Kingmaker Campaign Unlocks!

Monday, May 13, 2019

We've surpassed our goal of 1,000 backers for the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary crowdfunding campaign! This means all backers have unlocked PDF copies of People of the River and Guide to the River Kingdoms.

Our next goal is to reach 1,500, where all backers will be granted:

  • 8 Scenarios: Each of these Pathfinder Society adventures adds a lot of flavor to the River Kingdoms, and each can be completed in around 4 hours. They’re perfect for side quests or for jumping off points to future adventures in the Kingmaker Adventure Path.

  • Pathfinder First Edition Boon—Aldori Dueling: Boons are in-game rewards granted to players that are above and beyond what a basic Pathfinder Society character begins with. In this case, you gain the Aldori Dueling boon, which grants your character proficiency with the iconic Aldori dueling sword. These will be delivered in June to backers paizo.com accounts.

  • Pathfinder Second Edition Backgrounds—Future River Regent and River Pirate: In Pathfinder Second Edition, choosing a background is a key part of building your character, granting unique flavor and providing two ability score boosts, training in a specific skill, Lore skill training, and a specific skill feat. This bonus unlocks two new backgrounds for you, tied to the River Kingdoms. These will be delivered in mid-July to backers paizo.com accounts.

We're also happy to announce that the Kingmaker Adventure Path will soon be sanctioned for Pathfinder Society play! Once sanctioned, rules and chronicle sheets will be available from the Additional Resources page and Adventure Path volumes added to our reporting system.

Help us reach 1,500 backers on the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary Campaign and stay tuned for more exciting unlocks!

$24.5k to the map-pack with a ruined bridge, ruined village, ruined tower & overgrown temple!

So what happens if this map pack is unlocked in the last few minutes of the campaign? It looks like it is an optional add-on that nobody gets automatically, so there could be a very short time between this option being unlocked and the end of the campaign -- and at a very late time for anyone east of the Pacific time zone.

There will be a late pledge period where you will be able to add non-exclusive items to your current pledge. That would include the Flip-Mats.

Thanks, Jim.

-Does the late pledge money count towards the total amount for add-on unlocks?
-Or do unlocks end with the timer?

If yes, it would probably make sense to add the $500k goal (and also to motivate people).

Anyway 2,176 backers!

$5.5k to unlock the 3rd flip-mat multipack!

5 hours left!

Dark Archive

2,193 backers!

$2.8k to the flip-mats!

This looks to become unlocked in the next hour.

Still about 5 hours left!

All I can say is I sincerely hope they never use this GameOn thing for crowdfunding again.

It is very, very buggy, and painful, and so very very lackluster compared to how Kickstarter campaigns are run.

Our shop does retailer Kickstarters all the time, especially the wonderful Steve Jackson Games ones, and fighting with the GameOn interface and the way it's run was like going being back in the days of dial-up Internet and BBSes.

Except BBSes were fun :)

(you kids get off my lawn!)

2,200 backers!

Only 1k to the River Kingdom Ruins Unlock!

People are adding more and more add-ons to their pledges now, which increases the amount of money per backer! :-)

About 3.5 hours left!

I thought GameOn was a pretty decent site. Seems to manage add on's well and you don't need backerit to fulfill. Late pledge support also.

I think competition makes the market better overall.

I hope it is possible to get 5e and 1e bestiary as pdf later on because I seriously couldn't afford the shipping cost for them ^^;

Anyway, I wonder if miracle is happen and we will get both Ekundayo and Thornkeep pdf :D Probably not, but I'm glad we got Candlemere expansion before campaign ended(poor Harrim and Jaethal though! And Octavia & Regongar and the twins but I think those two pairs never really had chance)

Dark Archive

3rd flip-mat multipack unlocked!

2,210 backers!

The next goal is to add Ekundayo and Dog to the companion codex and is less than $24k away.

3 hours to go!

PS: Still no $500k ultimate add-on goal...

