Starfinder Species Survey

A view of a lush jungle world full of diverse alien wildlife

One of the best things about Starfinder is being able to play as one of an ever-growing number of alien species—more than 100 at last count! While we have our favorites, we’d love to know about yours, so from now until March 21st, we’re running a brief survey to find out which of Starfinder’s species you’re interested in learning more about. Please participate today, and help influence upcoming Starfinder products!

As thanks for answering the survey’s two questions, we’ll provide you a link to an exclusive desktop wallpaper (at multiple resolutions) of Starfinder’s first 10 iconic characters.

Click here to take the survey and get your wallpaper.

Thank you for your participation and your continued support of the Starfinder Roleplaying Game!

The Star Chamber will be able to spot my survey specifically because of that box. >_>

On sidenote, from the Pact worlds/core/alien archive1/2/3/4 books, I tried to pick something from everything, ranging from aliens I just love and want to hear more about and to species I really are necessary to get expansion upon or would be good to get expansion upon because they have been underrepresented.

Like did you remember that Urogs are actually a pact world species? Yeah its easy to forget that when you don't see them in any art or adventure material :D And what about Kasatha, for core race we don't actually know lot about them besides the stereotypes, we could visit their homeworld with drift travel presumably, but I don't think we have even confirmed whether pact worlds has any contacts with Kasath. Do Kasatha have other popular gods than Talavet? Will we see starfinder versions of Kasath animals from Pathfinder or have they gone extinct by starfinder? That sort of stuff. (in general lot of pact worlds non core book species really need expansion on them)

(on list of races I just wanted to have expansion on that included astrazoans and trox ;D It was really hard picking ten species but I managed somehow)

You should be able to edit your response by returning to the survey link!

Can we get a similar survey about deities/philosophies we want expanded material on? Attack of the Swarm was awesome for expansion on Hylax, but I want ALL the Weydan material!

Also Triune.

Oh, and Eloritu and Ibra!

You know what, I'll just wait until the PROM (Philosophies and Religions Operations Manual) comes out!

If you consider different Ability Modifiers as its own race, I have 169.

174 with the five legacy races from the new alien deck.

Me: "Ooh, they have gnomes on this survey!"

Bret: "You already know everything there is to know about gnomes."

Me: "Do I?"

Bret: [Sighs] "I guess you're going to click the button, then."

There are lots of races that I want more lore for, of course. But I just had to click the gnome button!

If I could pick all of them, I'd pick all of them. Actually cheated a little bit in that my fill in the box answer included, among others, "All Planar Scions" and I listed aasimars & tieflings along with them so I could not select them on the main list.

While I've responded already, I also will add that I really, REALLY would like to see going forward is naming conventions for non-Core species. For most of them, all we have to go on when coming up with names during character creation is extrapolating from the names of the occasional NPCs of those species that turn up in Adventure Paths, or in the case of species who previously appeared on Golarion, just cribbing from Pathfinder.

Somebody give me NAMES!

Oh, and Eloritu and Ibra!

You know what, I'll just wait until the PROM (Philosophies and Religions Operations Manual) comes out!

Pretty sure Eloritu got an article in Devastation Ark.

Anyway, I'm dead curious what the end result of this survey will look like, and what sorts of products it'll lead to (though I guess we're not gonna see the fruits of it until like a year from now at least).

This. Since all of the races in the universe basically punch through the planes to get around, the Planar Scions sound very interesting to me. Like is there a planet full of them? How do they fit in with the larger galactic community?

My guess is that this is for an advanced race guide, so I specifically chose races that didn't have any advanced options in COM or Near Space yet.

I really want some detail on Nuar. Like, are all their space stations labyrinths?

I for one would love to see more of the Ramiyel. Their origins fascinate me.

I don't think there was Eloritu article in Devastation Ark unless I somehow missed it completely?

From what they already let us read, their "labyrinth" is Absalom Station and that's probably the biggest maze in the Pact Worlds.

