Kingmaker Campaign Unlocks!

Monday, May 13, 2019

We've surpassed our goal of 1,000 backers for the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary crowdfunding campaign! This means all backers have unlocked PDF copies of People of the River and Guide to the River Kingdoms.

Our next goal is to reach 1,500, where all backers will be granted:

  • 8 Scenarios: Each of these Pathfinder Society adventures adds a lot of flavor to the River Kingdoms, and each can be completed in around 4 hours. They’re perfect for side quests or for jumping off points to future adventures in the Kingmaker Adventure Path.

  • Pathfinder First Edition Boon—Aldori Dueling: Boons are in-game rewards granted to players that are above and beyond what a basic Pathfinder Society character begins with. In this case, you gain the Aldori Dueling boon, which grants your character proficiency with the iconic Aldori dueling sword. These will be delivered in June to backers paizo.com accounts.

  • Pathfinder Second Edition Backgrounds—Future River Regent and River Pirate: In Pathfinder Second Edition, choosing a background is a key part of building your character, granting unique flavor and providing two ability score boosts, training in a specific skill, Lore skill training, and a specific skill feat. This bonus unlocks two new backgrounds for you, tied to the River Kingdoms. These will be delivered in mid-July to backers paizo.com accounts.

We're also happy to announce that the Kingmaker Adventure Path will soon be sanctioned for Pathfinder Society play! Once sanctioned, rules and chronicle sheets will be available from the Additional Resources page and Adventure Path volumes added to our reporting system.

Help us reach 1,500 backers on the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary Campaign and stay tuned for more exciting unlocks!

I would suggest Legendary Games’ work with the kingdom rules. As far as I am concerned it is a must when playing that sort of campaign.

I have the Ruler level but I mistakenly bought the add-ons anyway... oops... any way to apply that money to something else? :P

Sure, just go the same steps as detailed above, and change quantities of add-ons.

If your new total incl. shipping is below the previous amount, you'll have to email Paizo for a refund.
If it's higher, the site will ask you to pay the difference.

Definitely. I read online about groups 'gaming the system' and flooding in wealth, but in my playthrough, we had above average stats (25 pt buy and lots of 'retired' PCs in Kingdom roles as players dropped out, so our bonuses were way higher than the expected baselines) and *slightly* above average rolls (like, average was 12, instead of 10.5), but were constantly just barely eke-ing by, year after year, with a few buildings and no money to build more.

I was *hugely* excited for the kingdom-building aspect of the game, and it was kind of devastating to see it fail so hard (both being easy to game, and ridiculously hard to succeed with if one *didn't* exploit it and build a bunch of caster's towers or whatever to start).

I usually love the idea of games that build something, or manage something outside of the usual hack-and-slash, like the caravan mechanics in, uh, whatever the Minkai-Queenmaker is called, or some of the social events scattered throughout the APs, or even running the Golden Goblin in Second Darkness (for the brief time that appears to be a thing), but have often found them frustrating in practice.

Umm you just need to build quarries and mines.

Its not that hard to play if you don't exploit it <_< Our group has done fine without doing exploits

The hardcover is now 624 pages!

$21.2k to make the companion book a 96 page hardcover.

New add-ons revealed:

$425k: River Kingdom Ruins Flip-mat multipack!

$450k: Companion Codex adds Ekundayo and becomes 112 pages.

$20k to make the companion codex into a hardcover at $375k!

Personally i hope/think that we will reach the $425k add-on, cause i love flip-mats and this multi-pack could provide battle-maps for books #2 & #3 most prominent areas.

I am sad that we won't get maps for "The house at the end of time" in book #6, as those maps are really pretty.

Nah I am thinking we will get the hardcover and that's about it.

Still awesome though.

Yeah, there's no 'remind me' feature on the site so less reason to expect the explosive finish we see on KS. (Might be slightly offset by the 'capture funds up front model' that might cause people to wait til the end to pledge, but relies on them remembering to check back).

now THAT would be a good feature to add.

And the project is visibly accelerating:

Roughly an hour ago it had passed 1,850 backers and now it's at 1,866 backers and less than $17k away from the $375k needed for the companion codex to become a hardcover!

We'll definetly reach 1,900 backers today, maybe even pass the 2,000!

Why thank you! They've been some of our best-selling products ever, so we're delighted people seem to agree.

For anyone interested, you can pick them up right here!.