Dark Archive

Well its unlikely it will be reached so maybe they don't want to depress people if it would have been something super cool? :D

CorvusMask -- Paizo has said somewhere that the bestiaries will be available as PDFs once the book is released.

If they don't add any more add-on goals, maybe we will get them all!

Probably not, but that 3rd map pack became available sooner than I expected.

It does kinda seem like gameontabletop can't handle last-chance-to-pledge sudden traffic ._. Site is down again

Oh come on!

More kingdom management stuff at 475, but a new companion at 450?!

COME ON! That should be the other way around!!

Dark Archive

I mean, 475 is just adding more page count to kingdom rules. I don't think that one is really necessary even if it would be cool :p

Like, at some point the kingdom rules would be presumably just even more events or optional rules

In general, the stretch goals just basically promise "this is new page count of the book and it WILL cover this topic" instead of "This new content will take exactly 26 pages" or whatever. I mean, the 2e statblocks are already more compact than 1e statblocks, so 1e Kingmaker content WILL take less space. And Its unlikely they will reprint all monsters and articles since not every Kingmaker article was heavily featured in the ap(I don't think Iobaria was featured heavily for example outside of centaur backstory). So that already means there is more space for revisited or new content even without stretch goals.

Hmm... No Blog post that this is in the final hours. Unfortunate. Could have helped reach the 2500 backers.

a bit more than 60 minutes left, 2247 backers, $433k reached. I doubt this reaches 450, but I'm glad it landed where it is right now.

On average ~$193/backer is rather nice, I think.

Thank you for your post. I had not realized that this new add-on was available. I am going to add it to my pledge. Which will help the amount increase :-)

Too bad I did not get notice from the site that this new add-on was available for pledge though.

It certainly isn't a very encouraging platform, compared to Kickstarter, of all the notifications, I received maybe one in five by email, seemingly random ones. So it didn't encourage participation, also no notify me near the end option is poor. Pre paying also sucks, for those of us not using USD, no way I was going to add on with extra bank charges.

But I'm certainly looking forward to my copies arriving, esp in a lovely slipcase! I'll look to give my PDF codes for the 1e AP in return for a charity donation, I reckon

The notification wasn't a Game On Tabletop issue, but a choice by Paizo, from what their staff said earlier. There was an explicit decision to not send every project update as an email, most were just posted to the Game On Tabletop site. They were worried about the impression of spamming people too often. But I think that just indicates they don't have a lot of experience with crowd funding campaigns where frequent updates are par for the course and usually seen as a positive.

I also would have appreciated the updates being less product/marketing copy and more "personal" -- hearing the creator's 'voice' rather than ad-copy feels a lot nicer.

So when does this 'late pledge period' begin? I hope it hasn't passed already, I did not get a chance to purchase the River Kingdoms Ruins and would like to do so.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Maps, Modules, Roleplaying Game Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

It clearly had not begun at the time the initial campaign closed -- or perhaps it just closed for me because I had already purchased that last item.

But still, anything less than a couple of days to pick up the Ruins map pack would mean that many backers would miss out on it.

I hope that means that the "late pledge" period hasn't even started yet.

I'd totally be willing to pay cash money for a bonus add-on detailing all the companions we didn't get in the hardcover. Just sayin'. ;-)

(I know, might not be likely...but I can dream!)

Thanks for your support of the crowdfunding campaign!

There will be a Late Pledge/Pledge Manager option available in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more details on how that will work.

Regarding unlocks and emails, I sent probably more than a dozen emails (but no more than 1/day) over the course of the campaign to Game On Tabletop backers as we reached level ups and unlocks, and more emails to those subscribed to Paizo emails. We also pushed virtually all of the unlocks to our social media channels.

Likewise. Unfortunately this would require us to travel in time to yesterday, together with a few hundred like-minded friends.

Will there be an update/newsletter/missive of some type to keep backers informed of the progress of the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary crowdfunding... weekly, monthly, quarterly?
