Kingmaker text logo

Each day during PaizoCon Online, we’re taking a look at upcoming products, revealing new art and details, and diving deep into the day’s focus with a livestreamed Marquee Event panel and Q&A session. Today’s Marquee Event panel focused on the Kingmaker Adventure Path compilation slated for late this year. This blog is a recap of some of the reveals covered in that session. Don’t forget to check out the PaizoCon Online Stream Schedule to stay on top of the latest Paizo news in real time!

Last year, we ran a crowdfunding campaign for a second edition version of one of our most popular Pathfinder Adventure Paths: Kingmaker. For several months, the task of gathering the text, generating new text, and tackling the initial conversions from first to second edition Pathfinder (and fifth edition!) were in the hands of our partners over at Legendary Games, but now the entire project is in our hands and we’re finalizing the updates, developing and editing the text, and building up what’s going to be one of the largest projects we’ve ever attempted at Paizo. The adventure path compilation itself is the size of the second edition Core Rulebook`, and it’s only one of the books and support products we’ll be creating in the months to come!

Currently, we’re finalizing the map turnovers we’ll be sending to the cartographer for the campaign’s various Flip-Mat Multi-Packs, fine-tuning the updated and expanded kingdom building and mass combat rules, and ordering new art for characters, creatures, and scenes both new and old. Because the book and accessories are still very much in process, we don’t have a lot to show you now, but we’ll keep the community updated as we reach more and more production milestones over the next few months.

Stay tuned for more news as it develops, but in the meantime, feast your eyes on the brand-new cover for the Kingmaker Adventure Path, created by the one and only Wayne Reynolds and featuring four of the campaign’s most memorable antagonists!

PS—Fans of the Pathfinder: Kingmaker CRPG adaptation from our friends at Owlcat Games should make sure to follow the game’s publisher, Deep Silver, on social media for some exciting upcoming announcements about the future of the game, especially around IGN’s Summer of Gaming show in early June. That’s all we’re allowed to say at this point, but we’ll have more to report soon!

Because those four on the cover were the ones we wanted to put on the cover.

I didn't have money when the Kickstarter came around... but I do now. Hey, when's this gonna be up for preorder?! I'm not gonna run Kingmaker in 2e a second time after doing it with Dice Will Roll, but I really want this- if only to read back, see how things could have gone differently.

Also, HUGE commendations on making Nyrissa look amazing! Her old design never struck me as "beautiful yet terrifying", but this... she's really both now.

I can see that Vordakai isn't in the scale :D That or he is far in the background from others :D

How/when will us filthy plebs that missed the Kickstarter be able to buy this?

Is this going to be released for people who didn't Back this? Like is it coming to the Paizo Store? I really want this, and I am sad I missed it.

It's more of a movie poster thing, like you'd see in Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's not intended to put them all at scale, other wise they'd be thousands of feet tall to stand on the Stolen Lands like that.

The final product will absolutely be available for anyone and everyone to purchase, be that here on Paizo.com or at your local game store or wherever, same as with our previous adventure path compilations.

I like it nobody cares about Hargulka not getting the spotlight :D

In the Kingmaker campaign I played in, the Dwarven barbarian grabbed his dead T-Rex mount and beat him to death with it. Hargulka does not deserve the spotlight!

Was there any details on the support products?

I backed the game and picked up a few of the extras but I’m curious if there is more to come that was not included in the crowdfunding.

Man the levels of hype on this for me are off the chain.

Kingmaker was my favorite adventure path I've ever run, by a wide margin. And now I'm planning to run it a second time, this time as an evil campaign, when the 2e version comes out.

Give it to me Paizo. Pump it directly into my veins. :D

...Okay, calming down now. ^^;;

Its a hard choice for me, once we have the APG and finish our CoTC PACG to go for a new AP or wait for my Kingmaker to be in my hands/inbox.

Kingmaker is the third Pathfinder adventures (and fourth adventure path) Paizo has compiled into a single volume. With a catalog of 26 Pathfinder APs and counting, we'll never be able to get to all of them, but—without making any promises—Kingmaker is likely not the last one we'll ever do. Getting feedback like this helps us determine which APs have the most interest among the community. Thanks!

I cannot wait for this to finally be completed! Kingmaker was the first AP I ran for my children. As a blended family, kids aged 13 to 8, I needed something we could all sit down and enjoy together and not be competitive. When I told the kids about an AP where they could be explorers and start and run their own kingdom they were super excited.

Years later most still play Pathfinder pretty regularly. My oldest is a great GM in his own right. Hopefully we can all sit down together and relive some of the nostalgia and good times in the updated setting! Maybe I can even get a crack at playing!

Great news and great art! Super excited!

I would love to see Iron Gods get the same treatment as the Kingmaker AP with this update to 2e with expanded material.

A sword with no point, no less.

I guess that's one way to deal ranged bludgeoning damage.

In that case then I will let it be known that I’d love a Second Darkness rewrite. I know James has said that he wishes that would have portrayed elves differently and so do I.

Awwww...thanks Mark. I love you too...in a totally comrade in arms kind of way. ;)

But yeah, I realize it would take YEARS to have all 26 adventure paths turned into single volumes. Still, I'm hoping Second Darkness at least can get some love one day. My Paladin wants to continue his epic romance with Thais after all. ;)

I can’t wait for this product! I’ve run this campaign full out twice, which is like 6 years irl, meeting once per week! Great campaign with so much to offer your players. Absolutely love the art.

Personally I find Reynolds' earlier works much better, but tastes are different.

However, I appreciate to see Paizo, Legendary Games and Owlcat Games working together. Looking forward to more revived APs and more computer game versions...

Really? Was there one before Rise? Crimson? Kingmaker?...

Shackled City was done by Paizo during the Dungeon years and assembled into a single volume wasn't it?

Yep.

Do we have any update about when this will be released in PDF form for the 2nd edition or the 5th Edition release? I wasn't sure how COVID-19 has effected the release schedule and I haven't seen any updates on the backers' pages.