Of course, we also encourage anyone pledging to the Kingmaker project to pick up a copy of the Forest Kingdom Campaign Compendium (available for both PF and 5E) - you can order the PDF at $5 off directly through the GameonTabletop interface, and we'll be sending out an email survey through Paizo after the crowdfunding project closes to allow people to then pick up the hardcover from us at half price!

Or you can just buy the PDF/book/bundle directly from us now. Either way is fine. :)

I concur. The only reason I am not taking advantage of either of these deals is that I already have that compendium, along with most of your other supplements tied to this adventure path (such as Faerie Passions for PFRPG, which I raised a question about in its product thread).

It was added automatically to mine at Ruler level. In the confirmation email it lists this under Reward Level:

And I pledged on day one as a Spymaster (Ruler equivalent).

Since this campaign has just over a day left to go, I want to be sure that nobody is missing out on anything before the whole thing shuts down.

Yeah, that crowdfunding site is a bit... subpar, compared to Kickstarter. But if you pledged Spymaster, you should not have to do anything to receive the Kingdom Tracker.

So, less than 24 hours left, we are at 1944 backers, so a bit more than 50 new backers left to get the AP-PDF's for the original books.
We are at $373k, so the Companion Guide will reach 96pages and a hardcover in a bit, and I would expect Candlemere to be unlocked before the end of the campaign.

Tell your friends to back now, if they haven't!

Wow, there has indeed been a strong acceleration over the past 2 days. 2000 backers will definitely happen (only 9 to go right now) and $400k looks very feasible.

I'd very much like to reach the $450k (Ekundayo) goal and even more, $475k (kingdom expansion), but that seems a little too far away.

I would love for the campaign to hit the $475k goal, but the chances are low. Fingers crossed tho.

Unfortunately high reward tiers were not interesting enough for the backers for that price. Getting 5/5 High Priests would help a lot :).

Well, maybe there just aren't enough super rich backers...

Also: 2000 backers now. That took just 15 minutes since my last post.

Now that we've hit the 2000 backer mark, I'm hoping that the included PDFs draw some more people in that wouldn't have otherwise pledged. $50 for the whole set of 1E Kingmaker PDFs in addition to the 2E PDFs is quite a good deal.
I'm in at the Spymaster level, and am trying to figure out which Add-Ons I'd like. Certainly one of the Forest Kingdom Campaign compendiums, and maybe a Bestiary, a flip-mat or two, and perhaps the Pawn set...

AFAIK Jason mentioned somewhere (twitter?) that those higher tiers would get early access to PF2 books and then he got corrected that that reward is not planned.

I can imagine that some goodies like that instead of (or added to) the Star Wars collection tours would make some impatient rich backers go wild(er).

But yeah, I wouldn't be able to defend spending 2500 even if I was promised lifetime free supply of Paizo books together with existing rewards.

Hopefully Paizo will figure out how to make this campaigns even more successful than this in the future if they decide to use this approach again. Cannot wait to get that casual PF2 Special Edition AP with 1000 pages :P .

The Magister tier was the only one that got an early look at 2e (as in the game had to be redeemed between mid june and Gen Con).

I was looking for a higher than Spymaster/Ruler tier that would make sense but there wasn't one.

Autographed books is one common thing offered at a above all-in level. Not a major draw for me. Some additional high-quality props would have been an instant pledge to a higher tier for me. Some form of a 15-30 minute video chat with developers would have been something I would have strongly considered. Often these types of campaigns have a 'name an npc/item/village' style thing, personally not a huge fan and I understand why Paizo's creative control over their world might shy away from that style. But there's a variety of ways to tap into enthusiastic backers that might have more disposable income that weren't explored.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be time critical, as I have a relatively short time window between when I get home and when Paizo closes for the day. If I weren't on the east coast, I would have no time window for this at all.

Their claim is that the fixed it for everyone in Spymaster/Ruler tiers, so it shouldn't require action on your end.

Anything else that unlocks before the end is nice, but I don't feel like something was left out. (Even though, yes, more story additions would always be nice but I can't imagine we'd get even close to unlocking the next one. And I'll remain hopeful that Paizo will put in at least a 2 page write-up & stat block for each of the NPCs from the computer game).

Really looking forward to seeing what they change about the AP!

So what happens if this map pack is unlocked in the last few minutes of the campaign? It looks like it is an optional add-on that nobody gets automatically, so there could be a very short time between this option being unlocked and the end of the campaign -- and at a very late time for anyone east of the Pacific time zone.