Dirindi, sazarons, spathinae, & urogs all made my list. Dirindi, sazarons, & urogs being some of the odder races of the pact worlds that would never the less be fairly common in setting & are definitely worth exploring, and spathinae just being one of the cooler races they've come out with.

Ye missed Hmm mentioning gnomes then ;D

Anyway, legacy races are valid for expansion as well, though I'd rather have kasatha expansion as mentioned than any of them since they have plenty of expansion in pathfinder side and they still make lot of appearances as npcs in different adventures more than Urogs and Nuars.

Though I do think having more expansion on starfinder dwarves, elves and halflings would be interesting. Dwarves apparently have star citdaels and huge bases and such but they don't get lot of focus as culture, its interesting to hear if elves ever got to other planets than golarion with gates in the distant past(and more elves that aren't just xenophobic) and halflings have bit of "there is no unique starfinder flavor for them" problemo that would be nice to see solved

I'mma trying to remember all ap bestiary entries I put in.. (hope paizo doesn't mind us discussing stuff we answered in survey)

Amrantah, Anassanoi, Endiffian, Ilthisarian, Kish, Ramiyel, Selamid, Stellifera and Trinir at least were there xD

To be honest this turned more into a "In what region are you interested in".

I know next to nothing about the dwarven star citadels, so I selected dwarves. Dragonkin and Ryphorians for more stuff about Triaxus, Formians for more information about Castrovel and so on.

And the planetouched (Asimar/Tiefling).

I don't think the survey was working correctly. It didn't let me check Embri more than once, which is clearly not intended.

I'll double this. Inner Sea Gods was my favorite sourcebook for Pathfinder 1e, and I would love to see the equivalent for Starfinder.

Anyway, my own answers to the survey were pretty boring. I mostly want more information on the major species of the Pact Worlds, especially the ones that haven't gotten quite as much love so far, like the Barathu and Verthani.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I did select orcs & half-orcs because they are to me as gnomes are to Ms. Moon Murphey. I know half-orcs got a little touching up in the COM but still. Full orcs, I think, definitely need a dedicated look as they're a very major departure from what they were in PF1E so I wanna see more on that. Attack of the Swarm, I believe it was, also established that there are orc planets outside of the pact worlds where they presumably haven't been reduced to the whole, servitor race, thing.

I just realized that I forgot to put Kitsune and Grippli in the comments section of the survey!

I blame HMM distracting me with her talk of gnomes. :)

One thing I'd like to see with the planetouched is the alternate bloodlines/heritages we had in PF1e. I know they're getting some love in 2e right now so it would be nice if they can get some shine in Starfinder.

Like, sunsoul ifrits are arguably more setting appropriate for Starfinder than baseline ifrits are.

Btw this, Sarenrae and Hylax article made me realize that starfinder deity articles are overall more focused on the religion and church of them. Like no pictures of deities in these ones :'D

Ooh, something else I forgot to mention in the written portion is it'd be super helpful for some roleplaying tips on how to play "Unseen" species like the grays and reptoids without requiring a large buy-in from your GM and fellow players to be in on "the conspiracy" or requiring you to actively decieve your party and every NPC you meet, which I imagine would cramp the flow of the game.

Reptoids admittedly have an advantage in that they can disguise themselves as other species (and there's an NPC in Asanatown in the Burning Archipelago who is explicitly described as a reptoid who defected to pursue a career in stand-up comedy), but grays are very much written in a "you only see a gray when they WANT you to see them, and then you'll never remember you saw them anyway" kind of way, which doesn't lend itself well to going out and about in public with the rest of your party, conspiracy or no conspiracy.

Ha ha, very funny. But seriously, as funny as the mindwipe scenes in the Men In Black movies are, needing to do them for EVERY non-combat interaction would get tedious for non-gray PCs very quickly.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Gray's have just been random mooks hired by starfinder baddies before.

While I haven't read through or played threefold conspiracy, I've always imagined their conspiracy being hidden via a refuge in audacity type thing. They just go about like any other small humanoid most of the time.

To the majority of the galaxy they're just a rarely seen alien. They only mindwipe those who find out more.
