? How do these new magic styles work?

5. Will Eidolons be able to take advantage of Summoner feats? Specifically, if I take the Fighter dedication, will the Eidolon get to take advantage of the feats I choose from that line?

6. What is your favorite single thing in SoM?

7. Prepared casters are getting cool Grimoires to use, are spontaneous casters getting any such item love?

8. Who is your favorite NPC from Strength of Thousands so far?

9. Aside from Blood Magic, what didn't make it to SoM that you hope to fit elsewhere?

10. What was one thing that you learned from the SoM playtest that really stuck with you?

1. Any thought to have one of the Starfinder teams GM/run a weekly live play stream like Bullman's Secrets of Magic is doing at some point?

2. Starfinder's Planetfall Hexploration, How many of the empty hexes should have something in them, be it a specific encounter or some kind of situation such as weather and such?

3. If one wanted to get a Divine Magic free archtype for Kindled Magic Module 1 how might one go about it? IE A marshal class wants to grab a Cleric instead of a Druid or a Wizard archtype.

Thanks

Tom

I've tried to write and re-write this a thousand ways to not sound so argumentative. At this point, I'm just going for it.

So far, for Secrets of Magic, we've heard A LOT about Arcane, Divine, and Primal casters. Is this book going to be like Gods & Magic and not really have much for the game's sole Occult caster? Put another way, WHAT ABOUT BARDS?!?!?!?! lol.

Like, I assume Bards are going to get updates that are more general, such as new spells, new rules regarding making custom staves, etc. It just feels like everything is being talked about through the lens of Arcane, Primal, and Divine casters but not Bards. Even Haunting Hymn was introduced as a Divine spell and we didn't really get clarity if that spell is also going to be Occult. It sounded like yes, but nothing was confirmed.

I'm really excited about this book either way, I'm just trying to prepare myself for what to expect because I was crushed by the dearth of Bard content in Gods & Magic.

I'm sure we can discuss this in the show, but I do want to point out that Gods & Magic is part of the Lost Omens setting line and more about lore than rules. Secrets of Magic is in the rulebook line so is is mostly "crunch" with many new occult spells and alternate rules that can apply to bards and occult casters. While not a bard, the Summoner can use occult magic. Let's see what else Logan has to say. :)

Thanks so much for the reply! Good to know! :D

Question to Logan Bonner:

What is the official ruling on being able to cast cantrips & focus spells on lower levels / forced heightening?

Use cases:
Cantrip - Light
Voluntarily using a smaller light radius to enable a scout that is sneaking ahead to stay a little bit closer to the party.

Focus spells - Wild Shape
Druids keeping access to smaller sized animal forms in cases where the larger ones just wont fit due to space constraints instead of them being unable to shift at all.

Edit: If it is not allowed, why was that decision made?

Can we expect anything like the 1e Gloomblade in SoM? It feels like an obvious Archetype, and has such a simple power fantasy: "person with a cool summoned weapon."

^How did I miss that archetype? That's pretty cool -- you get to be a Phantom Blade Spiritualist without the spirituality, but with full BAB and Weapon Training that still works.

Will there be any news on the Evolutionist playtest; any major changes to the class from it's original design, any major deviations?

That playtest is still happening. It won't be until well after September 24th before they'll have the survey data needed to make any changes at all, let alone major changes.

Correct, we have nothing to report at this time. The Star Chamber does have a "this is what we have learn so far" blog planned, at some point. We need as much participation as possible, as always.

I'm excited to see what Logan is going to be able to share with us for this stream. I do hope the majority of the 20 minutes he has doesn't get relegated to just basic summaries and recaps of Secrets of Magic. This stream is probably going to be the last stream we're going to have with a member of the design team to directly talk about or spoil things in this book before its street date on the 25th. It'd just be a shame if he's just talking about the same details we've known for months.

As for specific questions:

1. We've heard next-to-nothing about the magic item section, aside from the new categories of items. What about the current categories? What new runes, magic weapons or armor, or anything else is in this book?

2. What benefits to Arcane Cascade does the Sword & Shield Magus, or the Staff-wielding Magus get?

3. Are there class features that upgrade the Magus' subclasses even more, like a Ranger's Edges, or do they largely stay the same, like a Rogue's Rackets?

4. What does the Elementalism class archetype actually do? What are the requirements for the archetype? And how does a class archetype that changes your spell list affect how you cast from wands, staves and scrolls?
