Band of Bravos Opening This Friday!

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Renowned throughout the River Kingdoms for their amazing feats of daring, the Band of Bravos will take the stage this Friday in the King’s audience hall. These amazing heroes have traveled all across the land, defeating trolls, besting dragons, and defying the undead. Now they are going to regale you with tales of their adventures! You will shiver in terror when you hear about the time they faced the Whispering Tyrant. You’ll cheer when you learn the best way to get a Fire Giant King to surrender his crown. And you will be SHOCKED when you discover what really happened to the Shield of Aroden.

Good King Brightcrown has hired these amazing heroes to put on the performance of a lifetime and so much MORE! Will these legendary heroes be up to the challenge that our good king has for them? Surely heroes of their caliber will be up to task, but make sure to be there on Friday to find out!

Band of Bravos is an exciting new Pathfinders second edition Actual Play Twitch stream, premiering this Friday, starting at 2pm Pacific time on the Paizo twitch channel. Staring James Jacobs as the talented half-elf bard Shensen, Payton Smith as the curmudgeon human wizard Lorn, Maryssa Lagervall, as the storytelling halfling druid Ilana Thistlefoot, and Jason Keeley as the wisecracking tengu swashbuckler Roark Thunderbird. Jason Bulmahn, Paizo’s Director of Game Design is serving as host and GM for this band of misfit performers whose tall-tales of adventure may have finally gotten them into more trouble than they could possibly handle! Band of Bravos will run from 2 to 5pm, every Friday on the Paizo twitch channel!

Nice! Cannot wait! Is this replacing Oblivion Oath?

No, not replacing. We are starting a new story while working from home, with staff members who are set up to do that.

Fixed. Thanks!

Awesome! I need something else to do for a change, and this will do nicely! It will be cool to see JJ play a character for a change as well.

Ahh, gonna be fun to see how Brightcrown is doing! One of my favorite parts of season one of Oblivion Oath!

Hopefully I'll be popular enough to earn enough hero points to stay ahead of the countless tavern ambushes I fear I'll be facing in this game!

Great, and at a time I can watch it too!

This is great news! I really loved the stories Jason Buhlman told in Knights of the Everflame und Oblivion Oath. Great players there, too, of course. I am really looking forward to this.

Greetings from Germany!

Oh, THAT page. Thanks for the clarification. I'll tell the web content manager.

Looking forward to checking out the new twitch streams!

I gotta say, two of the pictures match real well with character descriptions. The other two, not so much

We pulled theses from our collection of course. We look forward to fan art!

I suspect one of them might be Shensen—the backstory there is that she's a character I've played in previous editions as a multiclassed fighter/bard, which is why she's got a scimitar. She's also traditionally done bard performances via singing and dancing, hence no musical instruments.

For this game, I'll be taking General Training as my Ancestry Feat to open up all those fun martial weapon proficiencies by taking Weapon Proficiency. Originally I'd planned on waiting a level and taking the Fighter multiclass archetype, but there's an even BETTER archetype I want that we'll see if I get to preview in the game once we hit second level; it's an archetype coming soon in the Advanced Player's Guide. And since I wanted that archetype... can't go the fighter multiclass route, hence General Training for Weapon Proficiency.

Of course, I could have just gone another route and used my scimitar untrained, but that's 1) not in thematic character to a bard that's as much of a fighter as a performer, and 2) rules gross! :P

That all said, the art for Shensen was ordered originally for the cover of the 100th volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path, where she showed up in Hell's Rebels as an NPC ally. One of the fun perks of working at Paizo is getting to put your PCs in the world as NPCs and then getting our artists to illustrate them!

That said, I do agree with Aaron about the looking forward to fan art side of things! :-)

look forward to this tomorrow night

Looks like the Tengu have 6 HP (Swashbuckler in the playtest had 10, and Roark has +1 CON for a total of 17 HP. Thus, 6 from Tengu.)

They have a Beak unarmed attack. Finesse and deals D6 damage.

Ability boosts appear to be in either DEX and INT, and the flaw is likely either STR or WIS.

Roark also is able to cast Electric Arc as an innate spell from his ancestry.

That was a most excellent stream, and full of BENEVOLENCE!

Well, some Benevolence was involved, but I think it mostly was Roll20 trying to go after Payton.

Also, his Swashbuckler could use "Perform" to regain panache (while using fascinating performance). Not clear if it's all Swashbucklers that can do this, or only his specific class path (or if he needed a class feat...)

All of his performs were fluffed as dancing, so that brought some dance-off with rat swarms later one, that the whole party enjoyed participating in. (They all started fluffing their reflex saves as dancing, and it was grand)

When can we expect this to come to youtube?

Probably sometime Friday. Paizo usually post videos a week after Twitch to Youtube.

Half an hour to the next show!

I really wish there was an audio only option. I was such a fan of Oblivion Oath, but then YouTube shut down the ability for PodSync to create an rss for a podcast version. My wife will critically hit me if I spend too much time watching streams. Podcasts are my only real alternative.

Nice stream so far. Competent Guards are a surprise though.

In the last Band of Bravos Episode 4 - Dancing in the Deep, Kind of wish James Jacobs' character Shensen had used the Monty Python The Vocational Guidance Counsellor sketch to describe a lion
"You see a lion is a huge savage beast, about five feet high, ten feet long, weighing about four hundred pounds, running forty miles per hour, with masses of sharp pointed teeth and nasty long razor-sharp claws that can rip your belly open before you can say 'Eric Robinson'"

Half-time at episode 7. Nice run so far.

What Syrinscape sound sets did they use so far?
